    Just did some spring cleaning on my Ratta Supernote A6X for 2022, and thought it would be a good time to do an overview of the setup I use in my daily workflow for note-making, planning, and productivity-before I get too many private things on it! The features I mention work on the Supernote A5X as well. I hope you find something useful in this video!
    00:00 what this video covers
    00:16 the main goal of my setup
    00:26 how I structure my system/the problem with relying on folders
    01:08 how I process new notes and documents + rationale
    02:10 finding the right files using Supernote features
    03:41 my quick access lineup (starting with something a bit silly-sounding)
    04:10 my favorite PDF planner
    04:49 a word on my personal notebooks
    This video was shot in January 2022, and the Supernote A6X in it was on the latest firmware for it at the time (Chauvet 2.1.6).
    ► If you need more explanation of the features I mention (like stars and keywords), I go over the basics of how to use them here: • Supernote A5X & A6X be...

    The teal/blue pen I use in the video is the EMR half of a regular Lamy EMR pen, with the body of an ink Lamy pen. Perfect fit and there are a bunch of different color options on Amazon!
    ► CHARGER: amzn.to/34ILJDa
    I checked with Supernote/Ratta last year before getting this charger, to make sure the wattage was optimal! I charge my SN with it exclusively, and credit it with helping me keep my battery in good condition.
    ► USB FLASH DRIVE: amzn.to/3BqHDvr
    No problems using it with my Supernote and my laptop. Comes with both a USB-C end and a USB-A end.
    ► CABLES: USB-A to USB-C: amzn.to/3LMFG10 & USB-C to USB-C: amzn.to/40iDqFO
    I find braided cables by Anker to be the best and most durable.

    Do you think the A6X would be big enough to read sheet music on?

    • @pixelleaves
      @pixelleaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case specifically, assuming you mean to read while playing, I would honestly recommend to go as big as possible and get an A4 sized tablet instead 😅 Because you could technically read it, I guess, but I don’t think anything smaller than actual size (including the A5X) would be practical for reading sheet music

    I am wondering if you ha e a video on how to download the hyperlinked templates, daily organizers.

      For hyperlinked PDFs you just have to put the file in your Supernote and write on it :) Templates can’t be linked, the PNG files should just be put in your MyStyle folder so you can use them. You might find my beginner guide helpful: th-cam.com/video/BcvVz8SbrJk/w-d-xo.html

    Thank you so much for your review. It's really nice to see you take the time and explain the features and functionality of the device. I did purchase the A5X and really like it. However, I'd like to learn more about some specific functions (more than note taking or reading) that are not explained well in the manual. I'm having trouble with the mail setup (is it only compatible w/ Gmail, QQ, or iCloud - not any other mail server?) as well as the LAN Transfer function (can you only transfer from Supernote to other device and not the other way around?). I have the Partner App, but they don't seem to be talking to each other (yes, they're on the same wifi network). The calendar sync is important too for me, but maybe that's related to the Google-only compatibility? Anyway, thanks again for your review. I do appreciate it!

    Hi! I’ve really enjoyed the few videos you’ve posted. I’m currently weighing up getting a Supernote. I currently type everything I do, use digital calendar app and todo lists but want to start using backlit screens less and less.
    I’m a bit torn with what size to get. I think it’ll be a 60/40 or 50/50 split between light note taking and reading. Are you willing to share what factors went into your decision for size?
    I’m also worried I won’t end up using it much! I tried the iPad and Apple Pencil for about a month but found I ended up going back to just typing everything because it “felt faster”…. But I realised I ended up never going back to typed out notes anyway! Agh!
    Thanks for your awesome content. Your voice is great!
    (Edit - typos)

