He started a prayer group. Ended up with friends all over the world. One woman and him became so close, that after my grandmother passed, they started visiting each other twice a year. She was from New Zealand, while he lived in Buffalo. She was also only 40 something while he was in his 80s - it was simply a friendship. That woman ended up marrying my uncle. It's been years, now. They are happy and growing old in NZ together.
It is harmful if the husband started a relationship with someone else while his wife has Alzheimers. Doesn’t matter if the wife adores the other lady or not, it’s cheating.

My mom just died Jan 5th from Alzheimers. This disease is terrible. I, along with my sister, were her primary caregiver and to see it take away a once vibrant, outgoing woman to how she ended up is totally devastating. It's hard work, but was glad that we were there for Mom

According to my mom she had pretty much forgotten everything and everyone by then including my grandmother who was her daughter. Strangely though she still managed to remember my parents. None of us knew why and were always puzzled by it. My dad they could understand since he was her first grandson but my mom was just her granddaughter-in-law. My mom felt extremely awkward about it since my great grandmother managed to still remember her despite completely forgetting about her own daughter.
I worked in a dementia care home for 4 years. We had one resident in his early sixties come to us, and he was such a vibrant, outgoing person. Then Covid hit, and we had an outbreak in the home. We lost 17 residents in the space of two months, and what was worse is that we had to isolate each resident in their rooms to prevent further spread. I watched that man deteriorate so rapidly from the isolation, going from a happy, talkative person, to someone who could barely respond when his name was called, and the only thing you could see in his eyes was FEAR. I'm kinda glad Ethan and April got a bit of a clue-by-four to the heads here, seeing how much the girlfriend loved both her boyfriend AND his wife, and how both were working to take care of their dear one. The first, and most important thing, I think any doctor/nurse/caregiver needs to have? EMPATHY.

honestly! so many people are judging but like the reality is this woman now has two people who care about her to take care of her and her husband is able to live a happy life in spite of the tragic cards he’s been dealt. it’s honorable of the girlfriend to help take care of the wife with her boyfriend instead of them putting her in a nursing home permanently.
Hearing hank say she walked outside gave me memories of when my grandma who had Alzheimer’s did that, one of the most stressful things I’ve ever experienced because we couldn’t find her for 10 minutes, we found her feeding some ducks with a man who had some bread, didn’t know him but I’m so glad she wasn’t in any danger, she passed away a few years ago, I’ll always miss her
Alzheimer's is really one of the cruelest things out there, you have to watch your loved one slowly mentally deteriorate until they are a shell of their former selves, even if otherwise they appear completely healthy. The fact she just wandered out into traffic is a fairly big indicator of how bad it has gotten, but there's smaller hints too. When she's offered scrambled eggs, it could mean that's she's started forgetting how to chew. It's heartbreaking 💔

Plus later in the ep it's implied they're in a poly relationship. It's why the gf is so nice to the wife- she also loves and cares for her.
I think this is a case of a husband and his wife's friend getting close after both working hard to care for the wife, something that most probably wouldn't have happened had the wife not become ill. I can't see any problem in it, the man and friend support each other with love included, and the wife is having great care, seems happy, and is protected.
literally! we as a society view polyamory as evil or impossible but humans aren’t necessarily wired to only love one person. we love our partners and our family or friends equally just different ways. the idea of romantically loving more than one person isn’t so crazy if you think about it that way. obviously this situation works wonderfully for the three of them. the wife is happy and WELL taken care of, the girlfriend and husband bond and love each other and lean on each other while caring for someone they both care about as well. all that matters is everyone is happy and healthy.

I wish they had named alpha-gal syndrome to explain mammalian meat allergies! I was diagnosed two years ago after hiking a trail in Oklahoma and it completely changed my life! I have to be very careful not to eat things with gelatin and went undiagnosed for about 6 months while my reactions got worse because I live in Florida and they didn't suspect the lone star tick would have been on my radar! I think allergies like this should be talked about more often because I've gone into restaurant so many times and said I was allergic to red meat only to be looked at like I was a picky eater or vegan or something! People don't take this allergy as seriously because it's so unknown.

I think these young doctors are way too quick to judge. They have no idea what it's like to deal with what these people are going through. There's nothing wrong with having a wife and a girlfriend. Polyamory is very valid and this is a special circumstance. The man loves his wife but needs support she can't provide. There's nothing wrong with having them both in his life. Also the girlfriend is so kind and caring towards both of them. It's a healthier dynamic than they're making it out to be.

I don’t think you know how this show works. Patient comes in, some doctor is judging the patient, someone talks more about the illness or situation, the doctor learns more and accepts it usually. It’s so formulaic if you can’t catch that you might be a little slow.
The problem is the debate of whether an alzheimer's paitent is capable of giving consent. Like with autism it's a spectrum, some are high functioning and others are low-functioning. From her stint in the street and that they claim it wasn't the first time, it's safe to say she's on the low-functioning end with an impaired sense of judgement and consequences. I'd say such an individual is incapable of giving consent, myself

