When I went to my neurologist, two years ago, she mentioned everything you did in this video of what not to eat and avoid. It almost totally eliminated my neuropathy, but she did take labs and it showed I have and anklosing spondylitis and rheumatoid factors. When I stopped everything that you have mentioned in this video, my factors have been normal and no extreme symptoms of the A.S. Sugar was my main culprit and salt as well as everything you mentioned. I am now leading a normal life and have lost over 100 pounds because of following what I eat and no processed foods ever. I hope people listen to you because it does make a difference. Yes, some days I do have Rheumatoid symptoms that are very painful flareups maybe every three months but it’s not every day every day. I am not on medication’s, but I am on many vitamins. I enjoy watching all of your videos thank you.
Thank you! I eat tomatoes with red onions with lemon juice with a dash of salt and pepper a lot. This explains why I noticed my arthritis elevates afterwards. 😮
I always test negative for RA, but I have years of Osteoarthritis behind me, as well as at least one bone-on-bone joint. Not quite a month ago I started an anti-inflammatory diet and have been thrilled at how much it has helped. I feel like I'm going in the right direction at last. I guess my biggest issue will be staying with it, especially during those times I'm tired and, frankly, tired of the food. Soon I will try gradually adding back a single food at a time to see if some of these I actually tolerate okay. Thank you, Dr. Girnita!
Yeah, saw a couple of charted versions that actually contradicted themselves on fiber and a few other odd items. Decided I'm just going to get a dietician consult in. I cook the majority of my food from scratch anyway, so the consult will be worth a world of good. One upside though is, I'm not very sensitive to solanine at all, as in I can even tolerate potatoes that have gone green on occasion. Probably because effects tend to be cumulative and I moderate how much of anything I consume by daily dietary rotation. Sugars though, used to love sugar, now I barely tolerate it, as larger amounts literally nauseate me just on taste. Still put a teaspoon of white sugar in my coffee, but I'd likely go with glucose at the same amount. White sugar being a literal double whammy, as one gets one glucose and one fructose bonded together, so two for the price of one. And with the steroid, within the hour after eating, say some cookies, I'm playing the 1812 Overture out of my southernmost region... So, between that and blood glucose spikes, I've minimized my sugars. Oddly though, other carbs don't ferment that much in me. I also feel a lot better with only moderate to low amounts of sugar. For me, a boost of complex carbs at breakfast and at dinner, no issues and my weight remains stable, so I'm getting the right fuel to air mixture there. ;) I briefly was lactose intolerant, as an infant and immediately after my gallbladder was removed and lasting for nine months, then that passed. Good, given how much lactose containing products there are out there, happily hidden to make some miserable. Not very tolerant to milk fat though, so I stick with 1% or skim, the 1% lasting longer. Ethanol, yeah, well I'm known to tilt my share and most of the readers here, but restrict that to a few days out of a month at most, at times, just not bothering. Inflammatory? Naw, it's inflammable and inflammatory. I do tolerate gluten incredibly well, I also don't eat much bread and when I do, it's usually home baked bread. As a hint, a loaf of sliced bread can sit for a month here and five pounds of flour can last half a year or more. That's good, as I really do love barley and well, I eat far more barley than wheat, rye as well. Thank heavens for small favors. I'm also fortunate enough to be able to enjoy fava beans, which given my ethnic background, is mildly surprising. I also quite enjoy all of the gluten free suggestions as well. Remember that I said that I rotate my dietary intake daily? :D Cooking oils, I use canola in small amounts, butter with an oil, olive oil in larger quantities, bacon grease and even lard at times, all in moderation and of all, olive oil gets the most usage. Red meat, not that much these days. Lamb, goat are my go-to, don't really like beef and if my serving is the size of my palm, it's a lot. Pork a bit more, chicken and fish are my larger portions these days and well tolerated. Greens are the bulk of my plate, still charting what's bothersome, as some do seem to promote inflammation, but charting things like that takes time. Pro tip for those who can tolerate gluten and want to make bread, add some olive oil to the bread in place of water, it'll last longer, be moister and whole wheat stops tasting like sawdust and feel free to experiment gently with spices in the bread. Chucklefest time, my primary care physician actually ordered me to consume "more highly processeed foods", due to a significant sodium and chloride deficiency on top of my magnesium deficiency. Likely due to not being absorbed due to my Crohn's. As I was on magnesium supplements and those are effective, I excavated my salt cellar and am gently to moderately salting my foods for the first time in over 30 years. Sweet drinks, ugh, no thanks. If I get a sugary drink, I'll need an adequate amount of ethanol to properly decontaminate it - for one drink, the rest of the ethanol will be diluted with water. I'm still a bit irritated with myself after making some tamarind juice from paste and oversweetened the juice. Some cheese cloth strain it after using a plain strainer, I kept the fiber residue as a matter of personal taste. But then, I enjoy high pulp orange juice as well, when I can find it. Oh, one trigger I've noticed is rather irritating to me, green beans, which formerly were a staple, fortunately, asparagus and brussel sprouts are well tolerated for me and also staples, as are pretty much most leafy greens. Was planning out dinner, marinading some chicken back and thigh from a leg quarter and was going to have stuffing as a carb side, but realized that my marinade is high in salt, so oh crapmuffins. Then, I remembered that I've a yam that's starting to sprout a little, so it's the guest of honor now. And I'll be trying some lima beans to see how I tolerate those. Last night's dinner being swai fillet, leftover brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes with a touch of creamed corn that was leftover as a gravy-ish on the mashed potatoes. All well tolerated. Oh, despite salt and magnesium being critically low, my B-12 and folate levels were dead center of "normal", go figure. That after four months of continuous liquid diarrhea before doctor actually listened (OK, doctor was a bit preoccupied with things that literally could've killed me in seconds), triage and all. Doesn't stop me from ribbing her though on that and one event of ham fisted dosing of blood pressure medication that resulted in a modest misadventure in severe transient hypotension. Residents are there to learn, don't mean we can't share a chuckle over minor misadventures, I had my share of them when I was training in military EMS under austere conditions. Make mistakes, just always try to make new mistakes, not repeat old ones. The former shows that one is learning. The latter is just being an idiot and that's my job, thank you. :P
This fits with the Paleo Diet very well, and fits with the rules I follow. I was in remission for many years, lost it when I hit menopause, but am getting close to remission again. I will say I do eat red meat a couple times a week, focusing on organic and grass fed. I also eliminate beans, including peanuts (which are in the bean family). I’ve temporarily removed eggs and nuts as well, but hope to reintroduce them once I get my inflammation markers normal again. They’re getting close!
I found this out after eating a few French fries and being nearly paralyzed in my body the next day. It hurt so bad. 24 hours later I slowly regained use of my body back.
