Let me know if I should do a Part 2??

I'd love to know some tips to get enthusiastic about researching travel. I have a trip to Northern Europe in summer 25 and it's my first trip in many years without my travel agent organising everything for me. Apart from my regular things I like, trains and boats, and visiting great architecture, I am not one to spend hours researching every aspect, but I still like to have bookings made in advance. How do you recommend getting excited about the planning?
Please do a Part 2!!
Please do a Part 2. Many thanks for your excellent information from Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦
That'll be great! I have a trip to France to depart the coming weekend, and your Part 1 helps a lot!
This video is so awesome! Please do a Part 2. Thanks a lot!
Wow- I struggled plannning things with Google Maps - was unaware of Google My Maps. Would love a part 2.
Awesome! Thanks for watching ❤️
Definitely need a part 2! I really like the day layers you used. I think we'll be using this for our upcoming trip now.
If you could make a secondary tutorial to explain how to give a running, point to point, non-stop journey using google maps, that would be great!!
this please
Wow, I’ve watched countless videos on how to create a map and access it on my phone and could never figure it out, until now! Omg, you explained it so simple even I could do it. Thank you.🙏 I’m still working on figuring out how to view it on my phone where it’s easy to follow at my destination and doesn’t appear cluttered with so many other icons that I don’t want or need.
Thanks so much for watching ❤
One of the best travel videos out there. Please do more like these!
Awesome video! I was unaware of this powerful tool and plan to use it for an upcoming trip. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in an easy to follow and understandable format. Looking forward to Google My Maps Part 2 🤞
Thanks for this video. I'd heard of Google My Maps but wasn't really sure how to use it. This is so helpful. Thank you! And yes, a Part 2 would be awesome!
I use everything Google and never knew about this feature/tool. This is amazing! I would always have to use something else (another app, a list, etc.) but this is awesome that it will directly integrate with Google Maps once set up. Would love a part 2 to this! Thanks for the info!!
Very well done. I use My Maps extensively when planning long RV trips. Rather than using layers for each day I use them for categories of things. I have one for National Park units, another for places to camp/stay, another for hikes to do, etc. Also, there is a limit of 10 layers and that includes the driving direction layers. That can be limiting. I’ll look forward to part 2.
Thanks for watching!❤️
Interesting tutorial. Allows to look on a travel planning from a new angle.
I would definitely give it a try when I get a chance to travel again!
thanks for sharing these infos, appreciate it a lot
Super comprehensive guide. Really appreciate you taking time to show us. I am going to be using this to plan my trip now .
Anything else you can show us would be great.... would love another video showing in more depth how to use this planned maps once you're on you're trip. Can you plan an actual route and see it as a line??
Awesome, we will try to have another video with google My Maps out soon! Thanks for Watching❤️
I have been using it for my son’s climbing trips. When we go to a new city, I mark hotels, make notes to remember the amenities at each hotel and make all restaurants. I love the directions and measurements functionality. This has been a game changer!
It really is a game changer! Thanks for watching ❤️
Thanks for sharing the use of Google My Map
nice. very useful.. will try for next travel plan
At 10:15, how to connect pins on map to create walking tour. THANK YOU!!
Excelente vídeo, obrigado por compartilhar.
Thanks for watching ❤️
very useful, definitely do a part 2
Thanks for watching❤️
BRILLIANT! Please do a Part 2! I came across this video as I was seeking something about automatic route optimization (which apparently doesn't exist for us regular folks but is available as something delivery services pay for).
Can you make it so it ONLY shows the items you have chosen for your layer(s)?
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
amazing video! I used it as a follow-along tutorial to create a travel plan for Savannah!
That is great to hear! Thanks for watching ❤️
Great video that even I can follow (I'm definitely not tech savvy)! Your explanations are always clear and understandable in all your videos. Please do a part 2! ;)
I am glad it was easy to understand! Thanks for watching❤️
Yes please do a part 2!
Great tutorial. I am off to London this week...I am a baby boomer so my learning curve is behind yours but I know I can use all this info you provided!
Thank you !!! Going to try this for my trip to Japan !!
