I really like this video, i am looking for a mic that i can use for indoors. When i play some multiplayer games seems that i can have lots of fun with this and also at the same time do some video while i am talking and get that clear sound. Right now i use Headset with microphone and i dont really recommend it because it catches up your voice in another way like it isnt you doing the talking. Thanks for the kind words! It's because of the pickup patterns of both mics, the h1n has an omnidirectional pick up pattern which means it will pick up more noise around it versus a shotgun mic which is better at focusing on sound directly in front of it especially at the distances tested... I do use the h1n as like a voice over/podcast mic to get the best sound too though. But for sit down sessions lole this, I prefer not having to show the mic unless it's like a video podcast/interview type of thing... 👍

that's a good question. In terms of sound quality, maganda din magrecord si H1n, pero since omni directional sya, marerecord nya ung lahat ng nasa paligid nya, so kung malayo ung mic sayo, may masasamang ambient noise. pero if tutukan sya, kunwari, you're using it as a podcast mic, sobrang high quality talaga sya. but if you're gonna be vlogging and moving around, mas maganda na shotgun mic para kung san sya nakatutok, yun pipickupin nya. hope this helps! thanks for watching! 😁
Hello, I just bought this mc, I usually do youtube tutorials video. Is this mic ok for that and when i am indoors, will there be background noise if the deadcat is on?
Congrats! Yeah! It's very good especially considering the price! Sounds are louder and clearer and yes it will pick up room noise, aircon especially if its in the same direction. However the deadcat helps in lessening that too. A little noise reduction will go along way! 👍🏼
I'm just thinking if you need so much extra efforts to mount the mm1 to reach you, why not just use a BY-m1 which produces better audio quality and is much cheaper.

I have the BY M1 also and I enjoy using it too actually, however I find the lav mic to be very distracting when it's just clipped on my shirt and I always worry that it will pickup the rustling of my clothes when I move (even though it doesnt, I did a test on this channel too). plus, I worry all the time about the battery running out without me knowing or worse, I start recording and forget to turn the lav mic on! which has happened to me a number of times already too! 😅😅😅 With a boom pole + BY-MM1 setup, I forget about the mic completely. I plug it in and I know it's on. and I just feel I have more freedom to move in frame thus making me more relaxed for shoots. There are pros and cons to each, So I guess it comes down to personal choice at the end of the day more than the audio quality. 😁

Hi! It picks up sound from where you directly point it. I think you can use it but not if they are sitting/standing across on either end of the mic because the person standing behind the microphone will not be as loud.
do you think the improvement in sound quality in the last test was more due to being placed closer to you or the fact that it was plugged into the zoom external recorder? thanks!

Hi Justin! Thank you for such a fantastic review. I've been having issues of my own that I was hoping to get some help with. I bought this mic recently for filming auditions. It comes with a specific cord compatible with smartphones, so it plugs into my phone with no issue at all. But the end result in the recording is awful - the mic seems to be picking up a ton of ambient sound from the aircon and quite frankly, I don't hear very much of a difference in quality between the recording done with the boya mic (with deadcat) vs with just the inbuilt mic in the smartphone. What am I doing wrong? Hoping to hear from ya!
I think, there can be not much difference between the phone's built in mics and the Boya, or even the phone may sound better, particularly that the Boya records mono sound. I think, the basic virtues of the Boya are - directional pattern and the deadcat; in other words, one can control (to some degree) direction, from which the sound is recorded and the mic is protected from the wind. I made comparison of recordings from the BY-MM1 and the Olympus LS-P4 recorder, and I have to say, BY-MM1 is a very decent mike; OK, Olympus offers richer lowest and highest frequencies, but it's pretty obvious due to its better frequency response, while Boya captures mid tones just equally good.
Hi! Rekta lang! There are 2 cables that come with it. Make sure na yung TRS cable (the plug with only 2 back lines/rings around it and not the one with 3 rings) yung nakakabit! No other adapters necessary! 👍

Do you ever find that the boya by-mm1 can be a little too sensitive at times? I’ll be recording, the neighbours will close their front door and it sounds like someone has punched the mic 😂
haha! i guess it depends on where you're recording exactly and how close you are to the neighbor's door. Its really good at amplifying sounds but unfortunately you really cant control how loud it goes unlike more expensive mics, but it's still pretty good esp for the price! :)

Nice review but I keep seeing you disabling the H1N microphone in favor of the Boya MM1. Why not just use the H1N as a close mic?

