The Master always looks very happy with himself when he removes his disguises. Like he’s very proud of the time and effort that he put into making the costumes and inventing the characters. Well done Master, very creative indeed.

Then going back to the dawn of the planet and devise a fiendish plot to capture a marvel-of-the-distant-future Concorde supersonic jet!!! and drag it back into the past.. ...via use of fiendish and devilish incantations What a big bad meanie that guy is.

The weird mix of freaky (if you are around 7 years old with that synth music and the weird ideas - plasmatons, indeed) and everyone trying to hold their mirth in while acting it all out. Wondering whether Ainley made those incantations up on the hoof (which drew a near giggle-fit from Davison) or whether he memorised them from the script.
I remember watching this episode when it was new. When Kalid first appeared & began speaking, I remember thinking that I was convinced immediately that he was actually the Master in disguise. There was just something about his speech pattern, & that chin.😎
Funny story: I was showing this story to my dad (whom is a big sci-fi fan that wanted to get into Classic Who), and the second he saw "Khalid" he said 'is that the Master?'. I didn't answer, but when the Master unmasked himself my dad just looked at me like 'called it!'.

Khalid wa sneve rintended ever to be a disguise for the Master who was never meant to be even in this story Khalid was originally intended to be the principal villain in this story controlled by the evil Zeraphin spirit Zarak who took over the Zeraphin race and Khalid was just a creation of Zarak. This story was also originally a Tom baker story and apparently UNIT were to be in the original script for Time Flight.
Whenever the Master stays in one spot and makes up an evil plan, the Doctor always shows up sooner or later. He doesn't just want to conquer the universe; the Master wants to troll the Doctor along the way, and donning an elaborate disguise for the sole purpose of it falling off and going "hahahaha it was me all along!" is all part of the fun.

The only bit of media that links them is that FASA roleplaying game from the 80s, but novels and Big Finish have said otherwise. I was onboard with the idea of the Meddling Monk and/or War Chief being the Master years ago, but it doesn't appeal to me now; it just makes the Whoniverse seem a lot smaller. Don't get me wrong, I like recurring villains when done well. It's just that it's been very easy for the series to overuse the Master even without retconning other people into being him. When he came back during Chibnall’s era, it just felt too soon for me after Missy. The Monk, War Chief, Omega, Morbius, Borusa, Rani…. you can have the Doctor fight a different Time Lord enemy! Also, I feel that this retcon would make Roger Delgado’s great debut feel less special; “Here’s the Master! He’s suave, debonair and menacing…. He’s also that berk who got his TARDIS sabotaged by the Doctor twice and then shot so this is actually your 4th time seeing him”.
As a kid... I had no idea who khalid was being acted by, so the reveal was pretty surprising... cant do that now days thanks to the Internet, such a pitty really...

If the twist here is to signify how particularly devious the Master could be as a Master of disguise, certainly given the disguise twist for Simm's Master in S10, then otherwise bad Dr. Who stories like this may be looked upon better in retrospect. I admit that its reason was significant enough for Ainley's Master's surprise return after his apparent demise at the end of Castrovalva. It may depend on points of view but I think it deserves that much positive feedback. But I've been on record for years about The King's Demons being MY vote for Ainley's best as the Master, certainly with Davison's Doctor.

He utilizes masks and wigs and all sorts of disguises frequently. I was glad to see a callback to him in the Simm Master twist at the end of S10.

Time flight's always been one of my favourite stories. Loved the Concorde stuff, Khalid, Captain Stapley's boys. Only the Plasmatons and the prehistoric earth that lets it down. Roger Limb's incidental music, he never puts out a bad score.
Just something magical (same goes for the *proper* (Steed and company) *Avengers* ) about the earth-based scenes with very English characters, all done on film rather than video I admit to slightly ruing the digital re-mastering that has eliminated the scratches and spots and the jumping frames that are the hall-marks of physical editing of film. I remember DW of this era and earlier (just like the Proper Avengers) having this (unintended but probably inevitable at the time) feature on all of its film-work. *Time-Flight* was memorably quite 'bad' (ie good) on the way the film looked quite worn out.
In the original script forthis story the principal villain was never going to be the Master it was to have been Zarak the evil Zeraphin spirit who took over the race and created a monstrous character in the shape of the chinaman and magician Kalid to manipulate and control the Zeraphin race who were greater in number in Peter Grimwade,s original script which was neve r ever intended to feature the Master as the principal villain and this story would have been millions and billions of times better without the Master as the villain and also Time Flight first came about on 24th march 1980 well before Tom Baker had announced his retirement from Dr Who. Time Flight was down as a possible Tom Baker story for season 18 but there were issues getting the script written when originally submitted but this story ghastly and crap as it is would have not been spoilt by including the Master as the villain of the story.
I could suspend a lot of disbelief on this episode but the Concord landing without a runway was pushing it too far. Trying to land that plane there would have killed everyone aboard.
i honestly don't get why everyone hates this episode so much. sure it's convoluted but not more than a lot of other who stories. i liked that the doctor immediately thought to involve unit and that the other characters mostly believed him instead of blaming him for everything like what usually happens. and i didn't pick up on kalid being the master at all, i was completely fooled

