Yeah must be a Honda thing my 29 year old Shadow needs the turn signal switch cleaned ever so often or they start acting wonky. Another trick I learned about electronics on a motorcycle if you want to avoid down the road problems is dielectric grease in all the electrical connections. It keeps water out so they don't corrode, and then you have to track down where the short is.
I have a '99 model. Getting all of the hoses replaced and thermostat now. Costing a small fortune in labor. Enough to buy another motorcycle. Runs good but I wish I could get 40.mpg. I can only get 30 out of mine with all new tires AND a tuneup still only gets 30. Have to fill up every 120 miles.
This is the best test ride I have ever been on. I laughed so hard I cried. Driving down the road at 75mph whilst trying to force the vent open and balancing motorcycle parts on your lap. If only we had more of this kind of entertainment our world would be a better place. I am praying for your safety and your Honda.

Funny that you mentioned radio being stuck on mute. Mine was like that for so long and it irritated the hell out of me, even though I never actually use it. I bought a 93 aspencade Cash only. Paid 4200 2 years ago. Good body flawless but not added chrome. Plain Jane. It does hesitate from the hole. Reverse works. Thank god. The bike flies. Seems to have no engine problems except the hesitation. Bought it because that body style was a favorite of mine and my dad had one of the first gold wings. Love the ride. The radio works but only out of one speaker. I’m not dissatisfied with my bike but it needs attention has all panels. After market windscreen. Needed new battery. Great bike.
I have a 1994 GL1500 and love it and agree about not being 100% cosmetically correct as long as it runs well. it have been stored for 5 years with no stabilizer in the fuel before I bought it and started it right up with a fresh battery and only had to run a bottle of seafoam through the tank to get it idle properly. I also have a 1976 GL100 and it still runs just as well as the 1994 :)

As i can recall the cruise control works only in the OD (5th gear) and only when the speedometer has at least 60 k/h (or 80 ?) . I had the GW 1500 SE(1990 m.y.) back in '93-'94. The CREME DE LA CREME ! for those who have heard of that GW's nickname, because of the 2 tone white-beige color !

When scouting craigslist and facebook market place I was amazed at the amount of Goldwingsthat are never garaged or covered up when not in use. The rain and sun ruin the plastic stuff. With any cruise control you have to turn it on first before hitting the "set". There should be a button there that turns it on and you should see a light on the dash. At 10:23 I can see the button that says "on/off" and I'm pretty sure you didn't press it. As for reverse, this is one of the few bikes that has it, and mainly because it's just so huge and heavy, it can really help with getting in and out of parking spots, or as you said if you accidently pull down to park on an incline. It's pretty hard to paddle walk an 850 lb bike backwards uphill. I have a hard enough time on my twin and wish it had it. Old Goldwing's are definitely becoming the old classics that people buy simply because of the nostalgia, then they ride them and have the time of their life. If I had enough garage space, I'd probably get one just for that reason. I've seen quite a few 80s and 90s models for sale (cheap!) that are in absolutely mint condition. It would be a blast. With the air vent in the windshield I think that black clip unlocks it, then you can open it. Good luck with the sale! Better get some gas!
Just a thought! Pull over and fix the windshield vent !!!!!!! They have new rubber mounts for the side covers to tighten and not lose them! Amazon has most anything you need. I have a 1983 GW and it needs this and it needs that and that’s no big deal if your into that.
Man, I wish I was tall enough to just step onto my bike like you do. I have a VTX 1300, and even with that, I have to lay out on the tank like a walrus and swing my leg over.
Yep. I've learned goldwings are so fat and with the step up seat are not easy to climb on or off. In fact I think injured my hip test driving a few. Learning to climb on like a horse stirrup via standing on foot peg. I have a vtx 1300c too that I still like too.
I bet you’re sure getting on that truck drivers nerves eh? He changed lanes two or three times because you were going too slow then you speeded up when he almost passed you then you slowed down yet again, lol I can see why you start each ride with a prayer..
Best 'plastic fascia' restoration you can do? All the black ABS 'interior' plastic...do a 'scrub-down' with a good ABS headlight lens polish, like Mothers or Maguires...then after soft-buffing it out, treat it all with 303 Protectant. You can bring that cockpit back to 'like new' appearance, easy...and with old Goldwings...that interior you dismiss will actually increase the sale value to those who already have owned, or like Goldwings. My personal favorite is the 1982 Aspencade...probably the prettiest of the GL line they ever made...(oh, and if you get a 'stuck instrumentation switch', best solution is to put Marvel Mystery Oil in a 'drip can', and put a drop on the switch...it will clean it AND lubricate it to work 'like new' again)...that windshield and vent could stand a quick Mothers ABS Polish, too...would make the vent open up like it's supposed to...they stick because of oxidation. Proper maintenance is the KEY to Goldwings...let them get away from you here, and you'll spend a MONTH 'restoring' them!
