I thought this video was going to go a lot differently. Here is the full story on the Desperado boat I just bought. I had the boat for 10 hours and when I got to the marina to bring it home, it was destroyed. The windows were smashed, lines cut, and equipment stolen. This is definitely not how I thought this project would start, but we're going to get through this.

Luke, I'm a small business owner in the area. I have a small crane that I operate daily. If you need help lifting out the engine, reach out. No charge.
Props sir, I hope others can help too. This young man just is trying to make a living and I hate this happened to him.
@paulforbes8551 good stuff brother 👏
A friend with a crane is a very good friend indeed.
See you in a future video
@@melvinsmiley5295 You're a real stand up kind of guy to make an offer to Luke like this! Good man indeed!
This was very clearly, obviously done by someone Billy knows. Either a worker he fired, or promised to give the boat too or something. Billy knows exactly who did this.
Plot twist: Billy-“if I can’t have her then no one will!”
Bummer about the boat but I agree that someone Billy knows did it, whether he knew or not.
100%
Exactly ,This isn't a coincidence. Probably a competitor who knows insurance might not be there. Maybe Billy will rip up the sale and his insurance will cover it??? If he's nice.
@@PINION1976 facts, exactly what I thought
This was my first thought. A past worker or someone that wanted to buy it.
I was L.E. for 20 yrs and just retired a P.I. company of 23 yrs. Billy has knowledge of who did this. A good investigation will reveal the facts. Good luck!
I agree , Billy had Knowledge , but it was not him.. It was another Potential Buyer and the deal went south . the other buyer either could not raise the money or something else ..I dont believe the " he owed somebody Money" theory ..this was another potential buyer , who could not handle a No .
Hey luke, I'm originally from the area & out of respect for the person who told me this I wont share their name however I believe the culprits are Billys former deckhands who vandalized the boat after being promised part of the business.
That's exactly what I feel too or the Previous owner himself
Someone knew the exact time to do it. Only a 2 hour window is a bit of a coincidence
Well the deck hands hurt the innocent guy not the guy they have grudge against so what's the logic and their justification for doing what they did?
My guess, who you bought it from owes people money 😮
@@blast-it-x2398 Yeah same, the former owner doing it is a unnecessary risk. However the guy who owned the boat may have owed someone money, that could be former employees, or anyone else the guy could've owed money too.
Luke, while I’m sure you have thought about this (hopefully) but if not please take this advice:
Throughout your rebuild of this boat DOCUMENT everything. Be sure to create detailed and clean schematics of everything especially the electrical system. It will pay huge dividends when you go to have it reinspected for your COI. You are going to have to have a ton of documentation for all of the changes and renovations. I’m a captain not too far (top of the bay) and willing to help with anything. Had a previous career as an electrical engineer so when I’m not running hunts this winter or between splits I’m happy to help with whatever you need.
Good stuff Otto. I used to run my own crab boat back in the day and also close by and offer voluntary help to get the boat back up and any other help you need.
You sound like an awesome dudes 👍.
Cool of you I hope he sees this comment and takes u up on the offer
You guys close and posting to help are over the top stand up guys. You've got to let me buy you lunch one day when doing a "work party" to get him up and running.
I will help too, but im in MA.
The previous owner is 100% involved, Either directly or indirectly . He knows something.
100%
I would add it could be completely innocent on his part. I’m sure the previous owner struggled with making the decision to sell so he’s probably talked about it. But the timing is definitely suspicious.
That’s why he left him and his face in the video… karma will get him….
Probably someone he was gonna sell to at some point and something happened.
The old owner for sure took everything out of it
As a Professional Investigator for 16 years the previous owners body language is totally off during your interaction. If you want Luke, you can send me the raw video footage of your interactions with him or his staff and I would totally be willing to analyze everything for FREE. You are a good dude and this makes me fuming mad.
DO THIS
I'm thinking your right. The previous boat owner either knows who did it. Or was part of it.
