Wonderful photography...another area for us to hit someday. Thanks for sharing it. This episode re-reminded me about reliance on heaters and other items of "comfort technology" that we come to rely on especially for winter camping. So easy to thin your gear to fit the comfort range provided by your vehicle...it's all great...until something fails or breaks. Nothing worse than a cold night in a light bag with a failed heater thinking about the nice puffy down sleeping bag you left at home!
The only problem with Bend, OR (aside from cost of living) is that it is getting loved to death in the summer. Finding a parking place at trailheads and especially campgrounds is a real challenge. However, it is still a terrific place to live and play
A shame some are subbing out, so the the format has changed, nothing stays the same for ever. Now we have two cool vehicles, the amazing JK and the 4 wheel drive Winnebago. I’m amazed at where that orange Jeep has taken us all this past 4 years! Thank you Jeep for building the Rubicon and Ursa Minor for a wonderful integrated design. I’ve only got as far has the Colman stove, but my hopes are high on getting the rest. Until then, I look forward to my weekly fix with venture4wd.
Is his sub count dropping? That’s crazy, of all the over landing channels Chris’ is the best. We need to get him over 100k subs, then I think he’d take off from there.
What I like about you Chris is that you don’t have much as far as overlanding gear, I mean that stove you have is like 5 years or older. Compared to the typical overlander who tries to get all the lights and gear out there, yours is simple and doable. Thank you
Another great video! Really enjoy following your adventures. Three more years until retirement, hope to catch you on the road one day. Thanks for your inspiration.
Central Oregon is just spectacular. I guess large burn areas are going to be a feature of the western states from now on, with fire season getting longer and hotter each year. October is a great time to be exploring, with abundant solitude. These videos are works of art (and I enjoy the omission of music) - Thanks.
Nice video Chris, I’m glad you found the yellow tops just in time. The same auto parts place bailed me out with an alternator and belt and let me do the repair in there parking lot. My wife and I will be out in Oregon in June. Can’t wait to see more of what you find there. God bless.
After dealing with hurricane Ida here in south Louisiana, it’s nice to have my weekends off again (electric utility worker) and watching your videos while sipping a hot cup of coffee. It was a blistery 52° down here this morning.😂 I always enjoy your videos and the time and effort you put forth in sharing them. Safe travels.
A great way to spend a Saturday evening, you, me out in nature. Only thing missing is a drink and a camp 🔥. Your friend in Pennsylvania. Bob thanks Chris.
You need the red arc BCD’s 1225 battery charger it will assist your alternator in charging the batteries plus your solar panel plugs into it so it manages your battery charging with both solar and the redarc BCDC. I have this system on my Jeep and it’s worked perfectly but before that I had plenty of problems with my batteries because the stand alone alternator will not sufficiently charge 2 of these agm batteries by itself something genisis doesn’t tell you.
Those AGM batteries you have to periodically maintenance charge them. Your alternator is not going to be able to charge them appropriately which causes them to die early.
@@marcelloorsini337 that may be but as he does not have a diesel engine, moot point. He had mentioned (I think) that they can adjust the heater to not cause carbon at higher elevations, but it then would not run well at lower elevations.
Yay 🤗 good old Oreilly to the rescue! I work for Oreilly here in Texas! 😁 I like your video’s and your content you put out! Thank you for bringing me along for the ride! Can’t wait to see your next video this is Big Boy Frank from Texas Peace out ✌️ and safe travels!
Your rimrock critter was probably the “famous” Central Oregon pack rat, Chris. I lived in that area for years and they are a real pest. Can cause serious damage to engine wiring as well as anything else they can chew up. Wise to move as they are relentless!
The local Toyota dealer told me that spraying your front tires/wheel wells with Pinesol is a really good deterrent to rodents getting into your engine compartment and interior. They normally will get up on top of the front tires to gain entry...A decent spray every couple of months.
Drake park! I grew up in Central Oregon. I miss it but, glad I moved though. Bend Truck toys is always a good place to go if your Jeep needs love next time you're there.
Really liked the video, have friends in Eugene and took a trip to Sisters which is a great little town with a great little whiskey shop too. Have lots of fun exploring!
you were in my tromping grounds there. I camp quite a bit up there in the winter just for the reason you said. No one else much goes up there :) I like camping on whycus creek there but would like to find more out of the way places. Where you were up high I need to explore more.
Another wonderful episode, sir. Oregon does indeed have varied physical geography and environments. Looking forward to next week's episode already and, again, thank God you are out of AZ and CO. Travel safe, sir.
Haha, finally! 😄 300 comments about Coyote Works and Primal Outdoors. 😭 And Chris has actually appeared on my channel. Of course I was babbling like a silly fanboy, but still. 😄
@@Jtwizzle No worries! It was within my very recent Expo vlog, which understandably not everyone would want to watch. I generally skip most people's Expo videos myself, heh. But I actually ran into Chris at a coffeeshop in Flagstaff before Expo. I won't put a link here since TH-cam may treat it as spam, but it's about 5 videos back on my channel. :-)
I love when you film in Oregon I explored it for the first time earlier this year because of your vids & I can’t wait to go back I may spend my Christmas there

