Adam , i have just done the same rear end works on my sierra 4x4 cosworth, which involved refurbishing the rear drive shafts with new boots and a repaint , as the driveshaft lobro joints were externally rusty i cleaned these up and refilled these as you have with the external groove against the rubber gaiter, this has resulted in a slight rear end knocking noise that matched the road speed coming from the diff / drive shafts , as part of the rear end works the diff was also refreshed After a bit of searching the ford manual shows hat these groves on the lobro joints go to the outer edge , i am going to change mine around this week and see if it stops the slight rear end knocking noise .
Nice one, great job, might be best putting a coating on the CV joint machined outer surface, its a nice shiny silver now, but in a couple of weeks they will be a rusty mess, I'm a bit ocd though ha
Every dollar saved by refurbishing rather than buying (unnecessary new) makes it easier/more economical for you and still have a great car…. Because you know you’ve done it right.. keep on keeping on bro..

Used to love winding up a guy called mick, on Mondays, During football season. Yeah ive used those JR kits for years. Good value and very satisfying DIY job especially on a split boot that could fail the MOT. One thing is those pliers you used for the clips check the squashed up ends dont foul on anything when the shaft is turned......my tool crushes the ends but also flattens them at the same time otherwise they catch probably on the ABS sensor (not a Ford mind)
I remember years ago when I was managing a car parts shop and a guy came in after something and said he'd been recommended to put graphite grease in a cv joint. I told him to go home, dismantle the cv and throughly remove all traces of the stuff. No idea if he did and never saw him again.
The Ebayscort cosworth, good job on the refurbs, do you think the eBay parts are of good quality? Also what bhp will they take so they dont snap when the engine is tuned? Good luck, enjoying watching this build

Own an RS you buy genuine Ford Parts only unless proved better than manufacturer buy cheap shit end up breaking and doing more damage than started with he thinks wants 500bhp not using crappy copy parts as won't take power or abuse I'd have finished car not put plasters over a scab till can be arsed doing right could twist shell etc
10:18 I dont think thats the right clamp for that boot, looks like it needs a thinner one that should fit in the groove and not over the end of the rubber boots lip.

The CV Joint end doesn’t need a clip they’re already sealed, you only need the small clip on the shaft end of the boot

You need the ones with a centre foot to stop the clip arching in the middle
Agree. When crimped like that they tend to open up after a bit. Just had to re do a set cos of this.
Here for this comment, those piers are for the removable clips. You use them one way to remove, turn them round to install.
