    Anyone buying base model doesn't have the money to call for help, they need that spare tire. I'm not a Volkswagen fan, but this one looks great. The best looking Jetta (not GLI) i've seen in over 10 years. Handsome front, modern rear, nice interior! I actually like it.

      I've known stinking rich people who bought base models of plebian cars, so you ought to rethink that assertion.

      @philipf2705 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@xianshep The majority of stinking rich people who buy a base model Jetta as a representation of all based model Jetta buyers will be less than 10%( and i'm being generous). I'm speaking for the majority of base model Jetta buyers, the 90% who don't have high incomes, and would like to change the flat themselves on the side of the road as opposed to use a tire repair kit or placing a tow truck service call to rescue them. The rare example you gave doesn't mean i need to rethink my assertion, when i am speaking for the majority - most people who are buying base model don't have a high income or alot of disposable income.

    • @xianshep
      @xianshep 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@philipf2705 Yeah, but YOU wrote "Anyone." In any event, I'd bet good money that people who "can't afford to call for help" aren't buying new Volkswagens, base models or otherwise, anyway. Or perhaps you're talking about people who can't also afford to buy insurance? MY insurance - the cheapest I could find - on MY base model Jetta includes free roadside assistance and towing up to at least 25 miles. But hey, nice try - keep fighting for that donut spare. Mine has proved so unnecessary in eight years and 298K miles of driving that I've thought of removing it to have a nice big hidden trunk compartment.

    I have a 2020 Jetta SEL. Has been a very reliable car and is very athletic and Pepe where it needs to be in the low end as well as the top end so great for every day driving in traffic and on the freeway the best part is the fuel economy cannot be beat on five hour plus Highway journeys which I regularly take I’m getting 46 to 47 mpg. In city 32. And the technology is on par with what you would get in the prestige trim level of an Audi. The only downside is does not have the upscale materials on the interior like an Audi, but that is my only gripe. I’m very happy at almost almost 70,000 miles. The new 2025 GLI looks very attractive.

    This refreshed 2025 design looks so good! It's genuinely handsome. Andrea summed up my thoughts perfectly on the previous design, calling it "frumpy". I'm not too fond of it. I'm so disappointed the base trim doesn't come with a spare tire. I'd happily exchange that unnecessary digital gauge cluster (which will likely cost a fortune to repair in the future) for a spare tire. If I was in the market for a compact sedan, the Jetta would be on my list. VW's long-term reliability is always a concern for me though. It doesn't ease my worry that VW's warranty is one of the shortest in the industry in the U.S. Most have at least a 5yr/60k mile warranty.

    I dont know why they changed the positioning of the infotainment. I have a 2019 GLI and it's the same 8" display and it sits flush with my console and doesn't protrude. It's got a much cleaner look. I wonder if it's cheaper and faster to slap on a screen and have it stick out during production (less tolerances for a tighter fit), vs trying to make it sit flush with the console.

    My first new car in 1990 was a VW Jetta. I liked it so much that I wanted to buy another. I went into the dealership and none of the salespeople would give me the time of day. No worries, I said, there is more than one VW dealership in town. Went to the second one and no one would even look at me. Ended up buying a Camry instead. When it was time to trade in the Camry, my first stop was at the VW dealership. I walked in, kicked a few tires, waited around and again, no one acknowledged my existence. It’s so “ funny “ that you guys made this Post as my son just returned from his 2 weeks on at Site C yesterday and when I picked him up he mentioned he was thinking about getting a Jetta / GLI. I would love to have a GLI with a manual as I learned how to drive, took my license test and drove a standard transmission for the first 17 years of my driving lifetime. A couple concerns. I am 6 foot2 and a non longer trim 275 lbs while my son is 6 foot 4 and around 195. How’s the “room “ for a bigger than average person? Also, has Volkswagen ditched the Direct Injection only system to something like Toyota’s half Direct and half through the intake injection? 158 hp and almost 200 lb feet of torque sounds good. I don’t think you gave a torque number for the GLI 2 litre but 228 hp sounds yummy. When you give the litres per 100 kms number and the miles per gallon, is that a USA gallon. With a Canadian gallon being basically 10% bigger the fuel consumption sounds even better. Of the last 3 vehicles I’ve owned I have never had much difficulty achieving or exceeding the manufacturer’s numbers by 1-2 mpg and although I don’t drive like I did in my Camaro 40+ years ago it’s nic3 to know I can if I want. P.S. When Zack had that Motoring show quite some time ago I suggested that vehicles should also be “ reviewed “ at night to get an idea about lighting and visibility. Many modern cars/trucks have pathetic low beams even some of the ones with factory LEDs.

For example - looking at a 2021 A4 Quattro premium plus s line, 261 hp engine, 19k miles advertised for $26,428 USD. If you like wagons you can opt for the all road version. To me it is. GLI is build in Mexico and has way too much hard plastic in the interior. The rear of the Jetta GLI has hard plastics everywhere, lack rear AC vents and there are no 12V or USB ports. My MK8 GTI was built in Germany, much nicer, more solid, better engine, far superior chassis, far more refined and power engine EA888 gen 4 and the seats and cabin 2 levels above the Jetta/GLI. Rear seats are spacious, excellent headroom and feature AC vents and 2 rear USB-C ports. The GTI is a no brainer choice over the Mexican made GLI.

      There are NO EPA laws that concern manual transmissions. In EUROPE there were PROPOSED increases to fuel economy that would have made it HARDER to meet them with a manual transmission. When the accelerator and gear choice are linked to a human brain vs a computer, the car is able to perform in a way that is less, cough cough, economical.
      Those PROPOSED laws were rescinded in Europe. VW trots that out as an excuse, but it is not actually true. What is most likely the TRUTH is that VW didn't want another parts bin. They wanted more money in their pocket and it was just CHEAPER for THEM to build a single transmission.
      The manual transmission was 35-50% take rate on the Golf depending on model and trim in the USA. Discontinuing it makes zero sense for that kind of take rate. VW ASSUMED the proposed law in Europe would BECOME law, when in reality it didn't happen.
      Honda still offers manual transmission and Acura INTRODUCED manual transmission in the Integra. So please don't say there is some EPA mandate to eliminate manual transmissions. It is simply untrue.
