    That plug is for playback from telephone, not to monitor your voice while recording. If you use a phone to record and the mike is plugged, each time you wanna check if the clip was recorded okay, you would have to unplug it, plug your headphones, then unplug them and reconnect the mike. This plug alleviates this problem.

    • @IbrahimLucas
      @IbrahimLucas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Krisztián Hildebrand yeah, I’ve mentioned it in the description. Being able to monitor audio during recording is still less time consuming than checking it after. I think it would push more people to go for it instead of the videomicro.

    As most people have mentioned, the boya mic is splitting the TRS input of the phone and providing the Headphone-out channel. Just like a cable that splits mic-in and headphone-out for a TRS input-output.
    For live monitoring to work, the application of choice must playback the real-time audio through the headphone-out. The mic has no inbuilt live monitoring capabilities in that sense.
    If you want to simply test if the port works, simply connect headphones (to the Boya mic) and playback music/audio from youtube/music software. Just a text update on that in the comments or description would be great!
    Thank you for the review! It was well done!

      Exactly, and to add to that, some applications like BandLab or something, allow you to hear yourself while recording, and using such an app to record will allow for real time monitoring.

    Guys, the headphone plug is just a passthrough for the headphones on mobile devices. All phones and mobile devices use a TRRS plug (4 pins) as opposed to a TRS plug, which allows the same jack to electrically connect both 2 speakers (earplugs) and 1 mic, with a shared ground connector (TRRS = Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve, where the Sleeve is the common ground cable, and the other 3 are two for the earplugs and one for the mic). So of course it works but only if you connect the MM1+ to smartphones and tablets using the TRRS provided cable, then you can plug your headphones into the MM1+ and have the MM1+ pass the audio out.

    I've read that the headphones output is to check the video on playback. So you would have to record, stop and then play the video to hear and check. The benefit is that for smartphones you won't have to switch mic cable and headphones cable constantly

  • @IbrahimLucas
    @IbrahimLucas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    UPDATE: The headphone output ONLY works on playback AND when you use the microphone on smartphones! So this feature is NORMALLY not available while recording or streaming. However! I found a way that you can monitor the audio while recording with your smartphone! Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/hj3aSOWZppo/w-d-xo.html

  • @The.JZA.
    @The.JZA. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the headphone jack on the back of the mic is a passthrough so you can only hear audio that is coming from the device that the mic is plugged into. Thats why it has a TRRS connector for smartphones so that the phone can output audio at the same time as receiving audio from the mic.

    Nice video 👍🏼! Thank you! I am still trying to figure this mic thing out as I go but it is my understanding that when you put your mic in your smartphone you overtake the headphones jack. What the second jack on the mic does it allows you to plug your headphones in and listen to the playback instead of having to take the mic out every time you want to check your footage. Question: did you do some post editing on the audio? Because my mic gets a lot of noise and I have to take that out in post processing. Thx 🙏🏽!

      hi, i am planning to shot a short movie with a dslr. Since it's very low budget, camera will be steady on tripod and only ambient sound will be recorded. Would you suggest something like this? the only goal would be NOT hearing the annoying wind noise

    • @GoTellJesusSaves
      @GoTellJesusSaves ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firmaleggibile4130 Hello! I'm no expert for sure. But some things I would consider in choosing a mic for ambient sound would be:
      Low self noise of the mic. Because I don't want white noise in the audio.
      What sound am I attempting to capture? Where is it located? This matters for a couple reasons. Different microphones have different sound signatures. Some will sound smoother than others. Some are better at accurately recording specific types of sounds. Just like different voices may sound better or worse depending on the mic/s used to record with, so too do different sounds. Also I would consider the frequency range of the sounds. Some mics won't reproduce very low frequencies well or at all. Same with very high frequencies.
      The location of the sound/s matters quite a bit because if I want to capture a specific sound in a specific location, I'll want a mic with an acute sound field (directional), as the goal would be to capture the one sound and not any others. But if I'm trying to capture all the sounds that I hear in an area, I want an omnidirectional mic. It will pick up sounds from 360° quite equally.
      And because it's outdoors, I'll definitely want a fuzzy mic cover for wind. I'll also want to keep the mic out of the sun somehow. Maybe just a shade umbrella up above it, but not close enough to it to affect the sound. Beacuse white noise of a mic increases the hotter the mic and air around it is.
      I know that's a lot... maybe TMI. But that's how I would go about choosing a mic.
      To wrap it all up, a low cost omnidirectional mic with low self noise and a fuzzy cover could work great for recording ambient sounds.
      There are a few guys who make TH-cam videos testing mics and include the self noise of the mics they test or provide clips of their recordings for you to hear for yourself. I recommend using decent noise cancelling headphones to listen to those videos so that you can really hear what's actually being recorded. And keep in mind that many people may watch your videos with headphones on.
      A big mistake that I've experienced while watching many low budget films is that they didn't have good control of background sound and noise. I could hear the hiss (white noise) of the recordings and it changed throughout the video and it distracted me from the viewing experience.
      Anyway... I could go on and on about sound...
      I hope this helped in some significant way!
      Blessings to you and your adventure in film making!

      @IbrahimLucas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for watching the video!
      Try setting the recording level manually (around -16 and -12 db) and then add gain in post. If it's set to "auto" the camera will automatically record the audio too high and therefore you'll get 'hiss' and/or audio clipping. What you can also do is record on a audio recorder and then sync the audio in post. Most audio recorders have better pre-amp than camera's. I hope this is helpful!

      2. The cable has two different ends. You may be plugging the "microphone end" into the camera and vice versa.
      3. The microphone has a line-out and a headphone jack. Maybe the cable is plugged into the headphone jack.

      Que tal Angelo? Por suerte hablo un poquito español. Lo que dije fue que el micrófono funciona bien por su precio. Viene con dos cables, uno para usarlo con tu teléfono y otro para usar con tu cámara. El micrófono tiene una toma para auriculares, pero si estas usando el micrófono en una cámara, no puedes monitorear el sonido. Para mi, eso es el único inconveniente. En general, es un micrófono bueno y económico. Gracias por ver mi video, aunque no lo entiendas! 😁💪🏽

      This is the first time I'm hearing about this microphone. I'll check it out. Is there something specifically you want to see in the video?