I bought an optima yellow top batt and it cost me almost 300.00 and have had nothing but problems with it. I even returned it and got a second new one and still constantly goes dead for no reason.
Yeah they’re totally overrated in my opinion. I’ve had more than a few of the different colour optima batteries over the years and was never very impressed with any of them.
A lot of modern automotive wiring has eco friendly insulation now that is soy based and rodents really like that! Peppermint oil, a few drops in a spray bottle and then spritz everything you can get at keeps them at bay. Second tip, a clean engine and engine bay allows your engine to run cooler, always a good thing. Use your air to blow everything you can then just hose everything down with tire foam. Probably take you a couple or three applications.
Fika Sisters Coffee in Sisters if you are still in the area. Your work seems to get increasingly beautiful. I’m adjusting to the new Chris. Glad you have found balance and still get your pizza. :)
There are a couple of youtubers in Oregon that I watch primal outdoors & Coyote works they love to explore and do the same kind of things you do. They are always in the back country you should get with them and explore oregon....
Chris got to use his Wabasco heater - yay !! Any chance they’ve improved their product for higher elevations ? ( or maybe we have no buisness being that far up in snowy weather ?)
Casey from coyote works lives in that area, maybe you guys could meet up? Also a big Jeep fan (his Rubicon) caught fire in the desert and burned totally to the ground.....☹️
Nice Chris!! My cousin just moved to Bend from MD. She always vacationed there and loved the cooler temps and high desert dryness. Thanks for the scenic tour and sharing the outdoors w us! Hi to Shannon. 🥾🥾💕🥾🥾
Hi Chris - You are an inspiration for solo-exploring. I do have a question: with what you carry, are you over the payload of the Jeep? If so, do you know how much, and have you done anything to address this? thanks for sharing your wonderful journeys in such a soothing and inspiring way 🙏🏼
Hey bud, I noticed u have a different license plate. When did u switch to Texas plates, as I thought you always had Pennsylvania plates... On a more serious note, I love your channel, and the content you provide us, the viewer. I speak for all, we are entertained and feel like we are along for the ride with you... come back up to the Okanagan Valley in Canada as I want to meet you in person...
You might want to look into getting better sleeping bags if you are doubling them up, and you still need to wear that much clothing. I have a single bag that allows me to wear shorts and a t-shirt in below zero temperatures.
Coyote Works and Primal Outdoors 4X4 channels are in the Bend, OR. area. Good video. 👍🏻😎

He's traveling in a MERCEDES for crying outloud!!
Chris's weekly mantra - "I have pizza on my mind....."
🤣 right?
Three slices!!! Wowza
When you put new batteries in clean the post even when they look clean the dull look is actually the reason for batteries to go bad before their time.

Hearty +1 for camping around Sisters, I spent last weekend out there, a little to the north of the area you were in.

Green, even in the late fall, beautiful
Welcome to Bend! I would have been so psyched to see Orangey around town.
Such beautiful country. Wonderful content as always. Thank you Chris!

You might be better off having the heater set to run at higher elevations, where it's colder and where you need it more often.

Can you adjust the fuel ratio to burn better at higher elevations? It seems silly that you can't use it where it is needed.
Beautiful scenery.

Should of gave a shoutout to Casey coyote works he has some really cool spots around there an is a awesome guy ,,,, as always be safe 👍👍👍👍

Btw..you saw that truck go by and thought..."WAIT WAS THAT MAV?!" LOL
Welcome back to Oregon!
Always connect the battery ground last. Positive first Negative last. Why? Negative should not cause sparks.
For heat,try an electric blanket
Love adventuring the deschutes national forest, Bend has the best Boneyard IPA my favorite

Look up Casey with Coyote Works and Jason with Primal Outdoors. I believe both live somewhat near by. Awesome episode. Safe travels
So beautiful out there! Keep on truckin 😃
I love watching your channel Chris! Especially when the season change! It lets me know cooler air is coming my way to Alabama! Enjoyed as always!

Outstanding as always! Nobody makes a decent heater that works about 5,000 ft?
Wild to think I couldn't use the gas heater even at home. 5000 feet feels awfully low
Welcome to Bend!
Those images!! 15:35, 17:56..The Three Sisters look astounding! Question: how do you mitigate trash smell in the wild? Thanks for sharing!

I have heard leaving your hood open while sleeping will prevent critters for going into the engine bay and nibbling on wires. May be myth, not sure
Chris when you were in Bend I hoped you looked up Casey with “Coyote Works”. He is another TH-camr and lives in Bend.
Great video really enjoyed it
