The whole appeal of these guys, to me, is time listen to their reasoning and experience and basing how you think against them to see if you agree or not. Plenty of times the things they love are things I hate, or vice versa. Just "these games are overrated, trust us. You don't need to form an opinion of your own." doesn't make sense to me.
I sense a lot of gamers with bunched up panties because their favorites are getting trashed by these three guys. I say get over it. It's a subjective list. It's THEIR opinion. You don't need to agree with them. I don't necessarily agree with this list. But it's fun to see how others feel about these games.
***** No whats weird is they rate these games so high on there reviews, and then put them on these lists. Tom said eclips was game of the year, and even gave it an award. Now its on this list??? That doesnt make any sense.
trickykid3000 Remember (as I told you on another video), that it got Game of the Year from the Dice Tower Awards committee. That doesn't mean that I personally think it deserved it. :)
I was so happy to see 24:45! I can't agree more about Settlers of Catan. That game is mediocre and I am tired of hearing about how fantastic it is. I have a few board game friends who play that game far too often at the expense of trying new things.
+MrIronJustice I agree so much. I shun people who just like catan and nothing else. Someone went as far to say that Catan is the monopoly of this generation. BARF!
20:40... If only Tom had known the exact same thing would happen with the Cthulhu mythos. Every freaking game and expansion and re-print and Kickstarter.... Put Cthulhu in it and it will sell. It's this year's zombies theme. It's ridiculous.
pradafang sorry for bumping this incredibly old thread, but I'm new to this hobby and own mansions of Madness, Arkham horror and the LCG. Which if any of these in your opinion should I prioritize when it comes to expanding?
@@TheUtopisk I disagree. It was very real and very honest. You can easily see that when you see them and the crowd reacting to each other's personal choices.
@@pietrorasputin52 when you have watched a couple of houndred videos and livestreams.. AND met them IRL.. you know when they are honest reactions and when they "play" to make it fun to the crowd.. and yeah... This wasent honest reactions.. more a good show for the crowd. I know these guys very well by now of all of years with livestreams and all houndreds of videos
I don't really like Settlers of Catan, but I don't think it's overrated. I think it's just more common because so many copies are produced so it shows up on shelves of stores that don't typically sell heavyweight games, like Target. It's more commercialized and well known, not overrated.
The person that said Dixit was overrated doesn't even know how to play the game. The game doesn't even involve someone comparing two pictures and choosing which looks closest to his.
@@hypnoticsorin8016 that's a matter of perspective. Their minis are high quality, on par with games workshop. The real question is what does "over-priced" mean? Simply how expensive it is? or value-for-money?
Cards Against Humanity is fucking brilliant -- a brilliant way to make a metric $#!7-ton of cash on simply being vulgar and minimizing your costs to a ridiculous degree ... Don't get me wrong - I have played the game and enjoyed it -- But as soon as it became huge- Every idiot and his mother tried to copy it being the coolest party game by trying to work in the same theme to their version of being "improper". The fastest way to get shouted down into obscurity on boardgame design forums is to suggest that your game is "Kinda like CAH".
Started watching your videos recently, have to say that i have very much enjoyed the content, i was first a bit sad it was just 3 people in front of a camera , but the synergy you guys have is just too amazing to not watch. Also liked the part when Sam said Cosmic encounters ( my favorite game to date ) you guys got up and were like OH HELL NO make me laugh so hard :D . For short : Keep up the good job guys , and i'll watching your videos + Tabletop to help my boardgame collection grow.
My overrated game is Codenames. People rave about it and it gets brought out all of the time but I just don't get what the excitement is all about. I just don't find it fun
I love CAH and Munchkin, 2 games where I don't have to care about winning to have a good time. But CAH is probably not for the majority of subscribers to this channel and I understand that.
I'd say Catan is underrated right now. It's the popular thing now to hate on the game. But it's very well designed and is a rare euro game where you can greatly affect the other players. Plus it's simple. Anyone that says they have a better game than Catan that game will be far more complex. Complexity doesn't necessarily make a game good.
Only one I strongly disagree with these guys on is Clasutrophobia. Man, that is one excellent game. His main issue seems to be with the theme, which I suppose is legitimate, but man that game can get really tense.
And of course everyone realises, that if a game is overrated, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad game, could be bad for some people, but overrated basically means it gets more credit than it deserves. And even though I like Dominion, it's an OK game, I feel it's hugely overrated. But it's just subjective opinion.