I would highly recommend it! Thanks for watching our video❤️
I did it my trip to Japan last year. Worked like a charm. Plus used Wanderlog.
Very helpful. Liked & subscribed :)
thanks for watching and subscribing!
Great video!
YES! PLEASE DO A PART 2!!!!
Fantastic instructions, at last someone has explained Google My Maps and how to use it.
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching! ❤️
I think it is intentional that they made using MyMaps so painful
My Maps has for sure become my favourite tool for planning travel. I recommend to anyone and everyone I get the chance to. This was a great video. Part 2 please!
Thanks for watching❤️
Awesome, never heard of the tool, which makes me look like a fool :P But, I believe we can always learn from others. For sure it makes traveling a lot easier, thanks for the video. By the way, I've been following your YT growth for some time now, really great channel, you have a bright future, for sure.
Thanks you so much for watching and the kind words!❤️
Yes, part 2 please!
Thanks for watching❤️
From a fellow My Maps aficionado, great tutorial! I organize my layers by lodging and activities, but I like the idea of doing it by travel day.
Well done!
Thanks for sharing and watching our video❤️
Great video-I love detailed trip planning. Which features of this, if any, are available when there is no cell service?
Question! Is it possible to add additional pins to the map on my iPhone while traveling? I don’t have laptop with me where I originally created the map. Thanks!
Love the concept. However I have not found a way to make a route useable. Meaning once a route is create in “my maps” it does not have turn by turn directions to allow for navigation. Love your overview. Many thanks
I need to know how it looks and how it works in a mobile device the adding directions feature.
Great video! Can I use my maps on downloaded maps for off-line use when overseas?
I love using my maps even though there a few limitations. For example, you can only have 14 layers and when you use the 14 layers, Google maps does not want to show it on my laptop, only on my phone. Thanks for the nice video!
yes
That was extremely helpful...thank you! I was simply adding points to google maps and then saving them off, but the app is limited to only 8 points of interest. My Maps alleviates that restriction. Cheers! 🙂
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching
informative
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching❤️
I created the Google My Map, I can retrieve it on my mobile device (Google Maps), however can’t figure out (or if I can) make the route an active guidance tool. I keep having to drop a pin at my next point and navigate to it - keeping my head down along the way.
But can you use your newly created and saved map as your voice instructed sat nav in your car. If not it's just like drawing a line on a paper map? My only use for this would be to stop google maps sending me down narrow dangerous roads as presently there is no way to stop google maps doing that.
Part 2 would be great. I already use this feature a bit, but would love to know other tips. Is there a way when you on your phone that you can deselect or select layers so that you are only looking at 1 Days itinerary?
Yes you should be able to do that! If you look at the bottom of your map there should be an icon labeled "view map legend". Click and that and you can deselect or select layers! Hope this helps, and thanks for watching ❤️
@thetravelcoaches amazing. Not sure how I missed that one. Great!!
This video is very helpful Ian!!! Following it I made 2 layers for each day, one for interested points, another for walking directions. I'm wondering if there is a way to only pull out layer(s) as I want, so it will look cleaner and more meaningful? Right now Neither on my desktop Nor on my mobile phone I'm unable, so different day's route mingled together. Maybe I missed something? Thank you very much!
Never mind I found it. Still didn't see how to use it on iPhone as a "Step to step direction". Appreciate it if you could comment...
Really the only thing you can do on the mobile device is toggle the layers on and off to change your view. if you refer to 18:24 in the video you can see all your layers. If you don't want to see a layer just click the blue check. Not sure if this answers your question, but I am hoping to make a part 2 of this video. thanks for watching ❤
This is what i need to work out school bus routing, I'm very new and they don't have nav on bus yet.
Can't look at gps but my assistant could
Hi, after creating my direction layer walking tour, can I actually navigate live on my phone ? How
Hi there, great video, I appreciate the effort, I have one question, I cannot get the interest points I create on my desktop and bring to my phone, to stay with the off-line maps saved on my phone after the internet is turned off. Is it normal or am I missing something. They are being downloaded back to my off-line maps once I turn the internet on again. Thanks again for this clear tutorial.
