Maverick's launch out of the tunnel really caught me by surprise the first time, I didn't expect it to speed up that fast after coming to an almost complete stop. And the quick turn to the left out of the tunnel had me holding on for dear life.
I feel like Maverick gets overlooked and is underrated bc of all the other great rides at Cedar Point. One of my all time favorite rides! So fun. First time not expecting that 2nd launch is awesome!
I think The Rock ‘N Roll Rollercoaster is an extremely underrated launch. I know the stats aren’t that impressive (0-57 in 3 seconds), but the theming is incredible. Shooting out of the station with flashing lights in the dark makes it feel so much more intense and elevates the experience significantly
Genuinely surprised not to see the Hulk coaster on this list. The launch itself is amazing! It's got that great theming, the lights all around, and that soundtrack coming through. It's awesome.

Agreed. It's not nearly as fast as these, but the fact that it appears to be a regular go up the hill...and then it launches you UP HILL! The surprise is excellent.
This ride holds special meaning to me. My son was making his 1st trip to an amusement park where he met the minimum height requirements for all the rides!!! But it poured down rain. All the big, outdoor rides were closed. He was very disappointed until nightfall and the rain stopped!!! We saw the test runs start and we beelined it to Hulk. We walked right on, got strapped in we were off. Neither one of us knew it was a launch coaster and when it did blast uphill, both of us were completely caught off guard 😮in the best possible way!!!!! Went on to ride it 5 more times that night. Most fun I think I ever had!!! I
my favourite launch coaster is Stealth at Thorpe park. the lights above you on the front row that tick up and then the suspense till they go green, you hear the iconic "GO GO GO GO" and you launch up to 80mph in 1.9 seconds. really gets your heart pounding!

I have had the privilege of having done Ring Racer in Germany four times in it's 4 days of operation in 2013. It's launch was absolutely incredible, and on pair with Dodonpa. Depending on whose stats you were looking at (the park stated different stats than RCDB), it was even faster then Dodonpa. I even, in hindsight, have had the last public ride ever on Ring Racer. I was lucky enough to be on the last ride of the day, on it's (what turned out to be) last operating day. I've done ever coaster on this list, with the exception of Red Force (not build yet at time of visit) and Vulcano. (Closed on my visit in 2016) I agree with most parts. I put Formula Rossa as my absolute number 1. It's very similar as the launch on TTD, but where TTD flats out, Formula Rossa has an powerful extra punch near the end of the launch, to give it that extra 50km/h / 30mph speed. I've done Formula Rossa before TTD, so when I rode TTD I actually was a bit underwhelmed by the launch. It didn't have that insane extra punch Formula Rossa has. (TDD is still a great launchcoaster)
definitely the hulk. its pretty intense how it shoots you straight into a 110ft tall zero-g roll reaching speeds of 40 mph but then you reach speeds of 67 mph right before that massive cobra roll over the lagoon. gotta love the hulk.
Knott’s is the closest thrill park to me and I’ve always loved Xcelerator, but when I learned later how highly enthusiasts regard it and how it was the first of its kind, I love it even more now. I’m glad it made the list!
Oh man! The Beast, at KI... when it does that unbanked turn into that looooooong, straight brake shed, and at the end of it, the magnetic brakes trim your speed in half or less... so good. Gives me chills. XD lol
Dragster is my favorite launch as well! Definitely best experienced in the front row. My other favorites are Xcelerator, Storm Runner, Maverick (Second launch), Montezoomas Revenge, and the final Sky Rocket 2 launch.

I'm just feel sooooo blessed to have been able to ride Top Thrill Dragster on two perfect days 3 yrs ago. Something to behold on a beautiful Sandusky day.
Thank you so much for including Volcano. I was on the first public launch of that coaster. It came out of the station, around the corner and stopped. After a few minutes the employees came out, pushed the train back into the station. A few people got off and switched out. Then they tried it again and it was insane. That being said, it isn't my favorite launch. My favorite is, and always has been, Flight of Fear also at King's Dominion. It is nowhere near as good as it was in the day. They used to only let you in to ride when the station was clear, The train returns to the station empty so you couldn't see what happened to the people in front of you, and you couldn't ask them about it. Then the lights would start dimming with some cool space ship sounds before launching you.