+Phil Dinius I don't know, every time I mention deck-building, the first thing I hear is Dominion. And it's something people tend to compare other deck-builders to. So maybe it's not raved about anymore, but it still stays as some idol of the genre. I'm not actually complaining much, but it sometimes can get a bit annoying if you hear that for the 110th time :)
my top pic for overrated game is timestories I played it two times, once a convention short mission with pirates once a Lovecraftian horror asylum mission both shared the same problems: So the game pretents like it's this roleplaying thing, löike different characters have different attributes and you can choose different routes and make smart decisions. In my experience you have NO idea which card can actually further the storyx, no way to know what is actually making sense. You decide to talk to some person in the room, you think maybe you can ask them about the situation or what ever but then you turn around the card and it turns out it was a total waste of time and there is actually nothing possible. there are so many red herings it's frustrating to play over and over because you followed one red hering, it ate all your time and you think You MUST be on the right way because more monsters keep coming etc and then time runs out just before you THINK you get to this great miystery, so what do you do the next try around? Follow the same stupid red hering, waste basically the whole try just to find out that it was a red herring all along!!! There is NO roleplaying because it doesn'tz matter which role you play, all cards say the same thing for anyplayer that turnsthem around, it's so stupid!
Wait, have I played zombicide wrong? I thought that a scope on a rifle makes it a sniper rifle and allows you to choose your targets so you don't hit a survivor first.
I love these videos. One of my favorite parts of them is the way you guys can argue without being angry at each other. Great example of arguing without fighting. Keep it up.
My pick for most over rated game is Pandemic. I never feel like I'm actually playing anything. Because everyone knows what each character is best at and there is a clear best move each round, I don't get any input on what to do. I may as well go in the other room and make a sandwich. I don't have to be present at all for my character to be played.
+Ambaa Choate (Carolyn) I own/played several co-op/semi-coop games i.e. Lord of the Rings, Forbidden Desert, Forbidden island, Elder Sign, Doom, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Middle Earth Quest, Touch of Evil and Pandemic and for some reason I find Pandemic to be the most susceptible to quarterbacking. This is at least purely from my anecdotal evidence based point of view. Even with games that usually lean towards obvious best moves like Forbidden Desert/Island I find they all seem to offer a little more independence to the owner of the character than Pandemic does.
The issue you have described is there for any cooperative game. You need to 1. Find a better game group 2. Start getting involved more in the process while playing coop games
That's the problem with most co-ops. People decide what the best option is for your character and expect you to do it. If you like co-ops try the ones where there is no time for discussion (Xcom) or one with hidden roles, objectives (dead of winter)
Nah. While quarterbacking is an issue in most co-op games, it most definitely is more prominent in Pandemic. Like Agricola, Pandemic popularized its genre, but it's LONG been surpassed by better games. Everyone recognizes there's no point to playing Agricola anymore, why not Pandemic? That's why it's one of the most overrated games ever.
Apparently Sam doesn't understand Zombicide... he says if you have a scope, you should be able to shoot zombies and not survivors. Um, that IS one of the rules: if you draw a scope you can equip it to your rifle. Now you can be selective of targets. Derp!
24:30 couldn't agree more! I'd put it much higher too! But I'm still glad it exists. Catan is vital to the future of boardgames! Catan is THE gateway boardgame. I know dozens of people who owe their deeper interest in boardgames to Catan.
I love Zee angrily "And that's number TEN!!" And you know there are a ton of people getting all kinds of worked up because these guys' opinions are not matching theirs LOL
This was hilarious. Thank you guys. I'm slowly expanding my board game collection and your contrasting opinions are wide experience are a huge help in choosing what to get.
The good thing about Loopin Louie is that you can play it even if you are very, very drunk. When people have gotten too drunk for other games, pull out Loopin Louie. It it simple as fuck, yet surprisingly dexterity-skillbased.
cindy tang Dead of winter is definitely a game you have to play with the right people, I find it to be pretty good with the 2 other guys I typically play with. The same could be said for Eldritch horror. Both games are long, too. I've had an eldritch horror game last well over 4 hours. I find that people who dont like these games dont like the themes (lovecraft or zombies) or don't know how to play co-op games to their fullest potential.
