    Being Technically challenged... I saw a friend with the Remarkable, and knew I wanted one... then I saw one of your reviews, and now have been a VERY happy Supernote A5X owner for about 2 months now. I can't begin to say how helpful your reviews have been for and old lady like me! And I can attest... I had some issues that the Supernote support team was stumped on, they had not seen my issue before! But for just ONE person, they got it fixed! 👍 The Supernote support team is what sold me on buying one, and they did not disappoint me at all!!!

    Thank you for this and all your other videos! I’m a very happy Supernote A5X owner since a couple of weeks now, despite the fact that I’ve only known and wanted an rM2 for years beforehand. I’m beyond the moon happy and you are one of the main reasons behind my decision to go for it as my use case was 100% asking for an SN. Your videos are extremely helpful, fair and honest, I wholeheartedly appreciate them.

    These reviews are so helpful! I wanted to add a note about reliability of the A5X. Based on this video (and others) there's an impression that Supernote devices are amazingly reliable. While they're really useful devices that do a lot really well, the software is also currently very glitchy. (And I'm hardly the only one to observe this. The Supernote subreddit is full of people complaining about the erasing function randomly being switched on, sudden Zooming out of nowhere, strokes randomly disappearing, etc.) I have an A5X and like it a lot and would not advise against buying one, but I do think it's important not to misrepresent Supernote software as fully mature and 100% reliable. In daily use it feels quite beta-ish; it's useable, but the glitches and instances of unexpected behavior (especially when reading documents; the note function is more stable) are constant and potential buyers should be aware of that.

    • @rubberonasphalt
      @rubberonasphalt ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you mentioned this. The A5X and Boox Lumi were on my 10.3" radar, where the A5X seemed like good value being much cheaper. However glitches and bugs have no place in a "productivity" device. Imagine working on a laptop that glitches while you work - it would be maddening. I'm sure it will get fixed, but i need reliability out of the box, not from future updates.

    • @Ed14h
      @Ed14h ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@rubberonasphalt - I have to say that a lot of the glitchiness has disappeared after the most recent update. I'm just one user of course, and others may have different experiences, but for what it's worth: the sudden Zooming and strokes disappearing are no longer happening to me. The pen still sometimes randomly switches to eraser mode, which is weird, but on the whole the device feels a lot more stable and reliable.

    Hey Voja! Great one, and I saw your NA3C review too and it's clear you really like that device. I also ordered the NA3C to replace my NA2P (using for notes and engineering design stuff, writing latency and screen distance are the main factors for me, but I could live without colors). But whenever I see and re-watch your videos on Supernote, I start thinking it would be the best choice still. So my question is: as of today, if you needed to pick only one, which one would be your preference? Supernote A5X or Boox NA3C? Thanks!

    I started with a Boox Note Air last August and recently switched to the SuperNote A5X. Its a more purpose driven device and the distinguishes itself with unique features, durability and a great stylus. I wonder if Supernote can prove the value of maintaining a consistent hardware platform from a production standpoint, but attracting an evergrowing pool of purchasers based on the software value and focus.

    Thanks for a great review and summary. As usual :) It is actually thanks to you, that you have 1. made me think that I need an e-ink device. 2. then realize that I actually do need it and 3. help choosing the best one for my use case. I started my journey by being initially attracted to RM2 looks and design, but limitations in functionality and additional paid subscription made it quickly clear that it is a no go. Next contender was Note Air - liked the sleek design, versatility of Android platform, tons of functionalities that come with it despite the complexity, the new Note Air 2 with much improved performance, etc. But what made it as a winner - your winter review and update on Supernote A5x - immense software upgrade of the platform without the need of tech/device upgrade, clear and open development roadmap, responsiveness from Rata (because, sure all companies are great, but the ones that deal with any kind of issues quickly and directly - are always the winners and are more to be trusted). And never spend ceramic nibs. So, you basically make a one time investment on device & pen & pholio - and just can keep on enjoying the device that is constantly improving without any additional expense and not just meeting the competition, but also taking it over. This became a no brainer for me and I am also a happy owner no of Supernote A5x now. :)

    Hi, Great Review, you have explained most of the positives and negatives when buying these devices, and like many I have been caught up in the hype.
    With the obvious covid restrictions I haven't bought any new devices in the last two years, but what I can tell you is I'm a vivid believer in the pen device, so it wasn't long before a new one was on the cards. I have bought everything from a Newton 130/2100 to MS Surface, I pad, Boogie board & a Aeus Eee Note 800, and the last device being the Remarkable (1st edition), so I know my way around E-ink.
    I found that each device had something to offer, so when I finally got around to changing my Remarkable, I wanted something that would not be sitting on the shelf collecting dust like Rm 1, (as with button and nib issues aside) I'd hope the 2nd version would have fixed this, it didn't!
    Which is why recently I have ordered a Super-note A5x, I just got the standard edition as like some. I'm still on the fence with this one being fairly new to the market. I have seen & read many of the reviews of this before I made my decision and I know that one of the key points making my decision was that the makers of this product listen to its users., and that they make they're updates to accommodate these.
    As for my Super note, it hasn't arrived yet, but given the amount of reviews it's got, I'm sure I made the right decision.
    Keep up the good work.

