In fact, I get very suspicious of a rescue organization if they only let people see their successes, never their losses. For you, losing 3 baby elephants in succession must have nearly broken your hearts....thank you so much for being their loving companions til the end!

I literally cried for an hour after watching this movie. The music, the scenes, the little faces, the heartbreak was unbearable. I cannot handle these things so I don't know why I even watched the video in the first place but this was just so, so sad.

Having worked hospice I found that being with a dying person is an honor, helping them thru this time. I hope the keepers feel that it is an honor to help a baby at this time in their short lives. I wish I could think like you, it would help with the feeling of despair when i watch videos like these. I feel that there is maybe something I could have done, given more money or spread the word more to others. Maybe if they were able to find them sooner. And then I think about what goes on in the little baby's minds when they are going through this pain.....it....just makes me break down.

I think, is there no public service system that could blast that information across the air waves, telling people never to do that? It must be very hard on the keepers that 50% are dying, and I do hope that they know people appreciate their efforts, and that their job hold so much honor. It would be so very hard on me to know my efforts were in vain.
Jumpy, I've worked in animal rescue for over thirty years and I've come to several conclusions. There will never be enough time or money or people to solve these issues. There will always be injured, sick and tortured animals because of the cruelty of people. There will always be thousands of "what ifs". And I torture myself with all these thoughts. But we care and this is worth something. Education and awareness are the most important actions we can take.

I always think of just myself not making a difference and there are nearly not enough people out there that think for the benefit of helpless animals. THAT is what also bothers me, education helps but there will always be the heartbreaking stories and videos like these of the animals that weren't reached in time.
Cindy Munger I really hope its not 50% mortality rate among these babies. That seems like a really high number to me, no? But you're right, I wish there was a way to communicate more effectively. Alas that is not possible and you have situation where animals don't get the help they need.
Heartbreaking! It must be so hard to lose these babies after going to such great lengths to save them after their individual ordeals. I would imagine that the separation from their mothers would affect their will to fight for life, despite your best efforts to heal and nurture them. I get some small comfort, as should you all DSWT, that their last days were spent surrounded by love in the wonderful environment of the nursery. With other baby elephants around them for reassurance. As much as I love the wonderful, determined and relentless work you do, it always saddens me that they end up with you, as it means they have lost their mothers in one traumatic way or another. But I know that, despite the discomfort of their sickness, you would have made them feel as loved, cared for, and comfortable as they could possibly be. The alternative, of them dying alone, with no hope or love, in the wild, is unbearable. So thank you to all of you amazing people at DSWT! You are all incredible human beings that must find it so hard to know that you simply cannot save EVERY baby that comes to you. But you do your utmost to try, and I love you for that. I visited Tsavo in 1975 when there were still large elephant herds roaming completely wild, along with some tiny babies. I cannot imagine anybody who calls themselves a human being doing anything to hurt these wonderful magnificent & intelligent animals. Baby elephants are probably one of the most endearing of all because of their very strong, playful & individual personalities. They are so dependent on their mothers that separation is totally devastating for them & some die of heartbreak if they don't receive the proper care. Fortunately the Sheldrake family in Kenya have found probably the best formula for hand rearing these little creatures so that they can be reared to become normal healthy adults. Barely short of miraculous.
Omg it’s so sad for all 3, every orphan baby elephants y’all rescued had a story ..sad but happy ending for those pulled through ! Omg Kerio loves the keeper...followed them. II’m so sad for Kerio. I shed hundreds tears for Kerio ..I can see Kerio wants to get better ! Rest In Peace Kerio no more heartache and suffering!!

Omg Kerio loves the keeper...followed them. II’m so sad for Kerio. I shed hundreds tears for Kerio ..I can see Kerio wants to get better ! Rest In Peace Kerio no more heartache and suffering!!