    • @pixelleaves
      @pixelleaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! First of all, thanks for the compliment on the voice-like many people, I think recordings of my voice sound very weird, so I really appreciate it! :)
      About your questions, I'm going to say sorry in advance for a very long comment but here goes: I decided on the size based on the paper notebooks I was using, since they were much closer in page size/footprint to the A6X compared to the A5X. It's really just personal preference in that regard. I will say that for writing in full paragraphs (like this comment haha) I still type it, because it is literally faster/more practical for me than writing out an essay and typing it up later.
      On reading, if you're reading many PDFs with really small font (e.g. academic papers) I would go bigger. Reading "normal size" PDFs *at length* on the A6X is okay but not optimal imo. For epubs, and PDFs you can export to bigger font size, etc. I think the size is a non-issue.
      I also was pretty worried it would end up a frivolous purchase when I got it, but the intro to this video is not an exaggeration, I used to always have notebooks for different purposes floating around my desk before consolidating to just the A6X. I find that some things just feel... better? more intuitive? when done "by hand" (plotting and moving around my deadlines, brainstorming, taking notes during a class or meeting) instead of through an app, and I retain more information, so I have never been able to switch fully to Notion or whatever. While I still use an app/my Apple Watch for smaller daily agenda stuff (e.g. alarms for calls/meetings) I really, really enjoy having the benefits of digital notes without the LED screen time. Definitely a splurge purchase, even then, but unfortunately e-ink in general is still pretty niche!

    • @pixelleaves
      @pixelleaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say aside from the features that logically need an internet connection (e.g. email) you wouldn't be missing anything. You do need to connect to the internet at least once during setup (I think the text conversion needs to download something) but can use it offline after. I use mine offline as well so everything in this video will work; I do all my file transfers via USB.

    Do you feel, overall, that you have enough writing room on templates with the 6x? I've seen some say the templates make writing difficult on this size, and that would sway me to the 5x, as I plan to use a lot of templates. It seems to be easier to find templates for the 5x as well, but maybe I'm wrong on that. Great videos!

    • @pixelleaves
      @pixelleaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer this size, but just FYI you shouldn’t let the availability of templates be a factor-the two have the exact same resolution since the A6X is 300 ppi and the A5X is 226 so any templates that work on one work on the other :)

    • @annajohnson6753
      @annajohnson6753 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pixelleaves oh okay, I didn't know that, so thanks for the info. I truly feel the ones stating the templates are too small for the 6x, is simply because of preference or what they're used to. Thanks!

      @@annajohnson6753 They probably mean text/font sizes are smaller and the elements. For me, it really helped to make decision, that I've considered where will I use it. In my case, there is barely enaough room in my office workstation for my laptop, keyboard and an A5 something like notebook. When I've used A4 like textbooks I'd needed to move my assets around the table if I'd wanted to scribble something.
      If you'd like to take your e-notebook to everywhere and use it like a bujo, smaller size also a better option because it fits in more purses, also the smaller surface is able to take less damage.

    Do you think that the a5x would be suitable for students?? Im thinking of buying one but im not sure if it's worth the splurge!

    • @pixelleaves
      @pixelleaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would depend on what you’re looking into it for. I think it’s great for note taking and reading epubs etc, but even the A5X is not “full size” if you have to read a lot of academic PDFs with tiny font on it, and you might find that limiting. That said, people seem to like the RM2 for studying (see Edvard Benson on YT) and the SN A5X is the same size, with more options for keeping organized/sorting files. So if their use appeals to you I would say yes. Definitely wish I had one in uni, anyway! Would also have been much easier on the eyes than my constant laptop use
      Edit: Also, to my knowledge, from the 10.3” e-ink tablets it’s just the A5X which could likely withstand a drop and I would take the durability into account
      (And sorry for the long-winded answer, but I remember being on a student budget and I know this must be a big purchase!)

      After the last firmware update it's definitely wayyy faster, so I don't think UI speed is a problem right now. Interesting to see how you break down your work, but I think that this device is really lacking a solid app that work as planner, without force you to have to create templates.
    Finding things few months down the road may be quite a problem, if you take a lot of notes and work with a lot of documents.
    Example: if you work in engineering you need often to have diagrams, notes, specs and so on; there is no way to organically tie those together, because the documents goes in as pdf or doc maybe, and live in the viewer app. The diagrams may be in the notes app and the specs may me in some other format. If you make a note about this project that need to refer to other documents, you are basically out of luck. Also if your project last months, and you need data from 3 months ago, good luck finding what you need, unless you go page by page reading everything and trying to find the connections.
    I think the big mistake that people make is to consider those devices as planners, while in fact they are just glorified note taking devices with infinite pages, that are useful to capture things in the moment, and then require you to go back and extract that data and convert it into something you can use on your computer. If that is your workflow, then those are perfect; but if you want to use just this device for your project tracking and management and todo/task list, it won't really cut, unless your project is very flat in terms of hierarchy