The launch on Dragster is unbelievable. Very smooth, extremely fast, and highly intense. It always takes me breath away. The launch catches me off guard every time even though I know what to expect.
I haven't done too many launch coasters, only 7, (being Stealth, RC Racer, Rock n Roller Coaster, Hyperspace Mountain, Rita, Furious Baco, and Red Force) and personally, I really like Steath's, Red Force's, and Rock n Roller coaster's. Red Force's launch has very little kick to it, but the speed at the end of it is just pronominal, Stealth's launch is insane, but my favourite is actually Rock n Roller Coaster in Paris. Despite not being the most forceful, it has a great atmosphere an theatrics around!
Flight of Fear, Cheetah Hunt, Lightning Rod, and Hulk will always have a special place in my heart. That was my first launch experience when I was a kid.
I've been in Red Force and also in Furius Baco. I have to say Furius Baco is the winner by so far. I've never felt a feeling like that in all my life. It was freaking insane
I have been on a few launch coaster myself like Flight of Fear at Kings Island, and Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great America, but my favorite is by far Maxx Force. That launch is incredibly intense and I rode it in the back row, at night, on the first day of Fright Fest for the 2019 season
I think the vertical launch on Wicked at Lagoon is really cool and worth a shout -- It's such a unique sensation, even if it doesn't reach quite the same speeds as other launches.
Stealth at Thorpe Park is the joint 4th fastest accelerating coaster in the world (0-82mph in 1.8 seconds). Crazy launch, definitely should have made this list imo
@@idontknowimlostforwords4715 that shouldn't really make a difference with the launch though tbh. If anything the OTSRs take away your sense of control more during a launch.

Lap bars are better. I'm a fan of Ka but the lap bars of dragster just make me love it. I suspect the same goes for Stealth vs Xcelerator. Lap bars just make you feel more open, especially with the Intamin t-bars, it is so unrestrictive.
I took a friend of mine to Universal Islands of Adventure a few years back. It was his first trip to the park and we got in so early that Hulk wasn't running when we got in the queue, so he had NO idea that launch was coming... I've never heard a grown man scream so loud.

I’m so glad I made it to the end! I was getting worried TTD wouldn’t make the list. TTD is my all time favorite, with Taron coming in a close second. I was shocked to see Taron ranked so low! 😳
lol. i think i like this launch over the dragster. especially when the ride op is like "launching in 3..2.(lol oops i hit it early xD)..1..." it makes a great sound and i love the feeling of the first run backwards when they speed you up. its not as forcefull as the dragster but its good enough
Dragster's launch puts that ride as my number 2 at Cedar Point, even though I know objectively other rides like Maverick or Millennium Force have a stronger case - I just love the launch that much, especially in the front row, probably one of my favorite sensations!
Rock'n'Roller Coaster. Doesn't accelerate really fast, but the theme is so good to me. You're at that red light, and it turns green and the music blasts you at the same time as the speed... ah man... I love that.
I think MaxxForce is one of the better launch coasters overall. Idk about MaxxForce for its launch alone though. I still have to ride it even though it is at my home park. Lol
Great video Taylor! My favorite launch coaster is also Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. I have to agree with you on that one! Also, the front seat on TTD is the best! I remember the force of that launch, it would pin me to my seat and rip tears from my eyes! TTD is a great ride, and that 420 ft tower is awesome too!
Favourite launch I’ve had the opportunity to try is Stealth at Thorpe Park. The top speed isn’t as high as some of the other accelerators out there, but the acceleration is one of the best.
Top thrill dragster was my first coaster to experience something with a launch sequence and since then, they have become one of my favorite types of coasters
I just went to Hersheypark last weekend. Storm Runner was so damn awesome, and the Snake Dive is officially my favorite inversion of ALL time. If I had to rank my favorite inversions 1: Snake Dive 2: Pretzel Loop 3: Volcano Rollout 4: Norwegian Loop 5: Batwing Launch coaster on my bucket list: Xcelerator Maverick Top Thrill Dragster Velocicoaster Pantheon Taron Do-Dodonpa West Coast Racers Maxx Force Red Force Blue Fire Copperhead Strike Furius Baco
I thought the red force launch was one of the most underwhelming coaster experiences ive ever had, but I suppose I just expected too much from it. I definitely agree with the furius baco placement though, its proper intense. I cant imagine any launch being beter than do dodonpas though, but sadly I have never been to japan to ride it.