I dont know if that is sarcasm or not, but every game caters to a specific group (or groups) of people. People who LOVE games like Axis and Allies and Risk, typically dont like games like apples to apple or dixit because they arent strategy games in the sense like A&A is. Same goes for people who like classic games like monopoly or sorry, they have a really tough time getting into heavy games like TI3 or Arkham horror. dead of winter and eldritch horror are the same. Both are heavy co-op games. If you never played them or get into the genre, you might say their overrated, but I bet if you played both along with other co-ops, you will find they both bring new elements to the co-op scene.
Great video, good to see them being honest and not sucking up. Some I disagree with, my main turn off is if you have to read the instructions still after 5 plays then its too complicated
I completely agree about CAH. Terrible game, not funny, not fun, boring, offensive. Anyone mentions CAH, I tell 'em straight up, "you know good games exist, right? I guess not, cuz you mentioned CAH."
IMO - I completely disagree about CAH. Awesome game, funny, fun, entertaining, not offensive. Anyone acts like their opinion is universally right and better than others, I tell 'em straight up, "you know people have opinions too, right? I guess not, because you're making a conceited ass of yourself over yours."
The Dice Tower What are the games that are better than settlers of catan? I'm curious, and if you wouldn't mind could you give a main theme/reason why?
This was one of the most entertaining vids the Dice Tower has put out. Fantastic fun! I loved the opinions, the banter, and even the threats. Tom, if you're still alive, keep up the good work!
This video was a lot of fun to watch. Really enjoyed it and had loads of laughs even though I can count on one hand the number of board games known to me.
I was positive it would show up. I don't mind Munchkin at all, it's a light fun game for 3 or 4 players.. But I wouldn't go out of my way to play it, and I totally see the hate people have for it.
-Here is a list of my favorite board games based on playing/ watching walkthrough's (I don't have all of them yet): -The resistance (expansions hidden agenda and hostile intent are good). This is like werewolf except much better -Princes of Florence. This is those resource collection games like Catan but better, less luck, and less ability to gang up on somebody -Shadowhunters (this is like bang, coup, but both combined and much better) -Dead of winter (this is like pandemic but it has the possibility of a possible traitor, everyone has team goals and individual goals. So it's waaay better than pandemic) -Deception: murder in hong kong (clue with a social interactionist aspect) -Trajan (this is a strategy board game that is like a game within a game within a game)
Okay, the thing is that if you're a board game fan, you have to RESPECT Catan. Maybe you don't like Catan, but it's the same way how even anime fans who don't like DBZ still have to respect it because of what it did for the medium. Personally, I think Catan is a masterpiece. Specifically, it's a masterpiece because it's simple, yet deep. I love games that take minutes to teach but have such intricate strategies that you're constantly finding new ways to play. On top of that, it's one of the reasons and board games exploded in recent years so even if you don't give it your love, it still must command your respect.
Brilliant video. I quite enjoyed the format and topic. It's nice to hear 'not so popular views'. It inspires thought and discussion. Please do more of this sort of thing and quit being so scared of what everyone else thinks.
Zee sounds like George Carlin when he's making his case against Agricola =). Having played a lot of boardgames as well (though not 3000) my pick for most over-rated game is: MUNCHKIN. /RANT START!!!! Yes it's got a decent theme and it can be mildly amusing (funny the first time, old after that) but it's a game that is completely irrelevant and more often than not based around luck. I don't understand what the point is of the game. Yes I know it's whoever hits level 10 first but the game plays such that the first 9 levels are completely irrelevant. You play with your buds and for the most part you don't really care what they do until they hit level 9. You can virtually snooze through the game to this point, and wake up when someone does. At this point it's all about ganging up on this one person and the more people that play this game at once, the more the luck factor increases and the harder it becomes to actually legitimately win. And in the process of stopping this one person others inevitably make it to level 9 too. This goes on until everyone has been or is level 9 at some point or another. And now it's all about the luck factor - drawing the right combination of cards to thwart the other players. The more players there are however the more power they will have to stop you at every turn. Nearly every game of Munchkin I have played lasted way longer than it ever should have. Just about every time I've played or have seen this game played the game has ended due to players giving up on account of begin bored with how long all this has gone on, or players teaming up and offering to assist one particular player to nab the win because they just. want. the game. to be. over with. In my opinion that's not fun, that's not winning, that's a piss poor game that's got some serious end game issues. And to top it all off you've got one of the worst rules in any game ever created: Whoever owns the game is the ultimate authority on any disputes. As I mentioned in another one of the Dice Tower vids this is the "It's My Yard" rule back from when you played tag in your friends yard and the game stopped going in his/her favor. It's a terrible game that doesn't deserve a fraction of the fame and fortune it's garnered over the years. /RANT END!
