  • We think the BMW i3 is a pretty well built car and even older examples remain mostly rattle-free. However, there is one annoying noise which often pops up around the glovebox lid area.
After trying out different things, we finally discovered a reliable solution, which you can easily do yourself as well!
That and a guide on how to replace all three of the interior dashboard trims in case you wish to upgrade to the Dark Oak (or very expensive) open-pore Eucalyptus wood is all described by Arthur in this video.

I’ve been having this rattle for years, thought it was in the door, but after following your method the rattle is completely gone!

Very helpful tip about the rattle. And the Dark Oak trim looks terrific against the Gulf Blue.

I took delivery of my new i3s in April 2020, and the rattle revealed itself within days. I’ve been hoping for a solution ever since. Thank you so much!

Also where did you get the trim from? Can see plenty on eBay but I obviously question the legitimacy!

I just swapped all my seats and cards from cloth to leather and will do the Dark Oak later on to finish it off

Recently did the trim upgrade myself (no idea where you found the dark oak for less than £300!). Looks so much better than the stock "custard" ones that don't even match the A pillar. I have the larger display and did manage to get the centre piece in without removing it (gave up trying to get the tabs on the display off). Took some forcing though and wouldn't recommend it as a shortcut, haha!
The pattern on mine lines up too, so all 3 bits are definitely from the same bit of wood 👍🏻

I got rid of the rattle by taking out the whole glve box to get access to the damper that serves the lid. I tied some elastic bands around the damper and that solved it. At the time I did it, it was an experiment so I wish I'd spent more time but its been over a year and it hasn't returned. If it ever returns I'll use your method too.

I wish I knew to move the air vent out of the way when I tackled this! For an even cheaper upgrade, I did a gloss white vinyl wrap on the trim pieces to match the white exterior and it looks great!

Great video, I love these cars so different to every other car on the road. I’m watching everything regarding i3 as I’m wanting to get one but I’m a little intimidated regarding the costs of any issues that might pop up.
    Great colour to.

We offer our own warranty packages up to 24 months long, and these are specifically written with the i3 in mind. Ultimate piece of mind :)

Perfect! Would like a source in US for those parts at a reasonable price. I’ve seen them for over $900 and actually one for about $450. If anyone knows a good one, it would be appreciated.
    Another excellent vid.

Does the dark oak trim fit a 2015 model?
On sites that sells the kit it's often stated that it fits model year 2017 and onwards.

Thanks for posting this, I'll bear the tips in mind if the dash in mine develops the rattle and I think the oak trim upgrade will look good in my black i3 so I think I'll give it a go.
Have you had any issues with excessive wind noise on the passenger side of the i3? I seem to occasionally have this but I can't pinpoint the source. If you come across this issue I would be interested to see a video of likely sources and solutions.
I now have the Michelin tyres fitted that I bought from you last year and I've been really impressed with them so I'll give you a shout when I need another set of tyres 👍

If the windscreen isn't a Saint-Gobain article with a BMW roundel in the bottom corner, it's likely been replaced and to do so much of the trim around the A-pillar and side windows needs to be disassembled (and often doesn't get re-assembled correctly). Hope this helps.

Thanks for getting back to me. The windscreen is the original. I'll have a closer look at the seals etc and see if there is anything obvious

Apologies, I’m going off topic here:
Is anyone having problems charging their i3 using an Octopus Electroverse card?
Does anyone have advice on the i3 charging settings? Charge Immediately setting?
Thank you for any advice anyone may have.

    • @blairfalconer915
      @blairfalconer915 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I used my card this evening with no problems ( was the first time I've used it in a few months)
I don't set charging with the car app, I controlled charging times with my charger app (Hypervolt) before moving to the Intelligent Octopus tariff, with this the Octopus app links with the car and controls charging times according to what times and percentages you specify

Thanx for this video but this is not the solution / fix of the rattle issue. I just reassamble the glove box cover and the metal part (beam) sitting well and holds by very strong spring. The issue is still not fixed in my car.

For me it was the damper that serves the glove box lid, which was clicking when moving up and down over bumps in the road. I took the entire glove box out, lubricated it and tied some elastic bands around the piston. Been fine for over a year.
