After seeing this review, I finally saved enough money to get it, and I absolutely love it. I haven’t been able to play bari since middle school (college freshman now). It sounds clear and punchy and hits the low notes so well. Note that it does seem to like to play low notes a lot easier than the high notes. It’s a lot more responsive and better quality than the ones my school had (that were triple the price at least). It’s solid and doesn’t feel fragile. The case has lots of nice storage and handles. I’m even able to fit a few binders with my music in there. If you’re a poor working college or high school kid like me, then this is perfect for you.
I just received my Singer’s Day bari a couple days ago., and I am very pleased with it. Keys are closely spaced (great for my tiny hands), have minimal excursion, and respond wonderfully. I originally ordered one when I first saw your video, but something happened to the order on the seller’s end and order was cancelled. As soon as it became available again, I reordered and was given a delivery date of mid-June. Man, was I surprised when it showed up last Thursday. It sounds great, and I love it! Thanks for the review!
If you dont mind me asking, where were you able to purchase it? Amazon is selling it for $4600 (instead of $2300) and it seems to be out of stock on the Singer's Day website.

Do you know how much it weighs? I borrowed 2 different baris from 2 friends and stepped on my scale with and without the bari. One was 12 lbs and the other 12.5. I was wondering about the Singer bari sax?
Okay, so I just saw this video the other day and then purchased this horn on Amazon. It came in less than a week and it is AWESOME!!! I just can't believe how good it sounds. It actually got here before my reeds and mouthpiece which were ordered on the same day. The horn came with a reed and decent mouthpiece. Thanks so much for the tip. Wow I like the Singer's Day sax. There is no way I would pay more than 3x the amount for something with a minute sound difference. The first clip (the first few seconds of each) I felt that the cheaper one was more rich in sound. Later in the video the Yani matched the richness in some ways but.... wow! Nice review! Thank you Jay I have been waiting for this for a long time.
Enjoyed the video. I live in China and contacted the manufacturer after seeing the video. They are an OEM for Conn-Selmer and GEWA as I understand. I ordered a Bari sax directly from them. Not the model you tested, but a bronze model (SDS-2019), which they sell as their "professional" model (abt. 2500 USD in China). I absolutely love it. Sounds amazing (with a JJ DV7 mouthpiece) and definitely well built as you show on the video. I've been longing for some time for a baritone sax in my collection (all Selmer Paris, soprano series III, alto Ref54 Hummingbird collector ed. and tenor Ref54 kookaburra collector ed), but was looking up against the investment of a Bari sax in the 10,000 USD price range to complete the Selmer series. This video made my day.
One thing that would make this great review even better is to hear from a repairman regarding the long term repair-ability of the horn. A good bari overhaul is around $1,500 and will last 10 years for most players. But if your repairman informs you that he can’t overhaul it 5 years in and it is already worn out, you would be better off going a different route.
This bari looks 100% identical to my Thomann TBS-150, even the engravinig is identical. They must be the same sax, with different branding. I'm extremely happy with my Thomann.
Also the Kessler & Sons Solist bari. I did purchase this bari directly from Singers Day. I’ve owned it six-ish months now. Maybe that made a difference, but mine plays very well in tune. Very easy hit low A. I use a Jody Jazz HR* mouthpiece. Also, I found with Leger reeds I can get a little more bark out of it. I play jazz, swing, Motown, and some rock. It’s working wonderfully for me.
I have a Thomann Bari pro PB model which is a grade up from the 150 bought it 5yrs ago for 2500€ but now is over 4K an excellent sax have gigged and recorded with it no problems.
When you first started playing, I closed my eyes and listened... and waited for the tone/timbre/etc to change when you swapped horns. I NEVER heard the change!!! I then opened my eyes and was astounded that both horns sounded almost identical. VERY impressive. My question is the about the left pinky finger table. I have medium hands and have an issue with getting my finger all the way down the Bb key. While the table on my bari is articulated, it is not scalloped in a way to help the fingers move around.
Based on your recommendations I bought this singer's day baritone saxophone in December, 2023 and it plays better than I expected but you will need to get a better mouthpiece. I bought mine from their B stock. Thanks for the video..