Could not agree more. I bought a bunch of the sets because they were on sale for super cheap clearance pricing, and only because my friends like it, but after playing them a handful of times I still regret even spending the little money I did on it.
I have a friend from a different gaming group who also played a lot of munchkin with his friends. Not as much as my group, but a fair amount. He made many similar claims, 'all luck' 'whoever gets to 9 first never wins' etc. Our group has played over 100 games of Munchkin, maybe 200. I disagreed, and finally one faithful camping trip we get to mix it up. He never won. Not even close. In fact, only two different people (out of 8) won any games. Myself and a friend. His group just didn't understand the game. They sat around playing cards, racing to 9. Then they would throw bad stuff at each other, complain a bit, and one of them would randomly win. They would even complain if they didn't hit 9 first. So if you hit 9 first, you're upset because no one who hits 9 first never wins, and if you don't hit 9 first, you complain because 'it's not fair!'. Maybe, *gasp* hitting 9 first should not be a priority? You surely don't want to sit at 1 all day either, but like any bluffing game, you want people to think you don't have the means to win, while actually having.. the means to win. It's all about calculating this means. Yes, Munchkin is a bluffing game. My friend's group didn't get this, either. I remember an early example of this that weekend: 'Hey you can't kill that monster, and no one else can... but I can. The problem is... I need to use 3 cards just to beat it. So, I'll need all of the treasure.'' 'Really?' 'Yeah' 'Oh... okay. I guess it's worth gaining a level and only fair if you have to lose all of your cards' 'Exactly' 'Let's get that monster!' 'Okay I use this card to win' 'Hey that's only one card' 'Yeah.' 'But you said 3 cards' 'I guess you learned something, now pay up' And many other things, like threatening bad stuff for treasure. They never did these things, things are at the heart and core of the game. I'm not saying Munchkin is the best game ever. It's not. But there are many people who never get passed the most basic interpretation of the rules for various reasons. Yes you bluff, you threaten and you're an dick in Munchkin.
I looked around on boardgamegeek and I couldn't find the total rankings page if there is one that these guys are talking about. Is it there and I'm blind or can someone post the link in the reply.
People will kill me, but Pandemic would top my list so very hard. I own a copy of the game, but try as I might to make the game exciting, the response to it has always been mixed at best. After playing Forbidden Island by the same designer, this game feels very lacking compared to it, and I have a problem with that stupid rule where you can only exchange cards if you and the partner are in that exact city at the same time. And then there's the ending - the Sopranos of the Board Game World, if you will - even Forbidden Island had you leaping on to a helicopter as the island around you collapses, which made you feel like a badass! This game? Makes you feel like you didn't accomplish anything, really. Like, "That's it?" Sorry, folks. Respect if you love Pandemic, it's a quality game, I'm sure, but I simply do not see how this game topped people's 'Best of" lists two years ago. MANY games are much better than this.
Most overrated game for me is: Pandemic. Really? All you do is calculate the probabilities and hope you get the right cards. That's it. It was fun the first time, but the second and third time, you're already sick of it. Where's the game? Where's the replayability? Even after buying the expansion, it still feels the same. Then you immediately regret it. Sorry Zee, Pandemic sucks.
WH40K is easily the #1 most overrated game. It's not that it's a BAD game, it just ain't that good. People spend a fortune in time and money on that thing.
Yeah, but frankly, it's so much its own thing that nobody's going to suggest to a boardgaming group "hey, let's all paint miniatures for ten hours, set up bases for an hour then play Warhammer for two hours" as opposed to, say, Catan or Ticket to Ride or ... pretty much any board game. It's like trying to decide to play Dungeons and Dragons vs. Sorry - they're such different things that such a choice simply won't happen.
I totally agree with all that. I wouldn't ordinarily have brought up wargaming, but one of the guys put 40k on their list of "10 Games Not To Play With Angry People" so I figured it was fair game.
I wouldn't really include 40k in a list of these kinds of games since it's a collectible miniatures game and you have to actually build your army instead of just buying a box and being ready to play; that'd be sort of like including Magic the Gathering in a list of overrated games (which it is). Games Workshop in general is an overrated company, but I will admit that 40k is one of my favorite sci-fi settings. I just don't get why people obsess over its GRIMDARK and all that other stuff. 40k is just a game that I don't really think is that enjoyable to play in any circumstance unless you're willing to go leaps and bounds in order to get it working for you. At least with CCGs you just buy packs of cards or individual cards and build decks. If you want to play any miniatures game like that you have to put a lot of work into it. Miniatures are fun, but I don't play miniature games to make models. I'd buy models if I wanted to make models.
