    In the video today, we're looking at a rather remarkable dwarf who, despite standing only about 2 feet tall as an adult, rose from a simple commoner to a knight and Captain of the horse, among other exploits.

      problem is that one of the most distinct features of lord minimus was the fact tha he was his peculiar dwarfism, he was nearly perfectly proportional, what means he was pretty distinct from Peter Dinklage(although I do agree Peter is quite awesome indeed) , who has a more common type of dwarfism which leads limbs with different proportions than a regular person, resulting in a very inaccurate pic since has he looked like the typical person with dwarfism it would have been very unlikely for him to catch as much attention of such high nobility, since regular dwarfism was much more common.

    a dwarf growing by such an amount after the age of 25 seems suspect, makes me wonder if the returning slave was actually another who he met while a slave and learned of his story and the real one died sometime thereafter while still a slave.

      Since it could have been a pituitary issue or something along those lines, I think it could be possible, at least more so, than if it was many other types of genetic causes of dwarfism.
      With a change in environment, diet, etc. maybe something suppressed/supported something in his previously 'defective' system.
      It's still quite a growth, so I wouldn't be surprised if you were right, but I imagine there could be some possibilities. Maybe even an infectious illness of some kind could have played a role, either one remedied later in life, or one that he acquired later in life which impacted his system... 🤔

    • @geiroveeilertsen7112
      @geiroveeilertsen7112 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      As there is record of a man who was registered as both a dwarf and a giant in his life (I think you can find an episode about him here btw), it is a possibility he had issues with the pituitary gland, much like the aforementioned person, and could have grown a bit later in life.

      tl;dr - I think it was him.
      I had the same thought at first, but he returned to England and was given money by people who knew him directly. I have to assume that they would have noticed if it wasn't actually him lol. More than 25 years had passed at that point, so maybe they simply forgot what he looked like and accepted his claims, but ehh, idk..that's a hell of a gamble for an imposter to make, since he very easily could have been found out immediately and executed for impersonating someone that was well-known and high ranking.

      I mean, he went from sex-and-hard-labor slave to prisoner. Admittedly, thy fate still sucketh, but at least it sucks less. And after that he actually got to live two years as a free man, which is a huge step up from sex-and-hard-labor slave. And the court gave him some money which he might've gotten to keep. So I'd say he benefited from the ruse.

      it's so crazy how those royals felt like the people were just their playthings. even wars, i mean they were all related to each other, and the english king's queen was french. they traded family members all over, and then treated massive wars like gambling over games of chess, with inanimate pawns used to play the game. even today, the same thing is happening. we have a plutocrat class in the usa who uses us just the same - but the same can be said for most every country. things haven't changed much at all. they've just gotten better at being more subtle about it to reduce the occurance of revolutions. but not any less vicious, mind you.

    According to Nick Page's biography of Hudson, Hudson was never knighted or ever referred to as "Sir Jeffrey Hudson"; that was made up by Walter Scott for a novel he'd written that featured Hudson as a side character.
    Also, in Wright's account (which is the ONLY contemporary account of his life as a slave), Hudson attributed his growth to regular beatings, not to "b*****y." So, while he obviously still suffered in ways I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, he might have at least been spared that (and I really, really hope he was).
