a truly effective and efficient catchcan is baffled and has an input AND output hose… that flows back into the breather without the oil vapor and continues to PULL the vapor out of the crankcase.
I did mine a bit differently, no doubt a little extra work. I routed a tube to my transmission cover, put a fitting there to drain any oil back into my oil tank. Then made a channel in part of the lid over to the area that already has a vent in the lid. If that makes sense? A bit extra work, but eliminates the need of a catch can or a filter etc. Haven’t had any issues since install over a year ago
I am glad you finally put the DK Customs EBS with the catch can on a bike. I have a 2017 RGU and put it on my bike within a week of purchasing the bike new. I believe in the concept of the design. I look forward to your thoughts/ results after the install and actually comparing it to the other breathers you have installed. love your install videos! 🎉🎉
I am a retired GM Mechanic. I have 2 Sportsters. One is high mileage and it is getting more blow by the rings and I was getting a little oil in the air cleaner. I took the rocker boxes off and they have a screen in the breather area. It had a large mesh. I put a SS finer mesh screen in and the oil stopped. The screen is a diffuser. The oil will collect on it and drip back in the engine. I have been running catch cans on my cars for ever. I just replaced the head gaskets on my van with 220 thousand miles. There was zero carbon on the intake valves and very little carbon on the pistons. Also the EGR system was not fouled up.
DK customs has that support bracket on the website, ordered parts straight from them before including an intake and they ask you whether you need that bracket or not. Love all the products that they put out as well.
The first thing I did for my 2000 Screamin Eagle Road Glide was to get rid of those two lines entering into the air cleaner backplate, my mechanical brain was searching for something to make a catch can? I found an old touch up spray gun that was no longer needed and adapted that can with cap,( holds approximately 8 ounces), and it works great!
Not sure if anyone else said this. On Harleys OEM site you may have to change the model of bike to get a part to be listed. I have a 14 Ultra Limited and it only allows for order parts specifically for it. You may have to put in for a Standard instead of ST and part #5 might then be listed.
You are correct. Checked the base road glide model and #5 was listed. Not available on line. Dealer only item and probably would need to be ordered. Cost less than $18.00 before tax.
Yes, the diagrams appear to be somewhat generic covering several models, but only list the parts for the specific model you have selected. If a part number is not listed try choosing a different model. Ask me how I know!
Mr. Monkey, it is because of you, your content and the things you do to motorcycles that keep me going in life. I am blessed to be a member of your channel. Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family.
Use crimp clamps, they look way better than worm gear clamps. I made my own kit up and love it! DK catch can and fitting but made the hose out of fiber reinforced hose.
After 57,600 miles I’m getting alittle blow by on my 2018 SGS. I think it’s simply I might have overfilled the oil a little. After my recent 150 mile ride I checked my oil and it’s at full which leads me to believe that I may have overfilled some .Next is air filter inspection. My engine and exhaust is stock ( yes,I know I’m in the minority). This kit looks cool and if I continue to have some blow by it maybe in my future. Really saving my Pennie’s for a Wilber’s suspension.
Tried a cheap knock off and was not happy. I ordered the DK system. . .It's SO much better. Swapped to black hose clamps and have been pleased with form, fit, function, and looks.
great video, i have the same breather setup and i routed hoses into a T, then one hose over the TB under the tank, route on the upper left side of the engine, down to the right frame rail, with a filter at the end. works well and hidden
i did the trask transmission top cover plus the horsepower inc. breather bolt kit. i could not be happier. zero blow by out of the breather bolts and the trask filter is clean and i have it 4"-5" from the plate, so i can see it. great vid's and you are a crack up. the tank/trash truck made me laugh.
I used the stock head bolts with the nipples and the stock pop on hose fed to a t and drilled a hole in the stock hot box to feed the hose through to a crome catch can. I also drilled out the back of the hot box in a 3/8” hole pattern the allow air blow through. Just working in my budjet.
I put a DK Customs Transformer EBS on my 2015 UL. I originally had the catch can under the air cleaner but ended up running it under the tank and put the catch can above the transmission. My experience has been too much oil causes it to blow out of the catch can and all down the side of the bike hence the relocation
Instead of using a “T”, try using a “Y”, it looks better, it flows better, all is pulling down hill, run the main hose down between the front cylinder tappet cover down low & mount the catch can down onto the front floor board bolt with a round hose clamp, then you can’t see it at all & if it does overflow it leaks down onto the ground not on the top of the cam cover or the exhaust pipe, just my suggestion, that’s how mine is