Ordinarily I wouldn't have brought up 40k... but one of the guys put 40k on their list of games not to play with angry people, so I figured 40k was on the table (no pun intended).
I love the banter these guys have with each other. Despite their varying opinions, they're able to comment on how and why they agree or disagree with each other in a light-hearted way.
Monopoly, and it is the one of the games that got worse from each update. Like when it was the landlord game any property you couldn't afford to buy you had to auction off the property, thus draining more money from the players making the game shorter, and you could also win the game by creating a housing shortage, but then Parker Bros. added cards that give you free money and added hotels which disrupt the housing shortage strategy, ended the auction aspect and added "house rules" which is why morons have monetary rewards every time you hit free parking which makes the game super long. Like literally the typical rules that everyone uses breaks the balance of the game and makes it drag out, hence why it's rarely played till the end.
Monopoly STILL says everything about the auction rule, the finite number of houses, no money on free parking, etc. People just don't bother to open the damn rulebook and use stupid ass houserules
I disagree big time on Dominion. Great game along with expansions that add endless combinations making each play basically different and certain strategies being more successful depending on what cards you have out. It's got interaction, theme is really up to you with the cards you have in play, a good player range, and a simplicity that makes it inviting for most people. I'm starting to think its popularity invites an elitist attitude. Going to keep being a great gateway game for years to come.
I've played a lot of Dominion, and have to disagree with you. I can no longer stand it. It's a brilliant game mechanically, but players who want any kind of theme or narrative to be integrated with the game, rather than just tacked on, are going to be sorely disappointed.
@@GrandElemental I'd think of it this way. "Wanna play a deckbuilder?" "Yeah, I love that mechanism." "Dominion?" "Nah, what else do you have?" I feel like that conversation is much more likely to happen with people who want to just have a good time. No need to cling to something that was once great, if there's now much better options out there.
Can't believe Cards against Humanity had to be mentioned by an audience member. What a trump card piece of _________ [Pacman uncontrollably guzzling :/] ...really.... ...really...
I don't think Beardy understood the rules of Dixit... Choosing two cards that are the most alike? Yes, that is how the game would work. If it were called Apples to Apples. No wonder he hates it.
I'm fairly certain that you're right. He's playing Dixit as if it were Apples to Apples. Which is almost the antithesis of what Dixit is trying to accomplish. I do have to say I have to agree with the guy later on who was talking about Sentinels of the Multiverse. May well just call it Counting 1's and 2's: The Game. It turns what should be a fun game into a 1st grade math lesson.
YES YES YES, 1000 times YES! I know that it can be hard to be so critical of games, but this video is exactly the kind of honesty that was needed. We all know that many of the games mentioned, are in fact, good games, but being critical help all the viewers know the difference between between good and GREAT games. Thank you for the honesty! Tom, Zee, Sam...keep up the good work!!! You hearted advice is the best thing you can give us!
Why is Dominion overrated? it's the game I enjoy by far the most. It has interaction, it makes you keep track of both your own and your opponents deck, it can be played with two to six players, while many games you can forget because you're 1 player short or 1 too many, it requires some planning, the games itself are fast, so if you realize you lose you don't sit through a 1 hour session of losing like so many other games, the turns are fast so there's no need to pick up your phone during the other players turns. Sam's only argument is that it's too high on some meaningless list? I'd expect a bit more flesh here.
the basic argument against dominion is how easily replaced it is by literally any other deckbuilder. It has a bare bones theme, and was the first deckbuilder (by definition making it the most basic deckbuilder). All it takes is a game with theme and some neat mechanics, and you have a straight up upgrade on dominion as a whole.
it seems kind of plain imho too. kind of from outside looking in, as i've only watched games of it played. didn't spark enough interest. (and i even found a copy at the thrift store, :P )
quineloe I didn't find there was a whole lot of interaction. Most of the time you don't care what the other players do. Sure if there's an attack card then you can do something to the other players but those aren't always in the game. I find it to be mostly a multi-player solitaire game (like 7 Wonders, glad that was on this list).
If you need a certain deck design for the game to be fun to you, maybe you should set up the deck that way. You're not supposed to random all 10 kingdom cards if that's not your thing.
