Bulging bruse on the outside. You could drop a golf ball through the entry wound. Internally, it destroyed everything in a 3" circle. Never found what was left of the projectile, which was likely a ragged jacket and a thin sliver of lead. The doe went down quick, but for hunting, I want an exit wound. I used Hornady 110GR SP loads for 300blckout and it works exactly like the V-Max results you get here, I actually shot a deer in the chest with it and it did not pass through but the fragments peppered the opposite side ribs with about 20 fragments and liquefied the organs into a Gel. pretty messy but was effective. However is does not pass through bone so I stopped using this round for hunting.
Which SP are you referring to, Hornady Varmint's? I would assume that soft point bullets are much more likely to pass through bone than plastic tipped bullets, seeing as the latter are much more explosively expanding, except for perhaps lead-free plastic tipped bullets.
Pretty sure this 110 V-Max is one of the best loads for 300 blackout… for the price I don’t see what you’d be able to get differently for a home defense self-defense scenario which is what 300 blackout was made for not hunting deer lol 😂
File this under "Huh". It's been a while since I've shot my .300blk - I have a few hundred rounds of this stuff squirreled away. Time to do some testing of my own. Thanks!
PikeyScott Its a great round just some of it gets loaded with light charges and waters it down. I drive the piss outta these things with my handloads and they are devastating!!
@@mrgrump2534 what do you mean huh? Do you understand english? Off the shelf ammo is loaded weak, watered down a lot…. I hand load and drive them much harder and get better accuracy and velocity…… not hard to understand?
Hornady has this loading moving 2375 fps. I'd like to see what that looks like in ballistic jell at 100 yards. I might use it for deer if it retains the velocity out at range. I'm gonna test it on some groundhogs and see what kind of damage I get out of it.
2375 would be out of a 16" barrel. The velocity of this gel test near the muzzle should be almost what velocity out of a 16" would be at 100 yards so you probably are already looking at the gel test of a 100 yard 16" barrel test.
I just chronoed it and plugged it into a ballistics calculator. You can expect the results of this gel test (impact velocity of 1934) to be comparable to what you would get at 165 yards using a 16" barrel. My 7 shot average velocity was 2400 fps.
@@ians1464 from your results, what do you think about it for use on medium game like deer? Useable, or was the fragmentation too explosive to where it's better kept for varmints?

With Lil gun powder you can get to 2400+ fps with a 16" at max load. That would be an Interesting test to fire a max velocity load and then a slower round in one test to show the penetration different.
you can, Fiocchi loads them and you can find them for about 65 cents/round. I took a doe with the 125 SST this year. It worked but I wasn't super impressed. 60 yard shot, I put the bullet right behind the shoulder blade, clean pass thru. Deer ran 30 yards and stopped for a look so I took a follow up shot to the neck and dropped her. I've always hunted with a .308 so maybe it's my perspective thats the problem, I'm used to anything I shoot under 300 yards dropping where it stands. I hate tracking deer.
Henry Schmitz totally sucks. I also refuse to shoot a dear with anything less than 308. 300 Blackout is good for bipedal creatures not foor legged ones of your requirements include dropping game immediately..
At that close range my 1911 w/jhp will tear shit up. I use that and a 300 blk for home and personal defense. I use the 110 v max in my rifle and have no reason to believe it won't take care of business.
Tell that to the 23 fallow deer I've dropped with this load. All chest shots. Only issue is moving targets. A lot of lead is required. Hello from Australia!
In the factory loading, I get 2250 fps in a 10.5” barrel. I don’t have access to ballistics gel, but it “vaporized” a 10 pound watermelon and 1gal water bottle. I didn’t recover any bullet fragments larger than a bb. 2250 may be too fast for this projo.
Great video. I would love to get your thoughts on using the ammo inc, 110 grain vmax which I think pretty much is Hornady, Hornady 110 grain VMAX For home defense. My gun is the DDM4 PDW ar15 300 blackout. 7 1/2 inch barrel 1:7 twist. I’ve been looking at subsonic 200+ grain, and Hornady sub x subsonic for expanding home defense use, but I also would like to buy in bulk a bullet that I can use at the range for hunting and for home defense if need be. My opinion is the 110grain Vmax is probably one of the best all-around all purpose bullets. Thoughts? For my specific gun? Plus subsonic 200+ grain ammo is ridiculous price right now at least two dollars per bullet, where I can pick up 110 grain VMAX for a dollar a bullet from ammo Inc..
Freedom munitions $.80 per round… they have fixed the gunpowder problem they are not slow anymore I have seen this tested myself I have 500 rounds of it right now and they all perform perfectly… a buddy of mine tested the velocity on around 5-6 of my vmax rounds I recently got from freedom munitions and they were all 2250 and above so there’s no reason to hate on freedom plus I’ve used their 147 grain FMJ for practice/range time all the time at $.62 per round that’s cheap I don’t care what you say they go bang literally every time and i’ve never been able to get any blackout ammo that cheap anywhere else!
