Loving the NA3C! It really does have the best tactile writing experience and I will gladly sacrifice battery life for what it does offer. Thank you for dedicating so much of your life to reviewing these wonderful products, Voja!
does browser allow multiple tabs/favorites like other Android devices? Or do you just go to one page at a time and have to retype in the address with onscreen keyboard? I did not see where Voja showed the browser
are you shitting me.i just got a books go 7 color, the ghosting sucks ass. it's terrible. i wouldnt take that shit for free. these channels border on fraud in some ways
I am usually a Kit Betts Masters channel supporter a first review, but I have to say that these deep dives in your channel are simply fantastic. I reached your channel from looking at our friends channel and I’m really thankful of how you conducted the detailed analysis on the writing experience. Your video was the last piece of the puzzle I was missing to decide for this device. I hope your channel grows, now I’m definitely a new subscriber and supporter. All of the best for you my friend, greetings from Chile!!
That battery life is a killer. Please, Boox, add a software "switch" so that we can disable Super Refresh if we prefer to have battery life over fast refresh.
Background light is the main power drain, as one YT showed who performed very detailled tests. Fast display refresh only accounted for about 8-10% faster battery drain. The light is the big power sucker. And there's the problem of color displays - they need a lot more background light, because they are inherently darker. Which is why I don't want a color display in my next e-ink tablet anymore. To me, color isn't really that useful, and I'd rather have much longer battery runtime.
I had to laugh. Voja is like a boy who got a date with someone he's been chasing for ages. Haha. The smile, the hidden smile, the happiness in the voice.... oh so cute to watch. Lol. Damn Voja now I have to get this... and I'm a Supernote guy. What have you done to me. Boox is not me. But this review... you broke me down... new gadget time. 😂
Thanks for the video! Your reviews are the first I’ve seen that I haven’t thought that there is something missing or that I thought I should do my own with the missing content ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️
*Another brilliant device by Boox.* However, although the rate the the unit burns through a battery charge would not be a concern to me... as it gets you through the day, the speed it cycles through battery charges would, unless the user can replace the battery themselves. I'm guessing it'll suffer around 800 charges before it starts to wane, and if you're recharging it every day _[which I admit most wouldn't]_ that limits the device to just over two years before the battery is unable to give you a full days's use between charges.
I got my Note Air 3c for a couple of days now. It is my first e-ink tablet (but I got a pre-2020 kindle paperwhite for several years now). I was surprised how good the color rendition is - I watched so many reviews about how bad it is, how "muted" the colors look etc. But it turned out that for me, I actually prefer it to my LCD tablet. The colors don't look so overly saturated; only real downside is the absence of a real red and yellow. But I do love how web pages look and feel on the device. I also find the writing experience to be incredibly satisfying. I use my Samsung S7 for 4 years now for note taking, and while not bad, it's nowhere near to what the Note Air 3c feels like. Not only how the writing feels but also the fact that if you look at your sketches and notes, it always looks like a small box with a paper film inside on which you wrote.
NA3C Battery life comparison (as per Voja reviews/tests): writing 7h, reading 14h; TabX: writing 12h, reading 18h; NA2+: writing 10h, reading 80h; Nova Air 1(2): writing 5.6h, reading 50h... There is NO big difference in writing batery life (arround 30%)... There is BIG difference in books reading! Conclusion: use a dedicated e-reader for books... In my case Nova Air 2 (mainly reading and occasionally writing "on the go"). Use NA3C for writing and PDF reading/annotating... In my case for work (structural reports/calculations)... I ordered Note Air 3 C. I have Tab X and Nova Air 2. For 2 years I used Note Air (1). All my buying decisions are/were based on MDG reviews. Thank you Voja!
@@mihaialbu I use Tab X every day for my professional needs (PDF reading/writing/drawing/anotating and Note taking/Calculations documenting). Perfect big screen device (A4). No more single piece of paper on my desk... :-)
@@studiovkv first of all thank you for your fast response! Secondly how it is working with tab X in terms of handwriting recognition and conversion to digital text? Can I share and split screen? Can I have a video conference? Many thanks!
At this point, the biggest problem for Onyx might become their very fast release cycle. I'm starting to become hesitant to buy anything because every time a new, even more exciting tablet is released, I think "maybe there will be yet another better one in just 3-6 months"... and there usually is....
Yea my biggest issue with this is the lack of support. You won’t get major updates so you’re stuck with what you have until you buy another Boox device. I prefer the Supernote or ReMarkable approach with better software support and continuous improvements.
@@dpav02 Your claim is absolutely wrong, I have a 3 year old Boox Note 3 and it constantly gets firmware updates with which is pretty awesome - it has firmware version 3.5 like all current Boox.
Excellent video again! I bought the Tab Mini C this summer and just got my Note Air3C. The battery life of the NA3C hasn't bothered me since i always have a power bank in my bag. The darkness of the NA3C took some getting used to but the writing is so nice. I haven't enjoyed writing on an e-ink device in years. I am absolutely loving the NA3C. Now i just need to sell my Tab Mini C 😅
Can't wait till mine is delivered and I can finally start using my first enote/book device. Been following your channel for years because I wanted to buy one and this is the one. Luckily your review is also very positive so now I'm even more hyped for when it arrives. Thank you.
