the old one looks so much better honestly.
It looks like someone actually tried.
He really needs his tabard from the old model
Well the new one is particularly bad, so i hope it does
Juan Díaz at its finest.
The new one looks like a Stay Puft Marshmallow boy who wears underpants over the belly button. The old Coteaz would bully him
Not many people know this but he’s called Inquisitor Coteaz because he was discovered by Arkhan Coteaz.
Naturally
So it's Coteaz's Inquisitor?
😁
@@Miniscape-wh40k That made me laugh. I was just watching Abbot & Costello "Who's on first?".
@@brionl4741 sorry I don't get the reference
The new one's trousers look like Wallace and Gromit's "the wrong trousers", those robotic trousers
😅
It's the wrong power armour!
😂
Wonder does Coteaz like cheese?
@@daverage4729 he has waged a thousand crusades in the search for Wensleydale
The new miniature is a prime example of “if you’re not going to try then don’t even bother”.
And yet, people will still buy it...
@@KevinCraftHobbyI really hope they don't. I expect better than that from humanity.
Why didn't they base it like on the Daemon Hunters book? That would have been sick.
Swear they used AI to make it.
@@KevinCraftHobby not this people
He always dresses well. What a fine coat-he-has. 🤣
@@katfezza4570 🤦🏾♂️
Old mini is superior
The new mini looks more like a Stormcast Character Model than a 40k one.
Coteaz's double headed eagle reminds me of the video to "Tower of Strength" by The Mission; which has a real Inquisitor feel to it. The video even features weird Chaos cultists.
Nice work on Coteaz's Thunder Nipples on his armour.
13:12 "I used the same dry brushing... tan earth first (and only)" 😄
Honestly, even Stormcast models look better than the new Coteaz. On the plus side, it's really easy to find a sufficiently good-looking Stormcast model to kitbash into your own Coteaz. The AoS 2nd ed Evocators would probably work well. And they're going the way of the Dodo, so they'll be easy to procure on the secondary market.
To me, this is when 40k hit its stride. Those later codicies from 3rd edition were absolutely spot on, giving you maximum freedom to personalise your armies and giving a ton of flavour to the game.
The combination of metal characters and plastic sets was also great. Metal sculpts were more detailed and durable than plastics of the time, with a nice heft, but the plastic kits were extremely versatile and customisable. I very much miss the days of the entire Space Marine infantry range having interchangeable components, encouraging kitbashing and the creation of unique models.
Thanks for another blast of nostalgia, friend.
I came in playing 4th edition so plenty of 3rd edition stuff was around. I remember scooping up Codex: Lost and the Damned for about $15 and being so inspired by how fun and creative you can get with an army like traitors and mutants. You also had the 13th Space Wolves there with Wulfen and tons of cool Space Wolf and Chaos kitbashes. Don't cry because its over, smile because it happen I guess..
@@dw5723 Hell, it's not over unless you say it is. I picked up that very same Codex about a year ago, and I've been building and playing with a Lost and Damned army ever since, at least when I can.
I'm hoping to get over 1k of mutants and traitors. It's just a fun little army to spend one's free time on.
@@Grymbaldknight That's awesome that you're collecting that, I think that codex is in competition with the 4th edition orks for being my favorite. It's "over" in the sense that you can't walk into a store and grab a box of chaos marauders, zombies, etc to build a collection, that's the bummer 😕 Very ambitious for the 1k model count, best of luck bro!
@@dw5723 Thanks! I also agree that the 4th Ed Ork Codex is amazing... and both books are compatible (and legal) with the 4th Edition rules, which are what I use most often. 😁
Honestly, playing a Lost and Damned army against 4th ed Orks using the 4th ed Apocalypse expansion is both seriously cool, and something it's entirely legal to do.
No, you can't buy those kits any more (in some cases)... but I have a 3D printer and a ton of digital files. Plus, you can use any kits you want for mutants, and there are a lot of other kits out there. 😊
Thanks for the well-wishing! Honestly, though, because you can take Chaos and Guard units in a Lost and Damned army, it's really not hard to bump those numbers up. A squad of Chaos Marines here, a Leman Russ there... it all comes together.
Happy hobbying!
its always shocking to me that about half way through your painting the model looks so messy but then you keep going and it looks so good at the end. gives me inspiration to keep pushing through when im at the sloppy mini stage of painting.