Hi. Nice video. I just bought a box of Nosler 110 grain Varmaggedon ammo. Their length is very short compared to my 125 grain Sig Sauer ammo. Will this cause feeding problems in my gen 3 pmags? Thank you, Fred.
Has anyone found any testing done on the 110gr Vmax at higher velocities? I'm working with the Ammo Inc 110gr Vmax load because its available locally and doesn't break my bank ($1.00 per round or slightly less). It's shooting acceptably well (less than 2MOA) and runs around 2500 fps out of my 16" carbine and 2300 out of my 10.5" PSA upper. I'm thinking of trying it for a hunting round (200 yds max for the carbine, and 100 for the pistol). I'd love to see this bullet tested at 2100 fps, and in the 2350-2400 range as that would be representative of shots that are under 50 yds for me. On properties where I'd be willing to leave my 24" Grendel at home and take one of the blackouts, most shot opportunities are in the sub 50yd range. Then again, one option is to take the Grendel, but get a folding stock and throw the pistol in a backpack :)
Never mind. Miculek ran the Hornady load out of a 16" He didn't run them over a chrono, but the info is close enough for what I need to know. th-cam.com/video/GnBXaApxWV4/w-d-xo.html

Hi, please excuse my ignorance, but I was wondering the difference between the previous video you posted on the 110gr Vmax and this current one. The previous one didn't expand reliably, were as this one did great. Is it just a product of the lower velocity on the other video? Thanks for all the testing you do. th-cam.com/video/p3Bi6Yn7aMU/w-d-xo.html
Michael McCalister Exactly. Just the lower velocity. Freedom Munitions was loading those very light. I want to say like 1,700 fps off the top of my head.
I was also wondering this. I handloads these same bullets along with 125gr SSTs and 110gr Sierra HPs. I get 2350fps for 125gr and 2400fps on 110gr reliably out of a 16" barrel.
@@chopinbloc they have since fixed the problem tho… so everyone knows I have personally seen this with my own two eyes 2200 was the average on 5 shots out of a 10.5 wich surprise me since it wasn’t a 16 inch barrel !!
I know this is old but….the reason I’m a Hornady fan boy is because of their consistence. Hornady will never have the best round….but it will ALWAYS perform the way that it’s designed. I have been putting my life on it for 15 years, and it will never change. For the money….can not beat it.
Great test. Comparing this result to the result of the old Chopping Block test of Freedom Munition's 110 grain V-Max load, what would you estimate the ideal defensive velocity envelop is? The Freedom Munitions load was too slow to expand and was a crummy performer and you state much faster than this might risk shallow, varmint-esque performance.
I’ve got the 110 Vmax from freedom munitions and they open up just fine, not sure if you had a defective rifle or what not or maybe you’re talking about years ago and they fixed the problem by now Maybe because I’ve got about 500 rounds of the stuff and they all are pretty new looking and I did a five shot test and they were all over 2200 ft./s wich is plenty fast enough lol I did hear that years ago when they first came out they had a problem with the gunpowder they were using or something like that but they have sense fixed this issue so don’t be scared to order from them again they have great prices even on 300 blackout pack of ammo I think like 63 cents a round for new 147 gr fmj s wich is dirt cheap compared to anything I’ve seen online
What about comparing it to the Nosler 110 varmageddon? Ive used the varmageddon on prairie dogs from 50-175 yds with fairly bad results, you could literally hear the round hit the dog but everyone of them would just run off. When i examined the holes there was very little blood. Ive seen 22lr perform better. So i would say that it should perform differently then the Horandy from my experience. Anyways keep up the good work. Also the 125 sst would be good to see, my wife shot a doe at 85 yds with my blk out this year went through both front leg bones and a piece of the heart i was pretty impressed with it.
Because of the "Economy of Scale, I use 125 grain TNT"s for most things, 300 Blackout. Seems a Varmint Bullet would be ideal for SD application. Humans are pretty soft targets, even the 300 pounder. My load dropped a 130 lb hog, and that hide is tougher than any mans. I get better velocity from my 10.5, and with a slightly heavier bullet, the results should be consistently fatal.
@@mrgrump2534 I'm a reloader, so I get the 125 grain TNT's in cases of 500 from Midway or any other online source. I have loaded 110 V-Max that are screaming close to the magic 2400 fps from my 16 inch 300. No doubt devastating from my 10.5 at CQB ranges.
How did this test end up so different from your Chopping Block test of the Freedom Munitions with the same 110gr V-MAX? Or is this a different bullet with the same weight?
