    Omg Brittney you are a badass hair guru. Color theory is HARD! And many people take this info for granted. There’s a reason why Hairstylists receive so much training before they do clients’ hair. Love your vid! So well explained!! Hugs

    Thank You Brittney for this video. As stylists, we don't always know that our true experience develops after the formal education we receive as students. But more importantly, understanding that we will be lifelong students,so be patient and kind to yourselves in this profession and learn ,learn ,learn as much as you can. Do not hesitate to get more knowledge. We didn't have as many people teaching this information from a place of true passion as we do now. Thanks for sharing yours with us Brittney. Awesome,Loved it!

    YOU are SO RIGHT! I learned all this years ago. I had naturally brown hair but I did not like that it had heavy red pigmentation in it. So. I went from salon to salon asking them to take that red out. They said they only way to do it was bleach it because it was heavily pigmented in there. I said DO IT! They bleached it and OH! I was almost in tears. They tried to tell me that, that was not the way to go but I was stubborn. They looked at me sympathetically and said okay. Here's what we can do. We'll have to add a color to your hair since all the color it stripped out. They added light brown. They said, now, let it grow out and cut it. The only way to get rid of the natural red pigmentation is to just color treat with ASH brown. This way it won't be too far from your natural color and tone down the red a lot. I did that and it worked nicely. I learned that whatever color your hair is naturally, that is what you have to work with. Stripping the hair just to add color, I believe is not the best thing. My hair was destroyed. Now, I don't color treat at all. I'm an 11 year Wen girl and love my hair now. It began to turn platinum early in life and I hated that worse than the red pigment I had! I think God said, "Oh, let Me see....you don't like the color hair I gave you, well, I'll fix that. I'll remove it." Now, my hair is platinum with some last vestiges of brown but the brown is not exactly brown. It's not grey either, just dark platinum underneath light platinum. I'm SO sorry that I didn't like my natural color. I'd love to have it now. God does employ poetic justice. Since Wen is wonderful for my hair and body I'm not too upset about the color. It makes my hair so soft and it has a deep luster and body and such movement. Fun to use too. A decent amount of wonderful scents that have amino acids and peptides, vitamin K and arnica. My hair has not been so amazing since I was in my teens. Anyway, that's another story. What you're saying is true though. It really depends on not so much your hair color as the "pigmentation" it has. I could not completely remove that red I had back then. I know red is a very popular color now but in those days it wasn't. Oh well! You're so pretty. You don't need to do a video. Just your picture is enough! XO

Any tips for toning blonde hair (lvl 7-8) at home into warm shades like gold rose would be greatly appreciated!! :) There's a lot of info on neutralizing warm tones but there's almost no info on enhancing them.. and not all of us want to be cool ashy blondes... Oh my goodness. That makes so much more sense now. I have black hair with yellowish-orange (copper) ends, and I wanted to put purple on the ends so I used this sample color toner from a hair store, but it just turned it brown. I LOVE this video!!! This is so interesting! A question, though -- when you say, for example, you add "blue to the formula" (to offset red underlying pigment), what are you doing exactly and in what step? Ie, do you mean in a separate step after bleaching the hair? Or at the same time? And what is the "blue" item that you mean? I'll watch this multiple times, for sure. I appreciate your including examples and repeat basic details in the examples, so we can learn it. You're awesome!!!

    So glad you did a video on this and youre an ACTUAL TRAINED stylist that knows what they're talking about lol
    I worked at a Beauty Supply Store called Ricky's NYC and they trained us on hair product/ingredients and hair dye and they were getting into Underlying pigment I get what you mean. I just feel like I could never ever bleach my hair at home and I've been growing my hair for 6 years so I know my hair, kinda not really even lmfao so yeah if I were to ever get color I would do my research, find a stylist I trust and have seen their work lol
    Glad you're doing a color series Its cool to be a online hair guru but it's even better when you're an actual stylist that can give real information lol people come on youtube and don't really know what they're doing or what they're talking about. I just want to learn! The right way lol!

    You have been the most helpful person in the Internet so far for me!!! I have damaged my hair pretty badly as a teenager and after 5 years of almost peace I ended up with my natural curly hair and liveless dark drown. I thought that after all this time I would know what color to choose and I went for a 4N with preference, it was very close to my color and maybe even darker so I decided a month later to use the 6N Same brand. I like it but with the summer starting it showed reddish tones that I did not like. yesterday I use a 4.5N because this is all there was at CVS and now I just feel like a plastic bag, no sexyness, no beauty just a plain plastic bag hanging around, my hair turned out red at the roots and very dark half way through the end. I do not know what to do anymore 😭 if I understand your video well I should go for a cooler tone brown to fix it right?

    I like the video but the only problem is you said complimentary colors are across from each other. Thats actually nuetralizing or canceling out. Complimentary colors are colors next to each other that compliment. Also underpigments 1 and 2 arent red one is actually blue we never see it.. level 5 under pigment is red. 6 is red orange so youd use blue green to nuetralize. And level 7 under pigment is orange. 9 is yellow pale yellows level 10. I didnt do them all but its important because like you said you wanna cancel something out you gotta use exact opposite of underlying pigment. And the color wheel youre missing the tiertiary colors.

    • @clilkayc03
      @clilkayc03 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brett Ryan No, Brittany is right. Complimentary colors are opposite of each other on the color wheel. Complimentary colors do neutralize or cancel each other out. Colors that are next to each other on the wheel are called analogous color schemes.

    i spent nearly two years going from natural deep copper to platinum blond was so much hard work like if you want to go this colour you need to be dedicated to and i dont hear a lot off hairdressers covering the work that needs to go into it and also sometimes the pain as ur scalp gets so sensitive to the bleach it can burn not drastically but uncomfy but i got there in the end and then my hairdresser who was the best hairdresser ive been to and was with her for years ended up moving abroad so i had to start the search again and i just couldnt find one near me and in that time my routs were coming back and all the hard work was coming undone so i ended up just going to the first one i could get bad idea my hair was yellow and my routs orange and hair was thinned out to an inch of its life and i had to wait months before a hairdresser would take me it was that damaged so i got fed up and did it my self but i died it a reddish dark brown bad mistake i miss my blond but aint going through all that again so im trying to find a colour that dont make me look ill or dead any help would be much appreciated

    I never rknow what my undertone is. My face is pink and always flushed but the skin on my body is nearly greenish. I'm very pale. I feel like my blonde hair looks brassy on me but when I tone it with purple I look washed out and dead

      Tímea Tarjányi if you put red up to your face, does it make your skin look more red/flushed or does it kind of make you look pale? If it makes you look more red you have warm undertones (like I do) and if not then you have cool undertones. I can be okay with burgundy red, but those are warmer than the bright red.

      You could be neutral

      Girlfriend you are a fair olive. I am too! You also likely have sensitive skin if your face is red a lot. If recommend a sensitive skin care regimine and a green toner. It will help with that lovely Christmas inspired complexion we sometimes get. ;) the fair olive complexion is usually eastern European and is very uncommon. Do you notice your natural hair is maybe ashy? That's another indicator (but not needed to be olive). Also, olive is neutral usually but has a tendency to lean cool without a tan and warm with one. I hope all that helps!

      looks like you have olive skin. Keep in mind that olive is not a color, it is an undertone just like yellow and pink so yes, it can range from deep to pale (like model Nastya Kusakina for example)

Thank you because I’m always trying to find a color and I am neutral undertones-my Hair is always looked good blonde ashy color but warm browns if it’s cool brown I look dead.... anyways if you have any suggestions let me know I’d love your insight for this....
