I started to cry when you said "it isn't enough to just get up every day and go through the motions, you need to love life and live it"..... I'm 61 and have been going through a hard time... I gave up my home and my marriage because it was very emotionally abusive.. now I am alone, and every day is a struggle. Your words have encouraged me to not give up....xo..still crying..

Oh I am so touched by your words...Oh Peggy I know how hard it is to go through a divorce...and I am so happy you you got away from an abusive marriage. You are now free and can have the life you always dreamed of. After my divorce, I felt so down and I struggled for such a long time. I started to get better when I felt I had a reason to get up every day...I found new friends and new hobbies...I started to have a new sense of " home" even though it was a tiny one-bedroom place...it was mine and I loved it. And when I got up in the morning, nobody was hurting me...and slowly...I started to heal. There was a new life just waiting for me...I just had to find the strength to see it and feel it...and tap into the desire to want to take care of it. Please, if you have time, let us know how you are! Sending you lots of love and prayers, Susan & Desi

@@LittlePoet thank you for your kind words and offering of hope.. for taking the time to respond. It would be a dream come true for me to someday have a beautiful little brick "cottage" with a overflowing garden oasis. I'm so proud of you. I have a friend who lives in Escanaba...if I ever visit Michigan, I would love to meet you..xo
Of course, I would have to bring my "Beau" ... he's my little Desi, and has literally, saved me through all of this.. love to you 🥰

You have found the right community! We are here for eachother...you will see ...one day you will wake up, and it still may hurt, but it just wont matter as much! Between This chanel and Mel Robbins, I have even more support that some of my friends! Just find something you LOVE TO DO... and pour yourself into it! It will make everything easier. Praying for you! Find an in person community as well in a faith community, or a local charity. In giving of yourself you will receive and heal!💗🎉 and get a pet!!!🐾

Congratulations!! I hope this is seen by all so they can buy a home.
When I was 30 I was a mother of three, and saved my income tax return for about three or four years. I found a house for 87k in California. I purchased it, and people were shocked that as a single mom with not even a high paying job saved to buy my own home. That was the best investment ever! I sold it later and made a profit and later sold that property and made a bigger profit. I remarried and we bought a really nice home with both of our profits from our homes. We moved to an area that was my dream, in a very nice neighborhood. Yes dreams do come true!

I am so beyond happy for you. My first husband, the father of my boys and I bought a tiny home the first year we were married in 1970. It was only a one bedroom with an enclosed in back porch. Our best friends had lived there for 10 years and we adored this tiny home and with our meager savings we bought it for $12,900. Through the years we turned the back porch into another bedroom for our boys who we had in 1974 and then in 1979. In 1983 tragedy struck when my husband that I adored told me he " Loved me but was no longer in love with me". He refused counseling and after his 2 year affair he married the "other" woman and we had been divorced for sometime, me holding on to our dissolving marriage by a thread. Long story....he traded his half of the house for never receiving a penny if any future retirement funds. We lived just the boys and I, me saving every penny and added a. Bathroom a closet and another screened in room which gave both boys their privacy. Many years later when a remarried to a wonderful devoted man with six children I had moved into his much larger home......but wait theirs good news. After saving every penny he could.... my youngest son bought the tiny house and now it was his. He has now been married for three years and he and his wife are very happy their. They have made it the most beautiful tiny COTTEGE with the most fantastic landscaped yard. He is 44 now and so very happy there. So the tiny house served us very well. It's an enchanted piece of memories and we all still love it so much. Even though it is no longer mine it still in the family. God Bless you... And may your tiny house bring you all the joy that mine brought me. Love from Debbie and Dexter-Dog my sweet rescued tiny Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California.🙏🙏🙋👍👍🐾💞🏠✝️🇺🇸

I too struggled for years to have my own little house. Too long a story and too much heartache but I finally made it. Even though I sometimes wish it had happened when my son was a boy and life would have been a lot better for both of us. Now my son lives in another country and I had to move miles away from my birthplace but at age 77 I’m now secure in my own little house. Sending all the best vibes from Ireland. 🌈☘️

