This was literally the absolute best color tutorial I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve been a hairstylist for over 13 years and haven’t had anyone to ever explain color like this.

Thank you so much for subscribing. I really do put so much into each video hoping to fill in the gaps on the info lost in school. Please share and continue watching!
FANTASTIC!!! Love this video and this instructor AGREES with you completely! I preach "The only thing that is permanent about permanent haircolor is...it permanently changes your natural hair color, no more no less." Thank you for the great videos!
I studied Cosmetology and graduated in 2013 and i have been working in a salon ever since until this pandemic turn the world upside down and i lost interest in hair because i am scared to do it! I am committed to my self that i want to come back stronger and more knowledgeable then ever! I found your videos to refresh i little bit and i love the way you explain.. Thanks so mucho for sharing everything you know! 🙏🏼💖 I hope you can share more videos like this!
I am so glad you liked what I have out there so far. I just released a quick video and base placement and am working on more. Stay tuned and share with your friends! :)
I'm not a student, not at 69 years old, but a color customer interested in the process. I loved this instruction and it is giving me as a client insight into what results I might be able to have with my hair. Will be looking at more of your classes. Very well done.
Hurray!! Having watched your video several times over a couple of months has finally paid off!! I've finally grasped colour-formulation... now to find the guinea pigs to gain experience of hair colouring 😊😊 Thank you so much!!
I'm a Barber, "I'm never going to do hair color." That was me! Guess what? I'll be doing hair color soon, and videos like yours have really helped, thanks! So I'll be watching if you make more! Looking forward to vid about filling hair, and coloring pigmented hair vs natural hair! M
This was such an amazing lesson. I finally understand how to choose colors. I Can’t wait for the lightening one to tie it all together !!! That would be epic!
I am a cosmetology student of 2 months and this information was NOT given to me at all. I am about to go on the floor in a few days and I was terrified up until now. I have a much better understanding and I even rewatched some scenes 2-3 times to comprehend. I loved your method of teaching and keeping it fun and positive. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Please share with anyone you think it could help! We really hope to offer a resource that isn't easily found online as of right now!
This is very informative. I'm intrigued by hair color. I've coloured my hair with permanent color excessively in the past. And the reason was coz I couldn't achieve the color I wanted. (Unfortunately that led to me damaging my hair 😪) That led me to read up more and try to understand how hair color works. Thank you for this 👌🏾
Thank you so much. An I am so sorry it took so long to respond! You Tube doesn't always tell me there is a comment here and I am legit TERRIBLE at remembering to log in and see whats going on! Someday I'll master this social media stuff!
This video is awesome! You are an awesome educator! I have avoided hair color for years because I didn't know the theory behind it. You make it easy to understand. Thank you 💫
I appreciate your explanation so much. I’ve been trying to understand this concept and it just hasn’t been clicking and the way you teach I’m finally getting somewhere with understanding this.
you are amazing i really understood the way you explained i will use your technique for presoftening grey resistant hair thankyou so much i have a question does 30 vol cover grey hair ?
Thank you so much. I'm glad you find them helpful. 30 Volume can cover grey hair. It all depends on the stubbornness of the cuticle layer. Coverage comes from the amount of pigment in the color tube, combined with the integrity of the hair. While we typically choose a 20 for grey, it is not always the right choice! Sometimes we need a little extra push to open the cuticle, which would require a 30.
Wow! Thank you so much! Feel free to share our page and videos with anyone you know that may find them helpful! We are really trying to establish ourselves as the go to resource for cosmo students that need a little extra!
Your lesson was fantastic! FYI though, it's complementary not complimentary! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your skills and knowledge with the public 👏🏻
High Lift Color with Double Quantities of 30 or 40 Volume Developer works well with Levels 7, 6, 5, 4. Darker shades should be Pre Lifted with a Mild Bleach.
I am a cosmetology student and i find these videos very educative and interesting. I have a question though, how do you go from level 10 to level 3 in three steps. could you detail the steps please?. Could you explain the undertones and how to cancel them? thank you very much
I am a hair dresser, but nowhere as near as 20 years experience. So when ever I have a client with a level 5 I usually wouldn't use hair color because I feel it will just end up too orange, no matter how much neutralizing tone I use in my hair color formula. But if I were too I would use a complete blue based because I feel the warmth will be so strong when lightening with just color especially when using 30 vol. But please let me know, it could be the color line I am using, thank you
It all depends on the texture of the hair. If you have someone with fine hair, you can likely use haircolor and you will be just fine. However, if someone has course hair, that means their cuticle is tight! You may need the stronger ammonia levels of bleach to lift that cuticle up. Remember, every head is different. Sometimes color works. Sometimes it doesn't. When we look at developer levels, it is always "Up to" a level. The up to depends on the texture of hair and how much melanin is present.
Hi there. I've honestly used both. Pivot point is more student and teacher friendly, really aiming to train a student for success. However Milady tends to be the go to book for state exams, so it can be easier to prepare students for the written test. The reality is Pivot Point more than prepares them but it does require the teacher to truly understand the materials to ensure they are presenting state board language.
Hi Theresa, thank you so much for this education! I’m currently in cosmetology school so all of this is very new to me. I wanted to ask you about fillers. Is this permanent hair color or demi permanent or something else? I did a repigment recently and added red for level 3 with Demi permanent and then added permanent on top of this. Wasn’t sure why a Demi was chosen by my teachers because wouldn’t the undertone wash out? Thank you!
Hi there! Thank you so much for reaching out. So, fillers are almost always demi-permanent colors. Demi-permanent color will actually last LONGER than permanent because it is not blasting open the cuticle layer. Permanent color is not permanent. It just permanently alters the inside of the hair. That alteration does damage to the cuticle layer. Once the cuticle is damaged, the color washes out much more quickly. I have another video on this playlist all about filling. Check it out and share with your classmates! Never hesitate to reach out with questions. :)
@The Intentional Classroom LLC I just finished! Right at the end, you said to ask for help and that we could connect outside of the comment section? Is there an email address I can reach you by?
HI there. So sorry for the delay. I moved, got married, travelled for work, and got Covid! What an exciting 3 months. If you still need my assistance, go ahead and email me at theresa@cosmetologyexamreview.com. :)
That is a great question. Hair color should not create any water resistant layer. It in fact, makes hair more absorbent, as it opens up the cuticle, allowing water and other solutions to penetrate more easily.
Hair color never ends 😂 teachers must stay up to date bc students have the must unexpected questions. And they’d better have the knowledge to give their students a satisfactory answer.
Since drama school in high school i've been told I talk too fast! I am always conscious of it and always trying to slow down! Lol. I just get so excited!!!

Hello! What textbook do you use in your Theory classroom/Salon lab? I am in Ohio & use Milady, but thinking of switching to Pivot Point- thoughts??