My '87 looked a little rough. Missing radio, a few scratches, mirrors floppy and didn't start. Dealer said he thought the fuel pump was bad. It needed a fuel pp relay. Jumped the relay and rode it. Been on this bike about four years. Alternator, head gaskets, water pump, fuel relay and fuel pump. $1500 bike. I ride it across country. Would like a 1500 some day. Long trip last summer with temps in the high 90's was hot. I'm thinking of taking the fairing off and trying an open bike.
Yanmarman1, did you look up the supposed verse he quoted? Jonah 1:17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
my 2013 Wing's windshield vent doesn't open with the little handle either have to grab the vent by hand and pry it open. It has a little steel ball detent that rusts up.
After wanting a gold wing since I was 18 i finally got one! 1976 1000cc still fully dressed. It runs but wont pull itself, im going to try some sea foam and maybe toss the exhaust in the fire pit... I really dont want to take the carbs off if I dont have to. Im more of a moped guy, this is a bit more complex
I need that plastic piece just to the left of the handlebars that covers the wires. Mine has lost a few tabs and wants to come off. Do you know where I can find that piece? I'm not sure what it's even called
I knew a guy in the Chicago area, that had just under 500,000 miles on his Wing when a car rear ended him while stopped at a traffic light. The car was doing 60mph at the time. The bike was totaled, and the operator ended up with a broken back.
Hey Sean!! Great vid as always. I see this vid is 2 years old, so I’m guessing you’ve gotten more education on ‘wings, but just wanted to help you if need be. Cruise: single button is off/on. Should light up on the dash when it’s on. I believe there’s a gear threshold as well as a speed threshold. I think it’s 4th gear and 30 mph at a minimum. Bottom button of the 2 is set/coast, top one is resume/accel. Suspension, the book SAYS not to air it up other than on the center stand with the rear suspension unloaded. Looks like it aired up for you just fine nonetheless. Hopefully this helps you out if you hadn’t found out about this stuff yet. I’m with you! They’re a great bike! I’ve got a ‘95 SE in green with 25k on it. Just did timing belts last year for safety measure, but never a hiccup out of it. As smooth as pudding! Have a great day and Godspeed!!
When something goes wrong they are a real pain to fix. 5.5 hours to change a thermostat. Seems that everything requires removing numerous panels, seat, bags and other things. But they are nice and comfortable when all is right.
ur panel is probably falling off because the rubber grommets it slides into are probably worn try putting some insulating tape around the prongs that go into the rubber grommets that should hold it.
I'm about to buy 87 gold wings what do you think are they pretty good that year it's very nice everything works on it it starts at night music works what do you think is 1800 a good deal
Would it be possible to record these videos at at wider angle? Its kinda distracting. If it’s a newish GoPro, you should be able to change the field of view in the settings.

I have 84 GL1200 Standard and I love it! Had to do a lot of work to it but it’s an awesome ride now!
Man, I wish I was tall enough to just step onto my bike like you do. I have a VTX 1300, and even with that, I have to lay out on the tank like a walrus and swing my leg over.
Step up on the foot peg then swing your leg over.
Is there any way to keep the main look of these but modernise the front. It’s the front that seems to make them look very dated.
Just bought a 79' GL-1000 runs great
Hey make sure your batteries up all the way for your neutral light that should fix it
I've always been a touring guy and I'm probably going to buy a goldwing soon. I'm 19. What the heck
Same for me😂 i always ride hard enduro or superbikes... and now im like should i buy a chopper or a goldwing 🤔
lol im 20 and am cruiser guy i just bought my second goldwing
I’m 12 and I take my mom to work on my 2019 Goldwing that I bought selling painted rocks.
Boi i gotta wait 2 more years to get sonething like that and i'm 21... riding in europe sucks ass as a youngster
@@Elkins82ify 😂👌
My '87 looked a little rough. Missing radio, a few scratches, mirrors floppy and didn't start. Dealer said he thought the fuel pump was bad. It needed a fuel pp relay. Jumped the relay and rode it. Been on this bike about four years. Alternator, head gaskets, water pump, fuel relay and fuel pump. $1500 bike. I ride it across country. Would like a 1500 some day. Long trip last summer with temps in the high 90's was hot. I'm thinking of taking the fairing off and trying an open bike.
I've had 2 great 1500s. How can you start the engine and not even remark about how good the engine sounds on startup? : )
Love the bible verse. I'm looking at getting a goldwing. Thanks for the ride.
Yanmarman1, did you look up the supposed verse he quoted?
Jonah 1:17
Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
my 2013 Wing's windshield vent doesn't open with the little handle either have to grab the vent by hand and pry it open. It has a little steel ball detent that rusts up.
So what your saying is I should buy a goldwing aspencade for my first bike
Hi i am buying a gold wing gl 1500 and i have not rode it yet cuz i cant figure out why it wont start
did I overlook the link for the motorcycle checklist or did u not get a round tuit? 😊
I love my 1500 wing.. I wish the cruise worked.. the light comes on but no cruise.. any help guy will really appreciate it
I thought you didn't get top of panel lip under & behind seat before snapping straight pins into rubber grommets.
I was thinking getting goldwing, for a long trip, friends what to some where, just not sure where, either Florida or Sterga
Is the website still down for everyone else?
