Thanks for sharing. I own two veshmeshoks and understand the lack of comfort they can have, but I wear a thick scarf ("sniper scarf" or shemagh) behind the neck and over the shoulders stops the strap bite. I pulled out the old rope in the drawstring at the top and replaced it with 550 paracord. Like you said for finding something worth carrying home in an extra bag: I added some 2.5cm wide nylon webbing handles on the top of the bag to turn the veshmeshok into a grocery bag if needed. I'm thinking of adding some cloth loops on the side of the bag to turn the entire back into a should sling bag. I covered the bottom of my bags with spray on Flex-seal rubber for a waterproof bottom to the bags. I also put a foam insert in the pack to act as a pack frame. I made the insert from one of the large foam tiles that would be on a shop floor. Maybe some of these ideas will help with your future bag upgrades/designs.
@@ChrisSmith-vc7xs opa ! I do love to upgrade my issued one too. Sewn molle on the sides for (originally) wearing ifak and ak pouch on the sides. Dont have foam insert, i put sitting matt in - the ones soldiers nowdays wear all the time when in trenches or camps. As for the water resistance, i dont know if i can get flex seal in my country. I know it only from the meme from years back, lol. I use aquastop sprays, and i got the original rubber inside for the backpack. As for the shoulders, i got 2 rifle sling paddings. I found out that you can get an attachment for old AK/PKM slings that adds padding to it, and it perfectly fits on the meshok straps too.
@@foreststalkerbrothers I didn't know there was a rubber bag for the inside, but makes good sense for water proofing carry stuff on the cheap. I guess you could one day go old, old school and just wax the canvass as well. 🤔Interesting on the ak/pmk sling pads. That's something I'll have to a note on and see if I ever come across a few. On my polish bread bag I sewed some thick, soft leather in a taco shape over the shoulder support on the strap. I'm thinking about doing a full strap change out, but until then that bag will have to work as it is with the shoulder-taco. 😆
@@HptfwO Spare fabric i had, bought VZ60 camo fabric real cheap to make some things, when i ran out of ideas how to use the rest, this thing popped in my mind.
thanks for your cool video. I also started sewing equipment a while ago. I have customized my East German uniform and am currently looking for a small backpack in which I only want to transport my sleeping bag. Maybe I'll try out your design! A little trip to the Czech Republic is planned next year because me and a friend are also big Dayz fans. This backpack will perhaps make our experience a little more authentic. Warm greetings from Germany. stay healthy!
@@FriedelStrong ah, east german gear. Got a uniform set myself, even the "vatnik" styled winter jacket. Remember when second hand shops had heaps of them for few crowns...
@ The equipment is now a little harder to find. Whenever I visit my family in East Germany I go to a flea market in Leipzig. It is the largest antique and second-hand market in Europe. There I still find this equipment very cheap in many versions. I paid €45 for the complete winter set. For two summer sets only 40€ it's worth it. Grenade bags or ammunition bags are only €5-10 each. I think I'll have to buy some in the future before it's all gone.
@ I bought two sets. So a set for 20€. together 40€. sorry for the misleading wording. Damn, I probably have to visit the Czech Republic more often and buy equipment.
Aaaand i just realized i haven't shaved.
Please forgive the bird nest on my chin lol.
If you add a small rock in each corner, then you can tie a knot around each bottom corner and do not need to sew!