Just watched this and loved it. The humor of Zee and Sam is awesome in front of a live audience. I love seeing how funny you guys can get when not JUST in front of a camera. It's great. You guys should cut a clip at 30:52 to about 33:49 for Agricola. I own the game and enjoy a play of it from time to time and loved Sam and Zee's comments about why it's overrated. Especially Zee's. I was crying from laughing so hard.
Don't care much for Sam's list. In my 66 years I've played hundreds of board games and Puerto Rico is easily the best I've played. The game is geniusly designed and amazingly well balanced. Its greatest beauty is that it requires an understanding of the direction the game will take... because that can be widely different from one dominated by shipping versus one dominated by quick, massive building. Toward that understanding you will have to glean what the other players are doing, try to play along or block them depending on what strategy you, yourself, deem necessary to employ, block ships, beat others to the buildings you need, anticipate moves in advance.... I've played hundreds of times and I've won with 29 points and lost with 69.... there are multiple paths to victory but those don't seem artificial like, say, in Seven Wonders Duel. Sorry, Sam, but if you don't like Puerto Rico I just don't think you're playing it right. Ha! I also have a problem with your assessment of Lost Cities.... a game of clever construction but it's just a card game... how in the world can it be "overrated"? It's not meant to be heavy stuff, but it sure is meant to be clever... and have I mentioned that it is?

The whole appeal of these guys, to me, is time listen to their reasoning and experience and basing how you think against them to see if you agree or not. Plenty of times the things they love are things I hate, or vice versa. Just "these games are overrated, trust us. You don't need to form an opinion of your own." doesn't make sense to me.
more than 10 years later and still one of my favourite videos on this channel
I love the gradual escalation. It's like all the hype collected in one place to crash in a tsunami and it was glorious.
As a Zee fan, this is Sam at his best. Charismatic and not pandering.
I keep coming back to this video whenever I feel a touch low. Really picks me up :)
You guys really need to do a list like this again. This kind of stuff is beyond entertaining for me!
I get the feeling people in these comments are confusing overrated with bad.
Usually it is.
Definitely not, for example, codenames is a great game for it's concept and design, but IMO overrated for it's gameplay
I sense a lot of gamers with bunched up panties because their favorites are getting trashed by these three guys. I say get over it. It's a subjective list. It's THEIR opinion. You don't need to agree with them. I don't necessarily agree with this list. But it's fun to see how others feel about these games.
Agreed. I enjoyed the video, and my favorite game is Agricola.

Lol, nice catch! :) You are twisting my mind into a pretzel, Vassel. I cant decide whether to pull the trigger on buying Eclipse!!!
The Dice Tower You did explain it well though, and this video itself was really funny. I enjoyed it a lot.
BARF!
If they like it and play it, doesnt that mean its good for them?
I personally don’t like it very much either
Sam cracks me up with the way he says: "...with my SCOPE!!" LOL! 10:28
It's funny as heck when Sam squeeks like a hysterical woman! :-D
This is my favourite episode. So funny to watch them rage.
Especially with Agricola :D
yeah sure but it shows through so hard that is just a play... and its not for real
Same here! My absolute favorite Dice Tower episode...EVER!!
I think this is one of the best or best of the top10 lists. Also it is amusing how most games by Zee and Sam are something Tom seems to like :).
I don't really like Settlers of Catan, but I don't think it's overrated. I think it's just more common because so many copies are produced so it shows up on shelves of stores that don't typically sell heavyweight games, like Target. It's more commercialized and well known, not overrated.
So many games have come out since this list. It would be fun to see them redo some of the older lists now that there's thousands of more games.
They did a top 5 redo along with three others. It's arguably even better than this one.
The person that said Dixit was overrated doesn't even know how to play the game. The game doesn't even involve someone comparing two pictures and choosing which looks closest to his.
How about a "Most Over-Priced-Games"?
Almost all of them. LOL
yeah
@@doomed2063 no.. you just cheap

@@hypnoticsorin8016 that's a matter of perspective. Their minis are high quality, on par with games workshop. The real question is what does "over-priced" mean? Simply how expensive it is? or value-for-money?
Sam - which games are like Settlers of Catan that are better? Honestly curious - would like to look in to them. Thanks!
Cards Against Humanity is a funny game ... the first 15 minutes you play.
+Raffaele Passarelli Right, and its the ONLY THING college people will play. They are Cards Against my Sanity.