Is there a discount since the vent and cruise control doesn’t work?😁
Wing fan here. Honda used to say they should be able to do a million miles. More than this Biker will ever need, ha.
Thanks Sean I now have a different positive view regarding the Goldwing... great vids
This is Shawn's best video ever
Thank you for the scripture brother, it comes at a time of need
So I found an 84 goldwing aspencade for 900 bucks only thing that doesn't work is the radio is it worth getting, I currently drive a 87 vt800c shadow
I just love the way it starts up
After wanting a gold wing since I was 18 i finally got one! 1976 1000cc still fully dressed. It runs but wont pull itself, im going to try some sea foam and maybe toss the exhaust in the fire pit... I really dont want to take the carbs off if I dont have to. Im more of a moped guy, this is a bit more complex
How do you compare that to the newer ones?
Love my 89 1500 227280 miles still going strong just keep them maintained and will run forever 💙
I did not like how you messed with the truck twice in the end. However in your honest opinion: GL1500 vs GL1800?
I need that plastic piece just to the left of the handlebars that covers the wires. Mine has lost a few tabs and wants to come off. Do you know where I can find that piece? I'm not sure what it's even called
How many miles is too much for a used Goldwing?
Guy at the bike show had 250k. Even if you got 1/2 that, it would take a while to get that many.
I knew a guy in the Chicago area, that had just under 500,000 miles on his Wing when a car rear ended him while stopped at a traffic light. The car was doing 60mph at the time. The bike was totaled, and the operator ended up with a broken back.
Robert Heinkel did your friend recover from the broken back?
That's the damn Millennium Falcon.
It is already sold but may be not sold yet?
ur panel is probably falling off because the rubber grommets it slides into are probably worn try putting some insulating tape around the prongs that go into the rubber grommets that should hold it.
I'm about to buy 87 gold wings what do you think are they pretty good that year it's very nice everything works on it it starts at night music works what do you think is 1800 a good deal
Did you ever change the rear tire on these ? It is not a mountain bike …
I bought a 2000 goldwing for $400, it runs and rides great. Im building a Cafe racer out of it.
Got an an 89 gl 1500, a pain in the ass to do simple maintenance, that's why they are available for such good prices
Lol. You're the only one who thinks so. They don't require much maintenance anyway.
Would it be possible to record these videos at at wider angle? Its kinda distracting. If it’s a newish GoPro, you should be able to change the field of view in the settings.
What is it about gold wings in videos being in PA? I saw the road and was like why does this remind me of Lancaster county 😅
So is it a 89 or 91?
Just bought a 89 gold wing for 3,000 got 22,000 something on it . Had to replace radiators on it very clean bike
I'm currently looking at a 91 1500 with matching trailer. It has 27000 miles on it. What should I look for? It's in beautiful condition and runs great. Any common problems with them?
You don't need reverse? Where do you ride? Flatland? Also, I'd love a ninetyone year old Goldwing. Is this meant to be a serious review?
May not be doing a high enough speed for cruise control to work
Cruise control. top left button turns it on, bottom right button sets. The panel was missing the rubber grommets (easy fix).
2:10 pay attention to intersections. 🙈
“I had a ton of GoldWings. Huh, where’s the reverse? Oh here it is”
I thought the same thing. I’ve had a ton of goldwings ok let me see how the Cruze control works,, um I’m um not sure how it works I’m saying I don’t know how to use it.. again folks I’ve owned a ton of goldwings and I’m biased when it comes to goldwings lmao
Is it sold yet?
How many times has the odometer rolles?
Hi, is this still available?
If you buy an old Goldwing change the timing belts asap!!
every 5 years.... regardless of mileage. same with tires, 5 years... they are gone. car tire???? on back for MORE mileage? 175 65 16? 195 60 16 last for .... 35,000 miles? bike tires 827# weight limit... on an 800#+++ bike??? car tires 1100#+ weight limit. 32 PSI is plenty in tires, don't let tire shop.... buffalo u into ITS GOT TO HAVE MAX PRESSURE IN TIRES!!!!! OUR SHYSTERS TOLD US THAT!!!! Read the GD owners manual... 32/32 unless got 2 ppl on the bike then 42 in rear tire. unless u like it to ride like a Conestoga wagon with iron wheels. I like to have some RUBBER on the ground to stop and turn, more so that an inch of rubber when aired up to OH MY ACHING BACK 42 psi. Yes the tire wont last forever, check it often... as should do anyway and nuts/bolts especially after mechanic has worked on it as need BLUE thread lock on brake bolts to keep them from falling out (don't ask how I know this). MotoGP riders.... ~18 PSI to HAMMER ON IT out of the turns... in ~40 lap races... that Dunlop guarantees the MotoGP tires for... 20 laps? with 140# jockey on 250# bike that has 250 HP and goes to 19,000+ RPMs. Repsol Honda can be steered (somewhat) carrying the back tire into the turns, the others (engineers) haven't quite figured that one out
Do you run ethanol gas in this old bike?
