    I recently met a gnarly old hippy on a mid 80's Goldwing. It had over 600k miles on the clock, still on the original engine and never had any real problems. Most of the miles were done in Europe and Africa so they weren't easy miles

    Yes I want heated grips, a nice soft suspension, full body wind protection, shaft drive, cruise control, chair ergos, a large comfortable 2up seat, ABS, and DCT. A Wing is the only option and if I find one for the right price I’ll jump on it.

    I saw one of these Honda Gold Wings when they first came out in 1975. Some young marine had one with his wife or GF sitting behind him. The bike was so quiet. I wondered why they would put an ultra smooth engine suitable for a small car in a motorcycle. Some guys had mechanical problems with those early Gold Wings, engine overheating and other assorted complaints. I heard of one guy who bought one of those first Gold Wings back in 1975 and his bike was an absolute total lemon. It spent more time in the shop being fixed than it did being ridden.

      All major brand motorcycles incorporate to one degree or another variety of automotive components. Honda, being a major auto manufacturer, is well situated to take advantage of this synergy. And since it's in house, it's well suited to benefit from the economics. Even Harley-Davidson, with it's historic relationship with Ford Motor Co. benefits from the automotive crossover.

We used to race each other from stop light to stop light. Of course, the Gold Wing would spank my 650. His bike had cool features like dual front disks and a drive shaft. The only problem it had was blue smoke at startup if the bike was left on its side stand. Apparently, some oil would leak into the cylinders on one side. He always had to remember to use the center stand. Then the exhaust didn't blow blue smoke at startup.

    the Gold Wing's gym buff brother the Valkyrie is an absolute monster. very, very rough on back tyres. not sure why? lol. Like a VMAX. i would love one but in OZ dollars they might as well be $400,000 at the moment. how do these compare with the FJR1300? BTW. Mongo's Gold Wing has 780,000 kms (almost 500,00 in freedum units) on it and still doesn't use oil.

    The new generation goldwing has outstanding real-world gas mileage. Have heard of many cases getting 40-45 us mpg
    Given the massive 1832cc, high weight, flat 6 and shaft drive, that's incredible efficiency

    • @wingandhog
      @wingandhog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mine is a previous Gen and I average around 41MPG on the open road. About 38 city

    • @someguy9520
      @someguy9520 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @wingandhog thats quite good
      I see many that get more like 40mpg and less. Some even go to 33mpg and lower.
      Thats one of the reasons why I will not change my NT700 for a 1st gen GL1800. Yes. 25L tank. But at 40mpg and maybe worse with my riding style, it results in less range than my 19.7L and my 45-50mpg

    • @wingandhog
      @wingandhog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@someguy9520 No doubt. I think the mileage results depends on how someone rides. On the open road, I usually clip along around 75-80mph and am not typically hard on my bike. Usually for most Wing owners, gas mileage is not a major consideration. Comfort and dependability is. But getting 45-50mpg is excellent for your bike which is also an excellent machine.

    • @someguy9520
      @someguy9520 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @wingandhog with the NT700, it kinda doesn't. If I baby it, i get my 4.7L/100km or 50mpg. If I constantly go on the highway with 160-170km/h or 100-105mph, i still get 5.6L/100km or 42mpg in the worst case
      On backroads, i don't go any faster than 60-80mph, I ride with a heavy right wrist, but i also use a lot of engine braking and ride with momentum
      I get that many don't care about the mileage, but paying between 6.8$/gal to 8$/gal is very expensive for 15,000 miles per year with that mileage. Dependability is ridiculous. Locally, they have 170.000miles and still charge 10.000$.
      The only bike I would change my Deauville for would be a 2018+ DCT Goldwing with all the options. All other bikes just don't offer all that much more from purely touring aspects, especially for the money. My NT700 cost me only 3700$

    • @wingandhog
      @wingandhog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@someguy9520 …that is ridiculously expensive. I get that. Are you in Europe? That would explain those costs. Here in the USA where I live, we pay $3.20 USD per gallon. It was $1.85 prior to Biden

    I want a 3/4 scale touring bike. Like can i have an 800cc with touring suspension that's NOT an adventure bike lifted out the roof. Like i rode a BMW R1200RS the other week and it rode amazingly. But i don't need the huge boxer engine, I'd be fine with just an 800 or so parallel twin and keep the weight under 600 pounds and seat height close to 30"

      Yamaha Tracer 9 GT or GT+ maybe? 890 cc (triple), 117 hp, 68 lb-ft, 492# wet, 32.2" (low) seat height, includes side cases.... This seams to meet your criteria other than the seat being a bit over 30", and it is still much lower than most of the seats on the tall ADV bikes you referred to. Plus, that CP3 engine is sweet.

      Agreed. I just upgraded to a 2023 Indian Pursuit from my ‘19 C90 B.O.S.S., which I totally loved. Reliable, powerful, confident in most all conditions and terrain, I loved that thing. Not sure why he neglected to mention the C90 since it is closer to the GW in engine size….(or why he had to dump on the C50 for that matter)….maybe b/c they don’t manufacture the C90 anymore? But the Boulevard was my first return to motorcycling after my teenage run with the 1976 Honda 125 CB. I’ll remember that 2019 Suzuki fondly.