I'm impressed by how much you love this device (battery life apart)! I've been following you for years now and I know you are no fanboy and can be very critical, so seeing your love for this device was really something contagious!
I agree, but your personal experience may be different. Mine was. The screen on the 3C was just too dark for me and I got range anxiety over the battery.
Great review! I really like my Ultra Tab but this review has me seriously tempted to get the Air 3C for handwritten notes, reading PDFs (in color), and ebooks, which are my top 3 activities on my Tab Ultra. The writing experience on the Tab Ultra is meh, and the more paperlike experience and color e-ink PDFs would be welcome improvements. Hopefully with some battery saving tweeks or an "optimize battery mode" could stretch out the battery life depending on the use case.
I got my na2 plus 2 weeks ago, just before these came out. Had a little moment of regret, but seeing the battery life I now regret nothing. The sole reason I bought the na2 plus was cause of battery life and no need to use the front light as much. For the rest I have a samsung galaxy tab s6 lite (2022) which has been my main device for past year and I love it. Besides the fact that it's unusable outside for reading, at night it's too bright and my eyes have been pissed at the abuse I put them through. Also, charging it every 2-3 days has become a nuisance, the times I took it out of the bag at work to take notes only to realize it's low on battery have been too many. So far I only charged my na2 plus once and used it way more than the tablet, which has been charged 3 or 4 times in the the past 2 weeks. Pretty happy.
I'm in the same situation. Today is the last day to return my Note Air 2 + on Amazon, I have hesitated a lot, I have it reset and packed but I don't think I'm going to exchange it. Battery life is essential for me. I basically need it to read, highlight and take some notes, and what I value most is being able to read without a front light, for greater rest for my eyes.
This is still a e-ink tablet. Even thought you can watch videos and play games that not the reason your buy it for. It’s for reading and writing mostly. If you use it for that. The battery won’t be that bad. When was the last time you read or wrote for 8 hours straight? I have a book page and the battery didn’t seem the greatest at first. But it can last weeks or days. It depends how much you use it, brightness, and wifi. I have my book library downloaded on the device and have the wifi off most of the time.
@@soulsearch7383 The worse the battery life, the more often you have to charge it. Whether you're using it all in a day is irrelevant. A lot of people like e-ink devices specifically because they can go weeks without having to charge it. Are people really going to spend $500 on a weaker Android tablet just to make it more comfortable on their eyes? I wouldn't...
@soulsearch7383 hi, nice to read this comment. I hesitate to buy the Boox Page. I'm a tablet user (galaxy tab 7+) which is very nice for media content and gaming but too heavy for reading! Are you happy/satisfied with your Page? What's your experience? Screen size? Is it worth the price?
Thank You. Love your comparison of screen background whiteness/greyness compared to Black and White. I like good contrasts a lot and this is my main deal breaker. Thanks for saving me the hassle of buying and returning.
@@davidr1431 - also loving it. I find the larger screen much easier to mark up pdfs (couldn't afford a Lumi and anyway probably too heavy), and writing on it is amazing. I still love my Nova and will probably keep it because it's so portable for library visits and holidays, but I think the note 3 is fantastic and at £400 it's good value too. Have you bought a case yet? I have a universal one (advertised as being for the Note air 2), which fits and is lightweight and cheap (£10), but it isn't a stand case. I've seen a hybrid Fintie case on Amazon for around £30 that has a see through back but haven't ordered anything yet.
Finally... I have been waiting for your review!!! Awesomes as always. Hope they do something for the battery.. this is definitely on my to buy list. :)
Hi Voya. Love your work, expecially the MDG planner. May I add a suggestion to your testing? Charging time would be an interesting experiment. Since Boox does not include a charger, the different types of chargers (7.5W, 15W, 65W, etc ... ) might be of interest when comparing devices.
Perfectly aligned. Especially with this product that has a "poor" battery (let's be clear, i prefer having a light and thin device with low batterie whereas the other way)
Today's GaN char!gers can negoated that handily! Have you tried one? I use a 100W version and it's the bomb. Just avoid the knock offs as the embedded elecctronics are key to success).
This device looks great and my supernote A5X should be seriously jealous. While battery life is a lot lower than previous generation of those device imo that is an acceptable con for all the advantages. Even OS 3.3.5 seems that has a lot of great changes that I'd want so bad on my Nova Air 1. Awesome that Boox still holds the Note Air series alive. Great video. The King is dead, long live the King.
Since you know both Supernote and Boox devices, which one do you think is a better choice for business note taking and organisation, plus some books reading (Kindle app)? Is Supernote better because of focus/clean OS and OCR, or is NA3C better because of colour screen, speed and full Android?
