The only ferraris meant to be driven as a race car are the ones made for racing, according to ferrari. You're basically just buying the look. Not the performance. There are many sport cars that will out race a street ferrari.

No street car is a race car - period. I have owned and still own my share of exotics. I have driven everything from the GT3RS, to AMG GTR, to the Pista, to Challenge cars and so forth. I also race the Radical Cup and own a Kessel Racing F430 GT3 Evo. You are sorely mistaken if you think they are just touring cars that cannot perform. Even a regular F8 can run with most things outside of other exotic special versions such as a Pista, 765 or the like. The main thing to understand about what Ferrari does, is that 1 they use a very conservative alignment from the factory, and 2 they actually make cars that are fast on the road. The first thing is a zero issue as all you have to do, is change the alignment. That's a few hours worth of work for doing camber etc. on all four wheels. The second part is something most fail to realize sets Ferrari apart. Sure a GT3RS is fast on a VERY smooth GP style track, but reality is that the suspension is so stiff and oversprung, that the car is all over the place on public roads. The only car which comes even remotely close to have the same abilities as Ferrari in this regard, is the Merc GTR. As for using street cars for heavy track use, they all need the same thing which is a brake upgrade. That might seem odd with both steel and ceramics being options for most modern sports cars, but fact is that they are street versions. They will not last on the track, period. A Pista goes though a set of stock pads in 3-4 hours on Paul Ricard, and same is the case for other cars being it high powered Porsches, McLarens or what ever have you. Now fit that Pista with a set of Surface Transforms CCST rotors, and you now have a car that can run Pagid RSL1 pads and outstop anything shy of a GT3 or GTE car. On top of that, the pads now last for up to 25 hours and can be driven on the road. Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche and Mercedes all know what they are doing, and all of them are very capable track cars if you go about it right. As for performers on the road, Ferrari has it nailed when it comes to making a car that is fast and actually work on the road. If you had owned a few and tracked them, you'd know that.

There are many lower class tier sports that are faster than a street ferrari. lamborghini (for example)was made to be not only a simple sport car, was made to be pure race car, that is why the gearbox was made to endure it, the gear relation was set to act like raw race car, suspension are way harder as a track car (when ferrari come from the factory with a soft and confort suspention, totally UNABLE to race appropriately), also the aerodynamic from ferrari, beside is really good, is inferior than lamborghini, we can see a lot of mistakes inside and outside, they have some details that lift the front (seen even in italia version, the LaFerrari version I do not know), so do not be a generic popular information repeater. every material and resources needed to be a race car are missing in all street ferraris, all, I repeat, all. but these things we can find in lamborghini since countach, even gallardo that was a lite lambo got most of race car material, the most important is the structure, every ferrari is too fragile to join in a real race without improvements, when lamborghini cars came from the factory twice stronger than a ferrari, is not a myth, the fact is real, lambos are very well know to be strong, only aventador was a mistake, but still smashed the nurburgring record.

Ferraris have had a multitudes of reliability issues over the years shutting down, engine knocking randomly all costing a fortune to repair. This is why ferraris come with a repair kit right off the showroom floor. You're not going to find many ferraris with miles on them but yet needing a lot of servicing. On average street ferrari engines last for around 90k miles whereas Lamborghini engines are able to achieve 150k plus.
