    After seeing the RIDICULOUS penetration from that crazy fast twist, I really want to see this put through a battery of tests for barrier penetration. I'm talking sheet metal, windshields, solid wood door, plywood, exterior walls, even concrete block. Hell, toss in level 3a and level 3 body armor to the mix too. That would really drive home and give a great understanding of the real world penetration capabilities of this fascinating newer round.

    • @chrisviviano3271
      @chrisviviano3271 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +65

      I absolutely agree with this, I would love to see that test. I mean in all honesty, when in an urban scenario, you will be penetrating wood, concrete, cinderblock filled and empty, car doors, windows, windshields, armored glass, plate carriers, and drywall. I think this is a brilliant urban sniper, especially if it has massive penetration power! I’m sure once you break certain substances the round will be slowed and slightly pancaked making it a more damaging round after barrier break.

    I really want one of these! The 300 BKO had the same overpenetration issues when it came out, as most bullets are designed to penetrate and expand properly at fast supersonic velocities. A few years ago we were shooting 6.5 Creedmoor at muzzle velocities of around 3000 fps. At 100-200 yards they were penetrating and expanding to about 16-18 inches in ballistic gelatin. At 1000+ yards, they were not expanding and penetrating more than 36 inches.
    With the 300 BKO, it performed much better at closer ranges once bullets were developed that were designed to penetrate and expand at subsonic velocities. So this round will be better once those bullets become available to perform at subsonic.

      It’s a mix of how fast the round is moving and the projectile itself not opening up. The projectile was moving just too slow to open up, and essentially is just a slug at that point

    • @tortol4847
      @tortol4847 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It's really not that much energy. The heavier bullets are around 300 grains traveling 1000fps which has around 650 ft/lbs of energy which is about the same as 357 mag/10mm auto from a revolver/pistol. Supers have 1800-1900 ft/lbs which is nothing to laugh at but that's your typical 30-30 winchester load. Like 300 blackout, this is meant to be as quiet as possible. The only way to get more power out of subsonic rounds is to add bullet weight which this accomplishes compared to 300 blk.

    It also sounds like there is a lower pitch, and that translates into humans being less able to perceive the sound due to aspects of their neurology. Several quiet drone propeller designs are using this to limit their noise signature too.

    As a civilian my only reference for the VA is veteran friends I have and it blew my mind the stories they would tell me. A good friend of mine I met at gunsmith school was 26, fresh out of the Marines where he was an artillerymen and he was deaf as a hammer. Like extreme hearing loss for that age and when I asked if the VA would give him hearing aids he said they wouldn’t provide them till he had at least 80% hearing loss. Apparently he only had 78% or some shit, anyways that’s one of many stories I heard from all those guys and it just sounded like the VA was always a damn nightmare.
    All I know is we need to get that shit fixed before anyone puts any thought into free government run health care!

    I built an 8.6 in a AR10 platform when they first came out. I have been experimenting with different projectiles and I have found the hornady 285 grain ftx's shoot really well. For what it is I think it's an awesome rifle can't wait to go deer hunting with it this fall. I haven't shot a concrete wall with it but I have 3/8 steel and it almost went through with subs, it would have smoked it with supers.
