And he visits him almost every week even after their debut. I think it was his friend when he's still struggling and keep doing music and selling them without getting paid. His friend resorted to drugs and i think that's why he hated him. It was sad because Yoongi wished that his friend will change but he didn't.
So his friend became addicted to M*th. They once had the same dream but his friend got addicted. Suga go visit his friend every week riding 3 hour bus, 6 hour bus in total from going to there and getting home. This is why in many of suga/ agust d songs you can kind of see his kind of resentment deep resentment to people who do drugs like the song " daechwita" where he talk about the "pillpoppers" etc. His resentment comes from his experience of seeing his "friend" who is not his friend now destroyed himself.
i remember when this mixtape dropped and the quietness from the translators on Twitter once they got to this song. we could all tell ut was sad but we weren't prepared for how vulnerable yoongi was in this song. hes always been very honest and open and vulnerable but this felt like we were reading a diary it almost felt wrong that he told us it. it hit me in particular a different way as my dad suffers from addiction and to see some of my feelings validated for the first time it felt very comforting while also heartbreaking (my dad is in recovery right now but theres always a fear of relapse yoongi makes this easier for me to deal with). this is why it pains me when people call bts kpop idols because this kind of songs just dont exist in kpop there are very few artists who are this vulnerable in kpop and many of them are not really in the kpop industry they were either there briefly or they corssover between many korean industries and are basically independent this can be said for bts, iu, epik high, jessi and a few others. they all were or are considered idols depending on who you speak to but the quality and vulnerability and directness in their music is something typical idols dont and cant do since many dont write their music themselves. i wish outsiders could understand this because i doubt if bighit was like those other labels they wouldnt allow a song like dear my friend to be released. anyways loved your reaction as always 💜

I think this is one of Yoongi's most important pain since he also talks about it in "Spring Day" and during a conversation with Jin in "In The Soop 1", he talks about this difficult to overcome regret without quite naming it. He must certainly also feel guilty telling himself that he could certainly have done something to prevent him from taking this way especially that this friend seemed to be very important for him... But here we can say 100 times it's not your fault, we always feel a little guilty.
I respect Yoongi for his emotional honesty in the lyrics he writes. The pain he felt when he was writing, and probably still feels when the subject comes up, is so clear, and I've been there. It's so shocking when it happens, and it leaves such a hole filled with nothing but unanswered questions. I hope his pain heals, and I hope yours does, as well.
As someone who has lost family members to drugs and alcohol (some have died many have served time and ruined their lives) I am a tee toller who doesnt drink at all. I find all the emotions in this song hit me harder and deeper than anything else from the opening note I get it. His songs are so raw and beautiful full of love frustrations and anger in equal parts. This is equal parts love letter to a lost friend and warning. And it’s one helluva way to end an album.