I do use the h1n as like a voice over/podcast mic to get the best sound too though. But for sit down sessions lole this, I prefer not having to show the mic unless it's like a video podcast/interview type of thing... 👍

that's a good question. In terms of sound quality, maganda din magrecord si H1n, pero since omni directional sya, marerecord nya ung lahat ng nasa paligid nya, so kung malayo ung mic sayo, may masasamang ambient noise. pero if tutukan sya, kunwari, you're using it as a podcast mic, sobrang high quality talaga sya. but if you're gonna be vlogging and moving around, mas maganda na shotgun mic para kung san sya nakatutok, yun pipickupin nya. hope this helps! thanks for watching! 😁

Congrats! Yeah! It's very good especially considering the price! Sounds are louder and clearer and yes it will pick up room noise, aircon especially if its in the same direction. However the deadcat helps in lessening that too. A little noise reduction will go along way! 👍🏼

I have the BY M1 also and I enjoy using it too actually, however I find the lav mic to be very distracting when it's just clipped on my shirt and I always worry that it will pickup the rustling of my clothes when I move (even though it doesnt, I did a test on this channel too).
plus, I worry all the time about the battery running out without me knowing or worse, I start recording and forget to turn the lav mic on! which has happened to me a number of times already too! 😅😅😅
With a boom pole + BY-MM1 setup, I forget about the mic completely. I plug it in and I know it's on. and I just feel I have more freedom to move in frame thus making me more relaxed for shoots.
There are pros and cons to each, So I guess it comes down to personal choice at the end of the day more than the audio quality. 😁

Hi! It picks up sound from where you directly point it. I think you can use it but not if they are sitting/standing across on either end of the mic because the person standing behind the microphone will not be as loud.

Hi Justin! Thank you for such a fantastic review. I've been having issues of my own that I was hoping to get some help with. I bought this mic recently for filming auditions. It comes with a specific cord compatible with smartphones, so it plugs into my phone with no issue at all. But the end result in the recording is awful - the mic seems to be picking up a ton of ambient sound from the aircon and quite frankly, I don't hear very much of a difference in quality between the recording done with the boya mic (with deadcat) vs with just the inbuilt mic in the smartphone. What am I doing wrong? Hoping to hear from ya!
I think, there can be not much difference between the phone's built in mics and the Boya, or even the phone may sound better, particularly that the Boya records mono sound. I think, the basic virtues of the Boya are - directional pattern and the deadcat; in other words, one can control (to some degree) direction, from which the sound is recorded and the mic is protected from the wind. I made comparison of recordings from the BY-MM1 and the Olympus LS-P4 recorder, and I have to say, BY-MM1 is a very decent mike; OK, Olympus offers richer lowest and highest frequencies, but it's pretty obvious due to its better frequency response, while Boya captures mid tones just equally good.
Are adaptive noise reduction + filter EQ achieved through audio editing softwares or are those functions achieved through the set-up?

Hi! Rekta lang! There are 2 cables that come with it. Make sure na yung TRS cable (the plug with only 2 back lines/rings around it and not the one with 3 rings) yung nakakabit! No other adapters necessary! 👍

haha! i guess it depends on where you're recording exactly and how close you are to the neighbor's door. Its really good at amplifying sounds but unfortunately you really cant control how loud it goes unlike more expensive mics, but it's still pretty good esp for the price! :)
Zoom external recorder makes all the difference.
