This is fantastic load, especially for home defense. I just hope these *stay* affordable. Seems like the cost of any 300 Blk ammo that *isn’t* made by AAC these days has been somewhat spiking lately
Tested it on 150-200lb whitetails last year. Messiest field dressings I've ever had. I made it my self-defense and truck gun load after seeing the results. Exit wounds were 1/3 size of entrance wounds. Those 6 petals tear up the torso. 3 seconds was the longest any deer lived, even with a "bad" shot. It dumps all its energy into the torso of a large mammal, creating 7 deadly, messy wound channels.
That is phenomenal news to hear. Helps validate buying 300 rounds of these suckers. Hmm, if it drops down to $0.60 a round again might have to get another 300 round bundle...
@@BuffRANGE, do you know if Hornady's black series 300 blackout with this same vmax bullet has the same or better velocity as this AAC ammo when fired from a 10" barrel?
Thank you very much for covering this round. After doing a month or five of research, I went ahead and got a whole combat load of the stuff. Glad to see my belief in the round reinforced by your testing.
Oughta see what they do in my dd5v3 and fn spr…3300fps-3500fps..I’ve got 2 or 3 alpha boxes handloaded 1 at a time gettin down to the kernel of powder settin beside me and d50 in the rifle. My #1 rd..bout to order another 100 today
@charlesmullins3238 at velocitys that high it's going to fragment instantly and lose it's mass very early. This is a varmint round that happens to perform similar to a hollow point at the lower 300 blackout speeds.
@@jake4194 if you are talking about pistol hallow points (which I doubt), there’s a big difference in the wound expansion and initial “punch” between this round and pistol hallow points.
Just wanted to comment that this is the first time i have seen a cannalure on 110gr vmax or zmax for that matter. I always roll my own, so it is interesting to see that these factory loaded v max have this.
@@MeMadeIt I don't think Hornandy loads those projectiles anymore which is why they're not on the website. But I think they still produce them for special order for AAC.
My first comment disappeared. Not sure why. YT has been doing that on TPH podcast to me as well. I just worked up a load of 110vmax last week. Using 11fs and 19.5gr. It had an es of 6.45 and an sd of 13.34. It was just over 1 moa with 15 shots. The precision brass prep is probably overkill for bedside hd but if i cut corners i won't be able to sleep at night, lol. This is the first video of yours I've seen. I like the way you set them up, nice format. Ill be subscribing. I also have a 300 Ham'r, i like it better than the 300blk now. If you haven't messed with it yet and you like 300blk, then i definitely suggest checking it out.
Yeah my ar15s in 300blk are 6 inch 7 inch and 8.5 but my bolt action an single shot are 16 inch and the velocity increase with supersonic stuff is significant
It’s crazy to me that this specific round is so hard to find gel tests for considering 1) They use Sierra MK JHP bullets that have a much larger opening at the tip vs typical 300 Blk OTM bullets, 2) They’re relatively affordable, and 3) They’re rather light at 115gr. Given those traits, I’d assume they have good expansion and terminal performance, but I have yet to see in a video
@@archipelago93 I think AAC recently put out video of gel testing of some of their more requested rounds and this one was shown in that video. pretty great performance IMO but they didnt discuss anything in the video
I’ve shot unsealed 80yr old ammo. Having no sealant probably isn’t going to affect ammo storage life for most common uses. If anything stored in ammo can and it’ll probably last quite a long time.
I'm concerned about the 10" barrel. camo and plaid did a similar barrel length velocity comparison with this same ammo. he read much higher velocity that you did: 2256 vs 2165. delta of 91. that will change point of impact. your highest and lowest velocities had a delta of 84. that will also change point of impact. maybe 3 of your shots were not as they should be: 130, 191, 214. without those you still have a delta of 29, which is alright, but not great. no disrespect intended. I have the same PSA 10" upper, and am interested in using the same inexpensive and high velocity 300 blk cartridge. I'd like to get to the bottom of what is going on here. do you think it could be your set up? maybe I need to spend more money and a good barrel and good ammo to get more reliable velocities and points of impact. your thoughts?
What was his temperature? Standard deviation for a plinking load isn't bad. Maybe it is this barrel. If I get a chance maybe I'll see if I can find a replacement.
@@BuffRANGE, the price point and standard deviation would be fine for plinking. but maybe I'll use Hornady's cartridge to zero my optic and for hunting. the camo and plaid's test was done at temp 40F. I'd be curious to know ~how many rounds have been put through that 10" barrel. thanks for the quick reply!
@@BuffRANGE It probably is simply something that hasn't come up in his recommended yet. I'm subbed and have been searching 300 blackout stuff so it popped up at the top for me. Sweet I get more muzzle velocity from there 110 saber blade black tip from my 12.5 300blk
The Saber blacktip sold on me getting a 16in upper and just going the supersonic route.
I believe the sabre blade black is Hornandy SST projectiles.