BUMP
The guy was steering the boat, you’re reaching.
I said the same thing in the last video before I even seen the original owner. The fact that he didn’t have gas in his truck to come to Luke made me think he’s broke and would come take the things out of the boat he could get money for. Or he owed his crew money, they found out he was selling it and said F this were going to take what we can out of it for the money we’re owed. Seems like an easy case for the police.
I think the previous owner should be investigated, the biggest clue for me is how many people knew you bought the boat before the incident. I know how you feel and hope you get enough support from your community to restore that boat.
took the words out of my mouth before i got a chance to say it. its awefully suspicious as you say. you buy a boat and the very night somebody shows up, parks outside of camera range to get a good picture of the truck or a tag, rips it all out and then bounces and not a single person seen or heard anything and not a single finger was pointed immediately. I think old boy that sold you his stuff had either promised somebody else the sale, or owed somebody money and you lost out so they could take payment. who knows, for all you know the gear was on loan and wasnt allowed to go with the boat had it been sold and the owner sold it being shady and the leasee took claim of theyre gear back. but the vandalism doesnt make sense had that been the case
Yea definitely worth looking into but it could have been someone who wanted to the boat and then happened to see him out test driving the boat and knew he bought it. Really hard telling, but I don’t believe the previous owner had any idea or doings in what happened. Unless it was a previous deckhand that was mad he sold the boat or something crazy like that.
Was thinking the same. If it wasn't him and you don't suspect him himself, very likely he told someone close to him who wanted the boat and couldn't afford it
@@triplehfarmsllc7348 Agreed that boat took a passionate beating for a good amount of time and in these cases it's typically a p*ssed off family member that felt they should have got it or some chance at getting it.... or as you said a deckhand/hands, that had dreams of owning the ol gal and is completely slighted over no chance of ever owning it. The previous owner made out/got what he wanted and had a pocket full of money so that wouldn't be the typical response the night after making a good sale.
The other options I see is a upset loan shark or something over the space it was docked in.... in any which way I suspect it was people not on good standing with the pervious owner rather than the previous owner (but could be wrong).
The comments about random thieves don't even hold weight in my mind as they typically don't want to create a spectacle, that typically only happens with young kids and those old enough to drive (not young bucks) just want to get in and out as quietly as possible with the items.
mb for the ramble... yes I agree 😆
Pretty crazy how he did all of this for a better help advertising opportunity 😊
The owner probably promised his deck hands a shot at buying the business, he got tired of waiting for them to come up with the money, sold the boat to Luke and they were PISSED!
this makes the most sense vs saying the owner the suspect.. the owner made a big payday.. now maybe ex dec hands or may bitter jaded family members that wanted the boat but daddy wouldn't give it to them.. etc
I would think they should be looking into this theory.
@@JDski Oh, they are..😎
Look out oink panther is on the case😂
Or the owners son (if applicable) didn't like his inheritance being sold.
Hate to say it but the dude you bought it from knows everything
There's no shot the previous owner doesn't know who did this shit. No other boats destroyed and suddenly the day after he buys the boat it gets destroyed. RIGHT!
There were a lot more people who knew the person who sold it and the business than who bought it if a captain sold a boat from under a crew they were probably not too happy.
I live down the bay in Mathews Co. Va. They pull that on the watermen down here they’d be crab pot bait. These boys don’t play down here. Sorry it happened to ya Luke, hope they get caught & prosecuted to the fullest.
The guy you bought the boat from was probably telling people he sold the boat to you and they went and targeted you and your new boat. Sorry Luke!
Agree it was the old crew who did this. Lost their jobs. Great chance one of them has a truck with light bar. What a shame.
I’ve spent money on here one time before to support the parents of a 15 year old that drowned in a lake at a campground. I’m proud to say I’ve just spent money once again for a “good as used” t shirt for this guy. Every young American should have this man’s work ethic !!!
