    Definitely a Phoibos! And definitely the most distinctive dial design from them so far. Well specced, well priced, you just have to be OK with the level of bling before you pull the trigger on this one. Cheers, Jody

    Like it... But I'd trade the 300m WR for 200m if it meant shaving 1 or 2mm off the case depth.

    The dial and bezel are something I’d buy in a heartbeat. Yet the bulky profile is a look that just turns me off. It makes it look much thicker than it actually is.

    I was catching up on JOMW episodes and realized I was wearing the watch he was talking about! I hadn’t waited for Jodi’s review, I snatched this Phoibos up the day it was released. His review is extremely accurate. I like the watch for its unique and eye catching design. It’s thick and heavy and I like it that way. Not for everyone, but I love it!

    I am in love with this watch. It grew on me very fast. The dial, the indexes, the date at the six, the discrete “James Bondish” white Octopus logo and the GMT frozen bezel combo make it the prettiest watch I have ever seen. To me it looks classic and modern at the same time. Discrete and in your face at the same time. I find it mesmerising… I just ordered a second one. You know the feeling when you love something so much that you need to have a backup just in case… When I wear it, with its size and weight, I somehow feel very masculine. I might just have found my watch.

    Jody, I received the brown one in the mail about three days ago and I think that helps to mute the bling down a bit over the sliver/grey. I love it. It’s a real eye catcher and you can’t beat the price and quality. Love the Star Trek intro. Live long and prosper! ✌️

    Thanks for the review, Jody. I have the brown one, just came in today. I love it--everything about it feels really solid and it sits well on my 6" wrist. The bracelet was a little harder to adjust, but not bad once I figured it out. Very sleek and shiny. My clasp also has that second click, but it secures well. All I can say is I wish I'd bought this earlier--had I known how nice they were, I would have bought the green one, too! LLAP.

    Oh I love that ❤️ it looks like someone has actually sat down with the intention of designing a really attractive dive watch that bears no resemblance to the Submariner, thank god. That dial has a hint of Cocktail Time about it and I would buy that without any hesitation. Shame it hasn't got a Miyota 9015 movement, that would improve the profile and make it less bulky and would be the icing on the delicious cake, but thumbs up to Phoibos for that one nevertheless 👍

    I have had a Phoibos Proteus with meteorite dial for a couple of weeks. It may be the heaviest watch I own.
    It feels very sturdy and has sharp edges. Mine has screw pins in the band. This is the first band that I have owned with them and I really wish more companies would offer this. I paid a premium for the dial but I like unique and different watches. I cant stop looking at it. It's cool to think that this material has been traveling around the universe for billions of years. I am really happy with my purchase.

    I own the green one since monday. It's really a stunning watch, even more at this price. It looks a lot more expensive than it is, like 5 times. The bezel is perfect and the bracelet is the most comfortable I've ever tried. Note that I have no problem with the clasp, no double-click. On mine, the hour hand is a little off, a little bit too late, but the watch runs at +2 spd and the bezel is perfectly aligned, so I'm happy with it and I'll keep it.
    I've removed 4 links and the weight is down to 160g. I've feared the watch would be to thick for my taste but actually it's ok, and because the bracelet is very comfortable, I don't feel the weight.

    I received my green Voyager yesterday, and your comments are very fair. I have a 21-22 cm wrist and ithe bracelet is *tight* (emailed Phoibos to ask about extra links). In comparison, my Wave Master fits fine with a spare adjustment available if I ever need it. I have the same issue with the clasp failing to lock, and assumed it was due to everything being pulled tight. It is certainly something to be aware of.
    Notwithstanding the length, this is the best looking and well made bracelet I have seen from Phoibos. The high, polished sides contribute to this on-wrist. It's a snazzy, dressy diver.
    The styling of this grey dial version reminds me of the new Seiko SRPE71. I nearly purchased grey but decided there would not be enough contrast in sunlight, and maybe that was vindicated.

  • @pherble
    @pherble 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Such a lovely dial, and a nice bracelet as well. I struggle with so much polished SS finish. That and the bezel almost makes it look like a cheap plastic chromed finish. So close but not quite enough to make it a must buy this time. Thank you for your reviews.

    I usually like Phoibos, but this one is too heavy and thick for me. I like the hands set on this one. The price looked like 269 or 250 USD which is not to bad. No complaints on that. I like the bezel. If it were a few grams lighter and a few millimeters thinner I think it would be better.