Here's the issue with the parts site and not being able to click the part: The exploded views show all parts for that model line. When you can't click a part, it means it's not available for that bike. Example: I need a lower jiffy stand for my Ultra FLHTK and I want one from the Ultra Low FLHTKL. It shows both jiffy stands, but I can only click on the standard size arm. Switch to FLHTKL and now I can only click on the lowered arm. Make sure to switch to the bike you want the part from, not the bike you're trying to adapt it to.
My 19 or 22 special never had the backend plate, the back plate on the intake normally is the support with the gasket, been 10k with no issues but did get rid of that plastic junk of a throttle body, but if alot of blow by exist normally has bad rings, don't ask how I know this, but love these videos
pretty sure that there are 4 allen bolts holding the throttle body/manifold to the front and rear head so it won't fall off, but you definitely need that bracket for support
We went to the Santa Clarita, new shop Grand Opening. There was over 5-600 bikes and tons of people. I picked up a fuel filter and gaskets. Bacuda probably has the original on her.
My font cylinder blows oil real bad. I believe it’s a bad head breather. I’ve installed a vented dip stick, trans cover and still got a lot of oil in the filter. So I finally installed a catch can. 😎
You asked if you need to do the catch can on the CVO - on my road glide, after installing the fueling vented dipstick, I found I was still getting some oil in the air intake. So, I would check the intake after a few hundred miles and consider the catch can if needed.
The OEM Harley breather bolts pair nicely with a S&S Stealth air cleaner. From there, you can run two lengths of hose down to a Y shaped barb fitting with a length of hose and a can attached. I did this with my 2016 RG and used a generic aluminum master cylinder I bought off Amazon as the catch can.
I did basically the same thing with my stealth air cleaner on my 22 road glide, just reuse the stock breather bolts and some cheap rubber lines from Napa right down to the ground no need for a catch can
I installed one of those DK customs catch cans on my 2014 Ultra Limited. I ran the hose from each breather bolt to a t fitting, then I ran a hose from the t fitting in between the cylinders to the left side of the bike and hung the catch can next to the horn.
I took my S&S air filers same you had on off my bikes as well and installed these, I truly like them. I just sent them to get powder coated (Window and breather stack) to match the green and orange of my bikes, going to look awesome when done.
I found oil coagulated in external tubes running into the catch can . Found it after 4 weeks of use.. feel like blockage isn't good . Easy to check . Cut tube in half .
I was going to comment on the last video about the oil. You verified what I was thinking when you said you added the 2 quarts. Harley except Dyna and Touring that have a oil tank above the pump, if it's been sitting, never add oil until you run the engine or pull the plugs and crank it for a bit. The oil more than likely is in the sump, and if you fill the tank like you said, and then run it, it'll be way over full and have no choice but to puke it out, and or blow the dipstick and puke it out the tank that way.
That's almost what I said. I pull hose off back of carb and put it in a quart bottle. Crank engine over and it will puke till sump is dry again. Then service tank and reconnect the hose.
Another fantastic video as usual. The twists and turns and O shit moments we've all had. I had the same preposterous expression when swapping the HD High flow off my 17 Streetglide to a V&H VO2 air cleaner as I couldn't find that damn OEM bracket.
the harley part number for the bracket is 16400049 and is 17.09 on their website . I think you could not find was because you were looking up parts an ST or CVO which these bikes do not from the factory but a regular in my case an flhtk does have .
I got lots of condensation in the can. VERRRRRY little actual of that milky shit. I put that zombie breath A/C mounted on the DK transformer back plate. Only thing is couldn’t get the little velocity stack due to the bolts not long enough. *the logo on there is new .. along with that partnership with DK. Damn.. I’m always too early to the party
Hey great stuff this year. I have been interested in someone that makes that blow by kit. I could not find the DK kit on the Tab site? Anyhow, good content.
My 1999 TC88 has the same breather bypass except it goes down between the motor/primary open to the ground, barely leaves a watery mark on the ground runs fine.

I don't want to come across as an idiot, but why not mount the catch can under the fuel tank so that most of the oil drains back into the engine instead of in a catch can. Just seems to me you would never have to drain the can, because it would flow back into the engine.

I didn't hide my catch can either mine hanging between the tappet covers
How much do you want for the Dyna?
I don't want to come across as an idiot, but why not mount the catch can under the fuel tank so that most of the oil drains back into the engine instead of in a catch can. Just seems to me you would never have to drain the can, because it would flow back into the engine.
What handle bars do you have on your ST?

I could nake a few but I won't we all k own who they are they hook up there friends at most no free things to subs even if they do once a year what's that?? We as a community woukd love it and I speak for everyone I'm sure when I say u should reach out so your channel grows and u can do some crazy shit on bikes and possibly do give aways and things like that!!!!