Have there been any updates or improvements in My Maps in the past couple of years? I last used it a few years ago.
Thanks for the info! But...how do I get the route to "start"? I see the directions on my saved maps, but I can't find a way to start the directions.
I'd like a part 2 please. Can you see and use the maps offline?
Hi, thanks for a really great video, I've learnt a lot. But can you help me with something. I would like to use a map to plot a walk I am doing. I wantto walk 20KM's a day and would like to plot each day manually using "My Map" Do you know if this is possible as I can't see a way to do this. Thank you in advance, Gav
I have created a walking my map and found it in Google maps but how to I get point by point directions? Point A to point B and so on?
Is it possible to import the stars, hearts & other places I saved on Google Maps? Otherwise it sounds like restarting from scratch. I gots hundreds of saved items...
Thanks but how do you hide layers when using it on Android phone? Let's say I only want to see my restaurants layer but not my museums and sites layers?
How do I use custom colors for the places I've added to my maps? The limited color palette is not enough.
Can I download my google map to my phone off line, so I can use with my offline map (just incase my phone lost signal, I can not access on line my google map)?
What happens when your travelling and want to save a place, but don’t gave a laptop with you? I guess it’s ok for pre planning, but not so much when you plan on the go, last minute.
Yes right not this is by far a better tool for pre planning! Hopefully that changes at some point soon. Thanks for watching ❤️
ok, How do I actually use the map I made? Its in my phone but I cant "start" it anyway.
how do I find other people maps that they made like how can I find the map you made
Unfortunately you can't see other peoples map unless they share them with your google account personally. Thanks for watching❤️
I can tell straight away that he was showing Dublin in thumbnail
No - there is no way to use the saved map as voice instructed sat nav so not much use to me.
Hi, thank you for creating this! Would you be interested in collaborating on the development of a mobile app that allows you to access and create interactive maps to share with others? The app lets you invite friends to participate in the map creation process and allows you to interact with friends within the map itself. The app is almost ready, but would you like to try it before we launch? If so, with your feedback we could fine tune it to create something that you and your fans would love.
Don’t think this will work for me as a full time, minimalist traveler, I don’t use a laptop, or desktop. I’m mobile only. Would be nice if there was a mobile app.
Once you have to move over to a desktop, just to color a pin, hmmmm not for me.
Try Wanderlog. I use it for my travels but haven’t synced it to Google My Maps yet (because it is a premium feature) but may on my next trip.
On my Android phone there is no SAVED icon at the bottom. Just the other ones. So I guess this is useless to me when travelling.
i am sorry to hear that, I will do some research to see if there is a solve to that problem!
@@thetravelcoaches As we are travelling by train to each location in Scotland I just needed the picture of each accommodation and the route from the train station to the accommodation. I did that for each town and took a series of screenshots. I then uploaded them into Google Drive into a specific folder. I will just go to the location's screenshot in each town when we arrive. Because we are walking with backpacks, most accommodations I have chosen are about 8 minutes walk from the station (we are 73 & 77).
for me its not working... all the picutres/informations etc is not shpwing up...😑
Very nicely explained for the basics, good job.
Suggestions for part two:
1 fill in detailed descriptions of places by copy/paste from existing sources like websites, wiki, e-books, etc. That space can hold a lot of text.
2 many times when you enter a destination, the website for that place is automatically included, clickable. If not, you can add them manually, copy/paste
3 more explanation of how to follow the dot while walking, and deviating from the route at will
4 better to use an iPad in the field, easier to read the map, so get an iPad with cellular, then purchase local sim card for one month service. Thus, it helps to have a shoulder bag with easy access to the iPad, so that you can easily pull it out and put away.
5 add lots of restaurants
6 explain how to find other people's maps, of those who share
7 share your maps, and you can embed them in your website, as I have done here townsofeurope.com/ with maps you can also have
8 map data from one map can be imported into another map: Find good map from others, who are sharing, that has useful info; Click 3 dots then choose Export as KML instead of KMZ and download kml file; Open new map; Click import in a fresh layer; Drag kml file to that layer
9 emphasize the empowerment you get from arriving in a strange town with a fully-loaded map, showing where you are and where to go