    Voja you mention only gestures and screen share are valuable updates for reMarkable, but you seemed to be very pleased with the feature update that allowed for inserting pages in PDFs without breaking links. Seemed like at least at the time the other devices didn't have that feature and it's a highly valuable one.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, but it is not a complete feature, as its usability as inserting just blank pages without the ability to add templates to them severely hinders what is an otherwise an excellent update. So that one is an excellent step in the right direction, but it needs the templates functionality for it to actually be usable in the real world.

    I've had several issues with rM2, and so many others have too. If it wasn't for the insane price in EU I would for sure have not kept it and gotten Supernote A5X. I broke my rM2's screen by just holding it while plugging in the cable... Was devastated. Luckily they replaced it even though I got it over a year ago. To have to treat it like a sheet of ice is just shit design. Really wish I could move to Supernote. T_T

    I would really love to see a comparison of the Ratta supernote A5X and the new Huawei Matepad paper which is available on Ali-Express for Canada btw. Though the price, before Canadian tariffs and taxes is 820$ with a current 20% discount. So I am really wondering if it is worth it at all compared to the A5X as it seemed so promising.
    Also, how do you see the Xiaomi Moaan W7 compared to these? I daily drive that device and, while I think a huge amount of functionalities are lacking (not because the device doesn't have them, but because it is unable to execute them), I still think it is an okay product if you get it at a HUGE discount price like I did. (200$ - more than that would have been crazy for the device).

    I've been a SN A5X fan (and also have the RM2)... but after owning the A5X for 15 months, I just noticed a dead raster line on my display. Supernote customer support basically said: hardware failure, and you're out of warranty. How common is this problem with A5X and eInks? Before this happened, I've been a big fan (and I also own iPad Pros, which I also use with pencil, but i love eInk for note taking). Now, I'm concerned this is a quality control issue that makes an eInk note taker a risky purchase. Thoughts on this issue? Do all the note takers have the same warranty duration, or do some others have longer ones to cover hardware issues? Have certain brands been more/less reliable?

  • @afterthesmash
    @afterthesmash ปีที่แล้ว +2

    7:40 That's not a software or device reliability problem, that's a _corporate_ reliability problem. There ought to be a consumer protection law requiring a roll back mode to factory default functionality (but with security patches as much as possible for egregious security defects).

    I have a Kobo Aura2 as an ebook reader and it's just fine for reading. But now with all these new devices, I looked at various models and I feel like I need an upgrade. Reading is the main focus for me, but my daughter draws and paints a lot on paper, lots of stuff and she has quite a talent. I showed her these devices and tried to get a feeling if she needs a writing e-ink tablet for her needs. It turns out she would like to have such a device to be able to draw, erase, correct, and blend things. Since the budget is kind of the same, 500-550$, which one will seem to get a better use? Reading DRM ebook (epub, pdf) and drawing.

One of the selling point for supernote pens is never replacement nib, which holds true. However apart from nib, there have been many incidences reported about standard pen’s cap and HOM pen’s ghost phenomenon. These things don’t really make the pens last long enough to save the long term cost.

    Thank you for your videos! They helped me a lot... I buyed the Note Air 2 and I'm quite happy. But there ist one thing, that really, really, really bothers me a lot:
    If you organize your e-Books in Folders and Subfolders (e.g. Author/Author Name/Title.epub or Series/Serie/Title.epub) (sent to the Device via Calibre) and use the File-Date-Sort Option in the Library-View (I like to see the newest uploaded Books first) then the Order of the Books is completely messed up.
    So there is no way to organize your files in Folders (to find collections) AND have a Time-Sorted View in the Library-View.
    The only solution for me so far: Throwing all the books in one Folder, without subfolders and using Calibre-Companion for collections, authors and so on.
    The second thing: In the Ko-Reader, its possible to write a text, double tap on it and its converted to "real text". Thats really a wonderful thing to have. But the same function is not possible in the Notes - App. Also quite a bummer...