Absolutely beautiful sound! I used to play for a few years back in middle school; now that I’m in a metal band I’m looking to pick one up for some projects we’re gonna work on! Forgot how absolutely stellar this instrument sounds 🥲
They both sound like you. Once I bring one home it'll sound like me. Maybe I'll add a Bari once I get good sound out of my tenor, alto, or soprano. Back to practice. As always your videos inspire. Thanks Jay!
You don’t talk about a couple of important things: 1) Are parts available for the cheaper horn when it breaks? 2) The durability (which you won’t know for awhile).
Thank you for your video. I like the way you explained the differences and pointed out the quality of the Singers Day. I'm looking forward to owning one.
I have been in band for 5 years and had to quit due to back problems and schedule issues. I am gonna get a part time job for this sax! I have been having the ich to play for a while!
thank you so much for this video. I have missed playing so badly and I have been looking for an affordable option that I can trust. Again, thanks so much!!
I figured I would share my experience with the horn. Ive had the Singers Day for quite some time now. It's held up very well. I'm extremely happy with the quality of the instrument as well as the case it comes with. A few things however, the mouthpiece it comes with definitely isn't fantastic and do not even attempt to use the reed or neck strap. Get your own. Other than that. It's a great horn. Had a minor sealing problem with my F-Key but was not the fault of the actual sax. I think I dropped it. And the Side-E key came a little further down from the rest of the right palm keys. But it doesn't effect the sound or playing at all. Overall great horn and has held up well so far. If you're looking for a bari sax but are on a budget. Definitely would recommend.
I haven’t really heard any differences , you sound fat on both ! Of course interactive feelings are the most important . Great video ! Glad you chose dat grenade launcher-bazooka thumbnail , I voted for it haha
In 2015 I actually bought a TaiShan Winds TSBS-680 Bari Sax new, for $1500 shipped! Still playing it! It isn't a B901 clone, but it takes many design features of the B901! But, I don't recommend TaiShan unless you can do your own setup. It took a lot to properly set it up (I do my own setups). I point people to Kessler, Chateau, and Antigua for affordable baris that are easy setup with solid customer support.
Thanks Jay. I finally decided to buy the sax. I had my eyes on an Allora ABS-550 Paris (Black Nickel) to match my Tenor that I oh so love. After thinking about the singer's day, looking at post construction and talking it over with my wife. We decided the best one to get is the Singer's day. $2400 after taxes compared to $3600 and more professionally built horn than the other that I wanted. I hope the horn arrives safe, if not I understand I can return the item. Anyway, thanks for being awesome. Now, to purchase my otto link bari mouth piece and reeds.
I want a bari so bad . Only time I even played one was at jazz improv camp and asked the kid that was playing if I could try it.I liked it and I honestly think I could adapt to it pretty well from tenor. The bari I played was a super 20, which was property of the university.
Appreciate the review… I’ve been thinking about getting a bari and re-learning how to play. Been near 40 yrs since I played but, I still miss the bari sax…
A TaiShan Winds TSBS-680 is $1500-1700. It's design is taken largely from Yanagisawa as well. However, setup time takes a while! The savings only comes in of you know how to correctly do your own setup! The Singers Day is probably setup much better.
Both sound great to me. Can hardly notice any difference. If you move the stomach pad of the sax holder to the right a bit, it can help to even out the pressure on the shoulders, when playing with the sax to the right @Better Sax
Sorry, I think I bought the last one Amazon had a couple of months ago. Other vendors occasionally put up lightly used specimens. These were $1050 to $1085USD or so when Amazon was selling them new. Budget some $$ for repairs - mine plays well enough but the neck tenon is loose even though the instrument is new. At least on my specimen, low B, Bb and A are easy to play even with the loose neck; that doesn't always happen with Chinese saxes.
That's actually my listing (used-VG). Let me know if you want anymore info. or a play test video. I can do better on the price off of amazon and the wonderful 15% commission they charge for selling musical instruments.
Time for the affordable soprano sax! Bought the Jean Paul as-400 you recommended and I love it! Looking for a straight soprano. Also that little cut you did for the singers day was dope.
So glad to finally get this video! At the same time though I'm a little bummed the bari is still so pricey. I had unrealistic hopes of what a cheap horn goes for. Probably worth pointing out to interested buyers that the excellent mouthpiece you're using is driving the enjoyable sound and will add $650 to the $2300 horn. Sigh... maybe someday. Thanks for another great vid!