They are servants for the one who brought them all here. When they get into his lair, they discover it's a renegade Time Lord who needs to harness an unstable power to survive. He is unmasked and the Doctor is shocked to realise who he is. So, basically, Time Flight is the same plot as The Three Doctors, with a Concorde and the Master instead of a weather balloon and Omega.
Sorry the consensus from almost every Review page and discussion page on Timeflight state how much of a Turkey it was. Its not just my opinion. Also around about the time that Peter D was the Doctor the show had definetly moved past that 'for childen' routes and whilst it wasnt specifically aimed at adults it certain had more than a few watching. I think it was clever that it was the Master as it was a Reveal that wasn't hinted with any prior character anagram... as with Keeper of Traken we had Tremas and later on in The Kings Demons the fans would get Sir Gilles Estram... besides, the episodes were about four parts and during that time they had been given Monarch, the Mara, the Terreliptils, a experimental pure historical and the Cybermen up until then... so to raise spirits (and possibly try to fill in a loose end with Matthew Waterhouse's contract) they had the Master and used Adric as a illusion against Nyssa and Tegan.

Tom Baker will always be the #1 doctor in my book. For he was in the role longer than anyone and watching him on my childhood on WTTW Channel 11 Chicago.
I was gutted when Tom left but strangely enough my outstanding memories of Peter’s era were: Adric in the web Castrovalva Black Orchid in general A wounded Cyberman Earthshock The Master’s iron maiden Tardis The King’s Demons The face in the wall The Awakening The cat under the blanket Resurrection Of The Daleks Peter brought a vulnerability to the Doctor, a feeling that maybe things weren’t going to work out fine. There are so many stories where the outcome is ok or neutral or even not as bad as it could be Castrovalva, Kinda, The Visitation, Black Orchid, Time-Flight, Arc If Infinity, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Enlightenment, The King’s Demons, The Five Doctors, Resurrection Of The Daleks and The Caves Of Androzani all have underwhelming victories or non-losses. That’s 13 of 21 with arguably more. Compared to modern Nu Who where to quote Mr Ecclestone “Everybody lives” and all the monsters are scared of the Doctor. Peter’s era is far more gritty and balanced.

@@JoesAnimationHub I really would have said Khalid would have worked out better in millions of as a villain in his own right not a disguise for the Master who really in this story and some other stories like Kings Demons Mark of the Rani and also Trial of Time Lord and like the arch-villain Servalan in Blake's Seven both villains were in stories that they really are poorly utilised in and wasted
After Tom left the series went down the drain.
Tom Baker will always be the #1 doctor in my book. For he was in the role longer than anyone and watching him on my childhood on WTTW Channel 11 Chicago.
Nah not really I much prefer Peter Davison’s seasons than Tom Baker 2nd last and final seasons.
I was gutted when Tom left but strangely enough my outstanding memories of Peter’s era were:
Adric in the web Castrovalva
Black Orchid in general
A wounded Cyberman Earthshock
The Master’s iron maiden Tardis The King’s Demons
The face in the wall The Awakening
The cat under the blanket Resurrection Of The Daleks
Peter brought a vulnerability to the Doctor, a feeling that maybe things weren’t going to work out fine. There are so many stories where the outcome is ok or neutral or even not as bad as it could be
Castrovalva, Kinda, The Visitation, Black Orchid, Time-Flight, Arc If Infinity, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Enlightenment, The King’s Demons, The Five Doctors, Resurrection Of The Daleks and The Caves Of Androzani all have underwhelming victories or non-losses. That’s 13 of 21 with arguably more. Compared to modern Nu Who where to quote Mr Ecclestone “Everybody lives” and all the monsters are scared of the Doctor. Peter’s era is far more gritty and balanced.
I agree mind you Earthsock with the CYbermen coming back was superb and awesome in trillions ofways
This story is just incredibly misjudged, I jus put together a review of the story if anyone wants to check it out
I grew up in the 80s as a teenager loved doctor who the episodes now are rubbish ridiculous 🇦🇺✌️🇦🇺🇦🇺
