Great point for all archers. I’m older now and wish that someone had told me this when I was younger. You can cause scarring in your shoulders and not know this until you tear something or later in life feel the effects of your injuries you have sustained in your youth. So take this in consideration when choosing a poundage that’s right for the individual. Start with an easily handled poundage and work your way up, but always use good form and hopefully you’ll have a long career shooting and hunting with your bow .😊

Dude you are so 100% right on how to draw a bow correctly. You do the best example of how to draw your bow the wrong way and the right way. You should show the guy from Bow Disciples. I keep telling him that he is sky drawing and pulling too much draw weight on his bow. He tells me that I have no clue what I'm talking about but look at it. Keep up the great vlogs!!!

lmao good luck. That James dude is a clown... I never seen someone with such bad form and punches the hell out of the trigger. And he really thinks he's good too. It's actually quite hilarious.

I’m glad that a lot of the TH-cam archers and good archers are finally addressing this. High poundage doesn’t matter it’s form and technique!

High poundage does matter. It lets you shoot heavier arrows and creates more energy. Making the animal expire quicker

I tore my rotator cuff a few years ago because I was pulling my bow back incorrectly. I rehabbed my shoulder with the Archery Strong program and that is the only reason I can still shoot today.

That’s great info. When I was working in a shop it was amazing how many folks wanted the higher draw weight. Especially young bucks…the macho thing!
Additionally when hunting try to stay within your body frame when drawing. Keeping within your silhouette hides lots of movement.
    Keep up the good info.

This is a very knowledgeable person. Spending the majority of the video on what NOT to do, is only helpful for some. It will also confuse beginners, showing many incorrect ways to do things, when they have a clean slate.

Way to look out for new and older archers alike. I have been telling people who will listen to draw consistently straight back with the right muscles 💪🏻. I have seen some athletic looking guys sky draw because no one showed them any different.
Since I am not built like Thor 🔨 I have my bow set at 65 lbs with a 29.5 in draw with about a 470 grain arrow. I know that I can’t get 75-90 lb limbs back so I am happy where I’m at. Could I pull 70? Yes I am sure, but I don’t have to worry about backing it down for colder weather etc.,.

Thank you for covering this!! I see people drawing their bows wrong all the time. I always advise people to learn to shoot a trad bow first. Helps ensure you learn to shoot the right way first. -some ranges will kick you out if they see you sky draw.

I generally think 7/10 people try and pull too much weight. The vast majority of Midwest whitetail hunters should be at 50-60 lbs in my view. Sure in the middle of summer with a T-shirt on shooting 3D 70 lbs is no problem. But when the moment of truth comes in mid-November with 4 layers of gear on, nerves, etc 60 is soooo much better.

Ya I never understood that people at the shop will say are you going to be able to pull that on a cold day ect lol if that's a thought in your mind either workout or drop your weight

    • @WhitetailPursuit
      @WhitetailPursuit ปีที่แล้ว

Agree. I ran into a problem this past year pulling 60lbs.. got a little buck fever and had just a heck of a time pulling my bow back. Which led to bad form and not the greatest shot. We did end up finding it but it definitely made me rethink my drawing weight and form

I bought a new bow. Went 70# because that was what old one was. Since not practicing over winter I couldn’t get new bow back easily. Ended up dropping weight to 62 and am super happy with it. Plus body doesn’t hurt.

Can you talk about the difference between sky drawing and how some people start with a high bow arm to keep the front shoulder from rolling forward and levering the bow downward as they draw directly to the face. I see lots of people saying this is sky drawing bit it is a technique taught by Some too end coaches. Think Chris Bee style of drawing. Good video 👍

Over the years at many local 3-d shoots I’ve talked people that are decent shots into shooting 15 yards sitting on a chair or whatever. After the shot I asked them to tell exactly what spot they were trying/ aiming to hit. Nearly everyone hit high. Sometimes it was only an inch+ and some were 3-4” high . Because of different posturing in your back is my thoughts. So if you’re target is 30+ yards are you going to hit high or high miss?

  • @timgruver5932

Wished so many could see this video. Watch any 3-d video of a TAC event or just at the local club and I’m betting 9 of 10 draw improperly? I had to lower my poundage a lot several years ago and work my way up so as to learn this. If someone is using a hinge this is the easiest and best way for safety and to get all the muscles set up. And I also believe there’s too many that draw way too much for no reason. But that’s a choice thing.

We see the same things you went over at our range too And the sky jack is also NOT COOL We had a recurve guy sky jack and his arrow went well over 120 yds due to a slip off of his fingers you and Average Jack where one's I watched on rawing I draw 80+ lbs (short man sindrum) but I can with out alot of efort DUE TO the way you draw your bow I also use both arms (like you do with out knowing it) A small push from the front arm not quite 1/2 bent, and a pull with the rear arm elbow up high and both shoulder's stay up high as you drop into your archer point
THAK YOU for doing this video I'm going to pass it along to other's who need help

My shoulder is wrecked from work so I can't draw my bow with my elbow up I had to work with my son because he couldn't understand why he wasn't pulling a lot of poundage. I realized he was trying to copy the way I draw. He started pulling the correct way and now he can pull more poundage at 15 than most of my buddies.

The "flagship" or even decent mid-end bows come as 60-70#. It's very difficult to find a decent bow that comes in 40-50, or can be adjusted with a range of 40-70. It really be hugely helpful if manufacturers didn't play to the speed game, and opened up the flagship market to more people. l don't want to spend on a lesser bow, then have to sell it. I'd like to have one bow that can handle a wider range. Also, there are times when it's cold or I'm just tired and more adjustability would be welcomed.

Drawing a bow incorrectly. Temporary comfort, future rotator cuff surgery. Drawing a bow with a low elbow is not worth a nasty, painful surgery in your late 40's-mid 50's.

with the sky draw being wrong and ground draw being wrong. from what i saw the only difference from the sky draw, ground draw, and yours is the area you are pointing the bow. on the trigger arm. they seem to be pulled all the same way.
my question how do these three draws affect your draw shoulder vs the across the chest draw?
if you have time would be nice to see how each draw works what muscle. sky draw, ground draw, right way to draw. and across the chest draw.

  • @sahhull

About 90% of TH-camr 'experts' draw their bows incorrectly.
I have wreaked shoulders. Not archery related, they were wreaked before archery became a hobby. My elbow will not go above armpit level. I cannot put my hands behind my back either.
Im a target archer as bow hunting is illegal in the UK.
Sometimes you just have to piss with the cock you got.

Great video. But....... I think YOU
    Are drawing too much weight
    Arcing your torso forward and
Pulling to your full draw is really
Just another version of the " sky draw". Try holding your bow in the
    Position you would release from
    And then draw the bow.

  • @williambilse
    @williambilse 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

IMO your draw shoulder looks wonky. You are kind of rotating it up and forward pre-draw, and pulling your shoulder back and down to draw. Any coach I have seen has you rotate your shoulder around your body. And coil/uncoil the torso simultaneously to help take some load off the shoulder. I'm guessing you are injury free because you are a healthy beast man. Not because you have proper drawing technique.