Honestly from my experience. The most important factors are the player, the reeds, and of course the mouthpiece. That being said that is in regards to sound. Playability and reliability is where the extra money imo most comes into play.
I bought a secondhand Hanson Bari after a full service it took a bit of experimenting to find the right mouthpiece and reed combo. I’m set now but the most challenging aspect was finding a physical set up that was sustainable. I ended up with a Vandoren harness.
I just switched from alto to bari in my school band because we needed one however 5he one we have at the school dosnt have the lower octave key! I really need one of my own
They are really close in sound and I was wearing headphones. It seems like a good option for doublers who need a bari every now and then and can't justify the price.
Hi Jay, my 6 year-old son loves your review videos. Thank you so much! Also, I know it's absurd, but he really wants me to leave this comment for you. I quote, trying to include his emotions: "Jay, PLEASE make a Bass Sax video. It WOULD BE AWESOME! Thanks!" Good luck finding a "cheap" bass sax on Amazon to review.... Thanks again!
Nice video "Better Sax"! I've wondered about Singers Day bari saxes. How do you feel about Allora, Sakkusu, John Packer, Taishan, or Antigua Winds(Eldon)?
Every video this man makes is so entertaining and i love learning new information from ever vid, i love the bettersax worksheets too! I’ve made so much progress and improvement on my playing. Thanks Jay
Of course they sound different. The Singers Day does not have a high mass neck screw. ;) Seriously that's a great Yanagisawa copy. I would imagine a sound comparison between two legit Yanagisawa's would yield the same result as would the Singers Day comparison. Great Video Jay.
Great review! I definitely like the Yani better, Its richer and the lows are a bit more meatier, but I think I'm sold on the Singer's Day as a backup to my preferred low Bb Armstrong (Keilwerth), the price difference doesn't quite reflect the difference in quality. Perhaps tweaking the set up a bit could bring out something closer to the Yani or even something unique.
I like both. I really could not tell the difference. If you were not playing lead and just doing sustained bass while the lead cat throws some blues the Singer's Day is great. But if the Bari's leading a lot, then you ought to thing about intonation. I could not tell the difference. Also those Areophones make some good sound on Bari also. Thanks man.

thank you so much for this video. I have missed playing so badly and I have been looking for an affordable option that I can trust. Again, thanks so much!!
he reviewed a bari but didn't play the moanin' lick :(
sad
Definitely would recommend.
omg you are incredible. Finding an affordable bari seemed like an impossibility. Thank you!!
Finally I play bari and have been waiting for so long
That intro B-roll was so hot 🔥🔥🔥
I haven’t really heard any differences , you sound fat on both ! Of course interactive feelings are the most important . Great video !
Glad you chose dat grenade launcher-bazooka thumbnail , I voted for it haha
This comment made me realize just how bad music terminology would sound out of context
Yes yes yes !!! love that Bari sound !
Good luck with the new horn
This instrument is very, very underrated.
Needs more popularity!
I like the the sound of the Singer's Day.
Have Bauhaus Walstein low A and it is plays super even after 10 years. And in tune. Awesome horn
Been waiting for this video foreverrrrrrrrr
Loved the cinematic shots at the beginning.
Every Tuesday im just waiting for you to upload some content, it entertains me so much and motivates me to continue practicing everyday. Good Work!!!
thanks, I've been uploading Wednesday lately though...
A TaiShan Winds TSBS-680 is $1500-1700. It's design is taken largely from Yanagisawa as well. However, setup time takes a while! The savings only comes in of you know how to correctly do your own setup! The Singers Day is probably setup much better.
Would be nice to hear it with a smoother mouthpiece! Couldn't tell much difference between the two. How is the intonation?
The pro horn sounded a bit better on the lower notes, but I couldn't hear any other difference. Great video!
Both sound great to me. Can hardly notice any difference. If you move the stomach pad of the sax holder to the right a bit, it can help to even out the pressure on the shoulders, when playing with the sax to the right @Better Sax
Singer's Day: Knock-offs Done Right
What about Yamaha's Mark 6 knock off?