My favorite launches are one that incorporate theming. For example Storm Runner when it say Now Get ready here go!! Just get me pumped up everytime. Keep up the great videos 👍
Well I just have to correct you :)) Kingda ka has faster acceleration then Top Thrill Kingda ka: 0,0 km/h - 206,0 km/h in 3,5s Top Thrill Dragster: 0,0 km/h - 193,1 km/h in 4,0s
Cedar Point is my home park so I have been able to ride Top Thrill Dragster many times! I would say that the front row makes the launch so much better!
I’ve only been on one launched coaster and it was incredicoaster at Disneyland but I loved the cinematic countdown and the water effects ( very fun to watch off-ride) and then rising into this big tunnel
@@joshl9328 I don't think it's noticeable and I'll throw Stormrunner in there too. The biggest issue with Stealth is that all it has is a relatively small tophat and you're done.
Probably not the world's best launch, But I love Rockn' Rollercoasters launch. There is lots of anticipation build and you hear the countdown. And then you're just gone. People don't talk about this, but if you're not expecting it gets to you and, it's awesome. Definitely one of my favorite coaster experiences
One of my favorite (if not MOST favorite) launches is actually The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure in Orlando because of the aestheticism and theatricality of it. Uses Bruce Banner's spasmodic transformation into the Hulk as the jump-off point about a quarter of the way up the lift hill before it sends you flying. Not the fastest launch by a long shot but still pretty stellar.
Hey Taylor! I had the opportunity to ride ring racer and it was insane! I‘m from Europe so I didn’t experience any other air compressed Lauch yet (thank you Corona...) But here is my experience: Ring Racer started with a rather short start sequence to the launch track. When the train arrived it took a quite long time until the train was ready for takeoff. There were no speakers, just lights like on the finish line of a race track. They were not exactly synced which was kinda weird but it gave an extra second of excitement before the launch. I can’t tell you how the launch felt - because it was to fast :P It felt like a hit against your body, like your brain is still at the start position while your body is hundreds of meters ahead. It was crazy! I guess it hit 170km/h (instead of the first planned 217) in 1,8 seconds? (don’t Quote me on that). I didn’t feel any butterflies in my stomach or any other things except from a massive force and the fear raising up my hands while that launch happens. I had serious concerns about hurting myself, lol. But there was one massive bummer in the whole story: There were breakes until the train entered the first and only element. Yeah right. Your train slowed down before even leaving the launch track. That took a massive chunk out of the experience as a whole and I hated it. Anyways, it’s a shame that this coaster operated for only four (half)days at the end of the season. And there are no plans to open that coaster again. I‘m really into that story because the coaster is the nearest to my town. So if you like to hear more about the coasters history or the history of the whole „RingWerk“ let me know! I’d love to hear from you :) Chris
I haven't been on many launches so I only have a few experiences, but my favorite has to be the incredible hulk at islands of adventure. Freaking awesome launch! And it's in a tunnel as well. The theming around the launch is also what makes it so great.
Dragsters launch is absolutely incredible. As an experienced rider, it still takes my breath away everytime! The forces remind me of I305’s first turn, but on your back instead of your butt.
@Natasha McHattan ME? GP? Are you joking? Do you even know what that means? Do you realise that stealth has the third fastest acceleration on a rollercoaster in the world? What makes a launch intense is the acceleration, not the speed. So, that means that objectively, stealth has a more intense launch than anything in North America. Don't try and beat me in a knowledge war because youll find you seem far more GP than me. Honestly!
@@visionist7 aye I ain't gonna attack a name 😂, look at mine lol 😂. But they need to be more careful with who they call a gp. They sound like the typical American enthusiast who thinks bigger is better but clearly has never ridden Nemesis 😂

I know what type of launch it is and why it does that sound, you could also hear the boom from the parking lot not just close up. The boom just makes scared not the ride. I rode it once and I can say V2 is better.