Susan, don't listen to the doubters. My 76 year old sister lived in an assisted living facility with her older husband. They were in lockdown for 2 years during covid. When he passed she decided she'd had enough of the place and wanted to buy a condo to get her freedoms back. Her friends(?) who also lived there said "at your age?" "You're just going to end up back here!". I told her not to listen to them, they likely didn't have the courage and were jealous. I said even if you find that 5, 7 or however many years you can live on your own, they will be happy years. So very happy for you Susan.

We are survivors. I worked hard but as a single mom I never had money for a home and never got any help getting one. I started with a Fannie Mae loan and put $3,000. down on a condo, selling it 10 years later for a nice profit. Most friends and family couldn’t understand when I bought a big new 4 bedroom home in a with a big yard. Oh well! I’m now 75 and my beloved dog is almost 13. Ha! We are happy! I love my big yard and have planted fruit trees and a garden. I love watching all the decorating shows on you tube for idea and Linda Vader is a favorite for garden ideas. Be happy. Life is short, so do whatever you want in deep gratitude.

If we weren't meant to manifest it, we wouldn't dream it. Every wonderful thing I manifested, I dreamt of first. Unfortunately, the same is true for the negative things I gave energy to. When I was a very young girl living in Chicago, I dreamt of living in a white apartment building with a pool. I now live in the first floor unit of a white "villa," which is surrounded by palm trees, arika, monstera, ginger bushes, ferns, and mahogany trees. The pool is a mere 200-300 feet away from my front entrance. I'm so grateful to my inner child for that vision!

Owned 3 homes in my lifetime, and worked my whole life. Marriage broke up, I wasn't working so no income except for husband's retirement, but had money from the sale of the house. God dropped my new house in my lap, I got approved for a mortgage by a new lender, bid on and won the house. Paperwork went to the underwriters, who denied my mortgage! I had cash but not enough to buy house outright. Found a small retirement account that was losing money, cashed it in and then had enough money to pay cash for the house with only $868.00 left to my name! God provided jobs for me, sometime 3 at the same time, and I was able to save money and pay all expenses until I myself retired and began a pension and SS. God got me through my tribulation and has blessed me non-stop since.

I had to give up my home and beloved garden, friends and job to move out of state to be closer to my son and DIL and 3 grandsons. Susan, I have to say I never questioned for a minute that you would buy a home because that was what you said you wanted! You are a smart woman, you did your research on what needed to be done to qualify for a loan. Then you worked hard on your channel, (making it first-rate), saved your money, stayed out of debt and were realistic about staying in a comfortable price range. In other words, you were pro-active. YOU made your dream come true! Many people squander their money and then claim to not have means, when they just made different choices on how to live their lives. I've known people who claim to be poor while they have a spiffy car with a huge monthly payment sitting in the garage. That was the choice they made. I wasn't able to buy my first home until I was 46 and divorced and making my own choices. Took me years to get a good credit rating and save up while earning a pretty low wage. It was a small condo, but it was mine! And (just like you), the mortgage was hundreds of dollars lower than my former rent! I love that you are taking the bedroom with three windows! Hey, it's your house, take any room you want, Honey!! 😃🤣❤❤❤

Susan, First let me say, I am so happy for you! You are such a precious person and have worked hard for this.
If you have all the seed packets that you wrote the saying “my home”maybe put them into a shadow box. And somehow incorporate a picture of your home in the shadow box too.
What I am about to say may sound silly, but move in and let the house talk to you (not literally of course).
I heard that one time from a teacher and she was right. Before you start hanging pictures, and buying window treatments, get settled and then start making it yours and Desi’s home.
I’m wishing you many blessings and so much happiness in your new home.