Yeah I know my paint jobs look rubbish for most of the time. I'm not phased by that. I can see the light at the end. Wishing you success with your painting.
@@Miniscape-wh40k thank. you!
Now thats an intimidating inquisitor, he looks so impressive and formidable. A far superior sculpt to that new thing which I honestly didn't realise was the same character.
Going with metalic golden armour was a good call. I like the motley inquisitor crew .. and the mother of all gyrinx.
"Dayum"
Felt that.
I was honestly hoping for "Coteaz, the ass of coaty" opening xd
Yeah I missed a trick there
As always, a treat to watch. Yeah, the old model has so much more character. But I am excited to be be able to try and finally paint up my own version of the henchman squad.
You’re not wrong about the eBay listings! I figured they’d have all jumped in price as soon as the new model was announced… I’m glad I’ve got one in my collection. Painted many years ago, but I don’t want to redo him as he’s a product of the time.
He definitley is. I thought about getting one from ebay for a while but never did, then as soon as the release was public I went to ebay to buy a old one before the prices will sky rocket... yea to late the prices are bonkers now. Even a coteaz with no Arms is above 30 bucks
Fantastic resurrection of a classic irreplaceable mini ❤️🔥
I've got the original metal model of this guy around somewhere, helped me win a local tournament back in the day!
"Torquemada; do not employ him for compassion
Torquemada; do not beg him for forgiveness
Torquemada; do not ask him for mercy
Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
I laughed 😂
Haha, damn, I was about to post that. Great to see that I wasn't the only one!
we've flattened their fingers, we've branded their buns. Nothing is working! SEND IN THE NUNS. 🤣
Just a fantastic mini, even today! I felt GW really stepped up their production value with this one!! Great Video!!
Ordo malleus. Malleus ordo.
The rubber hammer is so that when he gives the daemon a whack, it gives off a satisfying "boing!"-sound.
😅
You know, between the new Coteaz mini, that stupid Chaos Jump Lord, and all of the monopose push-fit minis we've had lately, I'm actually reconsidering GW's moniker as the best sculptors of plastic. Doubly so for that price hike.
I think I'll give Wargame Exclusive minis a go. I've heard they do lots of cool T'au "Greater Good" minis with really _massive guns._
I'm with you
They haven't been the best in a very long time
@@boboayame2065 who is the best then?
It's like we ended up in the worst timeline where we pay metal model prices for fiddly mono-pose plastic miniatures. It's like GWs design philosophy peaked with the multipart plastic space marine captain that came out in the 00s and then regressed from there. We didn't know how good we had it.
And what about every the new Dark Angels sculpts (DW Knights are some of the coolest models ever sculpted), the entire Kroot range, the awesome Kill Teams (Especially Night Lords), that standalone sisters model in white, Necormunda, not to mention all the AoS sculpts...
Massive hyperbole. Just because a few models are bad or not to your taste does mean they suddenly are bad at making plastic sculpts.
Greetings and Salutations! This one turned out quite nicely. All the best, Billi.
Thank you
I was having a bad day until this video dropped. Now it’s a great day.
😄
One of my favourite miniatures, bought a long time after stopping to play 40k. Amazing paint job, thank you for sharing!
Impressive work, the old paintjob was so muddy I'd have gone crosseyed trying to make sense of it.
Miniatures with pets are always the best ❤️
They so are
I remember buying this; along with his retinue as boxed with a squad of Grey Knights and a copy of Codex: Daemonhunters. Loved the mini at the time.. the recent release was a call back. Unsure whether I prefer the new release or the new one if i'm honest. Perhaps it's better in the flesh.
Great paintjob!
Dunno, my biggest problems are the new Coteaz hair (why), the bird's pierced wing and just how... plain his armor is, and that armored diaper. Just keep the loincloth if you already have a big, impractical cloak.
Thanks 😊
DID YOU KNOW: Lord Inquisitor Coteaz is the Imperium's finest scholar in Bird Law, and his queries codified the Spaghetti policy of over 40,000 Astra Militarum command posts in the Formosa Sector?
Love it. Great work!
I had that codex and that White Dwarf. 👴🏼
The new mini seems a step down on the old one to me. 🤷🏽♂️
Having read through the old codex a bit, I would have loved to have made a daemonhunters army. They seem so characterful.
@@Miniscape-wh40k indeed, imho it´s a shame we didn´t get alienhunters to compliment witchhunters (my alltime fav) and demonhunters, that would´ve been dope. Also thank you for your videos, they´re awesome

