    Made a mistake when I was showing the chargers. I was holding the wrong ones lol. The ASUS G16 uses a 240W power brick for the 4080/4090 and a 200W brick for the 4070.
    What do you guys think of t he ASUS G16?

      I want to buy it when I get enough money. I think it is cooler than M16 2023 and G14 2024. I really want to try AI accelerators which built in 185H. So many benefits in so lightweight chassis. Perfect choice as for me

      240W charger still seems low for the higher spec version, since it won't actually run at 240W during use (180W more realistic). If it's not tuned well, the laptop can easily drain battery when plugged in during gaming or when running both CPU & GPU tasks
      I would be interested in 1% low comparison for games, esp higher FPS ones, to see if it's sacrificing performance

    Can this thing sit on a flat-couch/flat-bed? How is wobbly display on spongier surfaces? Alot of laptops can't sit on ur lap or anything other than a table anymore. How does it compare to the G14....asus seem to put all the good stuff in the G14 versions and cheap their 16 inch customers out.
    Is a 4090 going to run louder and have more thermal issues in general on laptop? I thought I heard the 4070 ran cooler than numbers below itself. So by that standard higher number might be quieter and cooler. Or are all the heating issues if any going to come from the intel i9 chips?

    • @tinybit780
      @tinybit780 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      4090 is cooler than 4080 due its die size. Same with Razer Blade 16. 4090 is cooler and quieter then the 4080. 4070 is coolest though, different category of a GPU.

    • @Cerbyo
      @Cerbyo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tinybit780 k, then 4090 on the g16 should be quieter than any other config cause of the vapor cooler vs fans of 4070 i guess. This is confusing tho everyone said the 4060 and 4080 were the most sensible performance options for mid/high respectively, but Matthew shows the performance of the 4080 is only small bump like the increase from 4060 to 4070...mbe that's just on this model. The legion 7i slim fr last year had so many heat/noise issues when specced with 4070 and i9 I had to return it, guess i'll try to look for a vapor cooled unit.

    Wait, why would you need to reboot when switching between internal and external GPU:s?? I thought the G16 has Advanced Optimus which can handle the switching without rebooting?

    • @Os_E_L
      @Os_E_L 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Advanced Optimus allows you to enable/disable the dGPU at will in Hybrid Mode. But this mode means that the GPU has to render frames through the CPU to the display, which causes increased display latency. What he was talking about was switching from dGPU mode to Hybrid Mode. In dGPU mode, the GPU will render frames and send it directly to the display, but it does require a restart since it bypasses the CPU's iGPU.

      It is, cause both ultra vs rtx 4000 series are all for efficiency. Which really not much sense for "gaming notebook" cause those laptop was build like a tank to get the heat. So performance wasn't that big of a gap. But on other hand, for ultrabook, 4000 show exceptional performance which 3000 lost when you take out the juice. Ultra 7 vs 9 also did the samething, they give you less core but same boost, which combination of ai technology to react with gaming and normal activities to twist the performance. I wouldn't suggest going upgrade from last year. But last generation? Then it sure worth something.

    Can someone do me a favor and check your ROG Zephyrus 2024 for similar issues? I have the model with the RTX 4090. I noticed several things I either do not like or might be defective:
    1. I noticed the trackpad mouse click is very stiff. By stiff, I mean perhaps the stiffest click I have ever encountered. After using the laptop for awhile my wrist is throbbing. Are you guys finding the mouse click to be higher than other laptops? I find the stiff click to a be a real letdown.
    2. Just an observation but the fans on the default power mode are loud, very loud. I don’t understand why the fans need to be loud and audible just typing an email or work document. Obviously, I can change to silent but then the power drops and you defeat the point of paying for top-of-the-line hardware. I owned the Razer 16” recently and the fans never came on to browse, type, or do similar low wattage activities. If you use your computer to work all day, it is not fun to hear the whistle of fans constantly.
    3. My biggest concern involves the OLED panel. Specifically, when I am looking at medium to dark colors (blacks are fine), especially greys, I can see what looks like noise. Medium to dark solid colors don’t look uniform. The way I would describe the noise is it looks like compression artifacts from a low-quality signal or a high ISO digital image. I wasn’t even looking for anything and I started to notice many of my dark backgrounds contained noise, much like a lower quality panel. To make sure I was not just being picky, I compared the colors to my older, cheap laptop with and IPS Screen and my 5 year old Benq photography monitor. Neither had any hint noise or uniformity issues. I’m really wondering if there is an issue with either my laptop or these OLED screens in general.
    The problem is easy to identify and replicate, simply go to Fullscreen.one (or Google search it) and click on the 60% or 80% black and look closely. On mine you can see all kinds of random noise patterns.
    If you have this laptop, please do me a huge favor and check out your results and post what you find. Thanks guys!

I am looking to do some light gaming maybe if that, particularly diablo 4 and hell divers 2 atm, don't really game much but need to have the GPU power to run CAD software smoothly for hobbies and run VM. I was using a 16" M2 Pro MacBook Pro for creative work, fantastic device and quality, sold it. But I am finishing my major in Cyber Sec. So Macs are not the go to for this line of work. When it comes to windows side, I have a love and hate relationship with this Asus product right now. It certainly gives Razer competition. It has a professional look and form factor to it. Just the one thing really throwing me off from buying this G16 is that damn screen wobble. Its a ugly feeling seeing how poor quality these hinges were made and passed through inspection and offered into production. I am glad Asus went and revised the design from last year models. This years model has checked a lot of boxes that gives great satisfaction to an extent. However If I am going to spend Apple price tag money for a device that's going to be my unit for many years. That wobble better not exist in a display. Its annoying to be outdoors and have some small wind breeze blow your screen like a rocking chair while studying or on a table and any small movements just makes it wobble. Hoping there is a way to tighten them or resolve that issue some other way. Wobble aside, It is difficult to find options for a premium 14-16" windows laptop that checks off a lot of boxes as a premium laptop with great performance in a form factor like this, it is a step in the right direction though. I may pull the trigger on this one when it becomes available in white.

    Man, I’m torn. I wanna use a laptop for good gaming and overall general use for media creation and just normal non intensive tasks. I don’t know if oled and the slim look is better than a mini led g18 strix. What do you suggest is better with either a 4070-4080

    • @CCthekink123
      @CCthekink123 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So I’ll try to answer your question with specifications so this 4080 is barely more powerful than a 4070 in this case. typically a 4080 is around 53% more powerful than a 4070 not 20% like we’re seeing here. So a strix 4080 will be around 23-25% more powerful at the same gpu and that’s in real world fps. But a strix 18 is huge and like 3 of these stacked together. So if you want raw performance and a bigger display… but at the end of the day the best laptop is the one you have with you.. the strix 16 is a good compromise between the two if portability matters.
      I have both OLED and mini led. They’re both good OLED does look better.

      Cause pricing...165h is too close to 185h so why have to go in middle ground where 185h vs 155h weren't that much different in performance. Why they choose 185h is just because you will buy rtx 4080 laptop vs 4090 laptop so you gonna expect something to compensate that huge price bump. That's why 185h was choosing to pair.