Wanted Wario I’ve done it at night a few times and I haven’t gotten any bugs surprisingly and they were halloweekends but still
9:30 pm in July is nasty lol
Wanted Wario I’m totally doing front row at night if I get the chance
Wanted Wario NEVER ride valravn, steel vengeance or millenium force in the front row at night. By far worse than dragster because they sit so close to the water🤢
@@kopech279 Well when i went in the middle of summer, they had dedicated towel people at the unload that handed out paper towels to wipe the bugs off with
I’m so glad I made it to the end! I was getting worried TTD wouldn’t make the list. TTD is my all time favorite, with Taron coming in a close second. I was shocked to see Taron ranked so low! 😳
I had a great launch on Wicked Twister but we got so many rollbacks that they had to evacuate us off after a few laps
lol. i think i like this launch over the dragster. especially when the ride op is like "launching in 3..2.(lol oops i hit it early xD)..1..." it makes a great sound and i love the feeling of the first run backwards when they speed you up. its not as forcefull as the dragster but its good enough
I feel a whooooosh coming
I’ve had that issue too. There’s only been two occasions I didn’t get one.
It's the only coaster along with vertical velocity and possessed that will roll back every time
@@cardio8133 bruh it's a joke....
Was so happy to see Xcelerator! That launch is surprisingly intense. Seriously takes your breath away
This made me realize that I barely been on coasters with launches
Dragster's launch puts that ride as my number 2 at Cedar Point, even though I know objectively other rides like Maverick or Millennium Force have a stronger case - I just love the launch that much, especially in the front row, probably one of my favorite sensations!
5:33 the "stoplight" (featured at drag strips) is called a Christmas tree. Not knocking the video, just letting people know.
Thrill Seekers And Hell Raisers k
True
I like that they got the lights on the top hat too. Nice touch for guests in the park
Rock'n'Roller Coaster. Doesn't accelerate really fast, but the theme is so good to me. You're at that red light, and it turns green and the music blasts you at the same time as the speed... ah man... I love that.
Would love to see a video explaining difference between American, European and Japanese theme parks
Great idea, i’ll add it to the list!
Imagine being in 2022. When 3 of the Top 4 on this list are no longer operating. And I won’t be surprised if it becomes 4 out of 4
Blue Fire in the Thumbnail😁 👌
Taylor I love your videos and I try to watch them every day keep up the great work
Just wait for F.L.Y at Phantasialand to become the first launched flying coaster and possibly best launch in Europe. Also RIP Volcanoes Launch
I visited phantasialand
I speak german
Its not - Tarons launch is much better
@@MigraineManX duh
It would be nice to see an updated version of this, because I’m interested to see if Velocicoaster would make it on this list
MaxxForce has left the chat.
I think MaxxForce is one of the better launch coasters overall. Idk about MaxxForce for its launch alone though. I still have to ride it even though it is at my home park. Lol
MaxxForce is probably the craziest launch right behind DoDondonpa
@@wutduh8697 0-70 something into a head chopper and a airtime hop, shoulda been on the list imo
My first ride on dragster was front row. Loved it.
I'm having french toast for launch
Great video Taylor! My favorite launch coaster is also Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. I have to agree with you on that one! Also, the front seat on TTD is the best! I remember the force of that launch, it would pin me to my seat and rip tears from my eyes! TTD is a great ride, and that 420 ft tower is awesome too!
Favourite launch I’ve had the opportunity to try is Stealth at Thorpe Park. The top speed isn’t as high as some of the other accelerators out there, but the acceleration is one of the best.
Number 3 on the planet
I agree
Yesssss. Front row of dragster is probably the most intense and fun thing I've ever expierienced
Taron has the best launches I've ever experienced!
Sameee
Simon van Prooijen my top 3 launches even though I’ve only ridden one is maverick taron and copperhead strike and I’ve ridden copper head strike
Top thrill dragster was my first coaster to experience something with a launch sequence and since then, they have become one of my favorite types of coasters
You should try making a top ten favorite elements!