@@tymonstrzelczyk1439 nowadays I'd would probably take NA3C(?). I'd have to seriously consider it. I considered NA2Plus when I bought Supernote anyway. I'm a Supernote for a few reasons; 1) better UI - less cluttered and more thought through in my opinion; 2) Can easily work offline and I choose when to sync (that's a con and pro at the same time); 3) Security reasons, I have more faith in Ratta then Boox to gather less if any information; 4) long term support for the device - boox supports device "only" for 2 years. To me Supernote is simply a paper substitute in which I can organize my notes but I'm rarely exporting them. From a business perspective answer yourself whether you want to integrate your notes on the device with 3rd party systems. It will be easier or just you will be able to do it on Boox NA3. Will you need/want to use Office apps like Word to review something - Supernote kind of can do it but... its lackluster. How will you do notes? Might you want to have typed notes converted from speech, which works great or you want to have recordings of meetings in notes. All of those work towards NA3C favor. Both devices have OCR and they're good. Supernote converting handwritten note to text in background is a good thing but... It seems my handwriting and Supernote don't like each other. I just can't use it while I find Boox's OCR great. Kindle and reading is great on any of those devices, maybe in favor of NA3 due to neoreader having lots of customization features
Thanks so much-great review! Really useful seeing all of the battery stats. Assuming BSR is software-driven (vs something more deeply embedded somehow), I hope they can and will continue to evolve it to improve battery impact. I'm still gonna give this one a try, though, since a more affordable than TUC and 300ppi 10" device is what I've been wanting for a long long time. Battery has been a problem for me in the past with devices like Kobo Sage, but the features here are SO GOOD. :) I saw an official employee on Reddit comment that a Note Air 3 *black & white* device is coming by end of the year, *however* if BSR is the new thing from Boox to be expected on all devices, then I'm concerned battery will be an ongoing issue there, too (even with a less dark screen that requires less front light to help with contrast). A mode/toggle capability for BSR would be really important if they can't improve it much more. Anyway, I'll see if I can make it work but feel there may not really be much to do other than wait for Boox to continue innovating and updating their OS.
I received mine yesterday. Love it! Except for 1 minor problem: With the front light on, and in a dark environment, you will see a dark shadow, a bar, on the side where there is the Boox logo. Reading under daylight or bright light is fine. My Tab Mini C and my Greyscale Tab Ultra don’t have this problem.
Wow, thank you very much for the video. I ordered a Boox Note Air 3 C and will compare it with my Remarkable 2. I absolutely love my RM but I miss the use of colors with the Tab. So I want to try a Boox. So far it seems less intuitive than a RM becaus it has so much more options. We'll see if I like it ...
Maybe, maybe not. A bigger battery would surely add to the weight which is one of the factors that differentiates this device from that of the Tab series devices
It's an all day battery, more or less. Better than a laptop. Worse than a tablet. Eh … not awful, but something to consider. Some devices simply have to have a multi-day battery life (for example, a smart watch). A tablet really needs to last a full work day, which this does. I wonder if they release a Pro version with a bigger battery.
I bought the Note Air 1 refurbished like 18 months ago and still use it as my daily driver. The 3C is very much on my purchase list (just waiting for the next payday). I don't mind the reduced battery life, half of it is probably compensated by not waiting ages for a page to turn of a website to scroll down to the next paragraph. As well, i don't plan to read or write more than a few hours per day, plenty of hours left to plug in a charger. If i need to be off grid longer, i always carry a big power pack in my backpack anyway.
The biggest thing holding me back from buying are privacy concerns with a Chinese device. Maybe I’m paranoid but I wish reviewers would do a deep dive on the security of Onyx devices. Especially since this is a device you could store a great deal of your private info on, as opposed to a regular e-reader.
Just don't connect to wifi - transfer all files via USB and there are no security concerns... Also, nearly every single electronics device is made in China these days so the irrational threat of "Chinese devices" is just political propaganda.
Yes you are paranoid. Onyx devotes great efforts in designing the eink devices to provide excellent experience both in terms of software and hardware. Why do you think they still need to profit from such a cheap act as stealing your privacy? Just because it’s a Chinese company?
If that is your concern, then use the US server, or don't use the Boox account and use Google or Microsoft to synchronize your stuff. Or don't sync at all. Bottom line is, inform yourself and you won't be paranoid, because you won't be guessing, you'll know what the state of things actually is.
I personal cut an ipad 10.2 bellmond paper-like screen protector for my tab ultra C , it works beter than the screen itself. I use the keyboard case a lot and the pin connection is not very strong but okay. I saw the new design for tab ultra c pro and thinking with the new pin , when you fold the keyboard to the back for writing could be an issue. Hopefuly they will make some software to aviod it. I quite like the light weight and texture glass for this air 3C. Thank you for the nice deep review, Channel like you changed the way I'm thinking of e-ink device and find the right one to instead my ipad. Really enjoy working, reading, typing, writing on my Ultra C. It is no where as fast as ipad but I have done way more things on my e-ink tablet than the smother ipad .
Great review as always. You make it sound so tempting :) I am hopeful about the robustness. The closer to the pen screen however does not sound like the screen will be better protected. My TUC screen broke by a „puncture“ and I have seen similar pictures, where the glass is not broken, but the screen is. Now making it easier to poke into the screen is a higher in my eyes
I very much appreciate your thorough reviews - it's what got me interested enough to buy one in the first place, which I absolutely do not regret. However, I miss stylus-testing on the tabs/readers with the original magnetic covers attached. You seem to always (or often - I admittedly haven't watched ALL your reviews) add the part about the cover in the end, after all the other testing. My Nova Air 1 gets a lot of spots where the stylus does not work at all. Most prominently near the side magnets (I have the cover with page turning buttons), but also a few areas closer to the center of the screen, because of the weaker magnet in the backplate of the cover.Therefor it can only be used for transportation and reading. I imagine quite a few people would prefer not having to remove the tablet from the cover to draw or take notes. Mine, at least, moves a lot less around with the cover fitted.
