    This is great info Dan, I'm 62 years old and have shoot a bow for about 50 years. At only 5'-6" I was taught many years ago when shooting a 65-70 pond bow to use the push and draw method. I am also left-handed, which my bow guy just calls me ol lefty. When drawing at level I gently push my raiser forward with the palm of my right hand while drawing with my release with my left. I had a torn rotator cuff and 3 torn labrums' repaired in 2018. While doing my PT after the repair my physical therapist set up my PT just as I draw my bow. I refuse to go to a cross bow until at least 75 or 80. Thanks for the tips.

    Thanks because I started picking up a bow because of you Josh and Tim and I kinda hurt my right shoulder, I kinda taught myself watching videos. So I most likely did it wrong and hurt myself, I’m sixty but I’m still trying. Thanks again.

    I gotta thank you guys for these videos. At 51 I’m fairly new to archery, let’s just say I have fallen in love with it again and I’m taking it 💯 seriously this time. I have an old pitching injury, never had it looked at but it’s definitely rotator cuff in the front of my shoulder. I’m at a low poundage, 55 hoping to work up to 60. After watching these videos I’m definitely going to order some bands and work on my rotator strength. So far not a lot of pain when drawing back but I can definitely tell when I do it right because there’s zero strain and I feel much stronger and it feels like I’m using mostly back muscles. Please keep putting these technique videos out!

    I live for these kinds of videos,I’ve watched some of this guys videos and they are very detailed oriented and informative. I’m 67 and watch a lot of professional archers not on where they hit the target but there grip,draw, anchor. I’ve been shooting a bow since I was 6 and I’m still learning to shoot better. Keep videos coming 🏹🏹🦌

    Great info for target shooting! I promise you won’t get away with that much movement in a hunting situation in December or January in Mississippi. You basically have to draw the bow without moving it at all.

    As a 42 year old with jacked up shoulders (tears and osteolysis)this video speaks to me. I have a low arm (bicep) draw. Will have to do some draw tinkering. I can attest, if I allow my shoulders to get weak, they hurt. CrossFit and crossover symmetry keep them pain free and functional. 👊🏼

  • @TheWVgoodguy22

    Excellent and necessary video. From watching this I believe that I do the single or static arm draw quite a lot. Mostly because I want to have my pin already on target so all I have to do is draw and then go through the rest of my shot sequence with the least amount of movement as possible. I don’t do it every time but I know that I do that.
    Thanks for sharing. I will have to record myself and maybe send it to you sometime. 💪🏻😎🏹

    I use to do the bicep draw and was pulling 70Lbs. After awhile my bicep and forearm would keep me up at night hurting. I knew my crappy drawing technique was the issue. So I turned my bow down to 60lbs which was the lowest i could get it and was going to re-train myself in drawing correctly, to my surprise I couldn't get it back drawing correctly. So I bought a used 50-60lb bow and turned it down to 50lbs where I could draw the bow correctly and practiced with it for about 3 months. It didn't take long to move back up into 70lbs drawing the correct way. It totally retrained myself and now it comes natural, and I haven't hurt since. Plus now I'm drawing 80lbs comfortably with no pain. Anyone can do this, best decision I have made in my bow hunting career

    Very nice video and always super nice to get info like this however everyone is always talking about the draw are and shoulder but not much about the bow “holding” arm and shoulder. I have injured my left shoulder(the bow holding arm if i can call it that) and I developed a pinching muscle right between the acromion and bursa or the acromioclavicular AC joint. So to be more specific if you raise your arm to the side, right in that dimple on the shoulder. When that muscle pinches my whole arm gave in. I have stoped shooting for more than 2 months to rest it out. Now when i draw the bow i keep my bow arm and shoulders very static and im pretty sure im compensating so much that im scared i will injure something else. My bow is set to 63 pounds and i can draw it very easily its just this stupid pinch that i get. Is there any advice someone can give me because i have looked around so much for something regarding this and i dont find a thing about it. Keep up the good work

    A lot of these issues can be resolved by not over bowing, or setting to high of a draw weight. Most people do not need 70 pounds. States like Oregon set the minimum threshold for elk at 40 pounds of draw weight. No one wants to be in the bottom of the KE or momentum required to take a large animal, 55-60 pounds with a cut on contact would be more than sufficient. Great video, I just wish you would stop promoting the heavier draw weights, and actually promote what a good draw looks like and determining when a shooter draw weight is exceeding their physical ability.

    So, where’s the proper way to draw a bow? I didn’t see it.

  • @mylifeinthewild
    @mylifeinthewild 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As a bow dealer, I find that most flaws in technique, can be traced back to over-bowing. The problem today in the TH-cam age, is that you have quite a few famous TH-camrs with confidence issues. They draw 26-27 inches, they hunt elk, preferably taking as long shots as possible, and they go to extreme draw weights to compensate for their arm length.
    I'm getting complete beginners with 29-30" dl asking about 80 and 90lb bows, because Cameron Hanes said so. And if I say they shouldn't even have 70lbs as their first bow, I'm almost being laughed at.
    So for the large channels featuring short-draw archers, PLEASE take responsibility. Starting a video with "we want you to draw heavier bows" is counterproductive, and WILL lead to more bad form and more injured archers.
