Unboxing my new 9375/7500 Champion generator. I don’t believe I mentioned it in the review but this is a fairly loud machine. It measured 91db on exhaust side and a reasonable 74db from 20ft away.
This generator is great! I borrowed one and it ran 2 freezer and one fridge/freezer in my garage along with my fridge/freezer in our house during an extended power outage so now I'm the proud owner of one of these myself!
On 09/01/21 My 7year old dual Champion ran for 3 hours flawlessly on LPG for 3hours then quit as the video showed. I had completely forgot about a new AVR I obtained in 2015 , I marked it as new at the time, then placed it on a shelf until today's video reminded me.. I don't remember why it was sent to me, evidently my problem at that time was different than the video's and was solved at the time by other means. Right now a Champion tech is helping me out, I had to reschedule for tomorrow as it was storming here in Va. Champion sticks with customers when they need advice regardless of the age of the generator. I can't imagine any other supplier doing the same. Thanks TH-cam as well.
I just got the same one a few weeks ago, so far I noticed starting on propane is a little tricky but starting on gasoline fires up right away, not sure if you or anyone has any tips.
How is the noise level with this one? The specs say 74 dBA from 23'. I understand noise can be subjective but is it reasonable, seem a bit much, what do the neighbors think, etc.
I won’t lie, it’s loud. I have tested it and it’s within spec though. I’m in a standard rural area with neighbors pretty close and they have no issue with it. You can certainly hear it inside at all times but easily drowned out with our electronics running. If you want quiet then you would need to look at inverter generators. Overall, I’m still very happy with this model and we run it for over 75hrs now.
Nice review! Any additional thoughts to add since owning it? I just picked up this very unit today on sale at CT to replace my 6250/5000 PowerStroke, which I may keep as a backup. Unfortunately, we have only electric forced air and one 20000 BTU mini split. We live in New Brunswick Canada, so it can get quite cold. My goal is to prevent pipe freezing in the event of an extended outage. Would heat two bedrooms, one for me and my wife and one for the kids. Hoping to run the mini split (which claims a nominal 1700 watts), a space heater, fridge (energy star and max 3.0A running), a 1/3 hp sump pump (5.2A and runs 10 seconds about once every 2-3 days), microwave, a couple LED bulbs and a small smart tv. I'm liking your idea of getting a battery pack for the cell phones and laptops. Obviously everything won't be running at once, so I'm optimistic that the 7500 watts will suffice. It's all going to be running through a GenerLink provided by the utility company. Not super crazy about running the mini split on the generator, but have read lots about people doing it without issue. Not sure how effective the AVR in the unit is.
Overall I have to say I’m impressed with this generator. It’s super easy to start with either the electric start or the pull cord. The only drawback is how loud it is under a full load. It does stay within the documented limits so I can’t really complain. I live in Montréal so we get down pretty low as well. I used this unit for 24hrs during a cold spell of about -32C without issue. We had 4 1500 watt heaters, 2 fridge/freezers, internet router and a couple other items running most of the time. I have a voltage monitor on the output and I can say that the voltage remains “fairly” stable. When one of the larger heaters kicks on it does dip a little and tends to overcompensate back up. From what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t worry to much although I will be keeping my more delicate items off the genny power.
That's an impressive load. The heaters are real power hogs for sure. I am a little concerned about running my mini split off the generator. If I keep my other generator, I may designate it for the basement stuff - sump pump and a couple space heaters. I would only then have to run it intermittently. Taking that load off the upstairs gen though would make me feel a little better about running the mini split. So, what's you take on the fuel consumption? That's one factor I overlooked on this unit. It would be nice to be able to sleep the whole night and refuel in the morning, but with this machine, I think that would be pushing it.
You need to understand that the typical non-inverter generator puts out a total harmonic distortion (THD) in the 10-25% range. Conversely, inverter generators typically put out less than 3% THD. So, if want to run a high efficency (read computer driven) furnace, tankless hot water heater, smart TV, computer, or UPS, the 10-25% THD from a non-inverter generator can reak havoc and sometimes even damage the computer controls of your high efficency furnace or computer driven devices. So, if you want to run sensitive electronics, be sure to get an inverter-generator.
my second generator and they died the same way. current generator 15 hrs and continue to stop....... champion in my opinion sucks.... faulty low oil switch. save yourself the headache and grab a brand name.

Without a doubt but there are plenty of ways to mitigate the potential risks.