Previous owner knows 100%. Hire a lawyer to Subpoena phone records from the previous owner, his previous & current crews and surrounding boat owners & crews along with any other enemies of yours. Use ad tracking to find what phones were at that dock between the hours it was damaged and it will lead you directly to the vandals.
Send lawsuits to all suspects even if you don't have evidence. People start singing when they have a pending lawsuit against their name/ business & when they need to pay out of their own pockets for defense lawyers. Drop lawsuits to anyone willing to comply with the identification and prosecution of the vandals.
This!
Did you not hear Luke say how much he bought this boat for, and how long he'd bin saving for?
Do you think he's got money just floating around to spend on lawsuits?
Filing papers are not cheap, and to hire a lawyer to do that paperwork is crazy expensive.
That said, I support your thoughts. I just know he can't afford it
@@Eric-gi9kgfiling a lawsuit is absolutely free as long as you find an attorney willing to take on your case. They get paid a percentage from the lawsuit settlement unless they have to go to trial then it’s by the hour.
@@RKSAINT Yeah, attorneys take cases against people with deep pockets, not lowlife scum.
@@RKSAINT The old owner couldn’t even afford gas to meet Luke halfway... You think a lawyer is going to work for free pursuing someone like that? This will definitely cost Luke a lot of money if he wants to take legal action and there is no guarantee he will get any money back.
This really feels like the old owner of the boat had his crew come back after he knew you left. He was the only other one who knew when you weren’t going to be there. So sorry brother! I will be purchasing crabs next week from you to support!
Was thinking the same thing
😢I was thinking the same shiii😢
Or Billy did not pay his crew and they cameback and done this.
why though. What does he benefit by trashing the boat?
Think it might be the old boots crew or a craber that wanted it but not for the price and got pissed he dident get it

Luke: I am local to you (within an hour drive) and I'm offering help. I have a Millermatic 252 and an equally decent Lincoln stick/tig machine. I don't know how to reach out to you offline privately or directly. If you know someone who can weld I'm happy to lend you a welder. If not (absolutely no charge) I'm happy to drive to you and help you out. My wife and I are moving shortly and I have some hydraulic pumps I need to get rid of. One is single/split phase I think Baldor brand 120/240v 1.5hp and the other is I think Delta Rockwell 208Y 120/208 I think 5hp? Yours if you need them. You'd have to pay cost for materials but I have a buddy who can make lines, crimp fittings, bend solid lines, etc.
Feel free to reach out, I'm happy to help.
What a man
I used to live up there and I can speak with some truth in the matter. I don't think they were after you purr say. I think they were trying to hurt the guy who sold you the boat. I also don't expect him to help you catch the people who did this to you. IF he doesn't out right know who did this, he has a pretty good idea who does. He's rotten at the core. And the thing is he's going to try and play it off on you. Look at where they parked and what they did. They knew how to get away with it. But there's not a lot of dark trucks with the light bar. Look for local boys with said truck. It will be a short list. Then find out how many of them the old owner knew. You will probably have the guys who did this. I'd bet hard money it was a friend, if not a member of his family. He doesn't care one little bit that it happened to you.( The old owner).
I just read a few of the comments. I'm not LE, or anything. But the people who broke into my house where people I once called my friends. Never could prove anything to the law but that doesn't mean I let them walk away either.....
I am not local but I would love to offer my labor for free. I'll even pay my own way there.
It's unfortunate that the other crabbers targeting you fail to understand that you're helping them too. With your videos, posts, and articles in international publications like the BBC (which is how I discovered you), you're bringing positive attention to the Chesapeake Bay crabbing industry. You're educating viewers on the trials and tribulations of being a waterman and encouraging those of us that enjoy blue crabs and other seafood to support the men and women that work so hard to put that seafood on our tables. In the short and long term, your efforts do nothing but GOOD for *everyone*. I do sincerely hope that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing your incredibly unique story with the world!
