I WOULD actually consider “Thanksgiving” a slasher masterpiece. It’s layered. There’s a backstory there. There’s character development. The chase scenes are incredible. It’s exciting. Great unique kill scenes and gore. It’s the total package. Eli Roth HAS given us one of the greatest “slasher movies” of all time. Especially in this movies case, as each victim and target did fuck over the killer in some way which I appreciate, it doesn’t just feel like the killer role was forced on a character just because. I found myself smiling from the opening scene to the closing credits. Especially with the jabs at society today, the Florida jokes (I’m a FL Native) & the jabs at dumb young people and their “content/social media and cell phone addictive ways” . It captures a 90s slasher vibe with a plethora of characters who could be the killer, a high school class facing peril, and a relatable motive for the antagonist. The kill scenes are all top-notch, earning a solid 10/10, with a perfect blend of creativity, gore, blood splatter, and more gore. The Black Friday and parade sequences are standout moments, eliciting cheers from tonight’s audience. Noteworthy are the elite decapitation scenes and a sequence reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight. For a modern-day slasher, it doesn’t get much more enjoyable than this. WITH THAT SAID, the ending sucked. It was almost like they didn’t know how to end it or what to do with the killer so they just said...okay let’s blow this up and roll the credits. Literally. So before that, I would of gave the movie a 7.3/10 but because of the ending my score is a 6.5/10. Definitely go see this in theatres. Super fun! Definitely one I’ll own in my physical media collection. R.I.P. Tim Dillon🩸🪓🦃🍽

I imagine this is how some might have felt in 96' watching Scream opening night or in 78' with Halloween. THANKSGIVING is so aggressively over-the-top, but at least it knows & embraces it. Eli Roth’s slasher film features some of the most gruesome & hilarious kills of the year. Silly & absurd B-movie horror that can be a killer good time if you’re open to it. He really blessed us with one of the best slashers in modern memory, hilariously over the top blood soaked carnage!
To think that the premise for the thanksgiving theme around this goofy holiday slasher was originally just teased as a fake trailer teaser from the “Grindhouse” double feature by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez’s infamous 2007 feat is quite impressive. 🦃 🍴🔪🍽️
Thanksgiving feels major. It's definitely the slasher of the year, but I mean looking back, it's the best in years. A new classic ripped straight out of the golden age of slashers. I felt like I was watching the culmination of someone's life work. Roth has said many times that he's been wanting to make this movie since he was 12, and I could feel every bit of that passionate energy jump off the screen. It felt like Roth was emptying out all of his pockets and throwing out all of the tricks that he had been saving for years. Every other moment felt like it was attempting to one-up the last. This flick is filled to the brim. I have no idea how the rest of the world will receive this film, but this completely blew me away. Thanksgiving was everything I wanted and more, Roth completely delivered on all fronts. I can only predict it will be trashed and forgotten like the rest of Eli Roth's work, but perhaps just maybe others will agree with me.
If you’re a horror fan and love slashers give this one a try, the trailers didn’t do its full justice. 🔥

My fingers are crossed so hard for 'Borderlands', but most video game movies don't really pan out, but we'll see.

I really liked the comedic moments that were fairly consistent throughout the movie. I even think the moments like the killer reveal or the Teleporting characters were Not accidents or bad film making. I think those things were Leaning into the "badly made" Horror movie trope, which fits with the Heightened reality in this movie.
Tuesday I saw an advanced screening. But I'm happy to see it again and pay this time! 😂

I really enjoyed this. I also liked that it revolved around Black Friday and not the actual holiday. Not many horror movies make me react physically but more than once I threw my hands up in shock. And I agree, it wasn’t really advertised. I knew about it because I go to the theater every week and it was a trailer during another film.

Loved this film. It’s a 10 out of 10. I mean it’s not just a horror holiday film, it’s secretly a comedy as well. It’s such a mouth open, fun, and funny film, it does not disappoint, and it’s pretty short which I like because most movies, mainly superhero movies which they just abuse the runtime and it drags to when it comes to the climax it’s just boring. I hope it becomes successful and we get multiple sequels to this film as well, because it’s fun, I’d watch it a million times.