Hi Voya :) I have the remarkable 2 and the battery is great, but I only use it as a notetaker. The note 3c can do so much more! But if I used it as a notetaker ONLY, the refresh would be minimal and wifi off for the most. How would the battery be then? This senario would be more comparable battery wise when people are comparing it to other devices and calling it a dealbreaker.
Thanks a lot! I am waiting for my Note Air 3 C and it should be in a few days, while I am very worried only about the battery life. I will write my experience, but as long as I understand that it is very important to add the ability to programmatically turn off the fast screen speed, it will not be so important. The main thing is to keep the handwriting experience.
One of the things I absolutely love about my Note Air 2+ is that I don't need to charge it at all (almost.) I don't work on it all day, but mostly use it for notes and sketches and signing documents. I'm excited about the 3C, but unless they come up with an optional battery saver that disables the GPU or manage to cram a huge battery in this body, it's... sad...
Got mine yesterday. And I love it, the battery is really not great, but for me, I can only waste half of the battery a day and because I work in an office, I have cables everywhere so the battery is not a really an issue. The darker screen for me is more a deal breaker but it depends on the ambient, in office is quite ok for me to be under 30% brightness but at home I need to put to 60% and I would prefer not to have that but is what it is for the color trade-off that for me is awesome
Hey Voja, thank you for such an in depth review. I was an early adopter (Remarkable 1) and I it has been very interesting to see the development of this technology. Imagine what these will be like in 2-3 years! I think we are gonna wind up with zero visible refresh just like LCD. It will be like having a printed book with full animation that you cannot discern the screen refresh. One day most portable devices will be e-ink.
Thanks for the review. This is the device I've been waiting for. Now do I pull the trigger or wait for the Note Air 3C *Plus* with a bigger battery? Will probably buy this one after waiting a few weeks to ensure there are no design flaws that early adopters come across. Would you test the screen with the cover attached to see if the magnets cause any distortion to the screen? I've seen people report issues with other Boox products where the magnets in the covers prevented them from writing on some parts of the screen (corners).
If there ever will be a Plus-Version of the Note Air also with BSR it can only be thicker, and heavier - which in the end will be then not a Note 'Air' anymore. ;) It will then be a 'Tab Ultra' - which already exists.
I forgot to write that after your MDO video about the links I sent a feedback to Boox and they replied the next day that they fixed and it would be included in the next update, so I got it with the 3.5
It looks very similar to the Bigme Inknote Color Lite in terms of the physical package and battery size, which I have and also prefer over the clunky & heavy Tab Ultra C. I read more than I write, so the lighter weight is important to me, as is the absence of the Boox camera lump on the back of Tab series. The embedded Bigme cameras don't prevent it from lying flat when writing; this will also be the case for NA 3C with its absence of cameras and thus flat back. Nice review, as always, Voja.
Thx Voja for this review. I always said I'll buy a Nova boox when they'll go with an Android 12. This Note Air seem to indicate i'll go to the cashier soon.
Thank you, Voya, very detailed review, as always. For me this device looks amazing, but the battery life is a deal breaker unfortunately. It is OK with the battery life during writing or serfing, but reading take significant part in my usage scenarios (actually the main - reading & remarks writing with occasional notetaking). So I hope that reading battery life will be improved. For now it looks like very poor for reading experience, as for me. Anyway Air 3C is a good step in design and feature set. It is nearly perfect fr me except this very significant (for me) con related to battery.
I will stay with B&W. The yelloishness and slight greenish tint I see as well are too much for me, and I would not be willing to turn up the front light to the necessary height all the time to compensate for the lack of proper white. I will wait anyway until end of next year before I consider replacing my Note Air 2, hope there is a Note Air 3 or 4 without a C until then:). Thanks for the great review, curious to see the writing speed test.
Would you consider the Air 3 (non c)? It is not only black and white but also lacks BSR. I’m not sure how much of an upgrade it is over your Note Air 2. Same here, I’m hoping they have a color screen that’s not so dull. Gallery 3 looks nice, but the tech has other problems, namely the complicated refresh cycle.
Great review. We live in exciting times for display technology. A couple of years ago this wouldn't have seemed feasible. Of course the cons are there and it can still get better, but it's exciting to see these developments.
Nice review! Can't wait for the new version of "The big Boox Guide" and I think I'll stick with my Note Air 2 for the time being. Although I don't use it all day to read and write, I charge it every two weeks and sometimes even longer. So dropping to about 15 hours would be a no go for me
Thank you so much for your thorough review. I bought this thing mainly for my note taking. I have been using ipad for note taking but I feel it's a little bit not enough for me. I am looking forward to having this !
