Jay, Great playing, sound and backing track. You are doing great work for the saxophone community.
Thanks for the great mouthpieces!
Is there a sheet of music ? I need to play this
Ever think you were born in the wrong decade?
Deffo! Since the music we make in our band is mostly cover songs from 20's to 60's, I usually feel that some people simply don't understand the beauty of them old tunes. 🙈
Yea but then i think about the details
Yes
All the time
Wow a ballad! Misty is a such a great tune and the deep, warm tone from the bari is so good 😭
What a sweet tone. It’s one of the best baritone sax tones I’ve heard.
You better believe I’m gonna attempt this on my bass sax when it comes in
Simply beautiful performance! 🙌🏼
Thank you so much!
This kind of sound remembers me of my grandfather, a low voice, but with a so sweet voice!! Congrats, i wish to have the privillege to hear you live in my country playing in a gig!!
Wow More Baritone what a fat sound and tone goosebumps everywhere
Love it! Used to play bari in high school and Dexter Gordon's rendition of this tune is one of my favorites. Thanks for bringing the two together!
Gorgeous sound. No pyrotechnics. Just straight from the heart. Thank you Jay.
Brother when are you dropping your edition of the bari? Diggin' the horn, the interpretation, and the overall vibe of your channels. 💪🏾
I hope one day, I can just enjoy myself in my room surrounded by saxophones and a mouthpiece shelf :)
Just started bari from playing alto... im so excited to even maybe play like this one day
The high end on that Bari is sweet like Southern iced tea....mellow and just right. No harshness or thinness at ALL. Man, that's a lifegoal horn right there.
This is a stunning performance, just reminded me of why I bought a bari, that tone 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I’m also looking at a Jody Jazz HR 7*, this video has convinced me it’s a good upgrade mouthpiece. Thanks again Jay 🤙🏼
Thanks Dean
Misty's best performance on baritone sax

I play Alto, never heard a Bari played like this before especially on my fav jazz standard song
Do you know what this sounds like?
Happiness. Smooth, pure happiness.
Your music and teaching material has given me a reason to start practicing again, this time more seriously!
Nobody beats Gerry Mulligan, but Jay is pretty close.
haha thank you
Fantastic!
Sounds like tenor sax !
DAYYYUMMMM That was beeeeyooootiful!
thank you!
How am I just seeing and hearing this? Absolutely beautiful job on this Jay.
Beautiful solo. Jody Jazz HR*7 👍.
I’m loving this new channel jay!!
Thanks!
Echoes of Harry Carney, Gerry Mulligan and the great baritone sax players.
Great 👌😊 playing.
Such gracious tone and attention to melody and space 👍🏼👍🏼
Great standard and it fits best on the Bari. Jody Espina usually plays this too on his vids demonstrating this mouthpiece.
This was wonderful! I’ve said it on Instagram, but mannn this makes me really want a Bari, I may need to save up for that Singer’s day you reviewed!
Right again Mr. Metcalf! (I hope I spelled that right) thank you for the soothing music on my main sax!
I'm your 570th subscriber!!!!!
Bari sax solos are punishment for living a sinful life 😊
Another fine rendition Jay , your just blowing us away , hahaha !
I want to learn the saxophone now
Can you do a song from kenny g
which one?
Songbird
Hey sir I just applied to be a bari Sax hope I get the part
Awesome..... more Bari tunes , please.
Is there a transcription for this? I have a bari and i would really like to try this tune
A bari and amazing music. What else can you wish...
🎉🎉🎉That was amazing! You make us Bari Sax’s proud hearing you play that awesome melody. Keep it up. 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳😀😀😀
I love the baritone sax. Im studying saxophone tenor, but in the future i will start baritone. Hugs from Brazil
Wow Jay, the most beautiful ,smokey Nightclub at 2am sound I've ever heard you play. Please, please tell us how to get that sexy, Breathy sound. I can never sound like that (Yani Bari, 5c mouthpiece, Rico jazz 2.5 or Fibracell 2.25). love all your stuff!
Thanks
Awesome job Jay! Love it!
Any tips on how to play high register notes with more ease? I mean more like around that high F (i guess altissimo tips would apply as well but i'm not really interested in that currently)
Need to stay nice and relaxed in the embouchure on Bari. Let the air do the work and don't bite too much it will cut off the reed from vibrating.