I just went to Hersheypark last weekend. Storm Runner was so damn awesome, and the Snake Dive is officially my favorite inversion of ALL time. If I had to rank my favorite inversions
1: Snake Dive
2: Pretzel Loop
3: Volcano Rollout
4: Norwegian Loop
5: Batwing
Launch coaster on my bucket list:
Xcelerator
Maverick
Top Thrill Dragster
Velocicoaster
Pantheon
Taron
Do-Dodonpa
West Coast Racers
Maxx Force
Red Force
Blue Fire
Copperhead Strike
Furius Baco
I thought the red force launch was one of the most underwhelming coaster experiences ive ever had, but I suppose I just expected too much from it. I definitely agree with the furius baco placement though, its proper intense. I cant imagine any launch being beter than do dodonpas though, but sadly I have never been to japan to ride it.
My favorite launches are one that incorporate theming. For example Storm Runner when it say Now Get ready here go!! Just get me pumped up everytime. Keep up the great videos 👍
Well I just have to correct you :)) Kingda ka has faster acceleration then Top Thrill
Kingda ka: 0,0 km/h - 206,0 km/h in 3,5s
Top Thrill Dragster: 0,0 km/h - 193,1 km/h in 4,0s
Doesnt matter if top thrill is still the better ride. Kingda ka was just the rushed rip off
I liked KKs launch better. Felt more intense to me and the numbers back it up. But whatever, to each their own :)
Dragster's launch is still smoother and more *original*
That thumbnail is incredible! Great job!!
Where would Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast rank at?
JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis Expert I think it would be way better forward
thats not a roller coaster so it doesnt count. a roller coaster is a full circuit.
@@Nub00005 Then what is it?
@@maxtanner2840 a shuttle coaster or a boomerang
Colton Barbier it’s still a roller coaster lol
Cedar Point is my home park so I have been able to ride Top Thrill Dragster many times! I would say that the front row makes the launch so much better!
Opinion on stealth’s launch?
DummyThiccJosh it’s basically the same as accelerators
Ben Woodward yeah I thought that as well
@@dummythiccjosh4243 It's got a quicker acceleration.
I’ve only been on one launched coaster and it was incredicoaster at Disneyland but I loved the cinematic countdown and the water effects ( very fun to watch off-ride) and then rising into this big tunnel
What about Stealth at Thorpe Park? I'd assume similar to Xcelerator
It's basically the same save for the shorter layout as far as I know. Bit weird that it's not on the list.
@@bingus5031 If Stealth had lap bars it would be even better than Xcelerator, but for now Xcelerator remains better.
Top Thrill Dragster! That launch is definitely out of this world.
Stealth at Thorpe park basically has the same launch as accelerator
Stealth hits 80mph a little faster than xcellerator's
@@joshl9328 I don't think it's noticeable and I'll throw Stormrunner in there too. The biggest issue with Stealth is that all it has is a relatively small tophat and you're done.
Probably not the world's best launch, But I love Rockn' Rollercoasters launch. There is lots of anticipation build and you hear the countdown. And then you're just gone. People don't talk about this, but if you're not expecting it gets to you and, it's awesome. Definitely one of my favorite coaster experiences
Flight of fear; you feel like you’re going way faster because of the indoor tunnel and it’s so dark and crazy
It made my stomach drop somehow
One of my favorite (if not MOST favorite) launches is actually The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure in Orlando because of the aestheticism and theatricality of it. Uses Bruce Banner's spasmodic transformation into the Hulk as the jump-off point about a quarter of the way up the lift hill before it sends you flying. Not the fastest launch by a long shot but still pretty stellar.
4: I’m going to sue you if you don’t stop this ride right now-
Thank you for mentioning Volcano Blast Coaster, my all time favorite coaster and the indescribably awesome launches. yup.
Hey Taylor!
I had the opportunity to ride ring racer and it was insane!
I‘m from Europe so I didn’t experience any other air compressed Lauch yet (thank you Corona...)
But here is my experience:
Ring Racer started with a rather short start sequence to the launch track. When the train arrived it took a quite long time until the train was ready for takeoff.
There were no speakers, just lights like on the finish line of a race track. They were not exactly synced which was kinda weird but it gave an extra second of excitement before the launch.