Fired from a 308win at 3200 fps these bullets will be hitting 2150 (black out mv) at 300 yds. which is typical varmint range. They would be just fine for two legged varmints at close (justifiable self defense) ranges. No real advantage over 125 to 150 supersonic expanding bullets. You can only be so dead.
I disagree … I would rather use these in a self-defense scenario where there may be innocent bystanders… let’s be honest if I’m grabbing my rifle ! well penetration or expansion is the least of my concerns and i’ll probably just be using fmj at that point because of the barrier blindness of an FMJ round incase they are behind cover

I killed my biggest buck in November with this same bullet in the 300 blackout. It weighed about 215 pounds and his score was 147” if that tells you anything. Would’ve went completely through him if it were completely broadside. Didn’t wait because he was moving fast.
I just buy the Hornady Vmax 110 grain out of my 10.5” suppressed rifle the cavitation is devastating. I prefer the subsonics as they are quieter for home defense however this is absolutely fantastic if your protecting your family and property.
I'm curious about your load data... powder used, charge weight, and C.O.A.L ... THX
Any chance of possibly testing out the new Hornady 300blk 190 grain subsonic expanding sub-x flex tip ammo?
chipotlelover82
Yes the subx please. I’m very excited to see how it performs.
Great test and break down - I know these take time and nicely done.

@@Marcus2750-u1t huh ? English
@@mrgrump2534 what do you mean huh? Do you understand english? Off the shelf ammo is loaded weak, watered down a lot…. I hand load and drive them much harder and get better accuracy and velocity…… not hard to understand?
Just picked up about 2000 of these, glad I did!
@@cristianespinal9917 Shot them at milk jugs 200 yds muzzle velocity 16 inch bolt gun 2500 fps fragmented quite a bit.
@@ians1464 from your results, what do you think about it for use on medium game like deer? Useable, or was the fragmentation too explosive to where it's better kept for varmints?
@@cristianespinal9917 but you just seen that it is good just download it a little bit or use a shorter barrel lol
y take someone’s word you don’t even know over a video you just watched? Ill take a video over someone’s here say any day
I have found this round to actually be very accurate in a full length 300 blk as well. My new hog setup...
Time to pony up for some more gel
With Lil gun powder you can get to 2400+ fps with a 16" at max load. That would be an Interesting test to fire a max velocity load and then a slower round in one test to show the penetration different.
Ehh not really it would not be much diff
I wish you would also do a rifle distance test. Just in case someone wanted to use a rifle for rifle distances.
if you could get the fiocci 125gr sst's in 300blk that ould be badass.
you can, Fiocchi loads them and you can find them for about 65 cents/round.
@@sttvoyager1727 what is a bipedal creature like a human?
Every animal ive shot with this bullet has dropped in its tracks. Shot from factory hornady ammo i see higher velocities from a 9 inch barrel.
What have you shot with this round?
Muy buena prueba. Has confirmado lo que ya pensaba. Muchas gracias
Wouldn't a car jacker or porch pirate be considered a varmint?
At that close range my 1911 w/jhp will tear shit up. I use that and a 300 blk for home and personal defense. I use the 110 v max in my rifle and have no reason to believe it won't take care of business.
Invasive species atleast at this point...
Man in my opinion, a .30 anything moving at that speed is going to be a bad day
Tell that to the 23 fallow deer I've dropped with this load. All chest shots.
Only issue is moving targets. A lot of lead is required.
Hello from Australia!
Andrew, between the V-max and Barnes tac-tx, which do you think is better for defense?
In the factory loading, I get 2250 fps in a 10.5” barrel. I don’t have access to ballistics gel, but it “vaporized” a 10 pound watermelon and 1gal water bottle. I didn’t recover any bullet fragments larger than a bb. 2250 may be too fast for this projo.
Any plans to test hornady black 110gr vmax load? If nothing else, it'd be nice to have a velocity reading out of an 8" setup.
out of the 16.5 ruger american those pills expand real fast leave really insane exits... on hares and foxes absolute destruction
I have yet to see a 300 Blackout video with a 16 inch barrel or longer.
Bc thats whack!
Nice work, thanks!
What about 300 Blackout 110 gr GMX Full Boar? Would that be overkill for home defense out of an 8 inch barrel?
Hi. Nice video. I just bought a box of Nosler 110 grain Varmaggedon ammo. Their length is very short compared to my 125 grain Sig Sauer ammo. Will this cause feeding problems in my gen 3 pmags? Thank you, Fred.
1:11, but is it a good duck hunting round?
Should the Freedom Munitions 110gr Vmax perform similarly (now that they are running hotter loads) rated at 2200fps out of a 16" barrel?
What about Speer 130 Varmint and 125 TNT HP? Good for self defense in 300BO?
