    You said it last. What we like to see is the power stations along the route. This would be the ultimate upgrade to Google Maps.

    In the UK and don't even see an option to prefer fuel efficient routes nevermind specify what engine type I have. Looks like it has some way to go before it competes with ABRP and zap-map so I will just wait.

    I would have been impressed if google released an efficient route from charger to charger for best efficient trip planning, then the comparison with a better routeplanner would be more interesting and worthwhile to compare. Then we would only need one app. Instead of now dealing with multiple apps for efficient route planing and driving and charging (more work less efficient).

  • @jvin248

    +1 Sam, the map needs to include charging stations along routes and nearby.

      For me, start directions for your destination, pull up on the menu bar at the bottom, select “search along route”, type in “charging stations”. Would be nice as a default option for sure though.

    ABRP (A Better Route Planner) already has charging station locations shown in the route, and you can even tell it what kind you prefer/have a membership with (Tesla SuperChargers, ChargePoint etc)

    I've been hoping for this for a long time. It's especially useful for me, because my plug-in hybrid has an official range of only 53 miles, and this will make it easier not to burn gasoline.

      My BEV has an unofficial freeway range close to that, so ditto

    There's a huge difference between _route planning_ and simple routing with charger locations along the way. ABRP is currently superior to Google Maps in that it takes your particular EV into account, along with your preferences, such as quickest arrival, then actually plans your route, *as well as* suggests a charging strategy.
    Since this video dropped a year ago, there's been zero progress shown by Google Maps to make the product more useful for true route planning.

    For me here in Melbourne Australia it appears that the 'Settings > Navigation settings' option is not there for me.
    There *IS* a 'Settings > Navigation > Route Options', but no 'Prefer fuel-efficient routes', or 'Engine type'.
    There is also an 'Electric Vehicle Settings' under 'Account Settings', but it only allows you to select what plug types your vehicle can handle.
    Anyone here in Melb got this working ?

    It’s odd they haven’t done this for ages, particularly when their Android automotive offerings are in Volvo and Polestar EV’s where they include quite good route planning including charging station and battery on arrival.
    Would be nice to have those functions on my phone or tablet to plan out a road trip, I guess it’s ABRP for now for that functionality.

  • @MrAalestrup
    @MrAalestrup 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It does not appear that the function is available in Denmark. Everything in Google is about fossil cars. If you can choose to see BEV chargers this far down the list, you only have a few brands with, for example, Tesla not included in the overview. Google is just so far behind on BEV. I love Google maps, but I hate that Google is so slow to follow up.

    I hope they also add a feature that tells me BEFORE I need to turn & pull into a driveway to turn around instead of going 2 mi out of my way to correct course.
    I'd like two efficiency level settings, a Max setting it takes surface streets & Min setting that avoids time saving backtracking, or less direct but faster freeways.

  • @jimreed5584
    @jimreed5584 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Google could work with Tesla. Google should add a feature for the customer to upload a file and mark pot holes, closed streets, other things. This could be for any customer, but Tesla FSD vehicles could start feeding this data to Tesla and they could build a combined file to distribute to the fleet. Following Musk's logic, these would all include an expire date. There would be multiple files for different geographic areas so you don't download updates for the whole country. Then when one vehicle sees a pot hole, others are warned. Google has only provided the interface, and is not responsible for data accuracy.

    • @loungelizard836
      @loungelizard836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Teslas could automatically record potholes (every time a car hits one, sensors detect the shock and every Tesla that "finds" the same hole confirms suspected pothole. That info would be relayed back to the Mother Ship, similar to the way Google detects delays, average speeds at various times of day.

  • @IAmAdrianHolland

    Still not as good as the Tesla navigation for trips. The ability to see all the charge locations on the route and the percentage of battery you will have when you get there is perfect. Google should just buy a better route planner and take all their ideas and roll them into Google maps. Tesla cars are already have good EV nav features but non-Tesla EVs need to know where the WORKING chargers are on the route.

Hopefully this means eventually CarPlay should know what kind of vehicle you are driving and have access to state of charge and average efficiency numbers, which could be used in navigation apps like Apple Maps, Google Maps, ABRP.

    At present it's not really good for a route planner. A Better Route Planner is better currently. But for short routes not needing charging stops it's good. But overall time is also important and I don't like having to go through cities. I generally hate stop and go traffic.

  • @greggrant4614
    @greggrant4614 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    A Better Route Planner (ABRP) used to be a very straightforward way to plan a route based on your specific EV model, as you could see all the possible chargers and set your minimum and maximum states of charge when charging, your max speed, many other variables, even weather conditions. Projected weather could even be added automatically. Without showing at least charger locations, the Goggle update is pretty useless.

      I just do a general search for EV chargers in the general area of the route, then specify the route and it offers up "EV Charging" along with options to show restaurants, hotels, things to do, etc... If you don't see EV charging, try the "More" button and search for EV charging in the "search along the route" box that appears on the left. Now that Google knows my interest in EV charging, it offers up charging with each route selection.