Wow! You own a OnePlus 7 pro like me! 😀great device Thanks for the review, this is a great leap forward for the note line, I can't afford it now but hopefully I'll do next year and I'll replace my note air (1)
Yeah, I'm sticking with the OnePlus 7 Pro for as long as it will run. I had to roll back to Android 12, because the last update they had ruined the device for me, but once I did that, I got my great phone back, and I'm a happy puppy :)
Excellent review! Love that you go deep, & that you're an experienced user. That comes across. I have questions: 1. Screen cover: can you recommend a matte screen cover film to work with the Tab Ultra C Pro? I like the idea of the screen cover film on this device. Would such an add-on work on the Tab Ultra C? I like the idea of it feeling like paper, though I confess I look for minimal resistance on paper (I use a Jetstream rollerball w gel ink; not quite stylus on glass feel but pretty close). Samsung's stylus on glass screen (their Fold 4 smartphone) is just a little too slippery. 2. Diffs w Tab Ultra C UI (lack of widgets). I use widgets! That's a significant diff & glossed over in other reviewers' work. I guess I'd want the Tab Ultra C. Thanks. 3. My Daily Organizer looks AWESOME. Well done! Can I link MDO Calendar on Boox w my Samsung phone's default calendar (Samsung Calendar)? Or if I can't, can I run MDO on my Android Samsung phone & synch with MDO on a Boox? BTW I like that you've provided customizable hyperlinks functionality in your MDO. Brilliant. I know you weren't reviewing MDO here but it rocks. If anyone's looking for a multi-platform multi-function organizer, you should check out Voja's MDO app at mydeepguide.com
Hi Voja, thanks for another excellent review! My Note Air 3 C arrived yesterday. I have to get used to the darker screen (coming from a Tab Ultra) but otherwise I am extremely happy with the device except for one thing: compared to my Tab Ultra, the Wifi reception is noticeably worse, especially when being a bit further away from my router. Is this something you experience too?
Hi, great video as usual. Have you made an in-depth video which directly compares boox note air 3c, tab ultra c, kindle scribe and Remarkable 2 ? Would love to see one.
Love the review and love Boox Note Air 3C, I wantend all in one divice for reading in a good price, I didn't like the full tablet aproach of the other boox divices, for me this is excelent, thank you boox, thank you for the review
Somebody mentioned bellow that an Boox Note Air 3 Black & White should come by the end of the year, and at least will solve the screen brightness issue.Because the battery life problem was there also in reading mode, flipping a page only once every 20 min, with technically just one refresh every 20 min, I do no thing that BSR is the cause of the battery issue ... unless is poorly implemented, and that should be fixable. I have a feeling that new SOC together with the Android 12/OS 3.5 is the actual energy hog which might be harder to fix.
Great review!! Can you please cover the update/test on the Live Screen Sharing in color for this model? Boox has had many issues around: 1). Showing the placement of mouse on screen when not writing ... 2). Lag in displaying or until pen is lifted ... 3). Showing the live screen on PC/Mac in color.
October 2024. I am thinking of maybe buying a Note Air 3C. Should I go for it now or better wait a bit as a newer version is going to be launched soon...? I see it is sold out on the Boox website...
@@MyDeepGuideThank you for your answer. As my RM2 no longer works, I will keep on writing on a paper notebook (😢) until a replacement is announced. I hope not too long...
Well... I have to admit... I purchased the Note Air 3C... I own an ipad pro, a Scribe and a SuperNote as well... and the more I use the 3C, I'm not sure I even prefer it over the others(!). Reading books on the Scribe are simply much sharper and more pleasant with the great B&W screen. Reading comics are simply more enjoyable on my ipad than the "compromised" color display. And I'm not sure the notetaking on the 3C warrants the extra expense compared to the supernote. I think the darker color screen just doesn't satisfy me :-\ I'll continue to try it out some more, but may end up returning it :( I REALLY want to love this, but... I almost feel like it doesn't excel at anything and is ok for all of 'em. But if you have other devices that excel at each of those activities (reading, notetaking, comics...), this doesn't quite satisfy in anything. Hopefully the next generation of color screens can up the game. I have to rewatch Voja's videos/reviews, but I'm curious what his take on this... i.e. this Boox is "ok" with everything but doesn't excel at anything...? The color display really is starting to underwhelm me the more i use it.
And some of the things that really stand out to me: hand/palm recognition is horrible (it seems to regularly get confused when my palm touches the screen while writing); i'm constantly having to refresh the display when reading on it, else tons of ghosting; perhaps i need to play with the kindle app settings, but it just doesn't feel as sharp/pleasant to read on compared to the scribe; the darker screen (altho when i have a light aimed right on it, it's definitely better)--no question the supernote/scribe/B&W screens just look better in normal lighting. I still want to give this a shot--and see if the color and android features bring more to it that I'm not appreciating so far...