Thanks
Id love to see this done with the Speer 130gr HPs (2005)... they are fairly inexpensive and marketed as a .308 varmint bullet
They kill
The 125gr hornady sst does better for defense

I do not understand the love affair with Star Wars clothes. Space Balls is a better movie, by far.
it makes up for the total and utter lack of physical conditioning.
interested to see 125gr .308 GMX from the 30-06 at 100-150yards into gel and chronographed.
ANDREW! LETs GEL TEST COMPARE EITHER THE HORNADY AMERICAN EAGLE or FRONTIER 125gr's NEXT. -- AGAINST THE 110gr V-MAX... VERRRRRY CURIOUS TO SEE THE DIFFERENCES!!! IN FACT: LETs DO -BOTH! WHY ONLY ONE. : ))
.
Do a test of 110 grain vital-shok in .30-06
Have you tested the Sierra 110 hp and 125 game changer?
Fantastic video thanks
@@mrgrump2534 that's good to hear.
Try using lil gun 21 grains should be pushing 2400 fps
Interesting.I was wondering how these would do at self defense with 5.56. I had hoped it might be very effective, but I guess not.
Yes same here. I would like to know if the Fiocchi vmax 556 are good for home defense
Thank you! I've been wanting to see how this round would perform in gel.
150 grain SST @ 1900 is what my Blackout likes. I wonder how they expand...?
I load this same bullet for my 300blk but I use 20 gr. of H110 and I have a 16" barrel
18.3 in converted LC brass. 10.5 barrel average velocity 2125 5 shots 15fps spread. Very accurate.
Try the Nossler 110 gr Varmeggedon
They oughta work for two-legged varmints!
I’m curious about how various factory loads of this compare to your hand load
I know this is old but….the reason I’m a Hornady fan boy is because of their consistence. Hornady will never have the best round….but it will ALWAYS perform the way that it’s designed. I have been putting my life on it for 15 years, and it will never change. For the money….can not beat it.
How come you set the gel block so close?
If I remember the frag/expansion velocity for these is 1750ish or so. I'd say 1900-2200 is probably a good range
I’ve got the 110 Vmax from freedom munitions and they open up just fine, not sure if you had a defective rifle or what not or maybe you’re talking about years ago and they fixed the problem by now Maybe because I’ve got about 500 rounds of the stuff and they all are pretty new looking and I did a five shot test and they were all over 2200 ft./s wich is plenty fast enough lol
I did hear that years ago when they first came out they had a problem with the gunpowder they were using or something like that but they have sense fixed this issue so don’t be scared to order from them again they have great prices even on 300 blackout pack of ammo I think like 63 cents a round for new 147 gr fmj s wich is dirt cheap compared to anything I’ve seen online
Also the 125 sst would be good to see, my wife shot a doe at 85 yds with my blk out this year went through both front leg bones and a piece of the heart i was pretty impressed with it.
spielmitmir59923 What velocity was that Varmageddon at? I plan to test it soon.
The Chopping Block It was factory Nosler varmageddon it says 2150 on the box I didn’t get a chance to chrono them to verify though.
spielmitmir59923 I wonder if it just has a longer neck and didn't really begin expanding until it exits. I guess we'll find out.
The nosler is bonded and from my experience has much better weight retention but performs almost identical otherwise
Your wife hunts with you? Eww she must be hella joe butch lmao 🤣 of-course u will deny it.
bless ure heart child lol
Good choice 👌
Did you crimp these?
Absolutely devastating
i used 110gr vmax on hares and god damn did they expand... they blew 3 fist size holes through em even at lower velocities
The Arfcom store doesn't show any listings for uppers. Is that an error with the website or is nothing for sale at the moment?
LoneWanderer360 I'm not sure. I know they are working on reorganizing the store.
Good logic … where would you recommend getting these 125 grainers? I use freedom munitions and palmetto sometimes
Hey now shoot it in full power in a 308 in gel show us what it does.
It would vaporize the block ha ha
Itd be like a grinder.
How did this test end up so different from your Chopping Block test of the Freedom Munitions with the same 110gr V-MAX? Or is this a different bullet with the same weight?
250-300 fps more than the Freedom Munitions load. Same bullet.
Freedom munitions has since fixed this problem, there 110 grain Vmax now runs 2250 fps out of a 10.5 barrel
would like to see this test repeated with 4 layers of denim
People are varmints too
125gr sst's work far better... at 2050fps too..
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This performance vs that lame ass Freedom Munitions crap.
I'd be concerned with inconsistent performance. This one was good, but it might be the best you can expect.
No that’s with any test my dude why are you trying to shit on his results I’ve seen this test done multiple times and it’s always the same results
Maybe even reduce M.V. a hair to try to get 14" penetration?