I can’t tell you how the launch felt - because it was to fast :P
It felt like a hit against your body, like your brain is still at the start position while your body is hundreds of meters ahead.
I’d love to hear from you :)
Chris
Thanks for sharing Chris! Super interesting!
I haven't been on many launches so I only have a few experiences, but my favorite has to be the incredible hulk at islands of adventure. Freaking awesome launch! And it's in a tunnel as well. The theming around the launch is also what makes it so great.
Honorable Mention - Powder Keg at Silver Dollar City.
Brian Wolters yes. Just yes
@@justiceleaguebattleformetr9239 The launch is good and then to go directly up and over that hill the air time is incredible
Brian Wolters fun fact: I’ve only done Powder Keg at night because when I went in the day, it was down
Dragsters launch is absolutely incredible. As an experienced rider, it still takes my breath away everytime! The forces remind me of I305’s first turn, but on your back instead of your butt.
I stopped at King’s Dominion for a little while when going back to Ohio, didn’t get a chance to ride I305
Do-Dadonpa is number one imo but I agree TTD is better
Backward launches are amazing!
Bruuuuuh, my boi stealth didn't even make the list 😂😂😂, rippppp
@Natasha McHattan ME? GP? Are you joking? Do you even know what that means? Do you realise that stealth has the third fastest acceleration on a rollercoaster in the world? What makes a launch intense is the acceleration, not the speed. So, that means that objectively, stealth has a more intense launch than anything in North America. Don't try and beat me in a knowledge war because youll find you seem far more GP than me. Honestly!
@@tomwhite4596 lol her name sounds like a sleazy New York law firm.
GP, indeed
@@visionist7 aye I ain't gonna attack a name 😂, look at mine lol 😂. But they need to be more careful with who they call a gp. They sound like the typical American enthusiast who thinks bigger is better but clearly has never ridden Nemesis 😂
Good list, all of these are/look like great launches. I do believe Thunderbird at Holiday World should be an honorable mention. Such a cool experience with the fog
anyone else hit the -5 sec button and then the +5 sec button real fast at the beginning of these videos
Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, AND Maxx Force?
Dude, you got good taste.
I’d take stealths launch over xcelerator
I’m happy to say that I’ve been on 2 of theses (Taron and Fluch von Novgorod) normally when I watch those kinds of videos I don’t know any of the mentioned coasters
Are you from germany?
Maxx Force has my favorite launch, but when it launches you can hear a loud boom. Thats what makes me scared of riding Maxx Force.
that boom you hear is the air decompressing after it launches yeah it is loud when you're close to it and all but that doesn't stop me for riding it over and over again and roe it 5 times in 2019 and I had a blast and a good time on it and loved every second of it so don't be afraid of riding maxxforce it's fun fast and a thrilling and remember it just the air compressor decompressing after every launch.
I know what type of launch it is and why it does that sound, you could also hear the boom from the parking lot not just close up. The boom just makes scared not the ride. I rode it once and I can say V2 is better.
@@lildirtyrat6418 that's understandable I never really liked v2 for some odd reason and I almost rode but then I back out of it but with maxxforce I'm fine with but V2 not a fan of it really and haven't ridden it ever I just pass this ride up every time I get to it.
Thank you for putting Volcano on this list, as this was my favorite coaster for so long. Tron at MK has a great first launch, and Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot has a cool launch as well, since its backwards.
The best launch is me launching away from Goliath at six flags New England.
Animated Abe you won’t have to it’s probably closed
Mine is launching away from Goliath at Six Flags Great America.
HarryPorpise isn’t that one of the best rides in the park? Your opinion though.
I’m too scared to ride it :(
But I want to
I'm so happy to see Storm Runner on this list!!! Definitely a fave!
What about pony express thats obviously better than all of these combined
Top Thrill is my favorite as well, but Powder Keg was probably the most surprising. I was not expecting it to be so forceful!
No! You can’t just include Red Force, Kingda Ka, and Top Thrill Dragster in one list!
Taylor: haha, rollercoaster go fast fast
Im happy that u listed Taron, bcs it is the only coaster on your list that I have ridden ( so many times).
WHERE THE FRICK IS PONY EXPRESS
Good list Taylor. My favorite launch is Maxx force’s