@@kroganpopy9206 I do hope that was a joke and the sarcasm just got lost in cyberspace
I don't know@@sreeser3512, was it?
I think that the yanagisawa has richer highs and punchier lows, but the singers day also has a very good tone all around.
I’m looking at the Estella BS200. It’s on amazon for 1200 USD
Abedin Subashi He should review it for sure. Seems too good to be true!
@@tomswift6198 Yeah, I had to source a new neck for mine, works great the 2nd time around. I actually bought 2 new necks for it.
Time for the affordable soprano sax! Bought the Jean Paul as-400 you recommended and I love it! Looking for a straight soprano. Also that little cut you did for the singers day was dope.
That's good to hear. I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on that same purchase, but I am so nervous.
@@Tigerblade11238 dude don't be. My only regret is not getting the silver one
My school has one of these and I play it! I bought a new mouthpiece and ligature, and I love it!
i’ve commented this before but could you maybe look at the jean paul TS-800 or AS-800 , their pro tenor and alto, thanks
I bought a year ago a lightly used P. Mauriat Pro Bari sax on EBay. LOVE THE HORN!! Of course I got it for more than half the price of a new one
used is the way to go. I go that Yanagisawa used for a steal.
I’d just recommend beginner or intermediate Yamaha models, those are great in my experience and are super fun to play
Honestly from my experience. The most important factors are the player, the reeds, and of course the mouthpiece. That being said that is in regards to sound. Playability and reliability is where the extra money imo most comes into play.
I. Miss. My. Christopher. I still have dreams about it! When I was in middle school my bari case stood up to my neck! I miss it TOO MUCH
Great song choice to demonstrate the sound! Unchain My Heart is great song for bari sax!
I bought a secondhand Hanson Bari after a full service it took a bit of experimenting to find the right mouthpiece and reed combo. I’m set now but the most challenging aspect was finding a physical set up that was sustainable. I ended up with a Vandoren harness.
they sound almost exactly the same, and its great quality! id think that the biggest difference is the build quality obviously
I loved how you showed off the sax at the beginning lol. That was awesome
I just switched from alto to bari in my school band because we needed one however 5he one we have at the school dosnt have the lower octave key! I really need one of my own
Both sound excellent. I bought an as new Yani 901 for £2000 , great bargain as a new was one was about £4200. It was during the recession.
I got my 901 for $2000 about 14 years ago. Like new condition. Was a bargain!
They are really close in sound and I was wearing headphones. It seems like a good option for doublers who need a bari every now and then and can't justify the price.
thanks man been looking for one
I have been waiting for this video for a long time
Hi Jay, my 6 year-old son loves your review videos.
Great video idea. I appreciate the analysis and really look forward to shopping for an affordable baritone sax soon!
I hear more timbrel variation with the Yanagisawa. It opens up in a way I don't hear with the Singer's Day, allowing greater expression.
Stepping up the videography, looks fantastic!
to me they sound the exact same, closing my eyes, I can't tell
I appreciate your channel soooo much! Thankyou for the superb sax reviews.😀👍👏
Nice video "Better Sax"! I've wondered about Singers Day bari saxes. How do you feel about Allora, Sakkusu, John Packer, Taishan, or Antigua Winds(Eldon)?
The Singer's Day sounded great!
Bari Sax is the best of all the saxophones. You can't change my mind.
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long. I’ve been trying to find a good budget baritone saxophone. Thank you for the post.
I am going to go back to the alto after a very, very, long hiatus. If I tried a bari, I'd sound like a love sick goose. But, they intrigue me, still.
Hi Jay. Can you please review their alto and tenor sax as well. would be of great help.
I would like a review on the jean paul bari! thanks you in advance!
The singers day sounds brighter than the 901
Every video this man makes is so entertaining and i love learning new information from ever vid, i love the bettersax worksheets too!
Yeah!!Unchain My Heart as played by Fathead from Ray Charles’ band.
The Singer’s Day doesn’t have the same deep resonance as the Yanagisawa, but other than that, it is a great horn and sounds clean and clear.
Man, the sound comes from you.
You have brought great joy to me. I can now afford the best sax lol.
Thanks man.
NO WAY I MIGHT ASK FOR THIS FOR CHRISTMAS
