"If you give it the support, you're going to get the tone". I'm going to have this crocheted on a pillow to keep in my practice room.

this helped me a lot! i've been playing bari for almost a year, switching from clarinet. this really helped me find my sound, so it doesn't sound faded whenever i play. thank you so much!

Started on Clarinet back in the 4th grade. Played that for 4 years. Mixed in Bass Clarinet, then Tenor then settled on Baritone Sax in 8th Grade only and never looked back.

I usually play Alto sax, but when my school started a Jazz Band, I really wanted to switch to Bari. It was very difficult for me to get started on bari (and I'm a small person which doesn't really help) but then I watched this video and it became much easier for me. Thank you so much!!

thank you! i’m planning on switching to bari sax after playing alto for a year because the current bari sax player in my school band is leaving, and this really helps me understand what i’m getting myself into. i’m so excited to play it!!

Thanks for this! 7th grader, and this was very helpful to prepare me for the coming year, where I’ll be learning to play it.

Ive learned that the C* selmer is pretty much the perfect all around mouth piece for every style, not saying its the BEST for every style, just that is works well for every style

I’m transitioning from Alto to Bari and it’s been tough partly to do with the physical set up - I’ve now got a Vandoren harness which has made a big difference. It’s taken months to work out reed strength too (using mp Yamaha 5) I’ve settled on Legeres 2.5 Am cut.

I switched from baritone to clarinet (no, not the other way around), and I can tell you that's quite a transition as well! ;-)
One thing I struggled with in the beginning is how little air (not support, but air flow) the clarinet takes, compared to a bari sax. I really had to unlearn my breathing habits.
In the meantime I picked up the baritone again though.

Thanks for this share! Q: When playing low notes like the low b flat, are you practicing playing legato e.g. without tonguing the start of the note? Thanks for reading my q!

Baritones come in 2 sizes. Low Bb and Low A. Even though its one of the lowest saxophones, many professional musicians can play the high altissimo register. James Carter and John Surman can play the extreme high register.