I totally agree with you. The reviews of this device are excellent, but my experience was a little mediocre. The screen is too dark without lights, but when you add lights you can see the pixels in the colour layer so the “paper” looks grainy. The effect this has on the pleasure of using the device was sufficient that I picked up my RM2 and Scribe over the NA3C, so returned it within the window. Maybe I need the extra contrast of a black and white screen. I envy those who don’t. I’m hoping for a 300ppi version of the NA3 soon, or a 300dpi Supernote (or for Amazon to actually develop decent software for the Scribe)
@@davidr1431 Ironically, in the process of comparing the 2 new boox devices to my existing tablets (ipad pro, supernote A5X, Scribe... and I have a RM2 which i simply never use), I've come to really appreciate what those other devices do so well. The ipad pro with pencil and notability... it's just SO GOOD! And frankly the glass feel is mostly a non-issue for me compared to how good the note taking functionality in pristine color is. I still think it's generations beyond the eInk 😕And the supernote has gone up a notch for me after this experience--it just does a bunch of things right (they need to get a 300 DPI screen in 10.3+ size asap). And the Scribe is just such a good writing experience and crisp to look at--if they can just get their software a** in gear (the new pdf export with writing recognition is pretty outstanding tho). I'm convinced--color eInk just doesnt work for me until the device can stand out in some way besides mediocre color. The color has to be outstanding, not fuzzy mediocre. I still have the Tab Ultra C Pro thru the holidays (amazon holiday return window is great)... if the keyboard ever gets here (it now says around december 29!!! WTH), maybe that will convince me. But I'm losing interest...
The other thing that killed the NAC3 for me... yes, the design is nice for note taking (aside from the fuzzy screen issue)... but I couldn't find a good way to easily sync AND WRITE using the NAC3 and my mac or Windows machines. With notability on my ipad and mac, you can work and sync seamlessly between the two. That functionality is what prevents me from using any of my eInk devices as my notetaking tool for serious stuff requiring mac/PC sync. On Boox, is there a good way to do that AND retain the quality writing experience/latency? Boox does not have a PC/mac version of their Notes app, correct? Is one coming out?
I like this device. It is very tempting. I like to read ebooks while lying down typically, and it is easier to hold an 8 inch device in the hand, so that makes the tab mini c about equally tempting. This one is faster, of course, which is nice, and it is nicer to have a larger device for pdf reading. I can read larger pdf files on the 8 inch screens, but it isn't as pleasant (I have a Nova 3 and a Note Air one, but nothing in color). And I suppose I don't really read any colored books, though I might if I got a color screen for my ereader. The idea of a paper-like screen sounds nice, and that is something the tab mini c doesn't seem to have, and the tab mini c has more glare. I don't know. You like this quite a bit more than the tab mini c, which is hard to ignore. On the other hand, I don't know if either device will beat my Sage or my Forma for just e-reading. I think I'm confused at this point, but thank you for all the good information.
Hello Voya. Great review as always. I think you may have missed a big point though. You raved about the fact that the case is able to stand horizontally much like most iPad cases would do but there are other folds in that case. I am 90% sure that the triangle fold would allow you to also use that as a vertical stand. Notice that the back has a fold length wise that is about 1/3 of the back. I am fairly sure that stays attached to the case but the rest of the back could be pulled away, the triangle folded in towards the Note Air, and the far edge of what had been the front attached to the opposite side of the back. That would create an angled vertical stand so you could read/type in portrait mode. I could see that being used particularly for music.
Hi Voja, I'm curious how this would work for reading and annotating music. I see from your room that you are a keen guitarist and I'm curious about which e-reader you would use for reading scores or charts? I know that most people say 10.3 inches is too small for music, but does the increased ppi make it an acceptable compromise? I am hoping to find something to replace all of my paper scores that I could also use to read books.
Great video. It might seem obvious but do you feel that color e-ink is enough of a gamechanger to warrant the tradeoffs of battery etc? Could you explain why, or which users it would be worth it for?
Thanks for the characteristically thorough review! I'm sure you've answered this somewhere, so sorry for asking but: on Boox devices, does the refresh mode affect the wiring latency at all in the native apps?
Hi Voya, excellent deep review as always. I was afraid that the battery life would be horrendous and unfortunately I was right. I have moved from the NA2 to the TUC. I have to charge almost daily my TUC, I browse a lot the web, news apps, emails etc. I would not like to have a device that I have to charge twice per day. I am used by now to the TUC, the extra weight without the cover is minimal for reading and I don’t mind the clearer screen. I use it more for reading than writing. I start getting tired of the delays of the old CPU, but this is not enough of a reason to upgrade, especially since the new TUC Pro seems to have also smaller battery than the old TUC. I have the 3.5 beta in my TUC and I love the software upgrades that BOOX has implemented. Unless there is a huge update in the screen technology, I think I will stick to my TUC for the coming years.
It is disappointing that the battery life is not better. Also, my Kindle Scribe charges up quickly, in no time flat, but I'm reading this Note Air 3 C takes up to 7 hours if charging from something approaching a discharged state. However, on the positive side, since I absolutely love writing on my Scribe, and - if writing on the 3 C is in fact better, as you indicate - that is indeed exciting! For me, the writing experience is tantamount. Your thoughts on how to handle keeping the 3 C power up to par (like charging up one or more times throughout the day) would be interesting.
That's not correct. Mine charges in less than two hours. I never measure how much less, but I do know that each time I'd put it to charge, when I check it again in 2 hrs, it's at 100%. Of course that will depend on the type of charger used, so yeah, if you hook it up to the computer for a trickle charge, that will take significantly longer time than if you use a regular mobile phone charger. Writing feel is very similar between the two, but for me and my taste, I prefer the NA3C a bit more, because it has more "give" and doesn't feel as hard as Kindle Scribe.