You don't get it. I live in the Keys, most Captains I know are Assholes. They're very competitive, cut throat and used to being literal Lords on their boats. It goes back to Britain and Maritime law, the Captain's word is law. I used to charter a good fishing captain several times a year. He knew where the fish were, but used crappy lures. One trip I brought a couple expensive Islander lures, because I knew they'd out fish his baits. The mate gladly rigged them and all day long, the Mahi, Wahoo and Tuna kept hitting the two Islanders ignoring the Captains choice rigs. All day long the mate commented on how great the Islander lures were, the fish weren't hitting anything else, he'd used them in Hawaii and loved them. They caught a ton of fish, more than usual. Heading back toward dock at days end, that captain chagrined I upstaged his fishing "Knowledge" stopped the boat pretending he saw something in the water and backed over the lines cutting off all the lures, even his own. He wrapped the lines from a six rod spread around his prop just to destroy my Islanders. Back at the dock, he hired a diver to clear the lines. That's how much of an Asshole he was. I'm sure some of the Captains are good people, but, overall at least here in the Florida Keys, they're not to be trusted.
My wife and I think you and your wife are amazing young people. Your work ethic is so refreshing and not like a lot of your generation bravo young man

Just an opinion. The guy you bought from is 100 percent involved. Nobody else knew except you and him and the boat was targeted. They also knew about the plate reader which is why they parked elsewhere. Previous owner knows who did it
I have to agree 100%
Agree 100% definitely involved
Low life's have some electronics to fence. Snoop around some of the local pawn shops and see if anything looks familiar

Not sure if the guy that sold you the boat had workers. Maybe they didn't like losing their jobs.
Or are owed $$$
I would bet the owner knows who did that.
Most marine insurance only covers the vessel for maritime accidents. Running around, sinking, tearing up running gear on the bottom etc. Unless you had some specialized and agreed policy, this wouldn’t have even been covered by the typical policy, one other problem is many boat insurance companies will not even insure older vessels. I had to shop around to even find one that would insure an 80’s 43’ sportfish. You can have a lm older hull completely redone from the bottom up with brand new power and every screw and they will not insure it for even book value. You need specialized insurance.
@@williamhamill813I agree it was personal I would bet it was someone that helped build or built the dipper set up and wasn’t paid for it or felt like they were taken advantage of.
It was someone he went and showed off that 70,000 to and they possibly felt like they should have gotten some of it.
They should go buy a boat then. If they get caught no real man gonna hire bunch of weirdos. Trash does this. Not men.
Though it is a blow, it is a good thing that happened. From a similar experience (almost identical), this gives you the perspective to take you time and strip her down to her bones and build her the way you want her.
Benefits:
You got the hull you want.
You have a solid power plant and running gear.
You maybe have some extras that you didn't have before, i.e. dipper.
Lastly, you're not as pressured to get her up and running to recover expense and fighting or chasing problems leftover from previous owners. For example, the broomstick fuel gauge (though is traditional fuel gauge on almost every boat I have been on), add an actual fuel gauge in your gauges.
Gut her, take her down to the hull and bring her back up with new/refreshed. This way you know what is there and you're not chasing problems left over from previous owners.
Keep plugging away.
So many good people in these comments local to you willing to help you out. That says a lot about your character!
But still a risk, never know if one or more may or may not have been involved.
Good luck brother
❤
I really hope they find the lowlifes that did that to your new boat. I agree with everyone else that the guy you bought the boat from needs to be interrogated and any people he has used as crew needs to be questioned.

Damn. Your voice changed some about this boat. You sound hurt, but you're not giving up. I'd 100% watch videos of you rebuilding this boat.
I feel for you. Had my boat ripped apart two years ago, and lots of gear and electroncis got stoolen, along with my engine. My boat is a lot smaller, but the experince is the same i would emagine. Hope the scumbags gets caught.
Triumphant would be the perfect name. You’re not going to allow these undesirables to keep you down Luke, you will rebuild and come back even stronger and show them what it means to be a real water man! We don’t quit when times get hard, we buckle down harder and make the impossible possible!
Luke stay strong, Never Stop!
