Ndotto is my foster baby. All of the orphans are so very precious, but something about Ndotto touched me deeply. He was so tiny, yet so tough. Everyone at DSWT are genuine heroes. If you have the funds, fostering one of these precious little miracles is very rewarding.

I fostered him yesterday...Been waiting for this for months, so glad he pulled thru, but sad that so many others do not...He's my 2nd now, Kauro is my 1st so I am now mummy to 2 elles.....Pride....My herd is growing.....Slowly....I'd foster + protect every one of them worldwide if I could....I too cry shamelessly within about 10 seconds of these....I was a gibbering wreck by the time I had finished....Bless them....

My guess, as the same for some other cases I've read about, is he wasn't very good on his feet. So the mother, or most likely the matriarch, (leader) of the group made the decision to move on and he couldn't keep up. The herd is more important than a newborn, that they feel will only die. I am sure it is a hard decision to make. As they are very emotional creatures. It is possible he just couldn't navigate the terrain fast enough. The exact reason we will never know. He probably wandered for a long time and came across the tribes herd and mingled with them for comfort, which in the end was a good thing. My own foster elephant Kamok was left behind as well. She to had wobbly legs in the beginning too.
J0J02007 It is thought he was premature because of his size and the fact that his first teeth came in two months after other baby elephants, so it is possible he just couldn't get to his feet in time before the herd had to move on. It is indeed fortunate that he was rescued, and what a lovely baby he is!
+J0J02007 the story is he was 2 months premature. the birth sack was next to him - a herder and his cattle startled the mother whilst giving birth and she took off. the calf warbled to its feet and joined the herd of cattle. its documented on the dswt website. he is the rarest of the rare orphans and today @ 14 months he's still shorter than most 2 month olds but is fat as a beech ball.

Ndotto became very fortunate that some kind people took care of him until he could be rescued by Sheldrick. His keepers kept very close watch & loved him so he could grow up with a big personality ❤😊❤
I will work hard for these babies since I can’t physically be there to help them. They break my heart....Donations is my solution in order for these experts I counted on to represent me to look after them for them. Sorry babies forgive us.......we are so sorry!