@@MyDeepGuide Clearly your experience in charging up the device seems to align with common sense. I had just asked Google last night how long it takes and received back, “Charging the Boox Note Air 3 to 75% took over 5 hours, suggesting a full charge would take just under 7 hours, and the speaker recommends charging overnight without any negative impacts on the device.” But I see now this reference is to the new B&W device - the NA3 - NOT the NA3C. Thank you for clarifying this, as it would make a significant difference, obviously.
Thanks for great review! At the moment i have Pocketbook inkpad 3pro. Want to try the best reader in 10inch size for reading not just books, but also magazines and newspapers. Also has to be on android so i can download newspapers applications. Is it this model Boox note air 3 C is today the best model on the market? What is better for my purposes (reading only) color or BW, Boox note air 3C or Boox note air 3? Thanks in advance
Hi, Thank you so much for the detailed review. Is it wise to wait for plus model for this device as they have launched note air 2 plus after some months? What do you suggest?
How long does the battery last for using it only with writing and sketching, with no internet? I'm really stuck between the Note Air 3C and the Tab X. I want to use it in my writing, building worlds etc, imagine drawing an architectural layout for a space station that takes place in a horror story, I don't see that the Note Air3 C can do more efficiently than the Tab X. I could spend hours, so the battery is also a problem, but I do like the paper like sound, which means if I get the Tab X, I would have to get a doodroo paper protector, and titanium nibs. There really is no one solution to all to this. :) Edit: 14.4 hours of battery life is fantastic, better than my phone that lasts two hours :)

Thanks Voja, I can only imagine how much work it is to put these videos together. Looking forward to the OS 3.5 videos!
Thank you very much!
the dedication you put in those Videos is exceptional
Thank you very much!
Voja has sold me on the original Note Air. Now Voja has sold me on Note Air 3. Awesome job. Thank you.
That battery life is a killer. Please, Boox, add a software "switch" so that we can disable Super Refresh if we prefer to have battery life over fast refresh.
There are a number of options to reduce battery drain, will be interesting to try those out.
Thank you very much!
Nice to see you so content again! Thanks for your continued testing and sharing. :)
*Another brilliant device by Boox.*
However, although the rate the the unit burns through a battery charge would not be a concern to me... as it gets you through the day, the speed it cycles through battery charges would, unless the user can replace the battery themselves.
I use my Samsung S7 for 4 years now for note taking, and while not bad, it's nowhere near to what the
Note Air 3c feels like.
Do you use the Tab X Now you have the NAC3C? And how does the writing compare between NAC3C and Tab X?
How is tab x?
@@mihaialbu I use Tab X every day for my professional needs (PDF reading/writing/drawing/anotating and Note taking/Calculations documenting). Perfect big screen device (A4). No more single piece of paper on my desk... :-)

At this point, the biggest problem for Onyx might become their very fast release cycle. I'm starting to become hesitant to buy anything because every time a new, even more exciting tablet is released, I think "maybe there will be yet another better one in just 3-6 months"... and there usually is....
If you keep waiting, you'll never get something
@@wernerarts Yes, I know, exactly... it's a real conundrum... Well, 1st world problems, I guess... 😅
Yea my biggest issue with this is the lack of support. You won’t get major updates so you’re stuck with what you have until you buy another Boox device.
I prefer the Supernote or ReMarkable approach with better software support and continuous improvements.
@@dpav02 This claim is untrue
Great review! Now we need Boox to have the note taking features of the Supernote!
I actually wonder what these are? Never had one , so do not have personal opinion...
Can't wait till mine is delivered and I can finally start using my first enote/book device. Been following your channel for years because I wanted to buy one and this is the one. Luckily your review is also very positive so now I'm even more hyped for when it arrives. Thank you.
I’ve never owned one and thinking of getting this one as well. How has your experience been?
@@andreachandler6992 I really like it and use it more and more. Writing works great and reading (comics) with color gives it just something extra.
If only Zotero would release an eink compatible android app, this tablet would be killer for academics
There is a beta of this currently, seems to work fine!
I'm impressed by how much you love this device (battery life apart)! I've been following you for years now and I know you are no fanboy and can be very critical, so seeing your love for this device was really something contagious!
I felt the same way 😅
I agree, but your personal experience may be different.
I've been daily driving the Note Air 2 for a long long time and I love it, but this might be the one that gets me to upgrade.
Hi Vojislav, thank you! I ordered mine after watching your review.
I basically need it to read, highlight and take some notes, and what I value most is being able to read without a front light, for greater rest for my eyes.
what a pity for the battery life, it was one of the main pros of choosing e-ink over a normal tablet
The technology is the reason . Battery can be expanded with a power bank if you want it.
The main pro is the preservation of visual health.
Thank You. Love your comparison of screen background whiteness/greyness compared to Black and White. I like good contrasts a lot and this is my main deal breaker. Thanks for saving me the hassle of buying and returning.
@gytisbl - well now there's the Air 3 black and white version. Just ordered mine and can't wait.
@@honeychurchgipsy6I’ve had the Air 3 for a few days and am loving it. Much better for me than the 3C was, that I returned. How are you finding yours?
