I've never seen anyone explain this as thorough yet in an easy to understand way. The double keyboard graphic puts it over the top. Jonny, simply brilliant!!!
Johnny, your teaching is top-notch. Thank you for your lessons. A lot of theorists stick to the beginner or intermediate stuff, but you are one of the few that delves into the meaty stuff, yet do it in a way that appears to be beginner. The mark of a master.
10 minutes to explain what nobody has been able to decrypt for me in 30 years. Love ya Johnny! Going to look into your full-length courses. Keep it up, you’re really helping me make the leap to pro!
THE best lesson. Why? - Because anyone can understand and anyone can play these unexpectedly wonderful "colors" sounding like a pro, - sounding years beyond your basic chord progressions. All you have to do is watch.. perhaps a couple of times over until it all clicks in, - but at 16 minutes per view it is super easy to digest and so worth your time. Then say: "Thank you". As the people listening to your performance certainly will !!
I'm a guitarist first with only a passing interest in piano. But your lessons are so straightforward and clear, I still prefer them for learning and experimenting with theory. Keep up the good work :>
Love how the jargons of music theory are unravelled step by step with each melodious sounding chords. I finally understand and appreciate what chord voicings are with one simple sentence reinforced with examples. Thank you.
Johnny you are Top Man. You explain everything and it is so inspiring. Your teaching is superb as is your playing. I just love watching your videos and your enthusiasm is so very infectious. Keep up the fantastic lessons. Top Man.
The idea of categorising voicings of a specif types of chord by which note is on top of the chord, is very useful for me. I have long sought a way of categorising extended voicings, beyond the obvious forms. It seems a good way forward to have one vocing for every top note (3rd, fifth, root) in your muscle memory.
You are such an excellent teacher. I don't want to take up your time with my story. But these lessons, especially this one, come along at a perfect time for me. I hope whatever you need will be yours.
I don't know if it's on purpose or not, but your screen said "further from the 'turth'" instead of "truth". Made me chuckle. Great tutorial as it always is with Jonny!
Thank you Johnny I truly enjoyed this lesson today it open my mind about extensions I did overstaying a bit about what they are ,but you made me look at it differently looking at it all in one hand thank you so much keep up the good work ✔️😌✨️
Outside the scope of this video but #11 extensions (note the sharp) work well on major chords, the reason why 11 chords don't work well on major chords is that you have the clash between the 3 and the 11 (which is just 4) which are a semitone apart. If you sharpen the 11 to #11 you solve that problem and get a cool chord.
Its almost embarrassing I didn't figure this out myself. Also, I see you're mashing two notes at once with your thumb. Finally I get to do on purpose what I've been doing accidently for 40 years.
Funny how in the beginning I'm literally opposite. I'm the opposite of pro. Opposite of knowing what I do. Able to produce amazing chords just by hearing it. (subjective? perhaps.) Not being able to do anything else with it.

Great job Johnny! After 20 years never understanding music theory, the puzzle pieces are finally coming together.

Absolut great! Clear explanation. Very well done: Keep it up!
Eleven months later. I lost everything. Built it back. Here I am again relearning. It's easier the second time, but no less amazing. Thank you again!

❤the best piano teacher in the world
Thank you.
amazing lesson !!!
so use the 9 and/or 13 if the third of the base chord is major, and use the 9 and/or 11 if it's minor?

Jonny can you send for me the altered chord and how to use them to the progressions
Wow ❤

You are the best
Love It,,,
Slick
How can I get it written ?
@13:53 where's the minor 3rd? thx
Hi
I didn’t know Ralf Fiennes was into music theory
These chords don’t sound that good. But then again I didn’t make that face while I was playing..😂
🤣

I'm the opposite of pro.
Opposite of knowing what I do.