@Miniscape-wh40k I believe you proclaimed your love for him in it. I finally got around to painting my mini of him. In case I ever have the chance to play the scenarios in the Battle for Macragge box.
Coteaz!!! great mini, and very good restoration. I liked the new edition, the zooms are appreciated.
No baking for this episode. I'm going to be paying full attention to the best version of Coteaz.
Well Katt, that's all I can ask for 😊
How much baking can you get done in 18minutes?
@fan9775 I often keep some pre measured dough in the freezer, or use the 18 minutes to prepare more.
Edit: Cookies are quick, too.
@@Kattbirb I like to think you save it for my videos 😉
@@Miniscape-wh40kYour videos do tend to come out at 7:00 AM on one of my days off, so it does work out that way.
Good and cozy job as always. You handled the wobbly shaft just fine.
🫣
You've mentioned once or twice how nervewracking you find picking out really small details like eyes, eye lenses on helmets and thin highlights on armor panels and such.
I'd like to share a little tip for that to whomever find it daunting to keep a steady hand.
What I used to do when picking out ridiculously small details (like eyewhites and painting small irises and pupils on eyes and such) was that I made sure to be seated at a really high table or using a very low chair.
The idea is that you want to fully rest your elbows and maybe a bit of your arms and upper body against the table surface as well.
When your arms are rested like this, hand tremors really just disappeared for me.
Try it out sometime if you haven't already. 🙂
I find it nerve-wracking doing it whilst filming. In general I am fine with it. So if you have any tips for doing it whilst filming, I am all ears.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Ah, makes sense.
Can't be too easy picking out fine details with camera equipment in between.

