  • This is a video I made for the lovely, touching song "Georgia Lee" off of the fantastic Tom Waits album "Mule Variations."
The footage was shot by me at the roadside memorial where the dead body of Georgia Moses, 12 years old, was found. There is also footage I shot at Weeping Rock within Zion National Park. The images were downloaded from Flickr and also the Sonoma County Sheriff Department's website.

She was my cousins neighbor In cotati. The time we spent together She was a strong girl with big responsibilities looking after her younger siblings as her mother we all thought was mentally ill and always screaming at the kids. I don't think a day of her life was an easy one. Just so sad, may she rest in peace for all eternity.

When he read this story in the news paper with his wife they didn't want this tragic event to go unrecognized. He wrote this in memory of this young girl. This is a true story.

I have seen many children die too early. And every time I listen to Tom’s song, my heart cries out with him. Where was God when they needed him ? We had CF in the family. I lost 3 siblings before they reached their mid-teens. I was raised in a Protestant church. The doctrine was that “ God is a loving God, who cares “ . I prayed in vain. Either God was deaf, or there wasn’t a God. The absurdity of existence was prominent. Like Sisyphus we push the rock to never reach the top of the mountain.
Acceptance of the beauty of life , despite the meaninglessness of life. ….

Here's the problem with this video. The song is about a young black girl. The god in question is us. It's not an indictment of God, it's an indictment of us. Why do we care so much about Jon Benet Ramsey, but no one has ever heard of Georgia Lee Moses? All the images of the girl in this video are of a white girl. I'm sorry, but you missed the point entirely.

It’s a bummer this video is done poorly because Waits was actually shining light on a girl who’s death didn’t get as much publicity as another little white girl who was killed in the same area.

Georgia's photo is at the end. Didn't you watch the whole thing? Its questions about life and death and innocence..why doesn't your god protect innocence? Its not about black and white. You missed the point entirely.

@@larryhudspeth4072 No Larry, it’s you whose missed the point entirely. If it wasn’t about Black and white why have I heard the name Polly Class a million times? Heard about her brutal murder on every channel that brings us the nightly news? but it took until today for me to hear about another little 12 year old girl that was brutally murdered and dumped just off the 101 freeway? Give Georgia the respect deserves and admit racism is the reason Polly Class is a household name, and Georgia Lee isn’t.

Juxtaposing the childhood (hide and seek) refrain of "Be sure to find me, I want you to find me" against the background of her body being found in a small grove of trees has to be the most powerful lyric ever written. I have only listened to this song a half dozen times since I first discovered it.

This is a beautiful and very sad song. Its poetry. I doubt that Tom intended this to be about race. So, why is all this negativity and racist crap here?

    • @Scientastica

It’s just a true story about Georgia Lee Moses, a12-year-old girl who was raped and found dead by the side of a road. Media never brought this story to light and her case is yet unresolved. It’s understandable why people bring race here because of how media made another similar death of a white girl into a national story, all lives are equally important.

Georgia Leah Moses. This song was written about her. She was 12 years old when she was murdered, and the police never solved the case. Her sister has a podcast: They Called Her Georgia Lee

I'm surprised this tragic and still unsolved story hasn't been covered by any true crime podcasts.