Sir it was beautiful! Best hugs from Florida
Just joined the channel today Jay, bloody glad I did, thanks for more excellent sounds
Thanks and welcome
Mulligan vibe. Very nicely played.
thank you
Ok so Jay I play alto, and my tone sounds ok, do you think a better mouthpiece would help
depends on what you are currently playing. Practice helps much more than a new mouthpiece though.
Jay is this the Jody Jazz HR* mouthpiece you are playing?
Yes, Jody Jazz HR* 7
Curious... in your jody jazz bari mp comparison you really seemed to love the dv and implied it would be your go to. Yet in the vids of you playing you seem to always be using the jj HR*. Do you prefer the HR more now? Today I ordered a handful of HR*, jet, and DV to try out in 6, 7, and 8 tips. I also just got a Theo Wanne durga which I expected to like a lot more since I love my TW shiva 8* on tenor. But the durga is just not doing it for me yet on bari.
They are all great mouthpieces. I now play on the BetterSax Burnin' bari mouthpiece. I'll post some more videos here with that one.
@bettertrax5640 I thought I'd fall in live with the DV on bari. But after the trial I liked the HR* more. But after playing all side by side I ended up keeping the Theo Wanna durga. It just has something extra that I fell in love with that other mps didn't have.
One of my favorite tunes, and now one of my favorite performances of it. Sounds so awesome on the baritone too. I have not played my sax in years, and am picking it back up again. I know i should try to pick this one out by ear, but would love to see a pdf of your arrangement.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely gorgeous display of the baritone saxophone. Great job, Jay!
Beautiful sound! What mouthpiece did you use here?
Abrazo desde Argentina
Nice. Do you anyone selling a 901 Bari
Enjoy your show!
Best Wishes,
Richard Steinberg
Great performance, Jay! Masterful!
Fantastic tone, love the quality of sound in each video. Can't wait for your next video.
Thank you very much!
It’s fantastic play ! Thank You!!
lovely warm sound. I was wondering you are standing now, other videos you sit down with the bari. Do you have a specific reason for that? I notice quite some discomfort while standing, but I also see much smaller/lighter people standing with it.
yeeeeeeees i love that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What people don't see is how much air you need to get that sound. Not easy playing the bari.
Love sax. Maybe my favourite instrument. Def favourite wind. But hearing the brushes on the drums made me go full ptsd on my jazz dislike.
Are you just blowing on this one or is this a written solo? Sounds amazing, great tone
That's improvised.
You even sound great on my crappy phone. Love the sizzle of your tone 👍
Hi Jay , This Is Super and you are Top I like to hear all off this and I can Play with I too (And You Are Great A very good Saxephone Player )Okey I not hear you play like this before , only your lessen .and I love the Music Mix. Grt, Rob 🙏🙏🙏
i play tenor currently but thinking about making the switch to bari in the future
I love this version! I was wondering which audio interface you are using
UA Apollo
i recently switches over to a cannonball b7-b from an alto, i have no regrets. absolutely loved this, you inspire me
Is that a JodyJazz HR? I played one for about six years. It’s my favorite mouthpiece even though I know play a Jumbo Java
Yes HR* 7 great all around mouthpiece for bari
I’m looking at one of these mouthpieces for my bari, looks like a good fit for what I want 👍🏼
Amazing nice job as usual
3:41 classic Metcalf language 👌
This is one of my favourite tune. I always listen to Jay playing Misty, when I’m setting up for a practice session on the Bari.
the tone makes the music sound delicious if that makes any sense.
👏👏👏 wonderful, really thank you very much, from Argentina
That sound is awesome. Baris deserve to be given more oportunities to play.
Outstanding! What a good taste of music. Congrats. Keep up the good work
Superb.. listening from india
Excelente 👏👏👏
Got to say I really dug that man. Thanks for the beauty.
Man that’s like chocolate and champagne.
Beautiful sound on bari!
Beautifully done!
.....excellent....excellent.. excellent..!!!
...... Jay....a great musicman...!!!!
Is there going to be an essential standards volume 2?
Already working on it!
It's great. So beautiful voice.
Hi Jay, wow I love your sound. How about blowing, do you have to blow more than a tenor? The weight and the price are 2 other factors to consider. I bought one strait from China. A piece of junk that I paid $1200. I sold it after 3 weeks on Ebay, The price was a great deal for a baritone but if you have problems with it $1 is already too much if you can't play it.
yes bari takes more air for sure.
I unliked this, so i could like it again
Nice😊what’s the bari?
Yanagisawa 901
