    Great job! I understand why it saves time to drop the engine rather than bend over the engine compartment. My uncle was the parts manager for our local VW dealer. He explained how the engines worked and why everything had to be done correctly. He said that the mechanics would get in a hurry and leave something off. He said that there aren't shortcuts, but they had to work smart. My father and uncle were always repairing their cars. Watching you, all those conversations make sense. It's amazing that I still remember all this from the early 70's. LOL

    It's amazing how simple it is to pull an air cooled VW engine. The hardest thing is finding jack stands and a jack that goes high enough.

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that's one of the good things about the type 3, you don't have the jack up nearly as high! Thanks for the comment, Jay!

  • @craigmonteforte1478
    @craigmonteforte1478 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the Motorcycle jack is brilliant it just needs a upgrade on those wheels for adjusting position on that terrain i don’t know about type 3 but years ago on Vw type 1 motors a found Grovery Cart or Buggy with the basket part cut off left with a rolling frame and handle basically made a perfect engine install and storage cart the motors sat on those old carts perfectly and myself and my VW buddies used to build our garage workbenches. so we could store the engines out of the way under the bottom shelves one time my best freind was riding with me and saw a grocery cart on the Shoulder of a very busy Highway inMiami he made me detour to go back and retrieve it ! i had a Jeep at the time without any roof and he somehow managed to flip that thing into my back seat and tie it in for the ride that cart became a long time fused over who owned it and we often borrowed it for engine swaps in our Beetles i’ve worked on them but never owned a Square back or Fast back yet but i do hope to one day mostly because they are becoming so more rare over time I really like the Wagons now with that Surfer / California style thing i’m a retired Woodworker by trade and i’ve been thinking about applying real Wood Paneling on one would be cool FYI i’m also a Wooden guy enthusiast and i love that Premium Yacht finish that i think would be cool on a Wagon

    Hey, asking if a 411 flat engine will fit the Type 3 Fastback?

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! However, you'll need a 200mm flywheel to fit your clutch and pressure plate. After that it'll bolt straight in, but it'll be tight under the rear apron. Once it's in, you'll need to come up with a way to close your cooling fan, and attach it to the type 3 body with the original bellows. It'll run great after that! Good luck to you!

  • @jeffbayer1287

    Just a suggestion on the cheese head tin screws if you use a 3/8 screwdriver instead of 1/4 inch one you get a lot less damage to the screws and you can loosen them and take them a lot easier. Love the videos keep them coming

    After watching you use the lift, I went to Harbor Freight today and compared the two different ATV /Motorcycle lifts. Turns out they had the more expensive one in the “Open box” area. So the $179 version was marked down to $114. The manager said it was marked down two weeks ago. But then remembered that he forgot to re-scam it last week. He decided an even $100 was a good price, I agreed....

    • @DuckmanCycles
      @DuckmanCycles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should fit! I'm not sure what year your engine is, nor what year your transmission is. If you have some early/late combination you may have to hog out the bellbousing to fit the flywheel and make sure you're using the properly matched pressure plate and throwout bearing! More details please!

      That's quite funny when I get welders that have never use flux core before, or car guys that have never worked on a Volkswagen before.... sure they are experts in their own right but they have never touched this stuff so they make fun of me when things don't work the way they expect them to LOL! So even experts can be dummies. Then of course there's the rest of the TH-cam world that has never done anything, and their TH-cam channels usually reflect that with no videos and 0 subscribers LOL! Thanks so much for the comment!
