    Hi your channel is great.
    I have just put my engine back in and drove it for the first time on Saturday, 2 days ago.
    It seems fine, It had a align bore , new cam and followers. Seems a bit down on power, though. Is it because it is still a bit tight? I did the cam burn for 20 mins, and changed the oil.
    I am now about 30 miles into my 500 mile break in period. Do you have any advice you can give me on running it in, please?
    I was told not to drive it in forth under load up hills, yet, and generally don’t drive it fast. (Always stick to 55 mph and under, anyway).
    All the best 👍🏾🛠🇬🇧

    • @SladesVWBeetle

      If you have the spark plugs out for any reason, it won’t loosen the nut with no compression. But yours is probably in the car. It wouldn’t be much fun just to take the plugs out of.

    I adjust mine pretty often, not that I need to, I just like working on my dub. I always wondered if it was too tight what could happen, an if it's too loose what could happen. Your thoughts? I heard it'll get noisy if it's to loose.

    i was noticing the sheet metal screws are slotted. i thought i heard you say in an earlier vid that you were going to go with hex head screws.

      As I get older...I forgot! I placed three different orders in three weeks and kept forgetting to add them to cart. I finally said...screw it. 😁

    How does the engine behave if valves are tight?

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely do not want them too tight. You could actually bend a valve. And obviously it will not run right. Make sure to take some time and readjust your valves. And then re-adjust your timing.

      I guess what I was trying to figure out is... if to tight or to loose can u tell by the way tge engine is running that you need a valve adjustment

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh OK, sometimes it will run a little erratic. I’ve seen some more the valves were just a little too loose, and it almost gave the symptoms of the timing being out of adjustment.

    By the way that all in one tool is pointless lol, mine is still in the package. Unless the motor is out or a baja, there's no point in spending 60 bucks on it

    I’m new to the older VW’s, and just got a 1993 Kombi, from looking through a few Portuguese engine diagrams, and older English ones, it seems like the 1600 motors were more or less the same since the 80’s. Do you agree?