Happy joy for the groovy jam, and a cool mini to boot. 👍🤗
Always a treat to see these videos! Thank you for your hard work!
I really like that you show that you don’t have to follow all the conventional wisdom and popular advice to get a good result. I’ll think twice next time about whether I really need to strip a model or not next time.
Experimentation and risk taking are oen of the joys of this hobby. Too many fun times have been lost from one over-researching and overplanning and putting off the good stuff. Anyway thanks for commenting and have a great day!

Corteaz was the first Inquisition Model i ever owned. Such a Great Model. together with his Servitors.
I always love these videos. I just wanna sit in a coffee shop sipping some cap and watch.
Don't have him, but did order the hammer and eagle from the back of White Dwarf. Was meant for a Space Wolf conversion, but never quite got around to it. Thinking about it, the eagle could work well with my Wolf Lord...*loud rummaging through a dusty bits box*
i have this dude as well missing the rest of his retinue using vostroyan as proxies lol but what i dont understand is in his lore he despises psychers above anything but he always alongside grey knights
Yeah that does seem like a contradiction
Not to mention he's a psycher himself. His therapy sessions must be really interesting...
He is a psyker, he hates heretics and witches
@@D1-Games thats what am saying!
Think of him as an evangelical preacher who secretly hangs out in gay bars three towns from home and you've nailed the mindset....
I have like three metal version of this guy.
Great sculpts used to come from the minds of great artworks. The new variant was clearly inspired by Boss Baby, resplendent in power nappies.
It really reflects the state of play...
Another great vid.
Codex Demon Hunter was so badass, I recall winning a RT with pure demonhunter them. Man I miss blisters
A far superior mini. And I do love your lore/rules speak. Still my main source of inspiration for my videos my friend.
They do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery after all. 😁
Thanks buddy. I am flattered indeed. Playing a game with you is still on my bucket list.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Definitely. Facing your Ultramarines or Chaos would be great fun.
Damn you got that "Warrior Woman" from the Last Chancers line that got shown in Chapter Approved 2001!
the fact his first name is Torquemada and he is an inquisitor amuses me to no end and im sure Mel Brooks would find this funny as well
A very fine paintjob, especially for 4 hours' work!
😁
i will use the old model.
Dude, I’ve almost bought this a dozen times or more, to go with my massive - Ordo Malleus heavy - Inquisition, but always passed, because I’ve got Hector Rex and figured they’d never be in the same place at the same time, so why bother, as if that’s any sort of reason. Now I’m just some idiot who’ll never get one, because the new one stank up the price of these so bad.
Apologies if this has already been commented but the "Whoever this is" is the warrior woman from the Schaeffer's Last Chancers set from I believe the late 90s. Awesome video!
Thanks. It's fine. I knew who she was, but my feigned ignorance has yielded some engagement 😜
btw if you're interested that female miniature that you brought out is Warrior Woman from Last Changers box. Yes that's her name.
No I knew that. It's just my dry humour.
You have try the AK interactive paint stripper for resin. It blows my mind how good it works. It's a little spendy, but it is worth every penny.
Fair enough, but I have just finished painting him and he looks fine. I am not going to strip him.
Commiting painter heracy while painting an Inquisitor is a gamble indeed ! ! !
Speak plainly man
Torquemada - do not beg him for mercy. Torquemada - do not ask him for forgiveness. Let's face it - you can't Torquemada anything!
What have they done to my boi???
Shout out to the homie Quixos and RIP Titus Endor
Still the best Coteaz. Even if I play current 40k I'll always use this model.
We need a price comparison onld vs. New.
We already know who wins the looks department.
Not sure if you’re still wondering, but that female metal model you showed at the end is the Warrior Woman model from Colonel Schaeffer’s Last Chancers. Love the video and can’t wait to watch more!
Thanks. I knew who she was. I just say stuff sometimes you know 😂
I found the codex for Daemon Hunters in a used book shop and despite playing 40k for many years, did not know the faction existed. I am very excited for the new codex and various ways you can play the ordos. I think the best Inquisitor is the one that looks like the Warhammer Fantasy witch hunter and has the flaming pistol. I am also biased because that is the only metal one I have, but he came with no weapons. Luckily Inquisitors can take just about anything so it was a fun job looking for imperium, xenos, or heretical weapons for him.
I love those charity shop finds
Torqamada. Do not implore him for Compassion . . .
Torqamada, Do not beg him for forgiveness . . .
Torqamada, Do not ask him for compassion . . .
Lets face it, you can't talk him out of anything ! ! !
Yeah, the oldie but goldie!
It seems Coteaz overdosed on his last juvenat treatment, now he grew hair and thicc hips but this older mini reminds us he used to be a cool dude.
Crazy how much more flavour was in older 40k compared to how sterile it is these days. Grey knights and Inquisitors should have always been one army.
I'm surprised a "failcast" mini survived your bits box. I find this things break to an intense stare

@@Miniscape-wh40k He obviously does. It's a miracle. lol
GW lol how did they approve the new one 😅
Great video as always 👍
Thank you
Yeah his price shot up everywhere when the new one was shown off
I guess I'm just confused as to why the eagle gets its own model. What does it do?
In the new rules? We don't know yet.
Worried we weren't getting a song for a second there.
Worry not
I have 3 of them. One remodeled with no eagle no hammer but demonette head in the eagle hand (Grey Knight kit) and a power sword in the hammer- hand (yes that was a pun) 😁 as a Rogue Trader for my buddy’s Rogue Trader Character. The other two are getting magnetized hammer arms-Hammer, Staff, Halberd (both GK)
The new mini is so bad that it's surreal. It's like being a character in a Lovecraft story seeing non-euclidian geometry and eldritch abominations. Can't believe that they release somehting like that
Looks good in my opinion.