You will have so much fun planning your new life. I live in a converted camp in Maine in a little body of water surrounded by wildlife. I’m in heaven. Lost my high school sweetheart to cancer. He was only 55. Took me a lot of time 14 years to get to my happy place.
You and Desi are so cute! I have a little dog too, Sissy.
I’m sending you all my encouragement and love. Looking forward to future episodes! ❤️❤️

And-- you also are a model for so many ladies who are between a rock and a grand canyon. It is possible. I have been praying for you. You deserve all the wonderful things that are coming. More and more and more ARE COMING. DESI-DO and his backyard. And a garden hat for you.

Susan, I’ve been watching your channel for a long time, but this is the first time I‘ve commented. First of all, let me say, Congratulations! Your new home is beautiful and I can so relate to all of your planning and dreaming and goals. About 5 years ago, my husband and I talked about moving from CA and retiring in another state and buying a house! Well, fast forward, as soon as my husband retired last June, his back and knees started to fail him (knee replacements are in his future). Because of his health and the fact that all 4 of our kids and their families (7 grandchildren total) live within an hour from us, we decided to stay in CA. We’re a week away from closing on a manufactured home in a beautiful Senior Community. Like you, there will be a backyard with a small lawn area that I have so many goals for: a patio, stepping stones, dwarf fruit trees and flowers, so many flowers. There is also an enclosed porch that needs some help, but a project I’m looking forward to. I spend a lot of time on TH-cam getting ideas. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your enclosed sun room. Looking forward to future videos of you in your new home. So happy for you and Desi.

I am so excited for you and Desi! We were pregnant at the exact same time. My first child turns 50 in a little more then 2 weeks, in fact he turns 50 ON Mother's Day. I was in labor on Mother's Day in 1973! Happiest day of my life. I loved it so much that had one the next year and another the next year! How time flies. Downsizing is overrated in my opinion. Did that in 2015 and I still regret it. Sold 95% of everything we owned. Don't listen to the naysayers. I can't wait to see how your journey unfolds. You have excellent taste, so feminine and so comforting is your decor. Best wishes to you and Desi! ENJOY!

For all of us the same rule applies. Do not allow yourself to spend money you do not have. Borrowing money is very easy, paying it back with interest is not nearly as much fun. I watch HGTV and am shocked and dismayed by women who feel they are above simply painting kitchen cabinets rather than ripping them out and replacing them. They swear that the old stove is an abomination . All carpet must go and thousands of dollars must be spent to replace them with special order hardwoods, or whatever is not what is already there. Then they face the bathrooms which they swears no human should have to use. Thousands more. Remember who you are and what money you can safely spend. Maybe think outside the box, as they say.

"See you at the new house!" That line at the end made me cry! See you at the new house. I think I've shared before...I've always dreamed of having a house of my own someday. I wanted to have a little house when my daughter was growing up. I longed for a yard for her to play in...and a space for a little pool and to have dinners outside with friends and a garden. Well, it was not mean to be. I was too busy working and in survival mode as a single mother. I did the best I could in our lovely rental...but there is no yard, no parking space, no washer, nothing extra...just our four walls, but it's our home. At 55, I am still dreaming of owning my own home someday and maybe it will be a place for future grandchildren. I haven't given up on the dream. Recently, you have come to mind and you have given me so much hope. I'm very happy for you and looking forward to this new chapter. Thank you very much for showing us. It can be done. Blessings for the move. Can't wait to see next week.

