This is what I have been looking for for years. Please do a selection of intro runs as no-one seems to disclose their secrets.haha. Thankyou. You're the best.
Hi from a full time jazz and classical pianist .. Really fun run ! I like the rhythmic asymmetry ( group of 6, then 5). I think a certain amount of asymetry draws in the listeners ear : just as a certain amount of dissonance does. I just sat down at the piano and am trying this out in a downward 6 then 5 pattern ( though with slightly different intervals) and am liking the sound. This concept sounds REALLY pretty (upwards and downwards) with the melodic minor scale ! Thanks for the idea Jonny !
Would it be a good idea to mention that just to get this fingering" in your hands " its a good idea to learn to tap the sequencing away from the piano on a table top , tell the students to tap those finger patterns over and over until you can at least physically do the task , they will find it VERY difficult , just tapping right hand from thumb to pinky sequentially , smoothly is very tricky and can take weeks of practice
this is pretty nice, i use a similar phrase but starting on the 3rd and 7th, instead of using the 1 and 5 as the thumb positions, very cool and versatile!
I've been searching for a while now and really can't find it. Jonny, what is the software you are using to show every note on your screen? Having the green notes light up whenever you play them with the letter of the note? I really want to know! :)
Yeah mostly. He is doing Lydian of course in the first major part. Why not just be a Collier and do Ultra mega hyper Lydian though and impress your friends
If I were playing in C for and my half-diminished was a dm7b5 for example, I would start at D playing the C Ionian (or in this case D Dorian) scale BUT making sure to include the non-diatonic notes from the half-diminished chord ie all the white notes plus the Ab. Johnny will probably tell you a very different way, but that works nearly all the time for me, and I don't have to memorise anything specific. Let me know what you think...
@@frederickkk1985 Very welcome! I hope it works for you. I was getting frustrated with people always telling me to play the diminished scale; but was it half-whole or whole-half? Through experimentation, I found this. Thanks for appreciating my unorthodox reply!

Myxolydian (a standard 'church mode') is a DOMINANT scale. 5th scale degree to 5th scale degree in any 'major' key.

It's like the end of the Columbia logo intro music at the beginning of movies.
love you sir You are so awesome. I really want to meet you. God bless you

Jonny, thanks so much for this. As you say it’s a magical sound - Ravel would have loved it wouldn’t he? Just hope I don’t overuse it now and ruin it.

Well, Lydian
❤
Woah it's lydian!
Would you recommend a notation program?
So the lydian with major keys and Dorian with minor keys, correct?
100/100💌
I can play triplets, I can even do a fivelet, but no way am I going to do a 44-let. Insane.
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
this is the magic of the lydian scale.
edit: sorry for the confusion, i just wanted to make a popular comment quick
the magic of Lydian
you can also make a run with Phrygian if you’re crazy
Yeah mostly. He is doing Lydian of course in the first major part. Why not just be a Collier and do Ultra mega hyper Lydian though and impress your friends
It’s not whole tone
yeah i know, i didn’t bother to watch the whole video, so i didn’t know it was lydian
i just wanted to make a popular comment.
What scale do you play on a half diminished chord?
If I were playing in C for and my half-diminished was a dm7b5 for example, I would start at D playing the C Ionian (or in this case D Dorian) scale BUT making sure to include the non-diatonic notes from the half-diminished chord ie all the white notes plus the Ab.

@@seanonel 🔝❤ not knowing what to do, I play the notes of the semi diminished chord with the extensions .. thanks for the reply!

I guess, you might be an ELP-fan.
"Just take a pebble"
"Quick tip" proceeds to do a 15 minute episode explaining from the basics. Dude, I feel bad for just reading the partiture and leaving the video.
What are you talking about. He shows it at the beginning. Also, do you not know how to use the ff?
Youve not mentioned the second time you hit C group , you dont hit C twice , please explain to the viewers
C lidian! What? What on earth is that? Not for beginners is it.
This post explains this in-depth! pianowithjonny.com/piano-lessons/the-ultimate-piano-run-the-magic-run/
F sharp not G flat.
tomato tomahto
I don’t like the way it sounds. Too complex and not musical.
Marvellous !!!... Thanks a lot !!!
Yes,.... I suppose in 10 years I´ll got your speed ....
Or you play D on C:)))