    I bought an Eagle Ray recently, thanks to your reviews of their watches. I was so happy with it that I got a Sea Nymph for Mrs Wife which is also a great watch. Delivery was free and took three days to Europe from their UK depot.
    This new Voyager is lovely looking, If the bezel were colour matched I would probably get the green one, although it does look a bit chunky. I know the NH35 is not everyone’s favourite but my Eagle Ray is running at +/- 2 seconds, which is better than my CHR Ward cosc chrono at 3 times the price.
    Thanks for not calling the octopus a kraken😂 Cheers Jodie, great review as always!🖖

    Jody, that pin and collar system is really something to show to your audience in detail. Getting the links off is not the problem, the problem is to get it on again. First you have to watch that tiny tiny collar. Work on a spotless surface without cluttering, otherwise the collar disappears never to be seen again. Then the part that most of us do wrong. Where to put the collar? You tend to try to place is near the outside of the links, but the trick is, that most of the times, the collar has to be put back near the middle of the link. That took me a while to find out. Nowhere an instruction video how to do it. That's why many people don't want pin and collar bracelets. Even some watchmakers don't know this and you end up with a watch on the floor after visiting the watch maker. So please show us how to do it, in detail. Use your best Macro lens please.

    • @zumalot
      @zumalot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1 Great observation and just to add my little experience of maybe finding the biggest hole. With a loupe I could just make out a larger hole. I also worked in the middle of my king size bed with yellow sheets so I could see the collar when it dropped as I pulled the link(s) out. If you don't see the collar it may be still attached to that punch tool. A big bright area also helped me when the collar jumped like a flea when the tweezers lost their grip. Unfortunately these things can jump a long way and if they make it the floor, good luck.

    • @renebense
      @renebense 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I lost my collar aa well. Searched everywhere and gave up. The next day I was working on another watch, this time on a clean and cleared surface and suddenly the collar came back....! It fell out of my hair...!

    • @renebense
      @renebense 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the video, he doesn't show where the collar should be placed. You think it is on the outside, but that doesn't fit. It is on the inside of the links. Nobody ever shows that.

  • @limirl
    @limirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I picked up the eagle ray quite recently and it had awful QC issues. The clasp fell apart when I tried to size it, they had to send me a new one and then tried to charge me for shipping it. I told them I was going to return it under the 30 day refund if they did that so they relented. The crown is now having issues it is very rough and sticks when trying to close it. It takes some finesse to get it closed and I anticipate it will eventually give up on me and I will have to send it back.

    Hi Jody! Thanks for another great review. Have exactly the same model and version. At first I was not fully sold to the bezel design and the "blinkiness", however once I started wearing it - I fell in love! Those shiny hands and indices wonderfully play with light in different conditions and make the watch highly legible, even though the grey version provides less contrast between the dial and hands compared to some others. Also the accuracy of my piece is simply striking, when worn it runs at... +/- 0,0 SPD (!!!), the same as my Proteus. When put in the watch box face up it runs a few secs fast per day (just like your piece on the timegrapher). Phoibos must be regulating those movements before installation, which speaks great of the brand. This is the 4th Phoibos in my collection and probably not the last. Keep up the good work, cheers from Warsaw!

    I've got it in brown, 15% off the first week from Europe due to being on mailing list. Took a chance ordering it with no review references, but the Scotsman normally speaks highly of the brand. I am very happy about it even though there was a wtf? Shortening the bracelet.. 😊 A pin and collar first for me.. 🤪

    Nice intro! Very interesting dial. I think I might be tempted by the blue dial version. Like the idea of a silver bezel but not convinced by the finish on this one - somehow looks a bit ‘plasticky’ on video. Maybe better in person. Very enjoyable review as always!

    I think Zelos uses a similar dial on one of their Nova watches.
    Not digging this one much at all, but it does seem to be priced fairly and it appears that I can read the date without a cyclops, which is nice.

    Best lookin' Phoibos so far! I like it! Kind of reminds me of a Yachtmaster. But the hour markers (at least at the 12 o'clock position) look a little off center when lined up to the middle of the Phoibos logo.

    I love it. The silver is sold out. Any suggestions on another color?

    A tad thick, but I love that they made an automatic version inspired by the Sea Nymph. I will definitely get a Phoibos at some point!

    That is probably the nicest watch you have shown.

    All around this watch looks prety awesome. I like the kind of frosted bezel with protruding numerals. I also really enjoy the style of the applied indices, and the lume looks pretty awesome. I'm impressed phoibos! The case design being so chunky and slab sided is not my favourite. Fortunately for Phoibos, they actually have decent branding, the octopus being so prevalent because people like it.

    Love the watch, any advice, i would like to mod the bezel for a black ceramic one, dimension look standard 30.6-38.0 but I don’t know if I can find something that suit the watch well

    Great one! Looks really good.
    Might pass on this one though, will continue to save for the Mako V3, but this is damn tempting.
    Slightly too thick I think? A better movement with a high beat might have tipped it over the edge.

    Hi Jody,
    The dial is phenomenal! As well as the bezel. But it’s way too chunky! I would like to see a version with around 12mm of hight. That would be perfect for me. And as you said, they should have spent some machining time into the flanks.
    Best regards,
    Claus

    This is definetely my favorite Phoibos. I see the similarities with the Sea Nymph that I wanted to buy for my wife. Unfortunately it is not available on the Phoibos Europe web site. Hope they will restock, so maybe I will buy a Nymph for her and this one for me.