I'm a retired nurse. I saw this kind of relationship several times. It was always a situation where a person was in a nursing home and the spouse (husband or wife) had a thing going on with another person.
Instead of judging from the doctor should have checked to make sure they could qualify for home health care and respite workers to give them a rest as well as the technology that is udlsed to track patients that wander.
Even if this is against a major moral law, the doctors have no right to judge them. its not there lives, only if something is medically related do they need to know about it.
Had an elder bro in the same situation. His wife had been vegetative for two years when he finally started dating. He was a great guy, and he found an awesome lady who loved him and totally understood his situation. But people were still holes about it and called him a gross cheater. When the wife's empty body finally died, he was finally able to marry the girlfriend.
I don't know how I feel about this situation. I guess it's ok. The wife is happy at home and has 2 people who care about her and take care of her. I'm guessing they don't do anything disturbing in front of her.
As long as Miss GF is caring and lovely to Mrs Wife I am not that bothered. Its better imo than him running about sneaking around and her perhaps going without care. I am diabetic (under control) but have been told I'm at a greater risk of Alzheimer's. So I do things to keep the mind working, puzzles, card games, and what not. But I know it's not a "cure". I have decided if I realize I am developing this terrible disease, about 400 units of insulin will solve everyone's problems. I will NOT put my loved ones through that torment.
My Great Nana had alzheimers, she was a little over a mile from where I lived but I didn't see her much due to bad family incident (that could never been resolved, believe me). She loved Halloween just for giving out candy to the kids, and when I was a about 8 or 9 years old I went up to her door and she didn't even recognize me, even after telling her my name. I was even more confused than she was. Then when she turned 87 and I was 15, after her birthday party she kissed me on my cheek and that feeling on my cheek stayed with me for the rest of the day. Two weeks later she was gone

I thought people with Down syndrome get Alzheimer's disease not normal people like my aunty DUDU my godparent she has it but she doesn't have DS it is very uncommon.

A friend of mine is allergic to pork after receiving a tick bite. I had never heard of this before that.

Patient comes in, some doctor is judging the patient, someone talks more about the illness or situation, the doctor learns more and accepts it usually.
It’s so formulaic if you can’t catch that you might be a little slow.
If it’s all consensual, can’t see the problem.
The problem is the debate of whether an alzheimer's paitent is capable of giving consent. Like with autism it's a spectrum, some are high functioning and others are low-functioning.
From her stint in the street and that they claim it wasn't the first time, it's safe to say she's on the low-functioning end with an impaired sense of judgement and consequences. I'd say such an individual is incapable of giving consent, myself
The question I pose... Is the wife capable of giving consent? Regardless of that aspect, it's incredibly disrespectful and immoral. Imagine your mind fading away and watching your husband shack up with another woman.

I'm a retired nurse. I saw this kind of relationship several times. It was always a situation where a person was in a nursing home and the spouse (husband or wife) had a thing going on with another person.

Instead of judging from the doctor should have checked to make sure they could qualify for home health care and respite workers to give them a rest as well as the technology that is udlsed to track patients that wander.

Had an elder bro in the same situation. His wife had been vegetative for two years when he finally started dating. He was a great guy, and he found an awesome lady who loved him and totally understood his situation. But people were still holes about it and called him a gross cheater. When the wife's empty body finally died, he was finally able to marry the girlfriend.

I don't know how I feel about this situation. I guess it's ok. The wife is happy at home and has 2 people who care about her and take care of her. I'm guessing they don't do anything disturbing in front of her.
As long as Miss GF is caring and lovely to Mrs Wife I am not that bothered. Its better imo than him running about sneaking around and her perhaps going without care. Or her being sent off to a home she never wished to go to. Its not like they are going to have regular intubations at home where the front door just opens and lets Mrs out. You cant judge them loosing her at the hospital as them being unable to care for her. Caring for an adult person with dementia is a huge task and the more caring people the better. I am diabetic (under control) but have been told I'm at a greater risk of Alzheimer's. So I do things to keep the mind working, puzzles, card games, and what not. But I know it's not a "cure". I have decided if I realize I am developing this terrible disease, about 400 units of insulin will solve everyone's problems. I will NOT put my loved ones through that torment.

My Great Nana had alzheimers, she was a little over a mile from where I lived but I didn't see her much due to bad family incident (that could never been resolved, believe me). She loved Halloween just for giving out candy to the kids, and when I was a about 8 or 9 years old I went up to her door and she didn't even recognize me, even after telling her my name. I was even more confused than she was. Then when she turned 87 and I was 15, after her birthday party she kissed me on my cheek and that feeling on my cheek stayed with me for the rest of the day. Two weeks later she was gone
I really hope this is polyamory, because it’s shows how beautiful these relationships can be.

Even if I did see something wrong with this, I've never had to care for someone with alzheimer's. I don't know firsthand how difficult it can be. I really don't have any right to say anything🤷♀️
I'm sorry, but until you've cared for someone with Altzheimer's or Dementia nobody should comment on how someone deals with it. It's a 24/7 soul crushing thing to do.

Also, this depiction of Alzheimer’s is so…gentle. Granted maybe it gets worse in this episode because I’m only a few seconds in but the shows that make Alzheimer’s patients seem like sweet, adorable, bumbling yet loveable sweethearts is so harmful to actual patients and their caregivers.

that is true, men are much more likely to leave their wives when the wife is ill than women when the husband is ill. but in this specific example he's not "moving on" so much as he is bringing another person into the family to help take care of her. everybody in that throuple is happy so i can't see anything to criticize about it.

We have 0 actual clue what relationship the three had prior to Joanies Alzheimers. Could it be cheating with a noncensual Azlheimers patient? Yes. Could it be a prior polyamorus relationship? Yes. The thing is we have zero information on what it is, all we know is what the doctors know: Roxxane and Henry are together while caring for Henry's wife, Joanie. Joanie clearly likes and trusts both Henry and Roxxane. Thats it. Viewers can make judgments for or against all they want, exactly as the doctors do. Not that its super important to the seriesat large..
