We've had a lot of rain this summer and every time it rains the Conowingo Dam opens it's drains to let water out. When this happens it drains 1,000s of pounds of trash to the Chesapeake Bay. This trash isn't just destructive to the environment, but also to the boats that use the Chesapeake Bay. I have spent $1,000s on repairs to my boat from trash that I have sucked up or hit. If you ever see trash while boating, please pull it out of the water.

My brother is a PE structural engineer in Glen Burnie currently working on the new dam and the solutions Luke. Don’t worry he’s the smartest guy I know, he’ll fix it. His father in law is a local commercial crabber, we gon clean it up just takes a ton of time and money inside all the red tape!

To Luke's point, it would be nice if they can clean up that junk while it's stopped at the dam...before it just gets flushed into the Bay. The Chesapeake isn't a toilet...but they're treating it like one. Hope your brother can help them do something about that! (The crabs, crab cakes & people who eat them will be grateful 😄!)

Debris is a massive problem. Unfortunately it starts here around major rivers around cities that can’t keep up with the rain or trash and it all drains into the major waterways and heads out. As someone that was raised to always “leave a place better than when you found it” it’s always so draining to see the new generation less responsible and less educated. Some of us are caretakers, and some could care less..unfortunately it’ll always be the hardest to change one into another.

In that space that you were talking about at the stand, you could put a chest refrigerator like they have at bars with a slide open tops. Then you could keep crabs cold and prepackaged. Even an old ice cream holding freezer could work. Then you can just take them out and hand them to the customers. Then the crabs stay cold so they’re more likely to survive. Also, if you can find a deal on a commercial ice maker, you could keep that at your house so you don’t have to buy ice on those hot days.

Salt and ice cream go together well. This is why many people enjoy dipping their Wendy's fries in a Softee. However for me the best combination is one my Dad ate a lot when I was a kid which was pretzels dipped in ice cream. The pretzel needs to be thick enough that it won't snap easily and the ice cream needs to soften up for a few minutes but that combo of a good pretzel and vanilla ice cream is so simple and delicious.

Regulations are the entire reason your fishery didn't collapse in the 80s. The entire point of the license and catch limit is to give them a more accurate estimate of how much of the population is removed, then correlating that to the dredge report.

Something not for sale on the merch store or whatever. Would be really cool to have a memento that says like [crab stand] (current year), have it stamped out of some old tags or metal ribbon or something and have it available to buy. Remember when Herring used to come up into all these creeks? My grandfather used to take the prisoners from Lorton prison fishing. They'd catch their own food. It was a working farm for years. Not sure when the dam was built. But I'd guess it wasn't up when he was taking them fishing. He'd tell me you could just dip the net and fill it up! He loved the roe! Breakfast, some bacon and some herring roe! 😂 he loved that suff! Yuck for me.

We are thinking of driving to Florida from CT and want to get some crabs on our return trip. I can't get soft crabs up here and miss them after being in N.C. in April. They were great!

Imagine this: All the neighborhood dogs crap in your front yard. It's a mess. Then the HOA fines the homeowner--not the dog owners. The dam isn't the problem. The pollution is coming from the upper watershed, which the dam owners have no ability to control. Shouldn't the upper watershed pay to clean up their pollution?

Don't know about east coast bay fishing but here in west coast we run keel coolers on the boats, also with you kill box you could add refrigerated sea water set of coils and a a/c pump you wouldn't have to buy ice anymore. With your trap tank you have hydros why not run hydraulic pumps to feed your tank?

You should buy some massive huge magnets to drag behind (OLE GAL --- WEEBO) and see what kinda goodies you end up coming across. Look at it this way, you'd be cleaning up the bay one drag at a time and then whatever metal comes up attached to the magnet you can add to a pile and either keep for future projects or get a scrap pile going to take to the recycling center and then use that money to put back into the boat that you have to restore unfortunately sooner than later but you'll have a little bit of funds to go into it to help out

High wind will throw plastic paper etc in the water which will be sucked up by the boats water engine intake and over heat the engine. That happened to my boat. I use to have a 24ft SeaRay with dual engine