Everyone I know who badly wanted to play CAH a 2nd time have been some of the unfunniest people I've known in my life.
The game mechanics are really cool, trying to anticipate how your partner thinks is a fun challenge. That said, there is too much silent waiting.
What's the game that Tom says the name at 29:50 ?
Exodus: Proxima Centauri
thanks man
Only one I strongly disagree with these guys on is Clasutrophobia.
The was the best Top Ten ever made! Love how brutal they all were! More Top Tens like this one!!
my top pic for overrated game is timestories
I played it two times, once a convention short mission with pirates once a Lovecraftian horror asylum mission
both shared the same problems:
So the game pretents like it's this roleplaying thing, löike different characters have different attributes and you can choose different routes and make smart decisions.
+Straddllw I think maybe they'd like the game better with that house rule
+Straddllw I agree. The scope allows you to NOT hit survivors.
+Straddllw It does. he got emotional.
+bloodrunsclear just use the Black Plague house rule too. When you roll the dice, you only hit survivors based on the number of misses you've rolled.
Straddllw Dang it, another thing I have to save up to buy XD
This video got me curious about boardgames and ultimately got me into the hobby. love to revisit it every now and then.
I just love Sam's rant during the Agricola part. XD
What plays better than settlers of catan? just curious im slowing getting into more and more board games.
the guy in a blue polo Nike shirt is hands down one of the most amiable people I have ever seen.
Sounds like an issue with your group instead of the game. Instead of letting everyone make your decision, do it yourself.
You need to
1. Find a better game group
What is the lite version of twilight imperium they suggest? He say it so fast and I don't know how it's spelled :/
+TanteDante Exodus: Proxima Centauri boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/122842/exodus-proxima-centauri
I think this is fun and healthy criticism, All those games are great but overrated at some degree.
This was your best Top Ten yet. The chemistry between you really works! Keep it up!
Apparently Sam doesn't understand Zombicide... he says if you have a scope, you should be able to shoot zombies and not survivors. Um, that IS one of the rules: if you draw a scope you can equip it to your rifle. Now you can be selective of targets. Derp!
In a future top 10 video (can't remember which), Sam acknowledges his error and was pretty sheepish about it.
This video continues to amaze me every time I watch it. A true classic.
How DARE you bad mouth Puerto Rico!!!
24:30 couldn't agree more! I'd put it much higher too! But I'm still glad it exists. Catan is vital to the future of boardgames! Catan is THE gateway boardgame. I know dozens of people who owe their deeper interest in boardgames to Catan.
Ticket to ride is a better gateway
@@andrewellis712no way

This is AWESOME!
The good thing about Loopin Louie is that you can play it even if you are very, very drunk. When people have gotten too drunk for other games, pull out Loopin Louie. It it simple as fuck, yet surprisingly dexterity-skillbased.
i think dead of winter and eldritch horror are totally overrated... just my opinion...
I really like eldritch horror I have to humbly disagree with you
ok
cindy tang Dead of winter is definitely a game you have to play with the right people, I find it to be pretty good with the 2 other guys I typically play with. The same could be said for Eldritch horror. Both games are long, too. I've had an eldritch horror game last well over 4 hours. I find that people who dont like these games dont like the themes (lovecraft or zombies) or don't know how to play co-op games to their fullest potential.
oh i see... games that is designed to specific group of people.... I see.... must be a very clever and well thought out design..
Do you like Apple to Apples?
It's okay. I'll play it if other people want to, but i wouldn't suggest it.
Funny the first few times you play it, but gets old fairly fast
Ben Teskey Somebody's got their knickers in a knot...
The Dice Tower What are the games that are better than settlers of catan? I'm curious, and if you wouldn't mind could you give a main theme/reason why?
One word: Munchkin.
Good one.
ooooooooooooooooooooh yessssssssssssssssssssssss
That's a bad game, but it's not rated highly enough to call it overrated.
Sam is the man. Sam actually understood what "overrated" meant.
I was positive it would show up. I don't mind Munchkin at all, it's a light fun game for 3 or 4 players.. But I wouldn't go out of my way to play it, and I totally see the hate people have for it.
I need the uncensored version of this video.
