So what’s the real distance from handheld to handheld how far away can you get from each other with it and how about in a 10 story building will work inside the building from downstairs to 10th floor?
Hi, it would really depend on the construction of the building and any local RF interference within the building, but it should be fine. As for distance, that really depends on the terrain. In open air and line of sight I'd imagine about 5 miles on VHF.
Hi. To be honest on GMRS frequencies it really doesn't matter. I personally still prefer the menu layout of the Egzumer firmware, but it's down to personal preference. Thanks for watching 👍

The harmonics issue is only a problem if you try and transmit out of the frequency range that the radio is originally designed for. So basically it's fine for VHF over 137Mhz & UHF upto 470Mhz. Just don't try and TX on CB (27Mhz) 6m & 4m Ham bands etc... Thanks for watching 👍
I did try it but it bricked both of the radios when I tried to flash it, so flashed them both back. I'll have to experiment more and maybe that's for a future video. Thanks for watching.
Anyone have the uv-k5 (99)? According to Amazon it is the most recent version of the UV-K5 series radio with only cosmetic differences. Can anyone verify this? Can it be modded?
I tried to get some on Amazon and EBay (USA sales) and they took so long I canceled them. I ordered straight from china from a reputable dealer and got it quickly!!! Amazon doesn’t even sell the latest one (with blue screen)
I did the same, prefer the blue screen. I have just bought a plus version (£7 ion Ali exp) just for the larger battery and intend to swap the internal board over so I get the blue screen on my 5(8). I know it has no USBC for charging, but that’s fine I rarely use that anyway. 😊
You are 100% correct. It's fine for receiving but definitely should not be used for transmitting out of the frequencies It's designed for. Thanks for watching 👍
That may be a bit far fetched, however the interference WILL be caused within the airband frequencies causing disruption and difficulties with voice communication and navigation aids on board. Don't forget, aircraft and A/G stations use minimal power to communicate (about 1w) so a few Watts out of a handheld on the wrong frequency could cause serious issues. I've done another video highlighting this if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/BE2Y7V2tGMM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NH9sw5cqFYET9_yL
Interference! The harmonics are so so LOW and the transmitters from Air Control and the Cockpit are far more powerful to override any interference... @@m7frs272

Glad you enjoyed this video. Please see my other videos featuring the UV-K5 on my channel for more information.
@@m7frs272 thankyou so much
For me it's a case of trying to find any firmware that will flash it. 99% of them refuse to acknowledge my USB ports.
Have you tried a different USB cable? Thanks for watching 👍
Do these work on UV-K6 UV-K5(8)
Yes, they are essentially all the same 👍
Me puedes confirmar si desbloqueando funciona la banda de 40 metros solo quiero recepción gracias
I've not found a firmware that allows that yet, but it may be possible 🤔
Can you set this to run just on channel mode and run the channels from 1 to 22?
Yes 👍 Check out some of my other videos for more info. Thanks for watching.
@@m7frs272 I've been watchng, but I have not seen any explanation of running FRS/ GMRS or C/B.
Blast everbodies cortisol levels to 90 at the begining with your triple volume cw dam funko pop
Apologies! I've made the intro volume lower on more recent videos. Thanks for watching 👍
yahooooooo
Thanks for watching 👍
Your IJV mod isn't like mine. Mine is as user friendly and will transmit anywhere. Maybe you should update yours. I'm running IJV 2.7 I think.
Sorry it's v2.6.
How did u make it blue
The blue screen is on the UV-5R Plus model. As far as I know its not possible to change without adapting the hardware/components internally.
Try Kamils version
Hallo my friend Can a firmware update be reversed? To the original? Thanks
Yes it can 👍
Thank you for your reply nice videos Ben!
does this radio can scan 40 meters?
Not with any of the firmware I've tried. The lowest it will go is 17 meters (18 Mhz)
does this transmit on uk cb band
Basically, no, please see my latest video: th-cam.com/video/BE2Y7V2tGMM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1J3l4rXJQt87NCy1
So... ... ... no Fagci firmware?
I did try it but it bricked both of the radios when I tried to flash it, so flashed them both back. I'll have to experiment more and maybe that's for a future video. Thanks for watching.
@@m7frs272 gotcha, i'd probably stay away from that firmware until it matures a little, and try the Egzumer one on my UV-K5(8). Thanks 👍
Now, if only QuanSheng would release a variant with cleaner output and higher wattage, while still retaining the ability for us to use mods.
@@skewsme7650 We need lower power levels, not more, want more go mobile or base.
I got tje the egzuner one but it does not transmit....😢
What frequency/s are you trying to transmit on? You may need to check the 'F Lock' setting in the hidden menu.
@@m7frs272 I did and it's still locked
Anyone have the uv-k5 (99)? According to Amazon it is the most recent version of the UV-K5 series radio with only cosmetic differences. Can anyone verify this? Can it be modded?
I tried to get some on Amazon and EBay (USA sales) and they took so long I canceled them.
I ordered straight from china from a reputable dealer and got it quickly!!!
Amazon doesn’t even sell the latest one (with blue screen)
You’ve swapped your knobs
Knob jokes aside... I was thinking the same thing. Black on black is dooope.
Well spotted! Yes I have 😉
Yep, I think it looks better 😉
I did the same, prefer the blue screen. I have just bought a plus version (£7 ion Ali exp) just for the larger battery and intend to swap the internal board over so I get the blue screen on my 5(8).
I know it has no USBC for charging, but that’s fine I rarely use that anyway. 😊
hello ben 73'S, M0JNJ
As far as I understood it's only Milliwatts of power on 11m anyway so pretty pointless
You are 100% correct. It's fine for receiving but definitely should not be used for transmitting out of the frequencies It's designed for. Thanks for watching 👍
Nobody none of these videos show this radio recieving ssb on 2 meters 440 all I see is out of band nonsense
Harmful harmonies? You kidding me - Who is this going to hurt?
Anyone on board an aeroplane that's crashed due to interference for starters! 🤣 (and it's harmonics)
Come on.... That is just WAY over the top thats nonsense!
@@m7frs272
That may be a bit far fetched, however the interference WILL be caused within the airband frequencies causing disruption and difficulties with voice communication and navigation aids on board. Don't forget, aircraft and A/G stations use minimal power to communicate (about 1w) so a few Watts out of a handheld on the wrong frequency could cause serious issues.
I've done another video highlighting this if you're interested:
th-cam.com/video/BE2Y7V2tGMM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NH9sw5cqFYET9_yL
Interference! The harmonics are so so LOW and the transmitters from Air Control and the Cockpit are far more powerful to override any interference...
@@m7frs272
Yes I k now its Harmonics! Google spell nonsense - I can spell. @@m7frs272
Highlighting differences in firmware versions on different UV devices is somewhat awkward. Every firmware mod is different as are prices for groceries in different shops. You can fill hundreds of videos with these comparisons, basically comparing apples and oranges.
Not really different devices.
👎
is a bad mod .
Make radio crash and screen problem and sometime radio transmit in automatic.
no good this firmware very very bad,