Slasher horror movies are fun to watch. Just dont take them seriously. This movie reminds me of "Terror Train" from 1980. Where a psychopath takes revenge on those who played a crude joke on him. So he kills them one by one on a train that is holding a costume party. This takes place a dark snowy winter night. The ending was kinda weird though.

For anyone, who's wondering whether to watch this movie or not, TRUST ME its a must watch! Its unfortunate that imdb has rated it so low but don't always rely on it, the story of the movie is awesome and suspenseful. The duration of the movie is perfect as well. The only downside is some of the deaths seemed a bit exaggerated but it pales in comparison to overall score. A solid 8.5/10 from me! Its worth every penny. Just remember its not for the people who get easily disturbed

My wife and I saw this over the weekend. Overall we enjoyed it, specifically for the kills. They are very entertaining and hilarious. Gory as usual for Roth. I was shocked to find the gasps behind me when the killer was revealed. Maybe I'm old and jaded and too much of a horror and mystery fan, but it was VERY obvious from the opening of the film who the killer would be. Certainly not going to spoil it, but I mean, come on. It was revealed to us in the very beginning. Also, just pay attention to who's mysteriously missing when the killer is around. That is even enough to figure out who dun it. Anyway, it's a fun movie. I'm glad it exists, but I'm kind of hoping it doesn't become a tired franchise.

I remember seeing the trailer in 2007 on the Grindhouse double feature - Planet Terror / Death Proof. Everyone said all these trailers need to be movies - Machete was one of the trailers too! But yeah man, what you said about the marketing !!! OMG there is such a bigger conversation here, I just stumbled upon 3 movies that were released in November with decent names attached and I just discovering them now? The marketing is feast or famine. As a filmmaker you shouldn't need access to 100 million dollars for people to hear about your NEW MOVIE...but apparently this is the reality for advertising. You could do a whole video on the films that didn't get fair releases. Random thoughts, peace.

I’ve had a day or so to digest the movie now. I think It was a fun, gory slasher. Exactly what it claimed to be. It’s not reinventing the sub genre or anything but it’s a very entertaining, likeable movie. What more could you ask for? And Thanksgiving isn’t even a thing in this country - that didn’t matter at all as far as my enjoyment of the movie went.

I watched this movie on Thursday. I recognized some scenes that were I almost wanna say "copied" from other movies. If you've seen Thanksgiving 2023 and know about late 90s to 2000s horror you know what I'm talking about. The killer looks and executes similar to the killer in Valentine (2001) in my perception, more so the look when I think about it (bye the way, Chris you need to rewatch that movie and make a review for Valentine's Day), the plot twist is similar predictable. There is one scene straight out of "I know what you did last Summer (1997)", another scene straight out of "Saw II (2005)", then one scene out of let's say "The Texas Chanisaw Massacre (2003)" and the final act, the climax and the ending, are also reminiscent of other horror movies.

    • @shebreathesingold8043
      @shebreathesingold8043 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can say copied because that's what it was. The parade scene you mention from I Know What You Did Last Summer wasn't even subtle. It wasn't just the setting, but the whole concept behind the scene. I find storytelling like this incredibly lazy, and it did this over and over. It was kind of embarrassing. I feel people who are impressed by this movie cannot be actual horror fans who watch a lot of horror because you'd immediately know how derivative and unimaginative it was.

Omg , I don't watch alot of horror movies but I KNEW it was so damn similar to valentine and I know what you did last summer , literally it's not much of a difference but even then , those two movies were so much better than this , they were fun , had good story telling and fun characters even if they make dumb decisions

  • @kdogg2077

I'm surprised Chris didn't mentioned the practical effects. This movie was MADE by the fact that the fun kills actually use practical effects. The horror, the humor, none of it would have worked with the typical cheap CGI gore.

    Spoiler warning:
I think the killer got to the warehouse first because he has the cop car, where he had already drugged and placed Bobby. He saw her going in that direction, she stumbled her way there cuz of the sprained ankle (which was a clear hint that they wanted to make it seem believable) and he placed Bobby there as a fall guy. He probably planned to “save” her from Bobby and kill her once everyone was back home “safe” with their guards down, because he knew he probably wouldn’t be able to avoid word getting out about the Carver’s house.