Here's my 2 cents worth! The guy you bought it from needs to be looked at very seriously. This smells like something a former owner who doesn't want to see his dream in someone's else's hands or that he owed someone money!
The former owner is not innocent!
I wounder if it was somone that got outbid by you for the boat.
Luke and Lindsey, I pray you get everything put back better than ever!! I pray for y’all daily.
Hey Luke I work for my father as a locksmith in timonium, Pimlico Key Service if you need a new key once everything gets taken cared of don’t hesitate to stop by or reach out can always help. Can bend the key back and cut you some fresh keys.
in the end you will be the one who will thrive, good attitude and just a shame that it happened, feel for you kid, dont stop fighting good luck
Rest easy...because what goes around comes around...it might take a long time..but it comes around
It sure does!
💯
Oh I almost forgot to Say Congratulations on your Crabbing License Lindsey 🎉🎉

You have a great attitude and I appreciate you sharing. We all go through things and some can’t deal with problems
Luke, you are right. This truly can be a blessing in disguise. You have a fantastic foundation to rebuild your boat on. If you really think about it, that boat has not been taken care of at all. In the sense you are going to keep this forever, this gives you the opportunity to tear all the junk out and rebuild it for the long term. It is a blank canvas and you have the opportunity to design it and set it up to work the way that you like to work. Since you have the Southern Girl to continue to drive revenue, you have the ability to take your time and build this back right. Just looking at it myself, I can see that there are are a lot of things on the old boat that need to be changed. This is your golden opportunity to do that. If this didn’t happen, maybe you’d have tried to nurse it along and had to try and overcome its shortcomings. I really wish that I still lived in Maryland because I would love to come out and help you with the rebuilding process. The bottom line is that you have an amazingly beautiful boat that will provide an incredible foundation for the improvements that you want to make.
In terms of names, I would name it phoenix. Because the phoenix is the symbol for rising out of the ashes to become greater than before. I wish you and Lindsey all the best, and I will continue to cheer you on and support you in every way that I can.
Luke, I've enjoyed your channel, I think, 3 years now. What's kept me watching your channel is your "let's get it done" attitude. You are my boys' age, which at least to me makes me cheer in your corner. Please don't let this be what changes you from who you are. In case you are struggling with positivity within. Your intuitive ingenuity is far beyond your years. And might I add, you have a beautiful wife! We love you guys. Chin up chest out! All the best wishes to y'all.
Great advice!
Love your content. Its not much but hope this helps
❤
Some people suck. That's a line my old man has used forever. Your channel popped up today. All subscribed and rooting for you. You seem genuine and nice. Hopefully, the karma police will come for the humans.
On the bright side, it was obviously meant to be that you resurrect this new boat and put it together from scratch and after all that you've been able to really put EVERYTHING you got into your dream Luke. If anyone can do this it's YOU dude, you got this man and got a ton of people behind you 💪
You had me dying of laughter when you showed the crab baskets and the tools and said they didn’t steal these because that would require them to actually go to work and make a living 😂
Sorry about your boat man. I hope you guys catch them
THIS YOUNG MAN IS AMAZING!!!!! I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ALL THE SUCCESS YOU HAVE COMING THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
I'm so sorry that they did that to your boat. I know you will make it better then before.
I feel sick for you. I have a hate filled bully neighbour who has been harassing me for six years. I know all too well how it messes with your head. You're such a good man Luke. I truly hope they catch these people.
Definitely think previous owner has pissed somebody off, it seemed dodgy that he didn't even have money for fuel when arranged to drop deposit off.
I thought that was fishy too. And Luke had to go do the deal in the middle of the night. A seller like that was likely in talks with other cash buyers. Its either the scoured buyer, old crew or his local hater. Previous owner knows probably who- he's prob trying to play innocent/neutral but he was negligent with info he shared w someone who lead to this happening
Same thing I think.
Thanks
❤❤❤
I hate it when young people have a real go being hurt. My heart goes out to you