@@honeychurchgipsy6 Yes, I bought the matching case. It isn’t worth the asking price for sure. I have used the stand position quite a lot though.

Thank you for your brilliant review!!! Just another amazing review 😊 waiting for the OS 3.5 guides
This was a great video and definitely was on the fence, now not so much. Thank you.
@@tymonstrzelczyk1439you said business. Boox are not known for their security unfortunately :/, just for that the other one is better.
Love it! Except for 1 minor problem:
With the front light on, and in a dark environment, you will see a dark shadow, a bar, on the side where there is the Boox logo.
How did you like the Air 3C compared to your Remarkable 2? I’m looking for a first e ink tablet to replace my notebook for notes at work.
Any update?
Thanks! Just ordered 😇
Thanks, for the great review. I will buy it :)
Trying to decide between this and the new remarkable pro
Maybe they will make a Note Air 3C Plus with a bigger battery like they did with the NA2+?
Yeah its kinda silly, that the smaller Tab Mini C has a larger battery capacity than the NA3C.
Maybe, maybe not. A bigger battery would surely add to the weight which is one of the factors that differentiates this device from that of the Tab series devices
The cover enables portrait standing mode. Woot!
I'll keep my Tab Ultra C for taking notes and more demanding tasks and keep my Nova Air for reading. I think my combo is perfect for me right now.
Received it this morning, and coming from the Nova 2 which I absolutely loved, which has a paper-like surface too
i'm especially interested into your compared opinion as the Nova 2 is what i use now and why maybe i was hoping a mini-c on the same dimension/weight
What about the darker screen ? This the key point that keeps me hesitating...
@@Ummraramd I share his concern. It's not that that Onyx may profit from personal data, but more of the Chinese government being Chinese government.
If that is your concern, then use the US server, or don't use the Boox account and use Google or Microsoft to synchronize your stuff. Or don't sync at all.
Bottom line is, inform yourself and you won't be paranoid, because you won't be guessing, you'll know what the state of things actually is.
The same for me. I’m waiting for Remarkable 3
Voja, should a person wait until next month to see if an onyx note air 4C comes out or buy this now ?
Mine arrives tomorrow and I’m ecstatic!!
How are you finding the device in use?
Najbolji si Vojo !!! Kupujem ga!!
I love writing with the Calligraphy tool on the Remarkable 2. I would love them to introduce that on the Boox Note Air 3C. Mine is ordered.
I wish there was a way to charge it without opening up the folio, but otherwise looks amazing. Great review!
I have the same beef with Note Air 1 and 2. All they need to do is move the USB port to any of the other three exposed edges.
Congratulations, you now have 50.000 subscribers. 🥳

One of the things I absolutely love about my Note Air 2+ is that I don't need to charge it at all (almost.) I don't work on it all day, but mostly use it for notes and sketches and signing documents.
I'm excited about the 3C, but unless they come up with an optional battery saver that disables the GPU or manage to cram a huge battery in this body, it's... sad...

The pen for me is not an issue with the smart scribe... scratching the text for erasing is awesome
Hi. Does it heat up while charging it and using it a the same time? On my last iPad it was so warm that it was uncomfortable to write.
@@pablominelli8044 I did not test it like that but I can try it
Hey Voja, thank you for such an in depth review.
Please revisit the DESTA results for Note Air 2 Plus after updating it to beta 3.5. For me, it feels like writing experience has improved.
Bring it on!
Thank you so much for your detailed review. How is the lag / usability with 3rd party note taking apps, such as One Note and Evernote?
Watching your video on my note air 3c ❤
From the Boox homepage it looks like the cover can also be used as a portrait stand? There seems to be the extra diagonal crease on the cover?
Hi Voja, are those speakers useful? Or maybe it’s a waste of space?
Let's see!
How do you compare the note taking aspect compared to supernotes?
It’s official. I want the monochrome version of this device. Any idea when it will be released?
Am waiting for this also.
Wow! You own a OnePlus 7 pro like me! 😀great device
Thanks for the review, this is a great leap forward for the note line, I can't afford it now but hopefully I'll do next year and I'll replace my note air (1)
I have questions:
I do wish it was available in white.
No, actually for me and my router it was the opposite, I got a better reception than on the Tab Ultra?
I recommend waiting just a bit ;)
@MyDeepGuide Hey Voja, please see my comment/question above re: sync'd notes between boox and mac/pc... Thanks!
I'm drooling, but I'm also wishing for a 13 inch version.
Good Ereader has a video that shows it in vertical mode.
In 3.5, do the text notes now sync with services like Dropbox and Evernote like the handwritten notes do? They don’t on earlier releases.
As always, your reviews are super useful, I love my Note Air2 and I will definitely buy this one, life in color is better 🤩🤩
Great review....!!! Tempted to pick one up. Hehehe... Also, I don't know why but your voice makes me sleepy. Hehehe...
Great review as usual 👏
Do you know which boox devices will get the os 3.5?
I'll time my next charge session on the NA3C and follow back here with the details on the time and the charger specifications used.
The Note Air 2 Plus had another official magnetic cover that can fold so they did change that for that model :P
Edit: 14.4 hours of battery life is fantastic, better than my phone that lasts two hours :)
