Just returned from the theater and I quite liked it. Short end of it, kills were gruesome, entertaining, but shocking, characters/story was fine and serviceable. I was entertained, surprised, and came away quite happy and satisfied. Can't say I missed the sex bits, although we do get a bit of tease during the cheerleader spike scene. The grindhouse presentation also wasn't missed if I'm being honest. I'm not against it, but it's not something I'm savoring for either. One last thing, I'm ashamed to admit it, but the movie did hoodwink me a bit. Maybe I just caught up in the immersion of it all, but the movie ended up landing on no. 3 of suspects for me.

Hearing about the segment about trying to capture the grindhouse look reminded me of Megalobox. That anime was a celebration of Ashita No Joe's 50th anniversary. Megalobox attempted to look like an older anime by messing with its visuals via filters. Despite being available in hd and bluray, Megalobox doesn't have the full resolution it should have. You can observe the backgrounds and notice how things have a fuzzy look to it. I found this redundant to do more so when it's inital 70's inspiration, Ashita No Joe, got either remastered or upscaled in its bluray release.

Dempsey breathing like Billy from Black Christmas at the begining, a killer klown knocking a turkey mascots head clean off, baking and basting a human carcass like when Billy eats his christmas cookies. The Scream vibes crashing through walls like micheal myers, throwing a hay rake as a spear like Jason. The Dinner scene towards the end also gave TCM vibes. And i mean John Carver great F'n name. Hopefully not a spoiler but the killer was very obvious immediately as there is literally only one actor who's body build fits the killer's, every red herring was either too short or too big to be the person behind the mask. I'm glad that Doc picked up the My Bloody Valentine vibes like I did. But I'm not as critical of the killer's identity or their motivation though. The whole movie - including the 2007 fake trailer - is meant to be a loving homage to the slasher genre, so it's supposed to revel in its tropes and conventions, as predictable as they became over the years. It doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means, but that clearly isn't the intent here, and that's okay. In the end, it's a good time and a worthy slasher that I look forward to watching each November.

I went into this movie with zero expectations and I really enjoyed it! Glad a sequel has been green lit

The most unbelievable thing in this movie for me was believing Gina Gershon would be pregnant at her age.

I like how doc got the lead girl mixed up with Addison Rae, the both look the same but Addison Rae is the lead actress’ best friend

I saw this and "Journey to Bethlehem" in a span of a few days and it's weird to see Milo Manheim as a drug dealer with a heart of gold in this one and then Joseph of Nazareth in the other...

Surprisingly well made slasher film with the feel of classics like black Christmas, Halloween, my bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th part 6 and Scream
No SJW/woke lecturing garbage, just escapist entertainment and no wonder it’s a hit.
It’s also different in the mainstream horror genre than another pointless remake of a classic horror film like poltergeist, another found footage movie and not another sequel prequel requel to a genre franchise that should stay dead like Texas chainsaw massacre

Some sufficiently grody moments in the film but it really did suffer from just being a cheap modern setting. But then again it probably doesn't get made if they insisted on making a 16mm period piece set in 1976. That cost budget.

Also Doc, the lead is Nell Verlaque, Addison Rae is another girl.

I enjoyed this film quite a bit, but I watched the trampoline scene pretty thoroughly and I'm pretty sure the knife didn't pierce the girls WAAHOO like it did in the fake Grindhouse trailer. Still very entertaining though. I actually seen it on black Friday at my local mall theater.

Maybe this is meant to be the modern remake of the fictional 70s film.

Eli Roth and Victor Salva are my top two horror directors. Hostel and Jeepers Creepers damn near gave me nightmares 🤣