I'm starting in the world of Board Game and I wanna know, what is a good game (Catan like) to have? (I don't know catan, so, I'm just curious)
-Here is a list of my favorite board games based on playing/ watching walkthrough's (I don't have all of them yet):
-The resistance (expansions hidden agenda and hostile intent are good). This is like werewolf except much better
-Princes of Florence. This is those resource collection games like Catan but better, less luck, and less ability to gang up on somebody
-Shadowhunters (this is like bang, coup, but both combined and much better)
-Dead of winter (this is like pandemic but it has the possibility of a possible traitor, everyone has team goals and individual goals. So it's waaay better than pandemic)
-Deception: murder in hong kong (clue with a social interactionist aspect)
-Trajan (this is a strategy board game that is like a game within a game within a game)
They should really do more live episodes.
Are you all planning on doing an updated version of this list?
Zee sounds like George Carlin when he's making his case against Agricola =).
Having played a lot of boardgames as well (though not 3000) my pick for most over-rated game is:
MUNCHKIN.
I remember an early example of this that weekend:
'Hey you can't kill that monster, and no one else can... but I can. The problem is... I need to use 3 cards just to beat it. So, I'll need all of the treasure.''
'Really?'
'Yeah'
'Oh... okay. I guess it's worth gaining a level and only fair if you have to lose all of your cards'
'Exactly'
'Let's get that monster!'
'Okay I use this card to win'
'Hey that's only one card'
'Yeah.'
'But you said 3 cards'
'I guess you learned something, now pay up'
And many other things, like threatening bad stuff for treasure.
I think only Sam listed hyped games.
Like, "That's it?"
Sorry, folks. Respect if you love Pandemic, it's a quality game, I'm sure, but I simply do not see how this game topped people's 'Best of" lists two years ago. MANY games are much better than this.
Now I will go buy Agricola, Eclipse, Macao, Settlers of Catan, Zombie games, Genoa. Note, If Zee hates it, it's a good game.
Cosmic Encounter... a negotiation game. Um... In 4 decades of playing, I think I've seen 3 negotiations, period.
Most overrated game for me is:
Pandemic.
Straddllw Yeah, that would be in my top 5 overrated games.
Straddllw your crazy. It might not be for you doesn't mean underrated
Straddllw All co-op games are ultimately just calculating probabilities if played optimally.
You can calculate every game since you know what's going to come up next based on what cards you shuffle back into on the top.
+Straddllw Generally speaking if your playing games with an accountant hat on you will find a lot of games boring.
This is by far you're absolutely best top 10 video, and most entertaining. I can't stop watching it.

ALL of these videos should be live. This was FANTASTIC!! :)
DOMINION! I love that game!
50:00, what in the world is christoph waltz doing with the big three?
Ten times I've watched this list (still love it) and finally I get the glue-comment about Lost Cities! :-D
Whats the glue comment referring to?
People just don't bother to open the damn rulebook and use stupid ass houserules
best dice tower video ever!!!
Probably the best Top Ten list you guys have done.
I think the live format really suits you guys.
Going to keep being a great gateway game for years to come.
testify sister! testify!
He didn't say it was a bad game. Overrated games can be great, but still overrated.
I've played a lot of Dominion, and have to disagree with you. I can no longer stand it. It's a brilliant game mechanically, but players who want any kind of theme or narrative to be integrated with the game, rather than just tacked on, are going to be sorely disappointed.
It's a brilliant game mechanically = it's a brilliant game.
Puerto Rico is far from being overrated. It is a great game that will still be (with full right) easily on the top 20 even a decade from now.
5 years later, and it is now ranked 22nd...

Cards Against Humanity is a light and fun party game and it wildly succeeds at that.
I really enjoy playing Catan. What games are you referring to as being better than Catan?
Settlers of Catan is overated.
This. Must be the best Top Ten you guys have done. :D
Yep If I judged a few games I've never played, I'd come up with a few really bad ones.
quineloe I didn't find there was a whole lot of interaction.
Ah, you were there! I do appreciate that people take the time to notice we shower. And I hadn't realized we were edgy. Cool!
Monopoly
Monopoly is properly rated. It sucks and everyone knows it.
I expected a better explanation about why Sam thinks Dominion is overrated
overrated does not mean the game is bad lmao
Just watched this and loved it. The humor of Zee and Sam is awesome in front of a live audience. I love seeing how funny you guys can get when not JUST in front of a camera. It's great. You guys should cut a clip at 30:52 to about 33:49 for Agricola. I own the game and enjoy a play of it from time to time and loved Sam and Zee's comments about why it's overrated. Especially Zee's. I was crying from laughing so hard.
Zee: "I'm into shee...."
I WANT SHEEP, MAYBE A COW! lol :D