One of my first miniatures. I have the metal version, tho. It's soooo much better than the new mini.
I think the new miniature looks fine... For a generic Ordo Malleus Inquisitor. I can even see some areas where they could have options (Like a sash instead of that goofy belt, weapon and head alts)
But as Coteaz, it just falls flat
I like the new one more as you get 2 minis for the price of one.
Bur both are excellent to me.
Ngl, not striping that thing that looks like it got rolled in glue and sand was a bold move but you managed to pull it off pretty well.

Heh. That book thing is gloriously funny. In the midst of blood-soaked carnage, the very forces of malevolance manifested in rage and claws, the cacophany of hell itself unleashed, and you stop to flick through your almanac. Head Coteaz voice today provided by John Inman.

"gggrrggfff!"
"There there, it's not all that bad, you get to spend some time with family, after all. Have a nice cup of tea."
"geggegrrrfss!"

I don’t get why the new model gets rid of so many details an especially the loincloth
I can't make out if it is also missing the important hourglass
It was a decent song until the "Passing gas", line. Then it became a Great song! One of your Top ten hits!!!
😅
Its so hard to find this mini on ebay ever since the reveal 😢
❤ I love his videos
I'm used to nu-GW absolutely ruining classic models with their downgrades but this one is something else, I don't know what is going on in the studio when random hobbyists are making better sculpts and putting them up free. Absolutely dreadful
… all the model updates GW has released have been bangers. Faithful, and really nice kits.
Coteaz has been the first dud out of the updates.
I understand it’s very hand not to complain, but if you’re going to complain about GW- complain about their shitty practices, instead of claiming that all their models are bad.
Great video
Thank you
Great job on that coteaz, Matthew!
Two things I think we can conclude with this video:
1. This new coteaz vs. The old coteaz shows how sometimes digital sculpting pales in comparison to hand sculpting, the new one makes me think of baby commando from captain commando if you remember that old arcade beat 'em up game from the 1990s, or to a lesser extent tommy pickles from rugrats in power armour. Just bland and cartoonish compared to what its much, MUCH better predecessor looks like.
2. If we factor in the exorbitant prices of gw models, and their current faux-pas with this model, you good sir have a golden opportunity here in the world of bootleg recasts of this model. Who knows, maybe if the gods smile upon you, your entrepreneurial venture into bootleg coteaz production will net you enough short-term profits to buy a new car or something really nice for Mrs. Miniscape, etc., between now and the end of the fiscal year, so keep that in mind.
And as something that your song stirred in the vein of the tree falling in the forest and nobody's around to hear it....if you're in power armour and you pass gas, wouldn't this amplify the sound several times and create an echoing fart sound that could be heard for a good block or two around you? And if so.....did belisarius cawl fix that during his 10k years of this super secret mega-project to outdo the emperor himself? If you have any thoughts on the matter, by all means enlighten us!
Keep up the quality work, cheers!
Even if I wanted to, I don't have the skills or facilities for recasting. As for releasing gas in power armour, yeah I've never thought about that before. It just fit in with the other lyrics. Thanks Buddy
@@Miniscape-wh40k lol duly noted and thanks for replying as always no matter how nonsensical the comments i might leave end up being, keep up the good work!
Nice, wish we had 2nd Ed rules
Yeah I had a look for those but the only thing close is a generic Inquisitor Lord entry in the codex army lists that came with the second edition starter set. The army list in question is imperial agents.

@@Miniscape-wh40kpretty much anything solving acrylics will melt finecast. It's a terrible material to work with. Sandblasting with art sandblasting kit actually does work and doesn't diminish the details. But in general, I really don't see advantages of finecast.
The old one looks like a Stormcast Eternal from AoS yet still looks so much better than the new one