Then shocking news for me ... at 59 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer...but wait... God blessed me and I was declared clear a year later.... And then my "dread disease" insurance policy paid out and 😊 I was able to buy my dream home!! Maybe if I am Blessed with grandchildren then they can play in my garden. I upsized at 60! Aaah, the twists and turns of life!! Keep dreaming! You are doing the best you can at any moment with what you do have! That is the best you can do and you are creating a special home where you are! Oh my! I have been watching your channel for awhile. You are motivating and inspiring. When your video is over, I feel at peace, relaxed, I realize that at 70 life is not over. I laughed when you talked about your garden seeds. I'm a quilter. I was involved in a relationship with a man that had two little boys. I took on the task of caring for them. There wasn't money now to buy fabric! But I wanted color in my life. So, the boys and I would go to the fabric store and look around. My purchase was embroidery thread, because it was cheap! It allowed me to have color in my life and dream of easier days ahead. The boys used to ask why I bought that thread and I would tell them because I can't afford fabric. They are grown now. I have more fabric than I will ever be able to sew. I miss the days when they were little and I could only buy thread.

I find the best design tip is a neutral wall pallet of various shades so each room can have its own color scheme brought in via window treatments and accessories. It makes it so much easier to change out a rooms color scheme when the walls are neutral. The Magnolia style is a great example of this. Clean uncluttered style.

I always find it interesting how different we all are and what we are looking for in our retirement. I am 71 and sold my house last year and moved into an apartment. I have owned my own homes for the past 44 years so apartment living has been an adventure for me this past year. But I am loving it. I was tired of all the inside and outside maintenance of owning a house ... it's always something. Lowes and Home Depot got a lot of my $$ over the years. I am so loving that I don't have to worry about ANYTHING outside now and if anything inside needs attention, I just put in a maintenance request. I have so much more time to do the things I love and none of the headaches of homeownership. I do wish you good luck in your new adventure tho.

The lesson may be that each choice has the potential for delight and despair. Calling a plumber to make a needed repair is less difficult for me than being surrounded by people whose walls I am forced to share. Don’t get me wrong, I love people and I love interacting with them. Having the privacy of my own garden is worth taking care of the maintenance needs of mowing, pruning, weeding , watering. Wouldn’t it be odd if all of us wanted the same things in our living arrangements? Right now, as long as I am not forced to choose a nursing home in which to reside, I can probably be happy.

You know she's self taught and has learned by trial and error and collecting a library of garden books. She also loves learning from pro's and asking advice and questions. There is no reason why you can't do the same because you obviously have a love of gardening. I on the other hand end up killing every plant I get and that's probably because I don't have that same love as you guys. You never know who's watching and you may find that you'll get sponsors like Linda and may find you'll gain subscriber's as well. You may be able to finish that basement sooner than you think. I'm very happy for you! Based on how you turned your apartments into beautiful, cozy, warm & inviting spaces that reflect your energy & personality, I can only imagine how you will do the same with your own house and yard! I commented on another of your videos that 'bird feeding' really made my yard come alive with their sights and sounds. Perhaps you can add that to your garden. Enjoy this exciting time... and the fruits of your labor and manifestation of your dream. Thank you for sharing it with us.

It’s extraordinary to me that you can by a house for $165k!! In Melbourne australia where I live the average price of a 2 bedroom apartment is $470k Australian dollars which is $370k USD. A free standing house is much much more. I’m so happy for you that you live in a country with affordable housing. Congrats on your new home ❤

I live in Tampa, Fl and IF you find a home here for 167k, it would likely be a dump that requires a ton of work. I was amazed when she said her home was 167k…and it looked so nice!

@@patl.4170 It depends on the area for sure. I lived in Tampa Palms before I moved to the mountains. The prices in Tampa have gone way up since I moved in 2020, but the little house I bought up here was only $125,000, it did need some renovations but nothing major.

Home prices in the US have skyrocketed too, especially in and around bigger cities. Even the house that Susan bought would have cost around $100K just a few years ago. Considering where housing prices are going, she still got a bargain. I feel so bad for the many people around the world who have gotten squeezed out of the housing market. Rents are outrageous as well.

And my flower gardens are ever evolving - never staying the same year after year. May God grant you many joys and beauty and love in your new adventure.❤

This is such an exciting journey you are taking us on. You help me feel better about things as I’m the same age and feel that I’m too old to have a dream but I’m not and after my husband does pass it’s time for me to have a life
